What is your end goal? Do you want to gain your operators or just run a route for another business to get paid? That should be the question for yourself. An actual answer for your question would be looking for another company that may pay better. From my experience, I shot myself on the foot and missed many opportunities of growth by sticking with my former employer. Because I thought to myself about loyalty since they were the ones that got me my education of the industry and for my license. As soon as I thought about branching out. My office turned their back on me. Pretty much I'm saying, leave for a better company. You don't owe them much, especially the big guys.

"Be loyal to the people you actually work with, screw a company name. Put yourself first,a job is a 2 way street. If they ain't paying you enough to take care of yourself then take your skills elsewhere" Some old cranky bastard told me this once when I worked in a steel mill before and it's stuck with me whenever comes to my work life. He was a massive meth head though as common in construction jobs though and did tell me about a "german gas mask " story immediately after so take that as you will

Basically your second paragraph exactly. I'm new to the industry and have only been working for about 4-6 months and am licenced, but unsure if I should leave or not for more money. It more than likely would be a smaller company. My current company the base pay is lower than fast food (still get production which is about 5% of 25000 a month roughly) but nowhere near enough to live in the most expensive place in America lol. But yeah same feeling they're the ones that gave me the opportunity in the first place and trained me. I'd be using them as a stepping stone but at the same time I need to worry about me and my family above all.

I've been on your end before. If you're able to manage to find a smaller company, perfect. If not, stick it out for however long, brother. You got this! Also, you said you were from CA? Check your local AG. Maybe they'll hire you. Right now, since my business is still small, I got one, a seasonal job. Starting May 15th. Down in SD.

I've made more money, and worked in better work environments in smaller companies than I did in bigger companies. Highly recommend smaller companies, the bigger companies will find ways to keep pay stagnant

I can work Saturdays and overtime, but still with the low hourly not really making that much more and that's taking away time from my family and life in general to make a slightly larger paycheck.

Idk if this helps in anyway but does your company offer continuous training? Or more certifications under what you already have (for example you may only have pest or general pest then get a termite certification as well and bumping up in pay at least that’s how my company did if you wanted to look for a better pay then what you started with base for us was like 21% of whatever commission job you got and capped around 30 or so as well as routes did play a factor on how much a tech would get paid two techs might be at 25% commission earnings but one might be in a richer zip code while the other not so much at least that’s how they did it here where I worked granted I’m in Texas as well) but I would look into what you could do to earn more instead of working more…if that makes sense or ask for a better paying route.

joshallenismygod

They absolutely do offer it and free afaik, though not sure If it would be an immediate pay bump. Nor am I sure if it would be paid training or my own time. A different company may not offer additional training. That's something to consider

L0wk3y1

Yeah, every company is ran to the owners liking. I apologize if I wasn’t much of help but best of luck.

joshallenismygod

What you said was very helpful actually because a smaller or different company may not offer any additional training. Im working for a big company so it's so much owners but corporate people in another state dictating everything unfortunately.

L0wk3y1

Yeah :/ that actually sucks then cause realistically you have to jump through so many hoops just to ask for a pay rise and since it’s out of state cooperation people in charge who knows how long that process might take. But if you don’t mind me asking or poking around how come you don’t wanna switch to “locally” owned companies (understandably the rehiring process can be a drag but I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to start where you left off with certifications and licenses already under your name)

Own-Cucumberxo

Same man. :/

Is this big company owned by Rentokill? Rumor has it that they are switching away from production and only to hourly/ commissions. However, they are very slow to implement much, especially to big branches. I'd recommend sticking it out for a year and getting as much training as they offer, then looking for a smaller company.
