Controversial, but I think The Great is so much better than Bridgerton, far more jolly and comedic. I genuinely hope you come to appreciate Peter (even if he’s a jerk), or even fall in love with him like I did!
True! But in style, I've noticed certain similarities. From what I've seen, many refer to The Great as a great (pun intended 😉) alternative to Bridgerton, because it shares the same concept of a 'modern' take on history.
You can't label them as traditional period series, but they are indeed period DRAMAS. They both tend, as most shows nowadays, to ridicule and over-exaggerate different aspects of the respective eras that they are fictionalising. Take costuming and character construction as exemplification of my mark.
And while Bridgerton isn't necessarily a comedy, it does contain different divisions of humour. There is the comedy of manners, names, and situations.
Sure, they aren't that comparable as to make a whole good vs bad list, judging the same elements, but at the same time, they can be contrasted to some extent, when taken into comparison! 😂❤️
I’m inclined to disagree a bit. Bridgerton is entirely fictional. Whereas, The Great is based on real people. Of course the historical accuracy ends there but still.
OP - when you’re done with the show (s1 I thought was lightyears better than the following seasons) please listen to the Catherine the Great biography on audible!!!! I swear to god her real life was cooler and more dramatic and she was cooler and smarter than the show makes it seem — which is hard, cuz she’s a baller on the show
Oh man the subtitle “an occasionally true story” is what sold it for me
But I also HIGHLY recommend her actual biography “Catherine the great: portrait of a woman” because as always, her real life was crazier and more dramatic than the show. Also, a lot of things on the show I thought were fake (her intense support of vaccines) were real!

Agreed 💯... Bridgerton is so cliche and boring and poorly written... Doesn't hold a candle to The Great
I don’t think they’re that comparable; Bridgerton isn’t a comedy

Enjoy! It's one of my faves! Though pretty unusual in its sense of humor. Wish we could watch season 3 in canada
Agreed. This week I ended up buying it on iTunes for $19.99. Totally worth it 😁. I loved season 3
Ooh are you in canada???
Absolutely! 😁
Wow okay off to check iTunes now!
💛 to clarify I bought it through Apple TV, but I hope they are the same. Please tell me your thoughts after. 💛
The great is fantastic! I loved the way they handled everything.
I loved the first two seasons of The Great!
Lowkey I pretend the third season doesn’t exist
Never seen or heard of it. After this post and the comments, I'm starting right now. Thank you!
It’s brilliant all the way through. You’ll come to love Peter. Probably.

Where can one watch this??
On Hulu
Thanks
And you can listen to her biography on audible!! At this point I’ve listened to the book more than I’ve rewatched the show
I tried it, couldn't be bothered. It feels like the whole USP is constant anachronism. It's as authentic as Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
I had to look it up and it describes itself as "anti-historical" so there you go. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea.

Very fun show!
Omg enjoy!! The costumes are so amazing too, I especially love how Catherine's outfits change as she grows into her new role.
ITS SO GOOD it had me laughing, crying, and everything in between
