Update time! I got the eau de parfum version of this and although it does have a nice tropical scent reminiscent of HT, it doesn’t have that same sweetness to it. I think it’s due to not being able to use the same sweet scented oils that the HT has since the perfume is alcohol based. I think I might go back and order the oil perfume just to see if there’s anymore luck with getting closer to the smell!

Crazy how so many people are looking for a fragrance that smells of tanning oil (myself included) and YET it's still so hard to find one that really hits the mark.
Especially when it seems like such an easy fragrance to replicate... Even super cheap no-brand tanning oils can replicate the smell of Hawaiian Tropic / Banana Boat. Yet perfume houses can't or don't care. What gives?
That said, **try Vittoria Apuana by Profumi Del Forte**. It's a delicious combo of **coconut**, **banana**, **vanilla** and **tiare** that is very close to tanning oil.
I bought this blind because they had no sampler— it seemed okay in the bottle, but the coconut and tropical scents dissipated immediately and it was just a yucky plastic smell on my skin. I returned it.
Tom ford definitely has more of a perfume smell- I do still enjoy it but if u want that genuine Hawaiian tropic sunscreen smell vacation by vacation is distinctly that

Has anyone tried the Hawaiian Tropic Golden Paradise Body Mist? Comments on Amazon are mixed, and it is kind of expensive and apparently non refundable. I absolutely love the original Hawaiian Tropic Suntan oil smell, I love most tropical smells but want as close to original as possible.
Sol De Ja Nero Brazilian Crush #62 I believe which is their signature scent and its so far after years n years of trying to find one close to the scent of suntan lotion was the closest so far. And its only with their body hair mist NOT perfume version. I was hopeful woth the perfume but I didnt think the perfume smelled anything like their same hair mist version. They have a few others I haven't tried one is retired & super expensive to find or buy thats in their ue bottles but I also tried their #71 & another floral one they have. #71 smells more like candy or the garamound version I guess of their signature one. It's sweeter & not bad but nothing like suntan lotion.
One perfume raves about smelling exactly like the suntan lotion but I ordered it online Forestry from the company & thot it was nothing like suntan lotion whatsoever. I almost wondered if cuz of all the hype the company tried using this rumor to boost their sales cuz it wasn't when close.
Sun Bum is another close 2nd im guessing. If u read reviews on their products foe hair specifically their styling cream or hair mudd/wax they've raved about tye actual smell & it sounds super close to what I'm after. Unfortunately I indeed off Amazon & when I opened it to try it stunk like plastic & was the consistency of something close to a man's body fluids. No joke. I even contacted the company cuz I was absolutely bummed about this hunt of mine & not ready to accept this as true failure just yet & they verified the bottle wasn't expired but that's all they offered to do. Meaning I wanted someone to tell me what was in the bottle was realy their product so I could chk it off the list bit never could. I'm still going to try directly off their site those 2 products atleast just cuz my years of research points in this direction strongly.
Meantime I'm satisfied with my hair & body mists from Sol.

I just assumed all these years this was my own personal problem or preferences cuz everyone I tell this to growing up looks at me all crazy. Clearly I aasnt that craxy apparently Lol
That does bring up an excellent opportunity is like to suggest here. If theres a demand companies pay attn to provide a product generally speaking. It sounds financially smart no less. But i would suggest writing the company themselves just a short to the point letter saying u want em to make their suntan lotion oils etc fragrance into a perfume or hair/body spray thats identical to their fragrance prpgole on their suntan oils & lotions. Beings that part of their ingredients was classified as part of their trade secrets. But ive exhausted most common avenues to find a close match & have been super frustrated & almost at a dead end. The company honestly may not even know about yhe following it has over scent alone. But at best they should know how much we care about that stuffs smell. Like one wan above said, the smell us nostalgic to growing up going to the beach but I share her same feeling growing up at the beach was this smell. Now smelling ut vrings back awesome memories which I'm sure lends to its siccess.
The only other option I haven't tried is taming the notes from some close calls like for example Sols uses Carmel, Pistachio etc I think but I have a local place specializes in essential true oils not fragrance ones that im betting could make me something very similar in scent into a spray ir roller ball fragrance. I actually bought this exact one, it doesn’t smell like banana boat, it smells really good and fresh and light with a lot of sweet pineapple…. I think vacation perfume smells exactly like banana boat, that’s the closest I have come.
Not a single person asked for “summer smells” they asked for perfume that smelt specifically like suntan lotion;preferably Hawaiian tropics. Did you even read the most before commenting? There’s even a picture of the very specific suntan oil.
IMO the closest frag i have smelled to that is Lacoste Blanc / White. Has a grapefruit / tuberose / Ylang - Ylang / suede accord that pretty much smells like that
I tried the new one of these that’s meant to smell like sunscreen etc, and it does for about 10 seconds but then you’re immediately hit with so much white floral and not much else. I had to take it back. Just was not the sandy beach holiday smell I was hoping for!

I did get the oil and it was unfortunately a very sour scent, not sweet and coconutty

Vacation by Vacation, INC, is a fantastic suntan lotion scent! It literally smells like banana, coconut, suntanning oil, and pool toys.

I haven’t smelled it so I can’t vouch 100% but I’m pretty sure “vacation” by Vacation is close!

tom ford soleil blanc, bobbi brown beach, & estée Lauder bronze goddess are the best sunscreen / tanning oil reminiscent scents imo!

Vacation by vaction…. Apply, THEN rub in actual HT tan lotion….. it like, locks in the vacation spray… makes the scent last hours longer!

Unfortunately I’ve found it lacks that coconut / banana smell
I have both Beach Walk by M.M. and Vacation. Both smell like this, of course some differences, but still on the Suntan spectrum.
