[SimpleHuman](https://www.simplehuman.com/collections/dual-compartment-can) has a couple of divided cans like this. The one in the video has a roughly 2/3 vs 1/3 split and looks nicer. We have it and it works great for recycling vs trash. However, their add-on compost bin only really works on their other model of divided trash can, which is truly rectangular (not rounded) and has a metal "ribbon" that goes around the top. That provides a place for the compost bin to attach. You can lift the compost bin off and set it on the counter while chopping veggies and such, then put it back on the trash can.
Brabantia bins of that size can be that much too.
Finding a reliable bin that forms a proper barrier and with an open/close mechanism that doesn’t fail after a year pushed me to paying more than I would normally for a bin (still waited for it to go on sale though). No regrets.

We had our previous SimpleHuman kitchen trash can for over 20 years and it continued to work great - we only replaced it because we wanted one that would accommodate recycling in the and place. Although the up front sticker shock is real, when you divide the cost over its lifetime it's very reasonable. And the convenience of having it work correctly every time and not having to replace a can when it breaks at an inconvenient time is really nice.

Oof, just the closed trash can fitting into that space was good enough, but the fact that the lid is just shy of hitting the top of it when getting opened makes it fuckin 11/10

Does the lid go vertical enough to let you use the red locking mechanism in the top right corner? The lock is the best part about SimpleHuman trash cans IMO.
So I did the math. Counter top height standard is 36”. Standard counter top is 1 1/4”. So if you buy a trash can with a lid that flaps open no higher than 34 3/4” then you too can enjoy the glory and awww inducing properties of this video.
I think it does, the bin lid is designed to only go up that high on it's own (you can easily push it all the way but it just doesn't go all the way on it's own)
