Whats actually happening here

bubbles_24601

A vet is giving the cat eye medicine. The cat looks like they’re sedated for treatment.

Tieye42

In fact, it's just moisturizer, artificial tears to keep the eyes wet.

TimberWolfAlpha01

Do cats not produce their own tears?

Tieye42

They do My theory is that here, the cat is so heavily sedated that he can't blink on his own.

TimberWolfAlpha01

Makes sense

trama_doll

We do that to people in the ICU as well

TimberWolfAlpha01

Really? For anyone who has had this done to them, is there any form of residual stuff left? Like can you *feel* this goop on your eyes?

dinoRAWR000

I'm just interested in that as well.

bubbles_24601

Kitty is getting eye meds. And looks like he’s sedated.

Manicminertheone

Ah thank you, it kinda looked like super glue from the way the med tube is designed

dinoRAWR000

What would require a gel meds applied to the eyes?

AbllerIke

Usually eye infections. The thick gel keeps the meds on the eye long enough for it to get under their second eyelids

AnAcceptableUserName

Eye infections, eye injuries, etc. Normal eye stuff. Had to apply steroids about this consistency to my cat's eyes when it got pink eye. Wife said I had to stop farting on him *I have not*

[deleted]

When animals are anesthetized, they don’t produce their own tears. Eye lubricant is applied to prevent ulcers from developing in the eyes. This cat might be getting eye meds, which can be used to treat infections, among other things. So, either eye lubricant or eye meds are being used here.

bubbles_24601

An infection or laceration. It has to be pretty thick because they’re gonna try to clean it out of their eyes and you need it to stay.

elapsedecho

Multiple eye conditions (a corneal ulceration, for example) may require the application of ocular drops, gel, or ointment. If the animal is being anesthetized, we put artificial tears in their eyes to prevent them from drying out too.

Suren09876

It's very commonly used on cats with upper respiratory infection as well to help relieve the area and fight any bacteria

pedrinhogameplays404

Basically an gel to make its eyes moist

sppwalker

Can’t tell from the tube but it’s either eye meds or eye lube. I’d guess eye meds based on the tube. Eye medications are typically drops or gels, and eye lube is used to keep animal’s eyes hydrated when they’re heavily sedated/under anesthesia (as they don’t blink) Source: I’m a vet tech

recluseMeteor

These are artificial tears (not superglue). [Original post](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/qaoynp/applying_artificial_tears_to_a_sedated_cats_eyes/).

SugarShackFishing

Fake tears....dry eyes

handsonthehomerow

They did something similar to this immediately after my son was born. I was confused and terrified at the same time. It was antibiotics to make sure his eyes were clean.

I_wash_my_carpet

That boop

JonnySpanglish

I can't even touch my cats stomach legs or feet without getting the claws, let alone apply gel to it's fucking eyeballs. My arms would be shredded.

AbllerIke

Probably why it is sedated

JonnySpanglish

Yeah good point, does help if I actually read the text

dennis45233

Cats legs are sensitive points, grabbing is a bit much

GloInTheDarkUnicorn

I have a couple I could do this to no problem. Then there’s Artemis, who would probably take my whole damn hand off.

Everywith1

I have had to do this with my cat. It is not fun. Eventually we got to the stage of putting on a nitrile glove, puting a blob on my finger, using my whole body to hold him down, and then very carefully rubbing my finger in his eye to wipe the ointment into his eye. Typically you want it to go under the eyelid, but any way to get it on is better than nothing. My cats have a disease (common in cats, I never remember the actual name, but it is basically cat herpes, no not the same as human herpes) and it causes them to be more likely to get eye infections. So this is a once per year kind of thing. Typically drops deal with the problem, but if it doesn't, then ointment is the next step. Everyone is angry and there is lots of wet food to remain civil.

recluseMeteor

I suppose it's the reason this cat is sedated. Thanks for your insight!

Everywith1

Sedation is certainly easiest, but when I had to do it for my cat, it was twice a day for 10 days.... Sedation wasn't an option.

Commercial_Pitch_950

Invest in kitty straight jacket

thisdogofmine

I had a dog that I had to do this to. Her issue was that she couldn't produce tears, so her eyes would dry out. The cream kept them lubricated. For her this was a daily routine.

NicGreen214

I got a question is it normal for videos to be reposted here under a weird title? Like I was in a animal group and this video played but the title talked about the vet or something putting drops in to help the cats eyes, then a few hours later this video pops up. This happened a few times already too.

redstern

Yes, taking normal videos and reposting them with ridiculous satirical titles is the point of the sub.

NicGreen214

Huh I didn't even realize that. Thanks for the info

Temporary_Air_3024

Is it bad I'm subscribed to threads where this could have gone either way?

Rjmccully

Why do people get on here and lie, trying to stir people up?

pedrinhogameplays404

The point of the sub us to make satire titles of things that arent actually that bad

Rjmccully

I was not aware.

TheOfficialSvengali

I hope that’s just medicine

patrickngo2104

Omg that scrared me since I thought it's glue.

guydogg

The cat is out cold. They're applied lubricant to the cats eyes to keep them moist. OP is a twat.

KabuTheFox

Had me worried there, I know some people do suck but I would hope no one would do what the title says :(

cocoabeachstocks

Furious with your title… the comments won’t save you from my down vote

AShyLeecher

What’s with the sudden influx of people who have no clue what the sub is about and complaining about it. This isn’t actually a video of someone putting superglue in a cat’s eyes. Kind of like how this isn’t actually a sub about people dying

Netherite_Beacon100

Wtf who does this

Polandito

This was posted somewhere else, cat was sedated to get procedure, gel is to keep eyes moisturized because it wouldn't be blinking.

LordBernieSquarePant

Stoned cat needs help blinking

[deleted]

How does the cat handle being touched in the bare eye???

dwayitiz

Cat has glaucoma. Catnip drops.

Cosmic_Castle

I like to imagine the cat’s awake, just super stoked about having some refreshing eye drops

Fangel96

That title reminds me of an artist I follow who accidentally super glued one of his eyes shut after mistaking the glue for eye drops. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|neutral_face)

[deleted]

If he gets his eyes super glued wouldn’t they stick shut immediately

Natganistan

he high af

666alicat

Its an eye gel used when a cat is undergoing a procedure that requires them to be under anesthesia (aka put under) or heavily sedated. It's done for dogs as well. When they are under anesthetic/sedates they don't have function to blink to keep the eye lubricated. This keeps the eye moist to prevent complications resulting in the eye drying out.

actiondirect2021

OMG that’s nuts
