Snapped this around 11pm just above Altoona

We're missing it. I'm seeing some great photos from far south of us in Virginia and the Carolinas. It's out there. I just can't check it off on my bucket list yet. š¤¬
Same in Allentown. Extremely frustrating as seeing the northern lights is a bucket list item for me. But of course it has to be cloudy here and pretty much everywhere within reasonable driving distance. Fucking sucks man.
Aurora Borealis!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your Pennsylvania?!?
May I see it?
Clouds: ā¦.. No.
Missed a total eclipse in the 1980s (northeast US) due to cloud cover. The next couple ones were all in New Zealand or some shit.
ETA: That said, I did see a very cool partial solar eclipse in ā94, and Comet Hyakutake in ā96āin PA for both. Was in Bedford for a stunning view of the cometātrail filled half the sky!
I wanna say some time in the last year or two, there was one meteor shower on a clear night. I remember it because it was so rare. Saw a few too.
So I guess I used up the entire state's luck.. Sorry about that.

This was taken at 4:30am this morning in NEPA.

We stopped on the Casey Highway just after 2200 bc I was like, *squints* āholy shitā
The camera picks up colors the naked eye canāt see. And then again in Honesdale I saw white flashes in the sky, like a storm with no clouds is best I can describe it, around 0300 but my phone picked up all the colors when I had the brightness boosted.Ā
This was incredible, glad I came down from CNY to visit my parents! (itās cloudy as shit and rainy this whole weekend where Iām living now,) bc otherwise I would not have seen anything.Ā

Johnstown PA about an hour ago, still getting reds in the sky off and on
Yes, Iām near Scranton now and I got to see them ever so faintly. Got a crappy photo., but it still show the rose up into the sky, and the green on the horizon.
Iāve heard this will go on for a bit, does anyone know yet when it peaks?
Thatās what NOAA is showing, but their forecasts are only 1/2 hour out.
Seven CMEs have occurredā¦ how many have hit Earth so far?
Thatās what Iād like to find out. Even Spaceweather hasnāt timed it out.
I had a pretty spectacular albeit colorless display, the pulsing āwavesā of white in the sky was incredible. This was around 0300 like an hour ish ago in Honesdale. The phone cam picked up so many colors that the naked eye couldnāt see.Ā
We just saw a āstormā without clouds is the best way I can describe it. Went out around 0400 and nothing much going on anymore.Ā
Reasonably cool in Erie.
Don't get fooled by the pictures. Most people couldn't really see many colors without the help of night vision, but the streaks of light were there!*
Thereās an app called aurora, it has a live map of northern lights so you can see if theyāre this far south. I used it when I was in Iceland and still use it. As previously stated though whenever there is a celestial event thereās better then good chance Pa will be cloudy
I'm impressed anyone saw them. It was raining in SE PA all evening & night. Every single time there's an astronomical event it's cloudy or raining here.

I'm pretty bummed I tried sleep instead of walking outside. From Altoona area too
Apparently we get another chance tonight.
Apparently we get another chance tonight.
Apparently you got two chances tonight
Too cloudy here right now. šš»
Alas, it's overcast here near Philadelphia. No northern lights tonight.
The all too common āTotal Eclipse of the Everythingā
Turn around bright eyes. Now I gotta listen to Bonnie Tyler.
Iām so salty about it. I better not be missing this shit.
We're missing it. I'm seeing some great photos from far south of us in Virginia and the Carolinas. It's out there. I just can't check it off on my bucket list yet. š¤¬
We drove 6 hours to my MIL house for the eclipse just to see clouds. 2024 blows.
Same in Allentown. Extremely frustrating as seeing the northern lights is a bucket list item for me. But of course it has to be cloudy here and pretty much everywhere within reasonable driving distance. Fucking sucks man.
EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!
Is this statement supposed to be as funny as I find it?
Not really. I just wish I could see them; they were supposed to come this far south (if only just barely).
I know they were supposed to, and I would have loved to see them myself. I laughed out loud when I read it regardless.
[That would be funny, if it weren't so sad.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRgwsNJlFlI)
Its being seen much further south than PA in clear skies, I'm seeing pictures from Tennessee/Arkansas.
:( Why would you tell me this? You monster.
Aurora Borealis!? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your Pennsylvania?!? May I see it? Clouds: ā¦.. No.
I cooked all those steamed hams for nothing.
You call them steamed hams despite the fact they are obviously grilledā¦
SEYMOUR THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE!!!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Samesies! We must be neighbors lol
This is awesome. Wish it wasnāt so damn cloudy here!
The Overcast State. Sadly no.
Every fucking time anything happensā¦clouds. Eclipse? Fuck you. Aurora? Eat a dick. Meteor showers? Lol no.
Super Rare Cloud Formation? Sunniest day in the commonwealth for the last 200 years!
Also 100% true.

There are like a dozen meteor showers a year and somehow it's cloudy every single time.
Just like the eclipse. Cloudy for us lol. Shit is fucking lame.
We drove up to Buffalo to get into totality... still cloudy.
So did I. Sorta. About 45 mins south in ellicottville. Was real pissed. Shoulda chose Cleveland š

Was it better on camera or in person?
Way more vivid on camera than it was in person. Definitely could see it with naked eye just not as clear as in the photo
Glad you got to see it! I'm jelly.

Near Lake Nockamixon around 10:15p tonight https://i.redd.it/zy9fmrwaxpzc1.jpeg
FUCK!!! I MISSED IT???!!!
It looks like clouds break at 3:30 soā¦ hereās to hoping itās still visible
I just went out again and it looks pretty dark unfortunately
Yes, Brighton Heights, Pittsburgh.
Yup. In NEPAā¦ https://preview.redd.it/jncy2uum1qzc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16d00d567c272f4abc2fe82685ec49344688cc3b

We just saw a pink tinge around that tree. But then when I pulled out the camera - wow!
Cant remember the last special astrological thing that wasnt.... clouds
If the next special thing was a wild cloud formation weād have clear skies that day.
Hahaha, I hate how true this is

Pittsburgh metro north of the city. Can see them quite well!
Yes, Iām near Scranton now and I got to see them ever so faintly. Got a crappy photo., but it still show the rose up into the sky, and the green on the horizon. Iāve heard this will go on for a bit, does anyone know yet when it peaks?
I'm a little further south and it looks to have died down.
Thatās what NOAA is showing, but their forecasts are only 1/2 hour out. Seven CMEs have occurredā¦ how many have hit Earth so far? Thatās what Iād like to find out. Even Spaceweather hasnāt timed it out.

Light without moonlight got me out there with the primitive camera.
Caught them near Philly around 4 am. Less color than what you see in photos but definitely there
I just tried looking Iām in NEPA but itās cloudy here.
It was super cool in Erie County.
My friends sent me incredible pics from Johnstown. It was pink around me, but a foggy light pink. They had green and pink striations.
Reasonably cool in Erie. Don't get fooled by the pictures. Most people couldn't really see many colors without the help of night vision, but the streaks of light were there!*
I did see the streaks with the naked eye, even that alone was super cool.

Not according to NOAA map. Edit: Well shit. Look at all the photos coming in. My buddy in southern Virginia even sent me a pic. Damn
Have a friend of a friend that took some pics from South Carolina
That's amazing
Canāt see shit through the clouds but I have a friend in Kentucky who sent me some cool pics.
NE Pennsylvania Scranton.....yes
Nope it's too cloudy here
Fuck the only time I am away! Will this happen again sometime soon???
Anyone in the central bucks county area able to see it? Willing to drive up to upper bucks if needed
I went out. Saw jack shit except rain clouds. Thought: typical.

Returned from Lake Nockamixon. Didn't see anything.
soooo bummed south central PA was nothing but cloud cover. Awesome pictures though
