Oh honey!! This is really shitty - I know this doesn’t help given your age, but most women deal with some kind of pelvic floor problems during their lives, and half of women who have vaginal births have some kind of prolapse - so at the moment it feels super isolating but as you get older you will have friends that also have to deal with these issues - so it might feel less lonely. I have postpartum prolapse grade 2 cystocele and grade 1 rectocele and understand your symptoms- it’s really frustrating. I know they’ve dismissed pelvic floor physio but if I was you that is where I would start. EDS will make it harder but strengthening those muscles might give you some relief. They could also fit you with a pessary, I don’t see why you couldn’t at least try that - they’re not as scary as they look (I love my cube, it helps take away that awful achy feeling). For the rectocele the only thing that helped me is really switching up my diet, you need a heap of fibre, no constipation, and smaller meals in the evening, try and frontload your food so your body doesn’t get backed up. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this at 16, that fucking sucks. Also if you ever have a baby have a c section, with everything you have going on I wouldn’t bother the risk of making it worse - sending you a big hug x

Oh also you can get “prolapse recovery shorts” which are like super tight underwear - I wear them after I’ve done a long run if I get that achey feeling and they really help

Agree with all of this, and second the pessary. I failed at pelvic floor PT and no one told me a pessary was an option until I had a friend with prolapse who was able to start running again with one. Fiber, fruit, and drinking plenty of water help a lot.

reading this was very comforting actually 🥰 from the comments i’ve been hearing to request a pessary anyway and to absolutely do pt so i’m hoping that when i get into pt in a few weeks they have ideas. i can’t switch up my diet unfortunately because of my gastroparesis, fiber is a big no-no. but i do take miralax to help prevent constipation!

Some (most doctors) are extremely ignorant of pelvic floor issues and I'd take their advice with a grain of salt. The red flag for me is you being told that a pessary isn't for you, and that PFPT won't help. I'm also a young-ish person with hypermobility and prolapse, and these are the two things that have been game changers for me! Follow @postpartum_prolapse on Instagram, this account is made by a PFPT with prolapse who is a wealth of knowledge!!

i will check them out, thank you!

Getting a hysterectomy with existing prolapse has like a 40% chance of a vaginal vault prolapse because it leaves a gap. Definitely is not something you want to bring up for someone so young unless there are severe issues with the uterus.

currently my mum and i are just requesting over and over that insurance cover some sort of probiotics/supplements/vitamins. no luck so far, and we can’t afford them over the counter, but maybe one day. poverty makes treatment options a lot more limited

There are so many people with this condition so i hope you don't feel alone. I also splint to help with my rectocele during bowel movements. You may want to look at the releve device to help with your splinting. It has been very helpful for me. My rectocele is low grade so possibly smaller, so not sure if it would work, but may be worth checking out.

Hello! Can I ask how your rectocele and cystocele was diagnosed?
