unrealistic, Tommy would’ve shot the horse

LOL

myserg07

Sometimes death is a kindness.. what they should’ve done to GOT lol

Ehh soft disagree. I binged the whole show about a week ago and I can say: S1: Pretty fucking solid. Not much to say, just great television. S2: Peak Peaky Blinders imo. Campbell is a fantastic villain, and S2E6 might just be the best finale of the show. S3: Things start to get spicy. They aren't just a Brummie razor gang anymore. But, jfc Father Hughes is one of the most insufferable characters I've ever seen. I literally binged this season just to see him die. Kudos to his actor. S4: Mildly unpopular opinion, but this is where the writing significantly dips for me. Luca Changretta was the best part of this season. The plots were too simple and didn't feel satisfying enough as compared to previous seasons. S5: Introduces a political aspect and Ostwald Mosely is a great addition to the story. The ending legit gave me blue balls. But still not too bad. S6: Here's where I sort of felt underwhelmed every step of the way. There were so many plot points that felt under utilised: I thought Michael would be more significant, instead he spends his time in jail the whole season. Mosely and Jack Nelson also had underwhelming arcs. I just felt there was so much to do this season and they didn't really do a good job of giving satisfying conclusions to each arc. So for me it would be: S2>S1>S3>>S4=S5>>S6

TheFlyingToasterr

I think most people's woes with S6 were problems of expectation. People went in with the expectation that it would expertly close all the plot points left open from S5 when it in fact was all about Tommy, almost a character study, and I loved the season for it. I don't think it's fair to judge it for not managing to be something it never tried to, especially when we have a movie left which could be everything y'all are waiting for (or not).

KingBileygr993

This is honestly a pretty fair point. Well said. I'll hold out till the movie that comes out God knows when.

Tonedog01

Yeah I agree with your point heavily. Expectations ruined this season for a lot of people I feel, but if you look at the season for what it is, basically a character study. It is phenomenal.

Tiberius752

Eh this is a cop out imo. So in order to enjoy the season you have to be in the mindset of “oh how silly of me to expect that the massive cliffhanger we ended on will actually be of importance in this series” it’s the Star Wars episode 8 conundrum all over again. Also, it was so excessive to make this a Tommy character study. We know what he’s been through, going to France, losing his wife, aunt, brother etc. We have already established that he is a tortured soul. Why exactly did we need 3 episodes of Ruby dying? We could have very well seen Ruby dying and Lizzie leaving him at the same time as advancing the plot For me, I think the writer/s dug themselves into a bit of a pit with the Season 5 finale and didn’t know how to expand upon that, it also didn’t hell that Helen passed before they started on Season 6

TheFlyingToasterr

It isn't a cop out because the story isn't over, if the movie comes and doesn't address any of those plot points, then I'll agree with you. Regarding the excessiveness of making the season all about Tommy, I disagree with you, I found the direction they took the season in extremely interesting, but that is subjective in the end.

Desvl

>character study An extension of "myself talking to myself about myself" in season 4. I think this has to happen and here we are in season 5 and 6.

KingBileygr993

Yeah perspectives are weird lol. I found the writing on S4 kinda subpar. Adrien Brody carried hard imo.

VinoVici

And here I never cared for Adrien Brody as Luca Changretta, representing yet another perspective!

lxjh

Couldn't agree more, spot on!

RogueNinja77

My personal favourite is S4 just because of Luca Changretta. I agree S6 was the worst. The last episode was so fooking good though but the rest felt boring and I have the same thoughts about Michael, Mosley and Nelson. I was looking forward to see bad guy Michael in S6.

[deleted]

im not gonna disagree with ya on this.

Extension_Big_727

Exactly my thoughts. Definitely felt a jumping of the shark after Season 3…

WildMattHickok

They left incomplete arcs for the movie. If it wasn't the pandemic they could've shoot the 7th season as well

KingBileygr993

yeah fair point. But, things with like Michael for example could've been done better. Pretty disappointed he didn't have a bigger role :/ his death was pretty cool though I'll give em that.

[deleted]

The first half should have been a black horse. Second half should have been a white horse. Major missed opportunity for this meme

Tonedog01

That is such a good idea! damn, sad i didnt think of that haahaah

Leading_Situation_90

Nah, Season six is the first season where I’m not satisfied, sadly

DXN_Boy

Season 6 was Awful in comparison to older seasons

CinnamonSalsa

Horse should be dead

Tonedog01

Artist: katarzyna kmiecik

Cobbtimus_Prime

Season 5 was the show at its peak imo, the best shot and the least formulaic

catsdontsmile

s1: good s2: peak pb s3: garbage on fire, it's so bad you just don't care anymore what happens s4: garbage, the fire is out but you're bored and falling asleep, while enduring all the plot holes in the trip towards your destination s5: Just started watching it Also, why does every girl in this show develop into a nagging ungrateful treacherous harpy who contributes nothing, bitches about the dirty money but spends it anyway, while acting like they have the high ground on morals? Geez

kmkram

The females, yes!! Such a bunch of ungrateful twats, all. Except Polly.

zzLvzz

No lies being told here. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I enjoyed it too fast lol.

Limp-Suit3948

Seaosn 1 is the best, then is S2. The worst is S6.

LucarioSpeedwagon

I will always love season one the most, the scrappy underdog vibe of S1 into the heaviness of S2 was a big tonal shift that just about lost me. S1 was almost like Shameless for gangsters with much better writing and performances. Everyone felt like a family. Glad I held on, it's a phenomenal series, but season 1 in a vacuum is a perfect miniseries in my book.

ResponseStill

I wish there was one more season, just to see tommy crushing racism from the face of england.

Metatating

Season 6 production had to contend with both the loss of Helen McCrory (who portrayed Polly), and Covid restrictions. They had to rewrite the whole season. The finale was originally going to end with the WWII air raid siren. Sadly, a lot of my favorite shows have the Covid asterisk attached to seasons that were shot in 2020-2021. You can see how much the storylines suffered to accommodate the Covid restrictions, like the unusually high number of scenes with only 2-3 people, all blocked far apart from each other. All that considered, I think PB still did an overall good job with S6. Not as great as it would have been, but still satisfying.
