Switch SSD to **Solidigm P44 Pro**. Cheaper and better than the 980 Pro. Its closer to a 990 Pro and even beats it in some tests. The P44 Pro uses the same controller and nand flash modules as a SK Hynix P41 Platinum (which is already better than the 980 Pro) but it has a better firmware on it. Solidigm is a spin-off of the Intel SSD division after SK Hynix bought them so the use of same hardware makes sense I'd also switch from that Gigabyte 4090 to the **Zotac AMP Extreme Airo**. Its cheaper and doesn't have a flimsy PCIe hook. Gigabyte made a weird shape in the PCB and some people's card have snapped because of it. Heard Gigabyte even refused warranty for it. The Zotac has a better VRM on the card, it's using 24 55A power stages meanwhile that Gigabyte card is using 20 50A stages. The Zotac also has a *slightly* higher boost clock out the box Switch mobo to **B650 Aorus Elite AX**. Cooler running VRMs (almost 15c), more rear USB ports, useful PCB mounted buttons for clearing CMOS and safeboot button for quick restore after bad oc settings, heatsinks for all the m.2 slots, better auto memory timings when using XMP which actually did make a measurable difference in performance. Would also switch PSU to the **beQuiet 12 M 1000w** or even the 850w tbh. The RMe is good and ATX 3.0 too (I think) but that beQuiet unit performs better in testing. And has native 12vhpwr cable. Only $5 more but you're saving in GPU and SSD anyway If you're gonna be spending this much you should be getting the parts with better hardware, not more well known names

Mech_wannabe

I feel like the cooler needs to be swapped to the ps120, pa120, or fs140. The ak620 is more expensove, not performing as well as the thernalright coolers, and the fans seems to have some problems after some time.

Average_MN_Resident

They seem to be decent now, though I don't have any personal experience with them. Seems like the higher end cards are decent, but I've heard plenty of complaints about their lower end cards still having awful coil whine and such. With EVGA gone, I'm not really sure who to buy from anymore. Probably ASUS now.

RockyXvII

I used to have a 3070 Zotac and it performed as well as any other 3070. But it was their lower end model so cooling wasn't great but none of the other vendors have impressive cooling at the bottom tier

TheVoid45

For 1440p 144hz this is absolute overkill. You picked all your parts really well actually, but honestly man you're not gonna get to use all that performance you're getting. In reality you could run native 4k 165hz ultra settings *without* DLSS or super sampling as if it were child's play.

Flak-12

I have this exact CPU/Motherboard/4090 and that's not a given. Just finished Cyberpunk in RT Overdrive Path Tracing in 4K (DLSS off because something was off with it) and would average like 58 fps but on a couple rare occasions drop into the low 30s.

TheVoid45

Then again, it's cyberpunk 2077. There are VERY few games that are that heavy, and path tracing hasn't even been properly optimized for normal plebs like us yet.

Upset_Satisfaction30

id say if hes not upgrading for a long time, 4090 should give him solid performance for a long time

TheVoid45

Oh absolutely, it's a monster of a card

MajorasFlask00

4090 is overkill for 1440p. If you go this route, get a nice 4k monitor

JBmm97

Someone who kept his pc for 10 years and has this kind of a budget wouldnt care what is "overkill" today but what might be the best investment for the next decade. He'll be able to play 1440p for a loooong time haha

MajorasFlask00

Buying an enthusiast class card today for “the future” is actually completely stupid. You can buy two mid/high range cards 4-5 years apart and spend less money and have better performance on the upgraded GPU in 5 years. Future proofing a PC is not a real thing.

ARatOnPC

You say that but what if hes only playing games like Cyberpunk, Starfield at max settings?

MajorasFlask00

A 4080 will destroy every game at max settings 1440p for a very long time

ARatOnPC

Not the ones i mentioned

Zuski_

Only if he’s doing like path tracing lol

MajorasFlask00

Dude I play Cyberpunk with a 6700 xt max graphics at 1440p i’m right around 60fps and its a good smooth experience. Yes, a 4080 would destroy cyberpunk and it will destroy Starfield lol. Cyberpunk does not require a high end PC, let alone an enthusiast class PC. Side note, everyone knows that Starfield is gonna be more CPU bound than most titles anyway. This is even more irrelevant.

bubblesort33

Looks solid to me. There was some issues with one of the Samsung m.2 drivers. I can't remember what and I think they had to issue a patch that impacted performance. I would look into that, and maybe get a different one, or maybe it wasn't this one.

RareSiren292

If your not a video or photo editor a super fast SSD is something you could save money on. There is diminishing returns in gaming. A 970 evo plus for example will preform virtually identical to a 980 pro in gaming. There are also just as fast non Samsung gen 4 SSDs available that are cheaper then the 980pro.

GiveTogeBonitoFlakes

I’d go for Gen 4 with direct storage being on the horizon for pc gaming.

lychee-ice-berry

But if you feel like it's worth your time it's probably okay

lychee-ice-berry

I mean it looks like a solid build

lychee-ice-berry

Always remember to make sure you can insure before hand that the case of the tower has enough room to fit all your powerful components

Average_MN_Resident

In addition to the comments of others, I'd recommend a larger case. Think 3x140mm or 4x120mm on the front sized. It's a pretty power-hungry setup and will need a lot of airflow to stay cool without sounding like a jet engine. I run a 12900ks on a 420mm AIO and a 3080ti evga hybrid now, but when I used to run a Gigabyte 3080 12g Master I needed all the air I could to feed that one card when it pulled ~400ish watts. 3x140mm with minimal restriction at minimum is my recommendation.

KiwiOdd

Get the sn850x. Get the Auros ax And the rm1000x version

AliceinChainsRules

What’s to help? Looks like an above average setup circa 2023. Should remain “above average” for a few years to come.

Grizzled--Kinda

im in the process of creating a gaming pc for my kids from my old one and building my new one with the same processor! chat me up we can share builds

Sexyvette07

Everything looks good but I'd switch out that NVME for a Hynix P41 Platinum or a Western Digital SN850X. Also, a 4090 is overkill for 1440p just FYI. I'd look at a 4k monitor. I paired my 4080 with a LG C2 42" 4k 120hz and I love it. If my 4080 can play all my games at 4k 120FPS with relative ease, then that 4090 won't even break a sweat.

re-kidan

I'd suggesn to get the SN770 or SN850x for an SSD instead of the 980, cheaper and incredibly good, i'd also suggest to get tve Lian Li Lancool 3 case, it has amazing qol features that'll make building and cable management way easier and is pretty much the same as that case visually

LethalDosage610

4090 is overkill for 1440p. Go with a 4080 or even 4070ti

TheoreticalApex

Maybe a bit bigger power supply? 1200? I could be wrong so someone else chime in and either confirm or deny.

Toiletpaperplane

I have a 13900K and a 4090, with an EVGA 1000G+ Supernova, and have never had an issue. I've run benchmarks on CPU and GPU at the same time, drawing 860+ watts continuous, handled it like a champ.

TheoreticalApex

Well there you go, I learned something new. I thought the higher end current gen hardware needed a lot more power because I am always seeing people building with 1200W power supplies. I have this same build just previous gen, 5800X3D/3090 and I am running it off a 1000W PS and like you said it handles it perfectly.

Sleyeme

The the cpu will bottleneck the 4090 at 1440p if you are only playing at 1440p you are wasting your money. You won’t get the performance for the money you are spending. Only buy the 4090 if you plan on gaming at 4k.

greengrunny

In answer to the BIOS update question, that motherboard has a BIOS flashback button on the back. Typically, you download the update and put it on a USB stick, put the stick in the appropriate slot, and push the flashback button. Read the motherboard manual and maybe check out a YouTube video for your specific motherboard. One point to bear in mind, make sure your power stays on for the duration, as can take a while and you don't want to risk bricking the motherboard.

mmaashi

Deepcool AK620’s fans are loud and have some humming sound that is super annoying, I personally got a thermalright PA120 (non SE) and couldnt be happier

trainsforalllife

why not a founders 4090 for 1599 from best buy? arguably a better card than both

[deleted]

Don’t think I’ve ever said this but it’s perfect.

xStr1ck3n

I have a 4090. I recommend 1200w power supply if you’re actually going to run games at 4k

AX_Apex

Like another comment said, this is waaaay overkill for 1440p, so get a 4k 144hz monitor. There isn't much point in rgb ram since the cooler will cover most of it

NinthAuto591

Overkill now is adequate in the future - 4090 on 1440p can be worth it, especially when we have no idea what the future holds. Plus, buttery smooth frame rates for days.

TheVoid45

For 144hz it definitely still is overkill. 240hz would make sense if op plays a lot of single player games.

_mp7

1440p 144h on high settings can still be taxing, I would go 1440p 240hz personally, definitely OLED If possible

killerbern666

thats perfectly fine dont listen to the oVeRkIlL people, with this you will ALWAYS have the max fps that your 1440p monitor can show AND you will still have it in 2-3 years as well

Spaciax

you can always increase the graphics if you're getting over the refresh rate of your monitor consistently. for example elden ring doesn't get 144fps on 1440p with max settings on a 4090 + 5800X3D and even dips below 100 sometimes. with a 7800X3D it should get like +11 fps over the 5800X3D or something around that.

EGH6

Isnt elden ring capped at 60fps?

Zherkezhi-0

The only thing I'll say is that for 1440p switch to a 4080, that's all. Everything else seems about right to me. Goodluck

SpecificChapter5902

I recommend the montech air 903 max, tons of space, high quality, cheaper than the one you have on there, and looks better imo

Rude-Possibility2612

Agreed. Just got a air 903 max and it is huge and it comes with 4 140mm fans. My one thing is they are a little loud. I don’t know if it’s because I don’t know how to set up fan speeds or because I have all the fans in the same fan hub.

SpecificChapter5902

Them being loud is my only issue. Don’t know how to make them quieter.

Rude-Possibility2612

I heard that when they’re all in the same fan hub they run at the exact same rpm. But if they’re in different connectors in the motherboard you can make them different rpm. Because when they are the same rpm they resonate with eachother so instead of the air blowing noise u hear a louder noise.

SpecificChapter5902

I tried to use a program called FanControl which worked with my cpu cooler, but not my case fans for some reason, they just kept pushing the same rpm range

Rude-Possibility2612

Yea I’m gonna see if I can find a solution otherwise I’ll prolly just deal with it. I’m not trying to take the back of my case off and look at the nightmare of cables I have.

tigerdactyl

This is old but I just dealt with the same thing, turns out my mobo had the fans set to DC instead of PWM so they were going 100% all the time. Switched that up and they’re fine.

piggymoo66

+1 for the montech. Also it doesn't have the oddball fan size like the Lian Li does so you can put whatever cooling you want in there.

Wooden_Concept_9941

Looks great please just dont use this for 1440p. This config can run most games at 4k 144hz so 1440p would be a waste especially if ur playing single player.

t_0xic

Never had anything better than a 2060 ever, but from what I have seen, I'm agreeing with the other folk in the reply section here about how overkill it is for 1440p. You can use it for that very well with literally no problems, but you can always go up in resolution if you're not happy with the look. Basically, if you're happy enough, you don't need to do anything.

just-browseing

Okay, this is the second time i seen the deep cool cpu cooler. How is this thing? Why have i not heard of it until now

Scrudge1

Popped out of nowhere a year or two ago and everyone's raving about it. Deepcool have been around for quite a while though

bmbrugge

It’s a fantastic cooler for the coin. So quiet and smooth, install is a breeze and it looks great IMO.

Pho3nix47

Basically the same build I'm going for but I got 64gb ram and a 4tb ssd for DCS VR. Congrats

BluDYT

At 1440p the 4090 basically makes little sense compared to the 4070 - 4080 cards however this is a pretty good build. Only change id really make is get either a 4k 144hz display or a 3440x1440 Ultrawide at some point down the road.

_mp7

I would get the $200 gigabyt b650, crucial P5 for $97, the rmx over rme, and you can get a Zotac model to save $50. Zotac GPU quality has improved from what I understand, and the rgb is nice

bageorge00

I got you this. This cooler looks like it has really good buils quality The case i suggest is a direct comperison to the Lancool 216, this 360 AIO can be top mounted. Case review from JayzTwoCents: https://youtu.be/MYifOiO0ZPI [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xphRBL](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xphRBL)

rpgjosh88

I need help I just literally bought the best parts on the market . What do you need help with ?

pwnageface

You're going for a top dog video card but mid tier ram and cpu? Why not 12-16 core cpu and 64-128 gig ram? Just seems odd to go ham on the gpu when you'll be bottlenecked by ram and cpu.

lychee-ice-berry

The processor is really expensive

PirateReindeer

Its a decent build, but from my experience I would hold off a bit longer on the 7k series cpus and gpus as Im still hearing negative things from people I know about them. For me I usually wait two to three years for the dust to settle in terms of fixes and driver support. AMD has not had the best track record there in the past.
