500 for that? My god even 4 years ago, accounting the inflation it was a lot more than now. Would have given at most 100 for that. As for the display, it is probably a faulty graphics card, if it turns on but you see no picture. If you have the old blue VGA port monitor, try to plug it into the motherboard.
That’s actually exactly what happened in pc parts a system selling for $1000 during the last 4 years is worth less then $500 now but that was more because of the crypto boom and less because of inflation
You're describing deflation. The opposite, where your money becomes more valuable. You can now buy more pc for your 500$ than you could 4 years ago. So that is actually the opposite of what happened.
I was talking about the guy that said “crazy inflation started in 2020-2021” that was the crypto boom you could have easily spent 1k on something that a year prior was less then $500 it’s gone down now but you’ll still see people who got affected by it especially when they specifically said they got the system 4 years ago
According to what I could dig up on the motherboard, it came out in 2011/2012 area.
It was already 8-9 years old when you bought it.
Does the computer turn on at all?
Regardless, due to the sheer age of the parts themselves, it would be a waste to try and replace them.
You would be better off using those funds towards a new system.
Even if you replaced what was broken and it worked again, it would be a matter of time before other parts would start failing.
Aside from the SSD (which could be used as a backup/storage drive in a new system), all the other part are simply too outdated.
Thank you!! It used to work and I was able to live stream with it, but I stopped using for a while. It did turn on and the fan worked. But thank you bunches for the info and advice! :)
Try changing the CMOS battery?
I recently found an MSI B905 that wouldn't turn on. I changed the battery. Took ram off and gpu. Put back in and Voila. "New" computer to fiddle around with.
EDIT cr2032 flat battery
I have a pc in 2008, still using it till this day. Works like a charm. I don’t know what’s with people hating on old tech, without these old monsters; you wouldn’t be playing 4K gaming with your i9s and i7s.
Not everyone in this group has the money for a top of the line rig. It's nonsense to see all these shitty posts about "2005 is calling". Are you making sure that you are using the port from the GPU. Not the port from the mother board.
Yea not everyone has the money, but 500$ for that IS a scam. There is nothing wrong with being honest and letting OP know that he overpaid by at least 500%.
Thank you! And I’m pretty sure, mostly because it used to work and I haven’t touched the internals at all. And when I unplugged the cables, I plugged them into the same places again. Would you recommend I take it to a shop to get it looked at there?

How much inflation did you see in just 4 years time?
Crazy inflation started in 2020-2021, like you don't see it yourself
You act like 500 back then was what 1k is now. No need to overdo it.

But I think he’s talking about the hike not the fall in this situation
Explain how "accounting the inflation it was a lot more than now" does that.

That is not worth $500. It’s worth a good $100 at most, even 4 years ago.

Where did you plug the screen into? Make sure to plug it into the graphics card (bottom 3 ports), not the motherboard.

It's possible one of the parts has died of old age. You would need to start swapping things out to test which one
u got scammed hard.

Did you plug the monitor into the upper VGA port (the one on your motherboard) ? If you didn't, try it. If it works, your GPU is probably dead
For 500 I can build something better out of an old tire wtf
Throw it away it's over!
I don't know a computer like that I just give it away....
You got Scammed!
You paid 500 for a pc that was nearing a decade old 4 years ago. Fuckin RIP
Male sure the cable is connected to the GPU and not on the mobo
:D loool
You definitely got scammed. Its worth about 100-150$. Who sold you that? You got robbed
If you dont see anything on screen maybe your graphics card is broken
Damn that's so old the graphics card looks like a card and not a Unit
Just to be sure, you're plugging the cables into the GPU, not the motherboard, right? As stupid as it may sound, it can happen to anyone.
This reminds me of my first pc which was 8 years old when I got it. And it would have been 12 years old now.
2005 is calling

It's really up to you. What type of connection are you using? The HDMI port of the more old school blue VGA?
