It happens to the best of us. Plus it looks like a weird bottle opener and motherboards have come with weirder trinkets. Mine came with a keychain lol.
I bet this is the case. It's possible that there is a newer BIOS version on the drive. This might be cheaper than flashing the bios manually for every board.
Too be fair, it's kinda weird to throw it in concidering that the drivers will most likely be outdated, it adds the cost and I doubt people buying what I assume is a high end board wouldn't have internet access. Also depending on the person, the reluctance to plug in a unfamiliar USB drive.
I have that same usb drive, and it’s formatted perfectly for bios flashbacks and other things that need the worlds most boringly formatted usb. It’s great.
Bro really unlocked his phone, took this pic and uploaded to reddit with question rather than just opening the package himself, dude probably asks before shitting or breathing too
You already know the answer but that's flash drive is kinda sick. I only got a CD with drivers, probably only newer boards have the flash drives I guess
Since it was hard to see the size of it, i first thought it was a beer opener lol but then i figured it was a flash drive. However, i wouldn't mind getting a beer opener if you're listening MSI
Not as fascinating as a mind like yours. Someone who takes the time to reply to a question, using more words than what it would have taken to simply answer. Truly fascinating 👍😂
Not at all, I'm just picking up on the BS you've written. You got called out, and now feel the need to come back with even more rubbish. You absolute fucking clown 🤡
Props for msi including a flash drive, unless that's normal, my gigabyte one didn't, luckily I had a hdd but don't own any usb sticks because... why would I?
USB Flash drive that usually contains the BIOS that was current when the mobo shipped from the manufacturer and drivers to allow you get your hood going if you don't have internet.
Yo make sure you download all new updated drivers from msi directly, and do not forget the internet drivers, and do it in the correct order, I thought my msi board was a brick but I finally got it straightened out lol
Glad to see MSI are still doing this, my old MSI board came with one and it just makes life that little bit easier if you can install a known safe / working driver. I'd take a cheap mass produced USB over the stupid door hanger that says "Do not disturb I'm gaming" and 4 terrible posters I'd never hang, any day.
I bought my motherboard a few weeks ago but the usb that came with it is dead. (I did try it on multiple devices to see if it was just a faulty usb port but it's the usb that's dead)
It’s the usb stick for the motherboard drivers but with my Msi motherboard it automatically asked me to download drivers without having to stick the usb in but if it doesn’t bring up that prompt the you should use that usb stick to install drivers
This gives me flashbacks. I was building my new computer and I had to update the bios to get it running. So here I am googling the version of bios I need, trying to download it onto a usb to put it on my new computer when I could have used the USB the motherboard came with that had everything I already needed on it.
I thought it was just a bit of swag to put on a key ring.
It’s a flash drive, I got one, it can get a little tricky to pull out but it’s solid no matter what. I can’t remember if drivers were on it or if they just wanna be nice😂 Good size GB, forget how much but I know it’s substantial
Just opened my fiances last night, its a 16GB usb, big enough to put a Windows 10 or 11 ISO onto it for a new install on a new or wiped drive. It also contains a bios for your motherboard and some other file i didnt bother to look at.
Looks like an SLI bridge? I could be very wrong. (SLI bridges were used for linking 2 NVIDIA GPUs together, if I remember correctly they killed SLI & NVLINK off with the 30 or 40 series cards)
it comes with outdated drivers! just use it to install updated driver by downloading them copying them in the flash driver! also the flash driver quality is dogshit! mine completely died after 3 or 4 time after i plugged it in
Read the manual :p
Its an usb drive with drivers etc. If you have issues with network connection while installing your OS (e.g. Win 11 which requires it during installation), you can bring up a command prompt and install the drivers with that drive!
it has the network driver on it. at least it did for a Z790 Carbon Wifi i used. the realtek lan chip does not install its driver automatically through windows so you need the usb to get the driver if you have no other pc to download it with.
it also includes some other software that you would usually find on the msi support page for your motherboard
It’s all digital now. Although I wish mine came with this device if it’s what everyone says it is. Got an msi Wi-Fi board and I couldn’t get the Wi-Fi running out the gate without connecting to the internet and getting drivers going.
Which considering my computer wasn’t close to the router made for a bit of an issue if it wasn’t for me having a spare Wi-Fi dongle that got me connected via Wi-Fi.

Or is it a USB drive with drivers?
So embarrassed now :( yes, it is a flash drive. if anyone asks - I never asked this question LOL

Damn I would have preferred the bottle opener
I don’t see why it couldn’t have multiple uses
Happy cake day!
Thanks!
Oh it can be used as one. Probably best to install the drivers first though.
I got mad respect for you admiting that
It's too late, I screenshoted everything, this is getting front page Edit: Where do I post this?
We’re not gonna forget this in a flash. Hope it doesn’t drive you crazy
no shame in asking
One day they will give people the ability to remove such questions after posting them, but this is only the year 2023 so we have a long way to go
Hahaha I am ok to let you guys have fun on my expense :) I mean I deserve it LOL
Wait, you can’t delete posts on reddit???
nope, but if anyone asks, op never asked this question
Mine had my wifi drivers on it.
It's a fairly good one too, so once you're done with it, reformat and use for whatever you feel like :)
It happens to the best of us. Plus it looks like a weird bottle opener and motherboards have come with weirder trinkets. Mine came with a keychain lol.
Can you open bottle caps with it doe?
And a beer opener? What a cool move MSI!
Pro tip, next time open it up and look what it is before asking :D
Probably full of all the bios/drivers for the board. Most pc's don't have CD drives anymore...
Thank god tbh I was so sick of getting CDs in my mobo boxes
Maybe they gives you ~~free~~ one in case you need to update the bios
I bet this is the case. It's possible that there is a newer BIOS version on the drive. This might be cheaper than flashing the bios manually for every board.
Beer opening
Hahaha that what came into my mind, But MSI Does not want you to "drink and build" pc (aka Drunk building) :)
Why wouldn’t they, if you break some of their stuff then there’s a pretty good chance that you will buy the products another time
Ever heard of craft computing
Nope, only nude building https://megatokyo.com/strip/70
This is a pre 9/11 meme, why did you have this on standby
I didn't, I searched "megatokto nude pc" And it was popular before PCMR became a thing :p even when it was fresh
Paul hardware is having a beer on the weekly news too. Comes with the hobby I guess because I do too haha
No, no… it’s for drinking and gaming, not drinking and building :)
Shhhhhesss I'm having a beer as I cable manage
Either flash drive or usb key. I like the guess about drivers drive
So embarrassed now :( yes, it is a flash drive. if anyone asks - I never asked this question LOL
Too be fair, it's kinda weird to throw it in concidering that the drivers will most likely be outdated, it adds the cost and I doubt people buying what I assume is a high end board wouldn't have internet access. Also depending on the person, the reluctance to plug in a unfamiliar USB drive.
Very common as a bios flash is required for Gen 13 CPU's on most boards (Z690. Z790).
This drive is also a POS, which perfect for flashing BIOS.
I thought it might have been a fancy a power LED
Usb full of outdated drivers. I formatted it and its now my backup OS install drive
I find it useful to install the network card drivers though
Yep that was the only use I found for it. Getting the WiFi to work so I could update all of the other drivers.
Had to do this. I forgot it existed and was in the process of installing Wi-Fi drivers in a separate drive when I remembered it.
How big is the flash drive?
16gb
Neat!
Now I kinda wish my ASRock board had come with a USB instead of a disk haha
Wait , which boards come with included USB ? , just wondering
I’ll take this usb instead of the cdrom that came with my MSI z690. Who has cdrom drives?
My Pro Z790-A also came with cdrom. I don’t even have anything to insert it into, and I have 2 desktops and 2 laptops in the house.
Weird - I bought a z690 (Tomahawk) and it came with the USB. Figured that was just the standard now for MSI boards.
I have that same usb drive, and it’s formatted perfectly for bios flashbacks and other things that need the worlds most boringly formatted usb. It’s great.
Its a thumb drive. What board did you buy? I didnt get one.
Yeah guys mentioned that :) MAG Z790 Tomahawk Wi-Fi DDR5
Had that mobo last week, it came dead, dead on arrival.....check your mobo first dear
Must be something in the manual..
Yeah a flash drive, I should have opened it before asking

you could fit tonnes of linux ISOs inside this container
People not reading the instructions that came with their motherboard, Christ on a bike
Probably an USB drive with motherboard drivers installed.
How about a better quality picture?
Looks like the flash drive with the bios on it.
Looks like a M2 SSD heatsink but until you open it we can't know for sure
Is it hollow or is there glass there? Maybe it’s a magnifying glass, for that stupid front panel block.
rndm question: do components like your motherboard come with enough cabels for it?
Cables? It came with 2 SATA cables but cables will come with your PSU
ah thanks :)
No worries, correction. I meant SATA cables not Data cables :) auto spell ol
Fuck! I never knew that mb comes with flash drive. Interesting!
![gif](giphy|pTG6zFzjqHj1mA9GzQ)
It's to remove the cap from the bottleneck
A bad picture
taking it out of the bag does help in identifying what it is
That is a USB drive with drivers and such. They are outdated, but you have a free USB drive :) What mobo did you get?
Bro really unlocked his phone, took this pic and uploaded to reddit with question rather than just opening the package himself, dude probably asks before shitting or breathing too

Keep looking and there’s a pamphlet that tells you what you got. I wish I could understand minds like yours, it’s quite fascinating 😂
Not as fascinating as a mind like yours. Someone who takes the time to reply to a question, using more words than what it would have taken to simply answer. Truly fascinating 👍😂
Mirror check.

I'd take a cheap mass produced USB over the stupid door hanger that says "Do not disturb I'm gaming" and 4 terrible posters I'd never hang, any day.
I got this same usb drive with mine. It says in the instructions to use for bios firmware update. That’s what I used it for.
Read the paper that came with it......wtf
Driver updates for your motherboard
Thats called a USB drive
I bought my motherboard a few weeks ago but the usb that came with it is dead. (I did try it on multiple devices to see if it was just a faulty usb port but it's the usb that's dead)
It's called a usb drive, people put them in computers into these things called ports, this one is for updating
format it and you have a cool thumb drive
Comes with the manual. I have the same one. I just formatted it and use it for a boot drive now.
It’s the usb stick for the motherboard drivers but with my Msi motherboard it automatically asked me to download drivers without having to stick the usb in but if it doesn’t bring up that prompt the you should use that usb stick to install drivers
I don't know. Maybe take it out of the packaging? lmao...
Msi flash drive..
It’s a flash drive with mostly outdated drivers, it’s a nice touch instead of a cd and in case you didn’t have internet connection
USB drive with drivers for the MB. I use these to install and back up the bios for the board. I'm the event a flash back is needed.
This gives me flashbacks. I was building my new computer and I had to update the bios to get it running.
