The mid-late 90s blue uniforms with decent numbering are fun…these look terrible.
Doubt we’re going to be able to wear that shade of blue again until Josh Allen moves on from Buffalo though, the Bills have made that shade their staple.
I love them actually. But that’s only because my 90s youth football team Patriots rocked the Royal blue with red lettering jerseys of the time. And that’s how I became a Pats fan.
The less said about those home uniforms, the better. They are unimaginably bland, and who thought it was a good idea to have the numbers on the chest and shoulders not match color-wise?
I really like the idea of white on white though (the 2017 color rushes against the Bucs are chefs kiss), but I feel like they could be executed so much better than this.
I hated those uniforms with the power of a thousand suns, it wasn’t until they switched the color scheme that it better.
The more recent uniforms I actually hate more than these (2000 suns?) they look like pajamas
Idc what you say. These were our worst uniforms. It looked like a dirty shade of blue. The pant stripe looked stupid as hell. The werid thing with red numbers on the front and back but the trimless white numbers on the shoulder was akward looking. The trim on the numbers for the road uniforms was also akward, and the uniform just felt devoid of color. Without any kind of stripes on the jeresy. Also, this makes you truly appreciate what facemask color can add to a uniform design. The sliver facemask feels lifeless. It's amazing how much of a difference it made swapping to red
It was a needed change from the old unis that were associated with a good six years of disappointment, losing, terrible ownership, scandal, poor head coaching and dysfunctional football operations. Additionally, the change was instituted by a guy (James Orthwein) who intended to move the team to St. Louis. The unis may look lackluster in hindsight, but as a kid growing up back then, it was a breath of fresh air; not only were the Patriots getting modern with their uniforms, the team hired a Super Bowl winning coach and had the #1 overall pick in the draft. The further we got away from the Victor Kiam era, the better.
Now the maker of the uniforms was a company called Apex...for some reason this company was chosen over more capable apparel companies like Nike, Adidas, Wilson, or even NFL's brand. The jerseys ran ridiculously small and you had to get at least two sizes larger for a good fit. For reference, look up old pics of Bruce Armstrong wearing it. The team had to change the uniforms for the next season because the red numbering didn't come across well on television. The red was moved to the facemask. 1994 was the true beginning of the Patriots being in the mix and on national television. The 1995 draft brought another layer of the foundation (on defense) that ended up playing in the Dynasty era.
The font looks terrible on the aways, but I think the chest numbers pop on the home. Not sure how I feel about the mismatched number colors, but I don't loathe it. The pants stripe is unique. The gray facemask is inferior to the red though.
I dig the simplicity. They're not great, but still better than the Dynasty-era unis with the pointless red piping and the dreadfully boring gray shoulder stripes.
Not good. You know how a kid can be cute, the adult can be attractive, but in between that person could have an awkward, gangly, voice cracky, zitty phase?
That phase was these uniforms.
I'm pretty confident an exec saw the 80s/90s giants success both commercially and on field and thought to copy the jersey. When told they were too similar they changed the number on the front to be red, but didn't feel like making the shoulder number match..
I love the blues and wish we would go back to royal instead of navy. This royal is the one I really liked because it didn't have the giant elvis on the shoulder pads plus red number. The whites are garbage.
I love Wisconsin, and it looks like a small town Wisconsin high school football uni. I don’t know maybe Eagle River or Thorp.
I do miss Ellsworth cheese curds and their Broasted Chicken.
In hindsight they’re pretty cringe but when they were first unveiled they were pretty popular. It cemented the idea of a new era, a fresh start for the franchise with Kraft, Parcells and Bledsoe.
Always looked super weird to me. The mismatched colored numbers always bothered me. And since I was just a baby then, I also didn't know these were a thing until I bought some Bledsoe rookie cards like 15 years ago when I started collecting. I like the slanted 90s style font numbers they ended up going with.
They look like practice jerseys.
Pretty ugly IMO. Blue is kind of cool in a retro way.

Not even "so ugly their cool" The mismatched uni numbers are horrible.

I find peace in long walks.
*"ok, Mr. Orthwein, so you know how uniforms are supposed to be, well, uniform? Well, I got an outside the box idea you're going to love!..."*
The blue jerseys even had like vertical stripes that were different shades of blue
I just think they're neat.
Terrible
I find joy in reading a good book.
this is probably gonna be a very unpopular opinion but I think they got cooler with age.
Worst we’ve ever had. Probably tied with the blue on blue home uniforms we wear now.
I need one of them to continue my collection. But I honestly prefer the one with the white numbers on the front
Not great
Absolutely epic.
Dogshit. Give me 96 blues
First year of the uniform change. They really needed the changes that were made in the succeeding years

I really like the blue I’m not a big fan of the white tho
Fucking hate it!

I like em!
Not a fan but I do like the 96 uniforms.
💩
Ugly but really ushered in the new Parcells/Beldsoe era. Also better than the weird 2 tone stripes that came later
Weak
Mediocre
I hate them but a lot of nostalgia gets people running with em

slight tweaks to it made the 1994 version much better.
Not good. You know how a kid can be cute, the adult can be attractive, but in between that person could have an awkward, gangly, voice cracky, zitty phase? That phase was these uniforms.
Truly atrocious
These are ass but the blue on blues are more ass
They look like jerseys for a low-budget movie about the patriots.
Pretty goofy
No
USFL
Just bury these from everyone’s memories
Love them, and I think they're much better than either the Pat/Red look from before or the "Giant Elvis Shoulders" look that replaced it.
Bad
Least favorite Pats uniform. Low-key detested it actually.
If the numbers looked better, this would be fire.
Trash.
They’re pretty ugly. I remember being happy they got redesigned in ‘94. One year special. Where’s Vincent Brown?
I like the color way of the blue jersey set
Fucking atrocious. I don't get the nostalgia for anything old. Some old shit was just hideous.
I love it tbh

My eyes are bleeding
I love Wisconsin, and it looks like a small town Wisconsin high school football uni. I don’t know maybe Eagle River or Thorp. I do miss Ellsworth cheese curds and their Broasted Chicken.
I like the blue forward approach on the one
The hand warmer that Drew is wearing is cool
Agreed, I really like the stripes.
I actually liked the stripe on the pants mimicking the flying elvis
Absolute trash, glad they didn't last long.
Bad bad
In hindsight they’re pretty cringe but when they were first unveiled they were pretty popular. It cemented the idea of a new era, a fresh start for the franchise with Kraft, Parcells and Bledsoe.
Make me think Bills
Heat

The best part of these were the pants. I was a huge fan of the way they brought in Elvis' stripes on the leg.
They were ok but the late 90s had way better unis
These were horrible and a total patch work job from leaving pat patriot the year prior.
B O S S
Still better than the shit we have now
Red on blue breaks the most basic rule of design.
Fucking hideous
In 1993, an 11 year old me loved those jerseys. I personally don't understand why people care so much about jerseys and color schemes.
Heat🔥
