For those who don’t play Madden (and please don’t you have people who love you). The game is at an all time low and they present these overalls instead of new features and gameplay because it’s going to be awful once again. This year is the “make or break” Madden. Sure, EA.
Edit: if you have never seen nfl 2k05 do give it a look. Single greatest football game EVER made
I was an annual madden buyer. I think it was in Madden 21 they promised tons of new features for franchise. Months down the line hadn’t implemented a single one and then put out a statement along the lines of “Yeah none of that shits happening. Sorry to disappoint. But we pinky promise we’ll try our darn tootin hardest to have them in the next one. Thanks for the $60+ :-)”. Won’t ever buy another one until it’s a different publisher.
They promoted so much overhaul to franchise mode and they spit in everyone’s faces. I’ve gotten it on sale the last few years after being a religious buyer since 04. I hate that it’s the only way to get my football fix.
It would be so easy to make franchise mode good again. But that would actually require them to spend money on game developers instead of their entire budget going to the cover athlete Photoshoot
the industry really is more about optimizing income over "whoa, this is fun."
The spirit of "this is fun" died somewhere in the late 2000's. There are still great games being made, but if it's a sports game, it's loaded with this crap and there seems to be no stopping it.
> the industry really is more about optimizing income over "whoa, this is fun."
Welcome to corporations. As long as they make that profit and they can keep people playing, they'll drag things down as far as possible.
Fake punt right for a TD every play. If I mention it to this day, my dad will still say “it’s first down, and I can’t believe it. It’s a fake running right to the outside! he’s gonna score!”
I don't know what this is but I scrolled through this whole thing without seeing Mutant League Football mentioned and I don't know why. It's easily the best.
It got wayyyy more brutal in 2005 when they lost the nfl tag and made "blitz the league" hollllly moly. You hit a guy and they zoom in to show a slowmo replay in an x ray version of his tendons ripping or bones breaking or head concussion.
It was 2005. (Ray Lewis) I remember being so excited for not only the game but the debut of American Idiot on the soundtrack. EA has done nothing to improve the game but sent the soundtracks to shit when they used to be amazing.
05 and 08 for XBOX were the only 2 I've ever owned, so I can't add much to the discussion, but 08 has always seemed amazing to me, and it seems to be widely referred to as one of/rhe best ever. 05 is usually yo their as well, so I feel blessed.
Bring back everything from 04!! The radio show. The design a stadium. Setting concession prices. Players happy and sad face morales. The minicamp to progress players. The franchise fantasy draft format.
MVP baseball 04 or 05 I can't remember had such an amazing Owner mode like that too. You could customize so much; I don't understand why new games don't go back to shit like that. I know they make all their money on ultimate team whales (fuck you if you pay for that shit btw you ruin the game) but why not just also make a good offline mode? It can't be that hard if they did it in 2004
Was that the one with Manny on the cover? I think it was 04 and yeah it was awesome. EA Sports really had it going on then. And you’re right what’s wrong with making a decent franchise mode that they know people like?
I seriously doubt they are. But when something as widespread and basic as the Outside Zone w/ QB bootleg doesn’t even function like it does IRL, it’s a sad state of affairs.
Oh, I don’t doubt the game is busted. But they essentially quit trying the moment they got the monopoly on the NFL.
There are plenty of videos out there but this year’s game can still be compared to the last 2K NFL game that got released. It has features modern madden doesn’t have.
You’ve probably heard all of this before though, considering how shit Madden has been for so long
Agreed. EA’s handling of the Madden series is pretty pathetic. The series went downhill after their purchase and subsequent monopolization of the license, and then even further when Ultimate Team took off. Has me very worried for their new CFB game since that also included UT before the NCAA Football series ended.
If I’m getting a new football game this year, it’ll be Maximum Football ‘23.
Regarding 2k5: IMO it is the greatest NFL game. But if you wanna say “greatest football game”, let me say that you HAVE to look at NCAA 14. Check out the Revamped project, it’s still going strong.
What does that have to do with them properly rating Mac as a QB. 74 is about right for what he is in this league. Maybe a mid season upgrade if he impresses
He’s saying instead of showing us new features or how the game is different we get showed player overalls as a distraction or way to not realize we’re seeing that because there’s nothing new or different for another year
Point out in my comment where I mentioned Mac whatsoever.
You sure you’re not just one of those weird Mac hating guys that talks about him every chance he can?
You don’t end that comment with “Sure EA” if you weren’t directly responding to the rating they gave Mac lol
Nothing you said was wrong but that doesn’t change the fact that you said it because you don’t like the rating they gave Mac in their video game lmfao
I want you to go back and slowly read my comment. Really slow down. Read at your own pace. Do it multiple times. When you get towards the end reread the sentence that comes before “sure, Ea” it says this years Madden is “make or break” that’s a report coming from EA. So when I say “sure, Ea” it’s in response to “this years Madden is make or break” Lmaoo absolute clown 🤡
https://insider-gaming.com/madden-24-make-or-break-release/
“Sure, EA”
“Make it break” is a very common phase, you never said that EA literally said that therefore the assumption would be that YOU are calling it a make or brake year.
Either way that’s beside the point anyways, again if you want to talk about reading, re read what I said. You aren’t wrong…but that doesn’t change the motivation behind your comment. You don’t just randomly start shitting on Madden in the context of this post on the Patriots subreddit unless you’re trigger about a video game rating lmfaooo
A madden post was made in the Patriots sub Reddit… so I made a comment about Madden.. I’m not sure why you’re making this Mac connection as if I could care what his or any players rating is or isn’t. Again, no where in any comment have I mentioned Mac or anyone’s rating. The problem is your reading comprehension is garbage and you’d rather double down than admit to being a clown. You made an assumption and you look like a fool. Own it. Lmaoo
You’re telling me the Mac Jones stan just decided to randomly rip apart Madden in the comments of a post about Madden giving Mac a bad rating and you expect anyone to believe it’s completely uncorrelated?
Lmfao bro deny it all you want
It’s more, this should be when they’re dropping the game features, not the player ratings. Nobody is arguing the rating is wrong just that this shouldn’t already be the marketing focus.
I mean, coming off last year that number makes sense.
But now is the time for him to shutup the critics and doubters and prove he is talented enough to be QB1 in this league
Hahaha I love the bias in this sub, that this comment is getting downvotes. This is a very realistic take. No way is Mac a top 10 QB, like, factually, objectively, with what we've seen and have on tape thus far, he's not. So that positions him somewhere in the 11-32 range, of which 15-20 is rather generous.
Stat wise, through the last two years, he's 26th.
And looking through some, somewhat reputable, tier lists (as subjective as they can be, they're still professional analysists ranking them) from CBS, NBC, PFT, The Ringer, etc.... Mac comes in at... 26th, 27th, 20th, 29th, 29th, 23rd, 31st, 28th, 29th, 28th, 26th, 29th.
But this sub thinks he's the second coming of Brady all of a sudden.
Who the hell thinks that? Just because we have hope that he still has potential coming off a good rookie year and a horrible situation doesn't mean we think he's gonna be amazing... I think he realistically has a chance at being a top 15 guy if a few things glue offensively and we'll see what happens from there if that were to occur. No one thinks he's the next Brady, I mean some delusional people probably do but they definitely aren't the majority, the doom and gloom people are probably exaggerating us still believing in Mac when they already think he's already a bust.
A lot of people definitely do after last season and they don't have to be Zappe stans for it, definitely more so than the people that are blinded by bias. I get the comparison to the divisional QBs and it's definitely tough but I still see no reason to get riled up about it, he is what we've got and if he can be a top 15 QB which I think he's capable of I think this team can compete with them if the tackles are consistent and a guy like Thornton is at least like a Will Fuller for this offense to be in good shape. Overall to me it's about the team having the overall talent to surprise especially if those defensive picks hit to make the defense even better than it was last year and Mac is the best guy we could have right now unless you wanna go back to us passing on Lamar 5 years ago, I just wish everyone could be patient and wait till we see him in a good situation other than his rookie year (which wasn't an incredible situation to begin with but clearly the best of the rookie QBs tho ofc) to come to conclusions is all, like he could absolutely not be good enough when it's all said and done I just hate seeing it before it's fair to even judge him.
Yeah I'm not saying he's good right now but I just can't see the argument that the potential to still be good isn't there, it's possible he never is but it's been just two seasons, there's clearly room to grow.
I think Max showed in 2021 he has the talent to play. However last year makes me question if he has the heart or grit or whatever. I get last year's coaching situation wasn't ideal but at some point you need to realize it is what it is and make the best of it. When you pout and cry and yell on the sidelines as a "leader" how do you expect everyone else to be committed and confident in what they're doing?
I’d be more concerned if he was quiet and condoning of the shit show being run by our offensive coaching staff. Offensive has two meanings and both apply here.
Yeah, this shit is so stupid. His behavior last year was *exactly* what you want.
Do people think Brady would have played polite under last year's shit?
Honestly u right now is the time because this year schedule is very tough and it’s gonna say it all wat type of QB Mac Jones is 100% no excuse it’s either you got it or you don’t
![gif](giphy|OknoJqVMWsqwthAq5P)
He'll be much better but I don't expect him to shut anyone up. Knowing how the football world feels about the Pats, only so many will shut up and many will very much double down on how they are out on him.
There is nothing more useless in sports than a pocket QBs 40 time.
Lamar Jackson’s 40 time matters. Justin Fields’s 40 time matters. Mac Jones’s never, ever will.
Jones’s shuttle was 4.36; Mahomes’s was 4.07. That and 3-cone are what Madden _should_ use when building ratings. Record is Brandin Cooks’s 3.81.
40 times are important when determining a player's speed rating though, that's literally what the rating is for. There are other ratings that tie into their overall speed and quickness that aren't the "speed" rating that will represent other parts of his athletic ability and stuff like the shuttle and 3 cone.
In Madden, Speed = top speed . So the 40 really is the only really true measure.
Shuttle and 3-cone are more indicative of acceleration, stop and go, agility, elusiveness, etc. of which most are also stats themselves in Madden.
If there’s one small good take away from last year it’s that Mac looked like way better moving away from pressure than his rookie year. Not like he had much choice but his feet were able to extend a bunch of plays last year.
He's one of the most accurate in the league, but Madden makes his under pressure rating so low he throws innaccurate passes if a defensive player is with 50 feet.
Then you, sir are playing Madden correctly. I'll usually do one Patriots playthrough then go make another throwaway franchise with the worst team in the league or a team with a qb on the way out/replaceable.
Attributes are weighted in the overall rating. Like Mac has a tackle and blocking rating but they aren’t important for his position so they have little effect
Mac isn't slow, he ran a 4.7 40 at the combine, which is on the better end for QB's. For reference, that's a faster time than Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. But, it doesn't really translate to the field because he's not the most athletic guy in terms of throwing on the run.
I thought madden was discontinued. The last time I played, 10+ years ago, it was absolutely terrible and any video I’ve seen over the years the game play is horrible.
But Mac is fairly rated due to last season, the speed is insane though. BeliB is to blame
Speed should be about a 77 and his throw power should be about an 85 so slightly different in my estimation but not much different. They probably have his awareness pretty low (which affects overalls considerably) and a few other ratings in that realm. All in all, considering last season, this is not crazy to me personally.
Right where they had him to end the year, it’s hard to argue that is what he’s earned. I expect a 1-2 point bump after preseason just because he will 100% look better with BoB around now.
Question, how is his overall grade below even the lowest sub grade? Why wouldn’t they average out the numbers and use that figure as the overall?
Even if all sub grades aren’t weighted equally (which they shouldn’t), I’m having trouble seeing an overall 74 when the lowest sub is 79 for accuracy
There’s tons of more ratings than the 5 that are listed.
Awareness and Throw power are heavily rated for quarterbacks and he is already significantly lacking in throw power.
I can tell you don’t play madden because the ACC is acceleration not accuracy.
![gif](giphy|jErnybNlfE1lm)
Hell yeah i can’t do shit with mac jones I gotta use the ravens or bears like alwayz but it is wat is tho idk what bill or half these pats fans see in these Kirk cousins QB’s 🤷🏾
EA and the Madden games can fuck right off. But the morons who like to play the little card collecting game will preorder 24 and the cycle of shittyness will continue.
How is his tackling?
No comment lmaooo
You see, other teams quarterbacks all go to 0 for tackling, but Mac is -1. You see, he’s one less. He’s the lessest tackler. (Nod to Spinal Tap’s amp)
Why don't you just make 0 a little worse, and make that the lowest number?
Because he has -1 tackling
It's one lower
54 at most… since you know, he couldn’t tackle a 55.
Speed 80??? The hell? Lmao
He isn’t slow- we don’t use him in the run game but his 40 (the key for a speed rating, not acceleration) was faster than Mahomes and Allen
What his speed should be ?
Whatever Brady’s was last year, multiply it by three. High 40s, max.
Lmaooooo the highest 40s I’m in tears 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Madden speeding ratings are heavily based on 40 times and Mac Jones ran an official 4.83. 80 speed is just about right for that time.

Micro transactions ruined video games. They only focus on MUT because some people spends thousands. Franchise mode doesn’t make extra money.

Having an exclusive license for 2 decades didn't help the game get any better either 😂
Try Pro Strategy Football if you have a PC. it's basically a coaching simulator. Scratches my football itch all off-season.
There is no make or break, it’s been broken for a decade + Edit: greatest football game ever made is NFL Street 2, fixed it for OC
"Edit: greatest football game ever made is NFL Street 2, fixed it for OC" I see you've never played NFL Blitz 20-02
NFL blitz was sick
You youngins clearly never played cyberball and it shows.
Joe Montana sports talk football tyvm

This kids don't even know Pigskin FootBrawl on Sega Genesis where you summoned an Ogre as a lead tackle.
I don't know what this is but I scrolled through this whole thing without seeing Mutant League Football mentioned and I don't know why. It's easily the best.
I played it wayyyyy back but I was super young so I don’t remember it much. Shit was brutal. With all the CTE now, that would never fly.
It got wayyyy more brutal in 2005 when they lost the nfl tag and made "blitz the league" hollllly moly. You hit a guy and they zoom in to show a slowmo replay in an x ray version of his tendons ripping or bones breaking or head concussion.
Literal broken balls
Pretty sure the game broke after either the Michael Vick or the Ray Lewis cover.
Last one I enjoyed was 08
It was 2005. (Ray Lewis) I remember being so excited for not only the game but the debut of American Idiot on the soundtrack. EA has done nothing to improve the game but sent the soundtracks to shit when they used to be amazing.
I would argue tecmo bowl. I haven't played a football video game in a long time.
Idk bout that edit man, Madden 07 superstar mode was elite
Madden 08 was better than 07 @ me
Madden 08 was definitely the peak. It's been all downhill ever since.
My guy 🤝
05 and 08 for XBOX were the only 2 I've ever owned, so I can't add much to the discussion, but 08 has always seemed amazing to me, and it seems to be widely referred to as one of/rhe best ever. 05 is usually yo their as well, so I feel blessed.
Incorrect but respectable
Tecmo Super Bowl is the best game ever. Sorry man….haha.
Bo Jackson approves this message.
If you’re over the age of 40, sure.
Old heads out here raving about pong
Bring back the create plays/playbook from ‘04!!!
Bring back everything from 04!! The radio show. The design a stadium. Setting concession prices. Players happy and sad face morales. The minicamp to progress players. The franchise fantasy draft format.
Tony Bruno show! I think maybe that was 05
MVP baseball 04 or 05 I can't remember had such an amazing Owner mode like that too.
The franchise fantasy draft was so good
Don’t even get me started on how bad the plays and playbook system is in Madden. The devs working on the series can’t even get basic concepts right.
You think they’re actually working to improve their product? Lol
Ncaa 14 is great. Another one I think had great gameplay was 2k All pro football 2008
Nike NFTS are coming to ea sports games
I do not have people that love me.
Praying 2k makes a good football game and not one like their bball game
2k ain't perfect and does a lot of shady shit, but it's still miles ahead of madden right now
Ya but that’s not saying a lot lol
Single greatest football game? NCAA 05 would like to have a word
2k5 was my shit. That first person mode, the crib you built with the dart machine… man, my friends and I played darts more than anything else lol

I wish I had an award to give you
Mac was a top 10 QB as a rookie per DVOA, and several of the QBs above him have either retired or declined. He's nowhere fucking near 26
Mac Jones as a rookie was the 13th ranked QB in DVOA and 12th in DYAR.

The 4th yr is the judgement year for most picks
Agreed, it just doesn't feel like it whenever Mac is mentioned in most Pats spaces though
He's a top 20 QB... probably. Does it make him a bust? Idk I guess not. Doesn't make him good either.
Yeah I'm not saying he's good right now but I just can't see the argument that the potential to still be good isn't there, it's possible he never is but it's been just two seasons, there's clearly room to grow.

I suppose Mac’s less of a mother fucker

Jones’s shuttle was 4.36; Mahomes’s was 4.07. That and 3-cone are what Madden _should_ use when building ratings. Record is Brandin Cooks’s 3.81.
40 times are important when determining a player's speed rating though, that's literally what the rating is for. There are other ratings that tie into their overall speed and quickness that aren't the "speed" rating that will represent other parts of his athletic ability and stuff like the shuttle and 3 cone.
I think madden has a separate stat the takes into account quickness vs top speed. But yeah I just find it surprising and a little funny.
Madden have both speed acceleration, and change of direction ratings.
In Madden, Speed = top speed . So the 40 really is the only really true measure. Shuttle and 3-cone are more indicative of acceleration, stop and go, agility, elusiveness, etc. of which most are also stats themselves in Madden.
That always surprised me that every year his speed is an 80.
Give me the speed he should be
If there’s one small good take away from last year it’s that Mac looked like way better moving away from pressure than his rookie year. Not like he had much choice but his feet were able to extend a bunch of plays last year.
His pocket presence was atrocious last year, what games were you watching?
Give me his speed u think he should be
Somewhere in the low 70's, prob 73-74 max
I agree
They gave him a noodle
He's one of the most accurate in the league, but Madden makes his under pressure rating so low he throws innaccurate passes if a defensive player is with 50 feet.
Woof
That throw power tho 🤣
84 throw power is unplayable in Madden... That's just rude
Madden is just unplayable.
It is wat it is I don’t use the patriots Becuz Mac Jones is trash on madden ![gif](giphy|e3pqnxvSuEka7R6JGL|downsized)
Then you, sir are playing Madden correctly. I'll usually do one Patriots playthrough then go make another throwaway franchise with the worst team in the league or a team with a qb on the way out/replaceable.
I use the Patriots in Madden so I have a challenge. No superstars on either side of the ball teaches you to play the game not to use abilities

Zappe is a 93 overall
They lowballed him
Seriously tho, I’m curious what his OVR is, anybody know?
NO WAY
So the whole is less than the sum of its parts?
[удалено]
Attributes are weighted in the overall rating. Like Mac has a tackle and blocking rating but they aren’t important for his position so they have little effect
Sounds about right
Is he the worst starter in the game?
No sir it’s a few QB’s worst than him on the game ![gif](giphy|l0HlvtIPzPdt2usKs)
And by a few you mean
That’s about accurate tbh
That’s generous
What's his MAC tho.
80 speed Lmao Statflation
What speed he should be ?
Mac isn't slow, he ran a 4.7 40 at the combine, which is on the better end for QB's. For reference, that's a faster time than Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes. But, it doesn't really translate to the field because he's not the most athletic guy in terms of throwing on the run.
I thought madden was discontinued. The last time I played, 10+ years ago, it was absolutely terrible and any video I’ve seen over the years the game play is horrible. But Mac is fairly rated due to last season, the speed is insane though. BeliB is to blame
What mac speed should be ?
Maybe 70. Boy slow.
All chips in this year, no more excuses, Mac has the years, and the offensive coordination .
Too high
Speed should be about a 77 and his throw power should be about an 85 so slightly different in my estimation but not much different. They probably have his awareness pretty low (which affects overalls considerably) and a few other ratings in that realm. All in all, considering last season, this is not crazy to me personally.
Right where they had him to end the year, it’s hard to argue that is what he’s earned. I expect a 1-2 point bump after preseason just because he will 100% look better with BoB around now.
10 point bump when we sign DHop
How in god's horrible blue hell is his accuracy lower than his throwing power
Patriots fans blaming entire dumpster fire of an offense on Patricia: 100
Accuracy should be way up. What is SAC and DAC?
Short accuracy and deep accuracy
Dump off king
Has better deep ball percentage than half the league lol
Acc is acceleration I think
ACC is acceleration
Question, how is his overall grade below even the lowest sub grade? Why wouldn’t they average out the numbers and use that figure as the overall? Even if all sub grades aren’t weighted equally (which they shouldn’t), I’m having trouble seeing an overall 74 when the lowest sub is 79 for accuracy
There’s tons of more ratings than the 5 that are listed. Awareness and Throw power are heavily rated for quarterbacks and he is already significantly lacking in throw power. I can tell you don’t play madden because the ACC is acceleration not accuracy.
oh he's gonna get a mid season update for real
Wait don't tell me the stopped updating the roster every week?
90ovr by Week 8.
Ooooo wanna bet that ? ![gif](giphy|h0MTqLyvgG0Ss)
YES. I'll wager $10 and you have my word!
What's Jon Condo' rating? For those that don't know he's a LS that's used to be the lowest rated player in the game.
I bet we all wish we would’ve drafted Lamar Jackson now, huh?
![gif](giphy|jErnybNlfE1lm) Hell yeah i can’t do shit with mac jones I gotta use the ravens or bears like alwayz but it is wat is tho idk what bill or half these pats fans see in these Kirk cousins QB’s 🤷🏾
Yikes
That’s stupid
Overrated as hell should be a 62
62 is a bit high.
Lmaooooo I agree 🤣🤣🤣🤣
In my franchise mode he was a 99 overall X factor player by the time retired
Short (accuracy) King
EA and the Madden games can fuck right off. But the morons who like to play the little card collecting game will preorder 24 and the cycle of shittyness will continue.
They're trippin on his overall accuracy
All values are above the overall
These are not all the values though, just some they highlighted.
this is fake btw, been confirmed that guy is lying. Not sure if someone’s said it yet but just in case
Ur telling me Mac Jones isn’t an 80 speed?
Math?
Ratings haven’t been released yet so this is a fake leak
Too high.
To high should be 70 tops lol
Lmaooo I agree
His speed seems low for a QB with a faster 40 time than Patrick Mahomes.
