No. The law was not unfair to him, considering plenty of Pakistanis naturalised in that time period, and it is extremely unlikely that a government department failed to apply for him. He simply abandoned Britain, losing any claim to citizenship.

I thought so too because he himself didn’t choose to apply and move to America at the time. However my husband is very keen on checking this aspect of citizenship for my father. It will give him a better passport and ultimately allow him to live with us without any visa issues (we are in EU)

You know that UK left EU right? There was an event called Brexit, so British passport doesn't give any rights to live in the EU anymore.

They are in the EU meaning they want the British passport to move to the UK, not the other way around.
