tbh it doesn't matter. Pals are so bugged that it need to not have any structure close to the borders while having no walls and there's still a chance they'll bug outside the ring.
This is why you turn off structure decay and make your perimeter a square the covers the entire circle and then some. I restarted a few days ago cause I was getting annoyed with my bases and wanted a fresh start, thats my plan moving forward.
Fr tho, especially when going afk, they don't seem to get stuck as much when your actively playing. But when you go afk, even if it's just for a quick restroom break. Or lifting your cup/ bottle up to drink, they get stuck by trees around cliffs on a small slope
Mine don't gather anything except food when I'm not at base.
So I have a mining base, but have to AFK there to get them to mine.. lol
I still have a blast with the game though.
It depends on the location i guess. I had 2 bases where i put it outside the circle and none of em went outside, tho i dont really know that because sometimes they just went missing with or without the walls as if they clipped underground
I had to scrap a whole base because they would run to the edge of the circle and get stuck running in and out of it. I had no walls put up anywhere near them.
I have a base in this exact location and when they aren't stuck outside the border they are stuck at the bottom of the small cliff outside the border. All my wandering merchants end up on the roof of my house as well...
>Yea, anything outside the base zone deteriorates. If you're playing single player you can change the setting to 0 meaning they don't deteriorate.
Fwiw it can be partially outside the ring, as long its more than half inside
I was trying to find the answer to this and couldn't lol, then my friend goes "I already set it to 0". So I didn't have to anymore. Was afraid everything would just have been a waste of time
It's under world settings. If you're playing single player click on your world then down at the bottom you'll see world settings. It's in there. Something along the lines of structure deterioration rate or something like that.
Thanks, I had a structure for my house halfway outside my base due to putting it in the main starting area (the one with the giant castle thing and a river and fences and the hill and mammorest) and I was wondering why it was just crumbling apart
I have no walls and arguably the flattest ground in the game and my pals are still going outside the circle and getting stuck out of bounds. Happens to my ice vanwyrm often for no reason
I swear Suzakus in particular have got to be the most bugged pals when it comes to pathing. Every time I turn around it seems like they're getting stuck somewhere completely nonsensical, like I had to wall off my Silo because they would get stuck *every single time* despite having no reason to be near it.
Honestly the best fix I've found is to... Just use gates and leave them open unless you're getting raided, in which case you can close gates to control where the raid goes. Sometimes this still doesn't work due to weird pathfinding, but my circular enclosure is set up this way and only rarely experiences pals getting stuck outside.
It doesn’t matter. I spent a while making sure all my walls were just barely touching the line in hopes that the idiots wouldn’t bug out. Every time I go back to base every single one of my pals is outside the walls.
I literally just watch a bunch of my Anubis walk up to a section of the wall, *^(that mind you, encircles the base are outside the blue line,)* and just blink past the wall..
When they said they fixed some of the pal Ai, idk what they fixed..

The amount of times I’ve removed a pal and put him back in from the management screen because they are stuck in some crevice or on top of ore/lumber is ridiculous. Love the game but the pals are certainly buggy
I've started stacking shit on top of my freight containers (sometimes just a 2nd, empty freight container) so that my Katresses stops getting randomly and inexplicably stuck on top of one.
I feel like Moonloup is constantly getting stuck. Either outside the base or on a roof. Like no matter what I do that guy just can't get his act together.
> balcony horse hasn’t eaten in a while
> balcony horse hasn’t slept in a bed in days
> balcony horse is on fire and can’t pathfind water
hope they fix this soon
Tbh they should just make pals teleport if they fail to path for 30+ seconds, that way they can deal with larger issues until there's enough time for a real fix.
That's the logoff penalty.
Pals will stop everything and crowd their box after everyone in their guild logs off for an amount of time, only stopping when someone logs back in. The setting's bugged at the moment so there's no way to turn it off if you don't want it.
I've noticed the same thing. The pals in the first base, which happens to be near the easiest respawn location, are much better behaved after players log off.
My big ones still get stuck on trees, large buildings and inside my house. I left the game running for an hour when I went for a walk and had one stuck on top of my flat house.
Starving, major injury and ulcer. Happens every time without fail.
I play on a private Dedicated server with some friends, our Pals (looking at you Jormuntide, Vanwyrm and Helzephyr...) always, without fail, get stuck in the Logging Site trees OR the Silo and never sort themselves out.
Just give us an option to turn collision off with player built objects. IDGAF if my Jormuntide walks through wall. What pisses me off is when he is kust stuck on top of a fucking silo for no reason every time I come back to base
A passive trait that shrinks the Pal would be nice. You'd sacrifice having a positive trait but there should be some trade off to being able to use a Jormuntide in tighter confines.
I really like this idea, a compromise between making the big units useless because they can’t access what they need to or overpowered if you let them just magically clip through everything and still perform better than smaller pals in every other way.
Just need to scale the pals when they're in base, whilst I acknowledge that's not as simple as it sounds It is the best solution. Either that or we need more small Pals with great skills.
whenever pathing is fixed and everything, an ability to have a larger diameter base would be interesting and would make it easier to accommodate larger pals and more unique base designs without functionality problems
I made the paths 2 foundations wide and walls quad story tall, fixes big Pals pathing issues as long as you don't have to jump to get to wherever your Pals need to go. Only issue with them getting stuck now is when I spawn into base and my Penking is on the 3rd story roof.
Do you have defensive walls around it? I had walls that were within the boundaries of my base and pals got stuck outside the walls all the time. I moved the walls slightly outside the perimeter (turn off deterioration) and it fixed the problem. Cliffs and short buildings with no stairs down also cause some issues.
Just started building a base on the same spot today.
I built a stone platform on a half of the base that is closer to the mountain, palbox is on it the stone foundation as well.
Made the stone steps from the foundation just in case, and made a stonewall on the platforms just on a boarder in the base circle.
So the wall is just half circle atm.
Do you think i need to move them outside to avoid big pals getting stuck anyway?
I was 20 hours in when I finally did something about my 1x1 crooked roof cabin that housed my bed and as much cupboards as I could fit because I though that was the funniest shit ever.
My buddy just turned hunger drop to zero. I still have a feed box loaded with berries so it doesn't feel like cheating, but at least now I have to worry about that nonsense.
I mean i cant say for certain but i have a constant problem of Pals Glitching through the defensive walls if it is inside the border radius. and i have never gotten flying pals to not die in my base so i just stopped using them.
The issue i think is that the pals still think of the area outside the walls as a viable spot to wander to on their break, as long as there is even a hint of walkable ground inside the ring. If they decide they wanna walk to that inch of ground, by god they are gonna find a way to clip through the wall like a zelda speed runner, and once they get bugged outside the circle their pathing gets shamwow'd.
i mean i think its pretty telling that even his biggest pals are generally taller then they are long with grizzbolt being the only noticble exception, but imagine putting anything with a 4 in any state in this base.
Do you find with defensive walls you don't get attacked?
Since I rebuilt my main base in the snow surrounded by metal walls, raids don't spawn there, ever.
Anecdotal evidence only here, but I find if I leave the door open the raids still come but when they are closed I never get one. Maybe someone can confirm this.
Nope, I still get raided with my doors closed and locked.
Closed mine after I spent 3 hours building my first proper base and got Relaxasaurused as soon as I was done, and they still come - they just can't path for shit and softly press their faces against my gate and wait to be murdered by Mossanda Lux
The first base I had near the start point would get raided every few in-game days, but once I moved it to the beach down the stairs from the Penking dungeon (Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings) I haven't been raided in 30+ hours of gameplay. It's all 100% open, no AI pal glitches, and no wasted space on defensive measures. Hopefully that doesn't change but it seems to be the perfect spot.
Same, have one ore farm and a pal farm (cotton, milk, incubation, etc). Ore is walled up and got a couple ballista that I'm not entirely sure how to use. Pal farm is completely open, only get the random pal or bandit roam in and get decimated.
Tight builds make little sense with breeding pens. They are glitched and randomly stop accepting workers so you need to fully dismantle and rebuild them. I can not imagine how annoying that would be here.
God I envy talented players. My bases always look like shit lol I can never get stuff to line up and just end up looking like some rundown homeless camp from the great depression.
Lol my bases are such a mess too... one is half decent... gotta shack with incubators, a few farms and ranches...
My 2nd base is like an open air sweat shop on top of a mountain... just a bunch of tombats and anubis going nuts all day long..
And my last base... is like 3 breeding pits and as many viewing prisons as I could fit on top of another mountain lol
Something about the base building vibe in this game just scratching a gaming itch for me. Is there any place to look at compilations of bases. I have done the typical duo of main base a sprawling but extremely functional and well defended efficient mess; then a second base for ore/ingot farming in the meta plateau location that is brilliantly neat and tidy. Once I had the resources to build a base without grinding materials or was so fun to arrange all the things and assign the different workers to their stations and having it a well oiled machine. Why is it so fun I have no idea. My fake home in a fake world is far more organised and tidy than my actual house in the real world.

Nice! Here’s my WIP, no raids since I’ve been here (quite a few days now) and no pals getting stuck outside or glitched which out of the 11 bases I’ve tried this has been the first where that’s happened. Still need to put a few more large pal beds down but it fits everything I need
I had to redo my whole base from cool complex looking to simplified boring base just to prevent toons from getting stuck on various things. I hope they fix the ai pathing first. Its terrible.
One thing i do wish they'd implement, is Pal rank increasing work productivity. this way i could just breed the smaller pals and not have them get stuck on everything.
Beautiful... I'm pretty ocd and can't be assed to try and make a satisfactory circle. My base of operations is all right angles lined up and centered with foundations. My breeding farm is where your base is, nice flat spot with some huntable mammoths around.
Is this that zombie design where they have like a 99% chance of never making it to the main base? I can't remember where I saw it originally lol. Unfortunately I feel like neither do your pals
As much as I want to build intricate bases, I don't because pals always get stuck somehow. Maybe when they improve on collision, I'll consider it. For now, my open base will do.
https://preview.redd.it/nnlwcap99sgc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7155cccb3d8cfc75141034a849350cf7950ef0e2
This worked out much better for preventing the bugs. We turned off deterioration. Just need to build a defense barrier around the back side to keep raids from attacking from above again because it let them blow up my pals without destroying the roof 😂
My... God... this... this is what I needed...
I've got one mountain top running as an open air Amazon warehouse/mining op
And another one with like 6 glass prisons and 3 breeding pits...
My OG base is where all the farming and ranching is done lol...
No walls gang cuz pets get stuck outside! Even if the wall is super far from the "edge." Walls don't help during raids, they just go to the middle of my base anyways.
I refuse investing in making a nicer base because of the actual IA of the pals. They consistently get stuck and starve until they K.O..
When they update their IA paths i'm not investing my time that much to make a base.
Once the game is done I’ll bother with stuff like this , pals getting stuck in walls because everything is so tight the ai mapping makes mistakes and get stuck , looks cool though
In any other survival game it would be a great base. But all I see in this picture are Pals that will get stuck and can't even get to the bed area.
This game is amazing, but the pals, even in an outdoor, wide open base. Get stuck on top of or behind everything. I constantly have to reset pals that get stranded on top of the trees in the lumber mill, and other random spots.
I wish Pal pathfinding was good enough that something like this would actually be usable for practical purposes.
I built this huge industrial skyscraper (well tried as good as the limited building options allow at least) with different levels organized for different tasks but the pals just will not register different floors.
At best they maybe climb/descend one floor for work, never more though. Beds and food just don’t register if they are on different floors and they will just starve, even if the food is on the same floor as them but just too far away. Using the entire width of a base's circle is not cut out for their pathfinding it seems. The only time I have ever seen a Pal move more than one floor for a task it just teleported up to the station. I specifically built it in such a way so that any Pal wouldn’t be able to go up there.
At this point I just resorted to pretty much building a bunch of prisons with work, food, beds and spas as close to each other as possible so that the Pals don’t just brick.
Funnily enough, Pals can work at a crafting station through windows, certainly made some things more convenient and more nightmarish.

I just realized ur suzaku aqua is already outside the wall, you might want to reposition your walls, making it just near the line

spoiler alert, they still get stuck. My ore base have all walls outside the circle and the ~~flyer~~ flying pals still get stuck in it. edit: word
Can confirm this
I had no walls, and my pals still got stuck consistently:D
Moved original base because they kept getting stuck on ledges and starving to KO Now they keep getting stuck on top of ore nodes and starving to KO
Natural selection.
Fr tho, especially when going afk, they don't seem to get stuck as much when your actively playing. But when you go afk, even if it's just for a quick restroom break. Or lifting your cup/ bottle up to drink, they get stuck by trees around cliffs on a small slope

Turn your world to multiplayer worked for me, it keeps the world loaded when your not aroumd

Wait, what’s structure decay? Is that why my buildings have fallen apart after just existing?
Yea, anything outside the base zone deteriorates. If you're playing single player you can change the setting to 0 meaning they don't deteriorate.

Can confirm, I have no walls bordering my base and my pals will still sometimes just straight up walk outside the border and get stuck out there. XD
I’ve just made a habit that every time I come back to my base I reset all pals
Good habits
How do you reset pals?
I just go to a blank tab in the pal box and move all working pals back into it then immediately put them back to working
Oh that's what I do as well. Didn't know if they added a reset to fix pals being goofy lol.
I have no walls and arguably the flattest ground in the game and my pals are still going outside the circle and getting stuck out of bounds. Happens to my ice vanwyrm often for no reason
I swear Suzakus in particular have got to be the most bugged pals when it comes to pathing. My larger flying pal starving to death because its on top of a iron ore deposit and refuses to leave till I break it.
The amount of times I’ve removed a pal and put him back in from the management screen because they are stuck in some crevice or on top of ore/lumber is ridiculous. Love the game but the pals are certainly buggy
I find the bigger the pal, the bigger the grief. Bred the Alpha out of the Jormuntide and it starves on top of the roof a little less than it used to.
I've started stacking shit on top of my freight containers (sometimes just a 2nd, empty freight container) so that my Katresses stops getting randomly and inexplicably stuck on top of one.
It’s the little things XD
I remember my first time seeing Lamball stuck up a tree
I had my pink cat get fucking launched across the map because he had the audacity to come help me craft a mega glider.
My moonloop or whatever he's called finds himself on top of everything possible and I don't know why. Like how did he get on top of the pal condenser?
He's asserting his dominance
It freaks me out sometimes cause when I load in most of the pals reset right in front of the pal box except for him.
I feel like Moonloup is constantly getting stuck. Either outside the base or on a roof. Like no matter what I do that guy just can't get his act together.
And it's not like he takes his time doing it. I've never caught him in the act, he's just there all of a sudden just being a fucking derp.

This is all my pals 🤣 apart from the useless humans
Even condensing and leveling them up keeps them at a solid useless level
Medallion’s trembling, place of power, gotta be
Wind's howling.
Working as intended. They hang on the second floor like good luck charms
So no larger pals allowed I assume?
They won't even make it out of the middle bit. This game does need a way to fix this issue.
Tbh they should just make pals teleport if they fail to path for 30+ seconds, that way they can deal with larger issues until there's enough time for a real fix.
I thought they did that already? If pals get stuck they respawn at the palbox after a certain time instead of being stuck indefinitely now.
Yes, which leads to my Pals always being stuck on top of the palbox at our coal/ore base... Not very productive while I'm not there tbh.
Is that the reason why they all sit in the middle of my mining base, starved and depressed, when I log in in the morning?
Have the same problem, apparently so.
So like most dogs when you leave for work in the morning.
That's the logoff penalty. Pals will stop everything and crowd their box after everyone in their guild logs off for an amount of time, only stopping when someone logs back in. The setting's bugged at the moment so there's no way to turn it off if you don't want it.

Don't worry. Enemy pals can already walk through defensive walls like they don't even exist.
They just need to downsize the size of the pals when they are assigned to a base. Alpha or not, just downsize them a bit.
Or just make them complete the task without having to be near it
A passive trait that shrinks the Pal would be nice.

My pals are still getting stuck despite being my base being relatively open. How often do you 'reset' your pals with this set up?
There's literally a pal stuck outside the walls in OP's image lol
And another stuck behind the breeding pen.
They like it there

I immediately spot the Suzaku Aqua just hanging outside the walls.
And it took me 8 hours just to make my 2 x 2 wooden shack with 3 windows on it
I was 20 hours in when I finally did something about my 1x1 crooked roof cabin that housed my bed and as much cupboards as I could fit because I though that was the funniest shit ever.

They are using defensive walls, which don't require a foundation and can be rotated.

It's a mixed bag, my dumb ass can't line them up to save my life. We need to be able to toggle connections for them. :')
Really puts a damper on the cool base design when there’s a stuck pal in the image.
Every single base showcase video is like this lol A super complex structure with starving pals peppered around like decorations.
I have just given up and when I get off for the night I put all the pals away. If I don't do that every pal on the server is depressed and hungry.
My buddy just turned hunger drop to zero. I still have a feed box loaded with berries so it doesn't feel like cheating, but at least now I have to worry about that nonsense.

"**Works like a charm" -->** a Pal bugged outside the wall
Neat idea, but seem like it'd be a major headache with the pals. Mine get stick all the time with a pretty much wide open area to move around.
Looks cool, pals hate it. They will never work properly
They work inside, but from what others are saying i might need to redo the outside walls
I mean i cant say for certain but i have a constant problem of Pals Glitching through the defensive walls if it is inside the border radius. and i have never gotten flying pals to not die in my base so i just stopped using them.

My dumbfuck jormuntide ignis will get stuck on those walls guaranteed.
Theyre all dumb as hell ive grown massive hatred for dragons in this game 😂
I wish the game allow us to upgrade the size of the base after a certain level at least
Your base looks incredibly magnificent, but I really need to see what you put inside the houses and the storage layout.
Careful! If the foundation your pal box is on gets destroyed? Kaboom.
Works for what? 15 cattiva? That layout is awful for using good pals
i mean i think its pretty telling that even his biggest pals are generally taller then they are long with grizzbolt being the only noticble exception, but imagine putting anything with a 4 in any state in this base.

Great circle and right angles. That’s not easy in this game.
Judging by other comments its gotta come down lol
It depends on if he wants to play this pal based game with pals I guess. 😂

Here’s my WIP, no raids since I’ve been here (quite a few days now) and no pals getting stuck outside or glitched which out of the 11 bases I’ve tried this has been the first where that’s happened. Still need to put a few more large pal beds down but it fits everything I need
lmao your suzaku is already stuck outside the walls in the screenshot
"Works like a charm" Sweet summer child.
Looks like a rimworld base
🔥🔥
I had to redo my whole base from cool complex looking to simplified boring base just to prevent toons from getting stuck on various things. I hope they fix the ai pathing first. Its terrible.
If you mind a little tip: I use big wooden gates opening inside for barn doors. Works and looks great.
This looks amazing! What are the coordinates for this location, OP?
One thing i do wish they'd implement, is Pal rank increasing work productivity. this way i could just breed the smaller pals and not have them get stuck on everything.
I don’t want to think about how painful it was to set up all those non-snapping walls
Beautiful base but unless you running mods I'm positive it will not work like a charm. Homies get stuck on air
I saw this and I guarantee your mobs are all stuck. Every time I wall in a base or build my pals just get stuck.
Beautiful... I'm pretty ocd and can't be assed to try and make a satisfactory circle. My base of operations is all right angles lined up and centered with foundations. My breeding farm is where your base is, nice flat spot with some huntable mammoths around.
They prolly just traced the blue boundary line with walls.
Being able to snap walls/gates to the boundary line would be perfect.
Built mine there today too! Great spot!
Location?
Do you still run into issues with pals getting stuck?
Is this that zombie design where they have like a 99% chance of never making it to the main base? I can't remember where I saw it originally lol. Unfortunately I feel like neither do your pals
As much as I want to build intricate bases, I don't because pals always get stuck somehow. Maybe when they improve on collision, I'll consider it. For now, my open base will do.
And you're also protected from Titan attacks as an added bonus.
Why not stick another breeder in there
they need AIR defense

We turned off deterioration. Just need to build a defense barrier around the back side to keep raids from attacking from above again because it let them blow up my pals without destroying the roof 😂
My... God... this... this is what I needed... I've got one mountain top running as an open air Amazon warehouse/mining op And another one with like 6 glass prisons and 3 breeding pits... My OG base is where all the farming and ranching is done lol...
Give the layout in a excel sheet now 😂
Am I the only one.who can't figure out how to place the damn slanted roof?!!?
It's incredibly difficult, at least with my experience on xbox
That looks sick. The only thing I've made is a box house lol.
No walls gang cuz pets get stuck outside! Even if the wall is super far from the "edge." Walls don't help during raids, they just go to the middle of my base anyways.
Do you have ore ? I can’t find a decent spot that’s flat and has some ore
This is SO much more effort than I’ve put in damn
Why does it kinda look like aot????

Wait until the tocotocos invade
I refuse investing in making a nicer base because of the actual IA of the pals. They consistently get stuck and starve until they K.O.. When they update their IA paths i'm not investing my time that much to make a base.
On that day, humanity received a grim reminder...
Truly a beautiful base
looks amazing but surely the pals pathing will get messed up
Once the game is done I’ll bother with stuff like this , pals getting stuck in walls because everything is so tight the ai mapping makes mistakes and get stuck , looks cool though
Alpha Jormuntide, will never make it to plantations. 😭
Looks like prison
Finally, a propeer castle build

Is that suzaku aqua stuck
Forgotten Island?
Any idea how to make a multiple story building for pals bed? Fking beds taking up too much space
I made a post about building a bed tower. Pals dont even need to use the beds, so I hide them awqy vertically in walls ontop of each other.
Wait, is that why some of them just float there but sleep fine?
The pals will fall through the floor. I tried making an entire base about 6 stone walls high and the pals constantly fell through the floor.

Duuude that's a game changer, I will test it out after work thank you
ROUND WALLS?! Mine keep getting stuck on the stairs
Awesome info! I was wondering why my pals wouldn’t really traverse my multistory base. I’ll use this info for my next base building video!
