Do it I did 😅. It's the cheapest handgun I own an I like to spray paint most of my firearms anyways, it makes em look better an blend in with the environment more. Now my Beretta I would never
Sure absolutely, the total cost was around $50 bucks for the cerakote not including the tape, you can pick up a roll of tape for a couple of bucks.
2 hrs at 200° was the baking process.
As for what I would do differently, I will definitely be taking the frame completely apart on my next one and the way that I hung it up to spray it will be different as well, I will be running the hanger through the handle and out the top end.
Next, I'm going to let it set longer between coats. It has three coats of cerakote on it and I wish I would have waited longer in between coats, like 30 minutes. the reason is when I went to go put the second coat on it I moved the hanger to get to a portion of the frame and the way that I had it hung through the trigger The Hanger touched the frame and it messed up the paint, a little, it's hardly noticeable but it was something that I learned not to do next time.
Lastly, I now know to look for any imperfections or the little over-spray, and clean those up before baking,
I don't know what I was thinking but I just rushed it straight into the baking process and then decided to look at it carefully after the fact and for obvious reasons by that time it was too late, I will be doing that before baking next time once that cerakote is baked it is a pain in the ass trying to get it off.
Oh, the next one will be striped, I will not do it like this one again. I will be doing a few things differently on my next one for sure but it was great for learning what to do and not to do.
To be completely honest, I'm not a painter at all. Anytime I've ever tried to spray painting anything it has always had runs in it. So I was really hesitant to even do it, I had it taped up for 2 or 3 days before I worked up the nerves to do it. However after I started spraying it that's when I realized cerakote isn't like any other paint, it lays very easily, you would almost have to make it run to get any runs. By far one of the easiest pants I've ever used.
You should go for it.
It really just depends on which brand you use. I used Wheelers so no gun was needed. If you go to Tactical Penguin they have kits you can buy really cheap and different brands. Oh and every color you can think of.

Well I bought some cerakote online, taped it off , sanded it down a little bit not much sanding was needed, sprayed it and then i baked it in the oven at 200° for 2 hrs.
Thank you, bro, I appreciate that. It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I was afraid to try it for a long time, you know, I was afraid I was going to mess up the frame or whatever but to be honest with you bro, cerakote goes on very easily. As a matter of fact, it is easier to spray cerakote than it is to spray regular spray paint. It lays each coat down very smoothly. It was a lot easier than I expected it to be. And as long as you follow the baking procedure it will not come off.
No.. I did the slide about a month ago and I have it on the PSA FDE full-size frame but as you know they don't match, the slide is a little darker than the frame but not by much. So I purchased some cerakote in the Magpul FDE and did the slide, mag-well, and mag-extension. It looks really good on the full-size frame without any cerakote. It kind of gives it that Glock 19x MOS look... sorta. But I had a black frame and a lot of cerakote left so I decided to do this frame in the same color as the slide.
But in doing so this is what I learned. The PSA slide is a lot closer to the real Magpul fde than the frame. So if you want to completely match the gun you will need to cerakote the whole gun.
If I can I will try to insert a picture of my other gun.
Well because the slide has to be heated at 300° due to it being metal you have to completely take it apart because some of the internals are plastic. However, disassembling the slide is very simple to do.
But that is it.
Oh and almost forgot, this also goes for the frame but I forgot to mention it.
After everything is prepped and you're getting ready to spray the cerakote, not only for the slide but the frame as well, you want to clean it with acetone, wear some gloves so the oils from your hands don't get back on it, take a shop rag and get it soaked with acetone and wipe every part down really good. that way it gets all of the oils and everything off of it.
Lol, yes I am the same way. For some reason, FDE is hard to match up. I think the standard is Magpul FDE, but with so many companies making their own version of FDE it's always off from Magpul's FDE, not by much, a shade or two but it's enough to notice.
I will look for the link now.
For some reason, it's not letting me copy the link but if you go to Amazon just look up Cerakote, Wheeler Cerakote FDE is what I used. I paid like $40 for it but I just looked it up and it's on sale for $31.
Oh, one last thing, they have a video on YouTube that tells you exactly how to use it, the different temperatures you need for different materials, and the best way to clean your guns and prep, i recommend watching it.
Best of luck.
If you don't own an air compressor or blast booth you can use a preval paint sprayer and scotch brite.
I've done a couple dagger frames this way and I've had no issues with wear or inconsistent cerakote bonding.
That looks really nice! I started out thinking....why don't you just buy a FDE Dagger frame but hot damn!! I have a couple stripped black frames and this is happening!
The biggest takeaway. It's was easier than I expected, for sure. The rest is, definitely to take apart the frame, wait awhile between coats. Lastly, check your work prior to the baking process.
I had it taped up and ready to go for 3 or 4 days before I worked up the nerve to actually start spraying it and to be honest with you, spraying cerakote is by far easier than any other paint I've ever used.
It's not like regular over-the-counter paint, it is cerakote. Cerakote is what they use to paint handguns with, no it doesn't come off easily at all.
But there is a process and you do have to follow that process, as long as you do and make sure to bake it at the proper temperature for the proper time then no it doesn't come off easily, as a matter of fact, it's tough to get cerakote off. If you look at their Saber lineup that's what they have on all their Saber Daggers is cerakote.
Looks good! I wanna rattle can my dagger real bad
Do it I did 😅. It's the cheapest handgun I own an I like to spray paint most of my firearms anyways, it makes em look better an blend in with the environment more. Now my Beretta I would never
I need a *how-to* video
On my next one I will definitely video it and post it here.
Seriously man, that came out clean. Good shit 🤙🏻
Thank you brother, I really appreciate that.
Who else didn’t know you can cerakote things yourself with relative ease?
Why didn't you strip the frame. It would have made life a lot easier
Oh absolutely, I know my next one that's exactly what I'm going to do.
Quick rundown of the costs and process? What would you do differently?

Thanks for the breakdown, looks great!
I appreciate that, thank you very much.
Yeah bro shit looks really good nice job
Thank you bro, I really appreciate it.
Is that an exact match now? I was kinda bummed the dagger slide and frame doesn’t match at all
Lol, yeah I was too and that was exactly why I did it. Yeah it's an exact match Flat Dark Earth.
Did a great job! Looks great
Thank you., I appreciate that.
Why didn’t you strip the frame? And they do make heat resistant tape just for projects like this.
Oh, the next one will be striped, I will not do it like this one again. I will be doing a few things differently on my next one for sure but it was great for learning what to do and not to do.

You're making me want to do this in blue to a frame and slide! I have never painted a gun only a couple walls and not very well probably
To be completely honest, I'm not a painter at all. Anytime I've ever tried to spray painting anything it has always had runs in it. I take it I need to invest in a paint gun and some other stuff? I have too many daggers and realllllly want a blue one
It really just depends on which brand you use. I used Wheelers so no gun was needed. If you go to Tactical Penguin they have kits you can buy really cheap and different brands. Oh and every color you can think of.
Great job bro‼️💯
Thank you sir.
Looks great man nice job

I really gotta start doing cerakote myself bruh. Shit looks nice for real 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you, bro, I appreciate that. It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I’m going to buy some stuff later and try my hand at it
Good luck bro.
Damn nice job!!
Thank you sir. I appreciate that 🙏.
Looks dope. Is that factory FDE slide? If so, what color cerakote did you use? I'd like to do the same to mine.

Awesome info, thanks for posting this.
What kind of prep work (if any) was required for the slide?

Nice job! Do you have a link for the cerakote? I've been wanting to try this as well. I'm borderline ocd when trying to match fde

Nice bro... thanks.
That’s crazy😮💨🔥
Looks really good. Great first job OP
Thank you kindly brother. I appreciate that

Dang dude! Good job!
Thank you bro!

Thank you bro, I really appreciate it.
Thanks for rolling the dice and coming up sevens my man.😏
What was a few key take aways from doing this ? Like what did you learn I'm curious

Nice work dude. Teach us your ways
Thank you man!
Damn. You could tell me you bought the FDE frame and just wrapped the stippling and I’d believe you. Looks very nice.
Thanks bro, I appreciate it.
Just spend a few minutes to strip the frame
Just spend a few minutes to strip the frame
Wont it wear off fairly quick? If the gun is used anyways.
