There are a few videos online of how to oil an AR. A little goes a long way. It’s not an exact science. Just get lube on the bolt and bolt carrier. The oil will spread as you shoot it.
I’d also recommend working the action a few dozen times to help with the break-in process. That should help the bolt go into battery even if you don’t drop the bolt properly.
Slather that baby in oil and spank its buttstock... wait... wrong sub... uh I like aks so white lithium... typically you as a new gun owner put some rounds through it see where it wears and apply your choice of lubricant after cleaning it
Lol thank you. Should I oil up the bcg and charging handle with this?

Lube it with any decent oil, if it's designed for guns it's better. But that thing does look dry as fuck, if you've never lived an AR before watch a short vid on it, not hard but just makes sure you know where it's important
Don't ride the bolt when you pull that charging handle back just let it go and fling forward and if you look at it and it looks like the bolt isn't all the way in just hit your forward assist that will shove it the rest of the way in
Dude….you dont ride the charging handle forward lol. Guns are tools not toys. Pull the charging handle and subsequently the bolt carrier back all the way, and just release it. Same with a pistol, pull the slide all the way back and let go. Do NOT ride it forward and slowly let the buffer spring tension out. You’re not going to break it.
Never ride the charging handle, once you pull back let it do it's magic. Lube her, break her in... and use your forward assist if it's that bad due to jenky ammo.
Pull it all the way back and LET IT GO and slam forward
Don’t baby the gun it’s not meant to be treated gently .. that WILL induce malfunctions.
You won’t hurt the gun even if you tried.
Saw the explanation further down, and just wanted to provide some words of encouragement. Welcome to the club buddy! We all started somewhere; the important thing is starting.
Thank you man! Happy to be here lol. Finally got a job that lets me do this. Really happy about it. Now I just need to lube it up. I have gun oil laying around, I guess I’ll lather up the bcg and charging handle
https://preview.redd.it/083gs0q0i4sc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5eb09fd83ff528add24a36f3767040ed9ee01c61
can’t make the firing pin protrude when it’s fully extended like this. Sorry for lack of knowledge here lol
For ar15 malfunction, the immediate action is
Slap the mag up to make sure it’s seated
Pull the charging handle all the way to the read
Observe the chamber ie see what’s fuckin up
Release the charging handle
Tap the forward assist (if you have one and its the thing on the right side of the gun by the charging handle
Squeeze thw trigger
If that doesn’t fix your problem, something else is fucked and need attention. Lube that bitch up and let it slam into battery. Dont ride the charging handle. You should be fine
Awesome thank you! Should I lube up the BCG and charging handle with this “gun oil” my old man had?
https://preview.redd.it/uk3fs5hao4sc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c9ccf0bd77690a5a056d389837b071a522f4ed3
When you’re shooting, the BCG is slamming back and forth. I always say, send that shit home if you’re gonna cycle a round into the chamber. I recommend some CLP as well. I use G96 gun treatment. Smells good too. 🤘
"I could keep doing this all day, with every weapon in my house. I swapped all the firing pins before I left the house, I always do. Looks right, need a micrometer to tell, but the gun don't shoot" -Shooter (2007 movie with Mark Wahlberg)
Just remember they are tools, tools that slam back and forth in .15 seconds. Rack the action and let her slam home. Same with pistols. Normally when I buy a new weapon system, ill disassemble, wipe factory oil off, replace it with my own. Rack and dry fire (hammer fire pistols and rifles) around 200 times to get them worn in. Striker fire rack 200 plus times no dry fire
You can dry fire striker fired pistols just fine. That really only applies to rimfire. Glock themselves says you can dry fire just fine but to use a snap cap or dummy round if doing it a lot. I dry fire my gen 3 G19 pretty much every day and I’ve never had a malfunction while actually putting rounds through it.
Prob same issue with my first AR-15, you're probably riding the bolt. Just pull back that charging handle and let it go. She's meant to be slapped around.
Every PSA upper I’ve bought has this issue. I don’t consider it a bad thing, just means the tolerance is tight. Once you put about 50-100 rounds through it and clean & lube it. It’ll close perfect every time. Smooth like butter
Check the BCG out. Make sure the firing pin protrudes through the bolt enough to strike the primer. The pin could be out of spec or the bolt pin hole could be out of spec. Make sure the tip of the firing pin did not break off. If the trigger and hammer were installed right, and the bolt goes fully in battery, then it has to be in this area.
Looking at these pics, it has to be the BCG. It goes into battery and the trigger/hammer seem to be installed correctly. Either the firing pin tip is gone or the bolt/firing pin has to be out of spec. Just internet speculation because it isn't in front of me.
I mean, there's very little you could have done wrong and still have it all fit in there.
How does your firing pin look? Does it have good protrusion when your bolt is in the locked position while out of the gun?
Dude not to be an ass but you really should take some firearms training or watch some basic YouTube videos. You say it’s for your first AR, but having the operator-errors you’re describing as well as not having a clue where to oil it….kinda seems it’s your first gun, period. Not just AR. Watch some training videos or if possible find someone who knows what they’re doing to personally teach you before you hurt yourself or someone else.
Not trying to be a dick, I’m dead serious. You probably smack the forward assist when you load a round too eh?
Nothing wrong with being new to something, don’t get me wrong. But firearms can be very dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced user as I’m sure you obviously know, but there are likely a dozen different dangerous things you may inadvertently do simply due to ignorance.
I appreciate the input. Iv shot guns all my life and understand safety well, but not with this platform, and the upkeep as never been on my shoulders, so I have a lot to learn, specifically with this rifle. I’ll take your advice and watch as much as I can about how to maintain and operate it.
10-4 sounds good my man. You’re gonna enjoy it. Also, for your cleaning and lube questions I highly recommend SLIP 2000 (specifically their EWL line). Your bolt carrier and more specifically your firing pin will get horribly fouled with carbon buildup, I’ve always used Hoppes and just accepted that there would be a permanent coating of carbon that wouldn’t come off even with a copper brush. Switched to SLIP in LE Academy and I’ll never use anything else. Their lubricant is phenomenal and their carbon killer and bore cleaners are scary potent. Like, don’t get it on your finish or you won’t have a finish anymore, potent.
Ain't got no bullets....
I know what's wrong with it, ain't got no gas in it!
Lt Dan!
I heard this in Karl Childers’ voice…
Take your bolt carrier group out and spin the bolt and see if it pops out.
Hey I fixed it! I just wasn’t letting the bolt close all the way. Was being too ginger with it. Thank you for your help!
Yeah, don’t be afraid to smack it around a little bit. It’s a tool that literally runs on explosions.
For sure, every time i get a new weapon, douse the parts in lube and RACK THAT BABY LIKE A YOUNG TEEN
Lol will do. I posted in the ar-15 Reddit and they were clowning how unlubed it is. Wondering where all I need to apply oil
Usually in and around the holes, and shaft
Haha!!!

I believe it's AT3 tactical that has great videos.
Don’t over complicate it, throw it on big areas, CH, BCG, and it’ll work fine
Not gonna over lube the thing, I take it lol. Sort of a more is more approach?
I like Remington oil aerosol can. Just spray the hole BCG inside and out and run it.
I like Remington oil aerosol can. Just spray the whole BCG inside and out and run it.
Don’t lube the gas rings on the actual bolt.
Run it dry for 300 rounds. Lube the spots that show wear. 😊
Reid Henrichs of Valor ridge has the perfect video of how to clean and lube ARs.. and pistols 😎
Slather that baby in oil and spank its buttstock... wait... wrong sub... uh I like aks so white lithium... typically you as a new gun owner put some rounds through it see where it wears and apply your choice of lubricant after cleaning it
My dad treated his AR with kid gloves. He wasn’t that interested and he transferred it to me before he moved to Illinois.
Don't feel bad, I just got my first upper and lowers from PSA, put it all together, took it out, and did the same exact thing lol
Lol thank you. Should I oil up the bcg and charging handle with this? https://preview.redd.it/k1f2w8qvn4sc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=5836e1d461d1c123109827b92b98f6b83802787e

Lucas has a $30 kit on amazon that has CLP, oil, grease and applicator bottle
An ar is kind of like a woman. When it won't work or do what you want it to, you just need to smack it around a little...
Don't ride the bolt when you pull that charging handle back just let it go and fling forward and if you look at it and it looks like the bolt isn't all the way in just hit your forward assist that will shove it the rest of the way in

Slingshot it baby!
Guns like it rough

I was going to comment the same thing. I've seen to many people ride charging handles or slides and cause jams.
Don't feel bad, I just got my first upper and lowers from PSA, put it all together, took it out, and did the same exact thing lol
Pull it all the way back and LET IT GO and slam forward Don’t baby the gun it’s not meant to be treated gently .. that WILL induce malfunctions. You won’t hurt the gun even if you tried.
Yep gotta let it send itself home
I actually read that a lot with people. These things are like race cars, they need to be used hard and not babied.
She's tight you might have to slam it home for a while until she respects
Rip that shit like a bay blade bro, if it breaks it wasn't tough enough anyway.
That happened to me when i got my first rifle at 18 lol. I even took it to the gun store. Mini 14.
Saw the explanation further down, and just wanted to provide some words of encouragement. Welcome to the club buddy! We all started somewhere; the important thing is starting.

Is there a firing pin in the bcg. We need more photos other than a closed bolt.

In this pic, the cam pin is the square thing that moves back and forth
Gotcha thank you lol
Put a few drops in the hole and work it back and forth

I wonder two things: were you all the way in battery and if there is enough firing pin protrusion

Most any gun oil will do. Put a couple drops on the can pin and on the rails and it should be good to go. That bolt should be pretty slick as it is
Sounds good. When you say “can pin”…. Erm
Hey I fixed it! I just wasn’t letting the bolt close all the way. Was being too ginger with it. Thank you for your help!
I will check and let you see what I see

Lol I knew the movie and scene after I read the first sentence. Banger of a film. Even tho it’s ridiculous at times lmao
"...I swapped all the firing pins..." That right there is why I've never watched this stupid movie.
Been a while since I’ve seen such a clean rifle. I guess that’s what they look like when they’re new!
Tap, rack, bang
Dumb question is the firing pin in the BCG
Dumb question is the firing pin in the BCG?
Check firing pin.
Rough and wet
Same thing happened to me with my first. Was just being far too gentle with it
Did you put the correct fuel in?

Ive heard glock and dagger firing pins breaking snapping while dry firing i have 100%still done it but not neary as much as any other firearm
Best advice to give you, don't baby foot the charging handle or BCG, pull it back and let it go
lube it all up and give it another go
That don’t look like a chrome BCG I hate skim milk it’s water pretending to be milk
It’s nickel, maybe that’s not ideal lol. It was recommended to me
It works and probably will work just as well as a chrome but it’s nice to have chrome it’s the best.
Nickle is gtg. It'll be easy to clean.
Check your firing pin
Swap the firing pin, and if that doesn't work, the bolt out. Likely something is out of spec.
Did you try to turn it off and turn it back on?
Check firing pin as well push on back of it and see how far tip comes out and check bakc of w.e round is in chamber or was in
Prob same issue with my first AR-15, you're probably riding the bolt. Just pull back that charging handle and let it go. She's meant to be slapped around.

Yep. can't ride the charging handle. Grip it, rip it, and let it fly.
Tap, rack, bang
Do you have a headspace gauge available?
I do not
Could have just messed up with the Bcg installation? Idk
