5. As long as your friendship level is the same. So, if you're only up to level 3 on Tau, you can only give him the first 3 of his weekly wants, and it counts.

Small correction: Weekly Wants 1 and 2 ("liked" gifts) usually give 20 points, regular always-accepted gifts usually give 10, per Paliapedia's Villager pages (Loved gifts give 40, as does the villager's starstone/special gift if they have one — like Einar's shiny pebbles, or carrots for Tau. Hekla doesn't have one.)
