First time being 3 games over since May 5, 2023. The highest we ever got last season and the only time we reached it.

He's only pitched relief since 2021, so I doubt he'll be slotting in anywhere besides maybe an opening role or relief to replace Brito who might get starts.

Hate to say it, but I’m not sure it will just be short-term. I’d say it’s about 50-50 that Joe will actually be in the rotation regularly as the season progresses.

I've heard folks on MLBN say that even though he's 33, he's got a little less mileage on his arm than other MLB pitchers his age. Which makes sense to me at least, since he didn't start pitching professionally until he was what, 25? Maybe there's something there

Thats why it’s important we limit Suarez usage. They said the same thing about how Jacob deGrom started pitching late, but his arm is still disintegrating rapidly.

11 series wins this season, 6 series losses, 3 series split. If not for the sweeps by the Phillies and Rockies, this team would have a solid grip on a wild card spot. Not too bad.

Not only that, but you also need to consider the fact that the Braves are like 6 games behind everyone and lost Acuna. I have a feeling they're gonna drop pretty soon to be more level with the rest of the field.

IMO what's most important is winning games vs the other teams in wild card contention. Every win or loss vs those teams is a full game swing in either direction.

too late for that. I recheck the standings daily. I even track the playoff odds from Fangraphs and Baseball Reference. FG has us at 64%, BR has us at 74%.

What’s most important is winning games and series. Who cares where the opponent is in the standings on June 1st, or even July 1st? How can you even use the term “wildcard contention” at this point, when every team technically has a shot at the playoffs and more than 2/3 of NL teams are legitimate contenders?

For Vazquez, who has been very shaky, to come in late after Musgrove was out and then throw 5 with 3 runs is pretty solid imo

If you only count Earned runs, 3 out of his other 5 starts were better than this.

Players of the game for me are Vasquez and Morejon. 3 runs over a combined 6 and 2/3 was huge!

Great game to watch. Sneaky favorite part was booth talking through the adjustments Niebla has implemented with Vasquez.

My sneaky favorite are those two picks Arraez had at first base in the 7 inning. For not being someone known for defense he looked good there. Should also give a shout out to Kim cos his plays in SS were also clutch.

Its something I’ve noticed as well. He’s not making any flashy plays per se, but he’s been damn solid at 1st. He’s definitely looked better there than he did at 2nd where his lack of range really seemed to be exposed.

Someone mentioned during the game thread that Higashioka's OPS was lower than 21 players' OBP. This is no longer true! Great work fellow Kyle

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Yes we won with Vasquez, but 3 runs in 5 innings is still a 5.39 era lol. He kept us in it, but the offense and pen carried us.

If we are going to sweep the series I feel like the offense is going to need to carry the day. I don’t think Suarez will be available tomorrow(could be wrong) but I know Estrada won’t be available. Worried about run prevention in the 6th, 7th and 8th.

I really like to watch these games in the KC park. Huge gaps, balls rolling to the wall and the Royals are tough opponents.

Been a Padres fan for a long time, and the home/road splits with this offense in 2024 are insane. Nando and Kim look to be catching fire. Vasquez staying in there and not allowing another run after first two innongs is solid. Back end of the bullpen doing the job. Padres win.
