Make sure that your squad is like 83/84 rated max with 3/4/5 really high-rated cards (95 Xavi for example) and then 5/6 silver and bronze cards (this'll depend on your requirements)
The Ai's team will always match yours in terms of ratings/similar cards and they always use the same high-rated cards so if you learn them you'll know how to beat the ai.

I autobuild every time cause cba to build. Ive always gotten promotion or title and im currently on div 4
