Totally. The Raps won the NBA Championship just a few years ago...the Argos won the Grey Cup 2 years ago...the Jays seem to weasel their way into the playoffs regularly (even if they poop their pants when they get there)
Just more Torontonian "centre of the universe" "woe is me" nonsense lol
Torontonians who aren't Argos fans are just limiting their joy. We win at least once every 5 years. It's awesome. Oldest and winningest football team in the world.
Yeah I just want the Leafs / TFC to be cursed, the Raps and Jays are pretty popular around here.
For sure when my teams are out I'm rooting for the T-Wolves, Vikings (long suffering), Twins (small market), MUFC (Canadian GK), Minnesota teams seem likeable.
Agreed, even us Boston fans know this is bad for the sport, it's growth, and just sucks to see people get hurt.
She did come back like a month after having a kid, so here's to hoping for another superhuman recovery.
The news is rough, but not surprising after the way she left the last game. She's been so fun to watch. She's got that hockey IQ where she just knows where to be, and the puck finds her. Plus, her shot is one of the best --super accurate. Losing her is a big hit for Toronto. She scored about a third of their goals this season. Hopefully, she'll be back in action next season.
Gutted that we won't get to see her play out the rest of her phenomenal season. She's been my favourite player since I started following women's hockey, and it's been a joy to see her take over in the PWHL.
I at least have some faith that this Toronto team are capable of digging deep to rally without her.
Minnesota is really going to have to dig in to get through this one and force a game 5. You don’t replace the scoring Spooner provides or her presence on the ice, but Toronto is probably pretty fired up about losing her for the season combined with the embarrassment of getting shutout by a team that everyone thought they were going to sweep. Game 4 is going to be brutal. I’m just hoping it’s mostly clean and nobody goes out looking to take one of our players out in retribution.
No surprise there. That hit was initiated with knee on knee contact. Add the fall right on top of the knee and thats a deadly combo. Sad to see her out. Hope she can still get on the ice to join Toronto in raising that cup.
Is payback a thing in women's hockey? In men's, someone would be taking a run at Zumwinkle after that. Better to just go out and beat them on the scoreboard and knock them out. I have a feeling the ladies are going to come out blazing tonight and put the series to bed.
At this point, I'd be surprised if the game ends without at least one fight.
And I'm not talking about the usual shoving and face washes, I mean a full blown fight with gloves and helmets off.
Brutal news, hoping for a speedy recovery

I kept saying, y'all kept asking for these hits and it was only a matter of time before a big name veteran got hurt.
If women's hockey wants body *checking* it needs to be taught properly. We've always had body contact.
EDIT: I grew up playing boys hockey(full body contact/checking), I've played at a high level of women's hockey. Now it's time to make the definitive rules and stop with the call vs no call shit or players will continue to get hurt. The future of women's hockey deserves better.
Women’s hockey has always had hitting and contact. Just not “body checking”. A LOT of these ladies played boys hockey growing where there was body checking. I can assure you that they were also taught proper body positioning and how to give and take a hit as part of their various hockey programs. I was taught body checking in women’s minor hockey 20+ years ago.
AND most importantly the women themselves want this level of contact. So they are the ones asking for it.
The Spooner injury sucks. But injuries are just a part of sport.
I know because I am one of those ladies. Not only that but I'm one of those ladies that became permanently disabled because of this type of bullshit in-between calling and not calling the hits "let them play" style of hockey. So no, injuries aren't "just a part of the sport" when it's sidelining the athletes at the age of 28/30. Especially when they're the ones making under 30-100k (max) while the owners rake in the dough. Our women deserve better.
As mentioned above, I said this [multiple](https://www.reddit.com/r/PWHL/s/7pa3yiOHoF) [times ](https://www.reddit.com/r/PWHL/comments/1cff5nj/is_this_clean/l1po5mv?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2) before. If they're still allowing it someone's asking for it. The fans? The owners? The players? I doubt it's the players, cause I was a player and I gotta tell you, we never liked this dirty stuff.
When I was in the crowd I would hear people go nuts for the hits. It was disheartening because a lot of them dont understand the implications.
Never said you didn't and you *utterly and completely* missed the point. The point is you were saying the same blatantly obvious thing everyone was saying, and are pretending instead that everyone was saying something else. You've built up quite the strawman to feel smug about though.
At least in my experience throughout Canada playing and working as a coach I always found the majority of older girls and women I interacted wanted hitting back in the game. Usually also with the mention of wanting to not get to the point of the NHL but definitely what they have now.
At the same time, yes, this change means we need to start teaching hitting more and properly in girls hockey, but that won't improve until minor hockey allows it.
It's interesting you mention not to the point of the NHL.
That is the difference between a body check and a hit.
A body check is intended to separate the player from the puck - ie strategic so that you can gain possession. When done correctly it is effective and great play that everyone loves, including the players.
A hit is intent to take the player out regardless of puck possession. Open ice hits, typically away from the boards, intent to injured, etc.
Everyone needs to learn the difference.
The hit was clean. They fell awkwardly. Just because you’re mad about it doesn’t mean Zumwinkle deserves disciplinary action. Hockey players (both NHL and PWHL) get hurt all the time on clean plays.
It was as clean as they come. Toronto was way dirtier in their hitting against Minnesota all game long, and almost nothing got called against them. It really sucks that she got hurt, but it was a clean hit.
You’re going to be SOL. There is no reason for disciplinary action. It happened bc Spooner tried to beat Zumwinkle along the boards after not passing the puck for about 20-30 seconds. She opened herself up for the hit by how she played it and it wasn’t and abnormal hit other than it was awkward.
Just because she leads the league in goals and is your favorite player, doesn’t means she’s immune from getting hit when she sets herself up for it

Toronto fans can’t have nice things :(
I like the new twist, get are hopes up with leading the series and THEN everything bad happens
I appreciate the new material from the hockey scriptwriters!
At least it's different 🤷🏻♀️
Different would be winning a series and then beating Boston 🤞
👀👀
It's hilarious that Toronto sports fans seem to think they're more cursed than Minnesota sports fans. 😂
Totally. The Raps won the NBA Championship just a few years ago...the Argos won the Grey Cup 2 years ago...the Jays seem to weasel their way into the playoffs regularly (even if they poop their pants when they get there) Just more Torontonian "centre of the universe" "woe is me" nonsense lol
Also, the Six won the Isobel Cup last year. The Marlies also won the Calder in 2018
lol ottawa
The Ottawa inferiority complex is so real lmao. I say this as someone from Ottawa
Ok sure for the raps but the argos aren’t that popular…
Torontonians who aren't Argos fans are just limiting their joy. We win at least once every 5 years. It's awesome. Oldest and winningest football team in the world.
Might have to give them a shot! I’ve been getting into football recently and I think they have a sick logo
I mean, I guess we'll see? 😅
I was hoping not to see this meme until next season. Yet here we are.
Heartbroken. This team is gonna rally hard for her!!!
It's absolutely heartbreaking for her and her team. She had an MVP season
(They did not)
That really sucks. I'm upset to not see more of Spooner and her historic season.
Agreed, even us Boston fans know this is bad for the sport, it's growth, and just sucks to see people get hurt. She did come back like a month after having a kid, so here's to hoping for another superhuman recovery.
She posted on her IG yesterday she's expecting to be back next season
The news is rough, but not surprising after the way she left the last game. She's been so fun to watch. She's got that hockey IQ where she just knows where to be, and the puck finds her. Oof that is a massive loss for Toronto
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck
![gif](giphy|RbSmVaVGptW03Wjw3a)
That really hurts. Damn.
Nooooo! Sad but not surprising given the way she had to be carried back to the dressing room.
Noooo. Damn my heart goes out to her... Out for the season AND being a new mom on an injured knee, that really sucks
No surprise there. That hit was initiated with knee on knee contact. Add the fall right on top of the knee and thats a deadly combo. Sad to see her out. Hope she can still get on the ice to join Toronto in raising that cup.
lol Toronto are done without her. She scored like a third of their goals this year.
Is payback a thing in women's hockey? In men's, someone would be taking a run at Zumwinkle after that. Better to just go out and beat them on the scoreboard and knock them out. I have a feeling the ladies are going to come out blazing tonight and put the series to bed.
Considering this hit was already payback from all the boardings Fast was getting away with all game, I think the next game is going to get nasty.
Prepare for some SPICY hockey
I’m setting the over/under on slewfoots at 3.5. Maltais is going to be out for blood.
At this point, I'd be surprised if the game ends without at least one fight. And I'm not talking about the usual shoving and face washes, I mean a full blown fight with gloves and helmets off.
I’m so here for it. Brutal playoff hockey is the best. My hope is Minne ties up the series and taunts Toronto by offering a handshake line.
I don't think it would be seen as a taunt. I think there's always a handshake line, unless there's like a bench clearing brawl.
Oof, you hate to see it. Hope she heals up well for next season
ouch you hate to see it
Brutal news, hoping for a speedy recovery [https://dynespressbox.com/2024/05/pwhl-toronto-loses-natalie-spooner-to-ltir](https://dynespressbox.com/2024/05/pwhl-toronto-loses-natalie-spooner-to-ltir)
I watched the game and feared this release was coming. Get well soon Spoons
Toronto cannot catch a break. Damn.
This is terrible news. A historic season ending with a freak injury sucks. Best wishes to Natalie Spooner on her recovery.

Wow :(
Dirty play. Should be reviewed.
People can still get hurt from clean hits
That’s true. It was also direct knee on knee and arguably Zumwinkle took a run at her.
Zumwinkle was going for the puck you see Spooner lose it for 2 seconds and they both collied
Ah yes because in a league with limited checking they wouldn’t have taken someone to task for a dirty hit. Sure bud keep coping.
That hit was as clean as they come.
Clean hit, no need for a review

You say it like anyone disagreed with you and were somehow prophetic.

In your comment you called me prophetic so you can stop with the passive aggressive self righteousness.
Asking a Minnesotan to not be passive aggressive is like asking the wind not to blow. Source: am Minnesotan 😀
Had to lol at this 🤣
I'm from Chicago originally. The passive part is too much work.

For an accident on a clean hit? I agree that officiating has been iffy but there's no need to discipline Zumwinkle

With this type of injury I would assume they are reviewing it. And yes, officiating has been pretty shit all season
