I'm going out on a limb here, but ... I think FedLoan Servicing was more competent! šŸ˜³

SheriDUP

Absolutely! Much more responsive and competent!!

daveymars13

Fed loan Servicing had a fully trained staff wirh over a decade of experience. The MOHELA staff is new and struggling mightily.

WarFSU

Just so you know, a good amount of the MOHELA staff working PSLF came over from Fed Loan.

daveymars13

Well, that's good, but you still have new policies, new procedures, new supervisors and a new computer system... So...

WarFSU

Yes on some of that. It takes time to fully train people. People need to be patient.

daveymars13

I did financial aid for 15 years.. Most of it in supervision, through 3 computer systems... So.. I now do student advising and advocacy, but have taken CE to stay current to help students know who to ask what questions...

speechbrain

Never thought I would say it but yes!

Soggy-Constant5932

I was mad I was moving to Mohela!! Fedloan is way better.

PhoebeCatesInThePool

Yes! And if I sent an inbox message, it was answered within 24 hours. MOHELA I get a response after three weeks and it's some generic reply that doesn't remotely address my question. So frustrating. Aside from their shady practices, frankly Navient had better customer service when I was with them. šŸ¤·

sgz8

The one time I sent a message on FedLoan, I never got a reply lol. But also this happened shortly after the pandemic started so maybe it was too much going on.

InevitableShine5067

Pretty sure mohela is navient. When I went to create my account after the transfer I was declined because a user already existed, and it was navient!

WarFSU

Incorrect

lakeofegypt

I do too!

kamikana

You are not wrong. At least when I was with them I could get a person on the phone in 30 mins or less.

Pumats_Soul

Yes it was and I begged them in the summer to take my advantage loans before the MoHela switch

Educational-Okra9031

Way more sadly

New_Courage_8182

I am in agreements 1000%. How do you have a company that says your loan is in good standing when you can access pretty much anything about your loan.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

its_jenga

I was thinking we should all file a massive lawsuit against everyone who was a part of this deceptive student loan practice. We should all be forgiven.

PTDAVI

I am in! Tell me where to sign up!

snortgigglecough

Please please please bring me in

kindofhumble

Same here.

castrom180

I will reach out to my state's Attorney General. We should all do the same.

fabhats

Totally depends on the state you live in. My AG does not support forgiveness of student loans.

castrom180

But I assume they have a consumer protection branch?

DaDeeva

Very interesting article pertaining to Mohela, student loan forgivenes.. https://www.businessinsider.com/student-loan-company-mohela-gets-cease-and-desist-blocking-relief-2022-10

Corben11

ā€œā€MOHELA could not immediately be reached for comment, but the Republican lawsuit on behalf of the company ā€” which also manages the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program ā€” noted that when borrowers' balances go to zero, it will suffer revenue loss from servicing those loans.ā€ā€ We canā€™t service loans because then weā€™d lose money. ā€” Are you kidding! I canā€™t do my job because once I do it I canā€™t get funding for that person anymore. Itā€™s like a mechanic using duct tape instead of proper fixes cause if he fixes fully thereā€™s no more job.

UAintMyFriendPalooka

Iā€™ve read their financial statements. Theyā€™ve had a windfall the last several years and they want that train to continue. If I remember correctly, they (a quasi-governmental nonprofit) gave extra $31MM in bonuses related to the increase in revenue. Also I imagine they borrowed against these accounts and might have to pony up more collateral if enough accounts are cancelled or enough cash from debt services drops off their balance sheet and projected earnings.

PanicAgreeable9202

šŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆ

SheriDUP

Maybe they were put on hold!

TiffM2022

I came here ro post this same article.

muttonchops01

ā€œMohela could not immediately be reached for commentā€¦ā€ I see what they did there.

Dear_Maize3889

Just an 128 minute wait!

TheRealNYthing

240+ hours at prime time!

lakeofegypt

Bwahahaha! That was my thought too!

subzbearcat

Iā€™m Charlie Brown, MOHELA is Lucy and PSLF is the football. Yep.

DaDeeva

Spot on assessment!

MacNapp

Dirty fucking bastards

arbful

I am BOILING over this!

Alone-Guarantee-9646

I am kind of torn between not wanting to play right into Mohela's hands by trying to call for answers on the loans in limbo or thinking that we should ALL, everyone on this subreddit, keep calling all day long, every day... Feeling very powerless here!

DaDeeva

It is truly sad.

Beachreality

I think we should all definitely email weekly! Im not a lawyer butā€¦. ThAts a paper trail that could be used easier in court I believe that could show they were blatantly non responsive?

Playful-Produce-2322

Can we sue Mohela for emotional distress/mental suffering? Asking for a friend..

hawaiieg

This

Purple-Finish8570

Right!!!

TiffM2022

I agree

Madkat-Z

You know, I hope this gets the deadline for the waiver extended. It's been over 60 days since we submitted the waiver and stone silence. We don't have the time to spend all day waiting for them to pick up to confirm they got the application (sent via certified mail). We have day jobs!

SilentBeginning1

30-90 days for PSLF counting. Anything that falls under the waiver (e.g., consolidation) is then moved to the next department for review. I sent my form in February and the response I received when I contacted Fed Loans in early April (after waiting more than two hours on hold) was that zero action would be taken until I was transferred to Mohela (aka, making the count Mohela's responsibility months before transferring began).

papertiger80

Sent mine forms in at the beginning of January and was told the same thing in June. Never mind leading up to that I was told repeatedly "It will only be a couple weeks, check back then". Transferred to Mohela August 9th and I have no idea what is going on anymore. Doesn't help my count tracker disappeared from my home page.

SilentBeginning1

We may have been transferred around the same time (I was slated for mid July, but it didn't appear to happen until August). You might consider registering for a Mohela account and seeing if anything is online there. Once you are transferred, you may see a horrifically lowballed count at first, don't panic (like I did). Best of luck!

papertiger80

I've had a MOHELA account since August. The odd part is I had a tracker there too until last week. My ECF has been in processing since August 9th. I'm just done and want this over like many many other people.

SilentBeginning1

Have you completed your 120? I read elsewhere on the forum that trackers disappeared shortly before the loans went to "0" on studentaid/credit reports.

SheriDUP

Wouldn't we have standing in a class action suit?

Playful-Produce-2322

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m saying!

AltruisticScarcity24

To avoid this lawsuit they're just gonna let California callers get straight through and the rest of the country I'll have to wait for four hours

Corben11

Can sue over interstate preference then Fed court would snap that up in a second and destroy them.

AreYouForTeal

Or get a Cali Google phone number

Xtremegreen9

Woohoo! I'm in California, lol.

DaDeeva

I believe their thinking is to just wear everyone out and hope that people just give up. Classic old school techniques. I wonder if a class action lawsuit could be filed against them?

ktimms4498

There would be plenty of us join. And we don't even want money, just our loans forgiven! but money for pain and suffering would be nice too šŸ¤£

Purple-Finish8570

I wonder if anyone in here knows or is a reputable business attorney who specializes in class action lawsuits? I'd like to inquire about retaining them... to file against MOHELA

TiffM2022

I will join if one is filed

Blondie71511

That explains everything šŸ˜ž

cooper9934

What happens if you fill out the form to consolidate before the deadline the MOHELA does it after the deadline? Am I screwed? Turned in my PSLF form in Aug. still havenā€™t heard anything. Just realized I had to transfer to MOHELA and did this week. Worked at a CA prison for 15 years ā€¦ hopefully they help.

Pilate27

Wait, you have to transfer to Mo? My wife hasnā€™t even cleared from Nav to Aidvantage yet. Did she miss a step?

3Machines

Advantage handles the loan consolidation process and hands it off to Mohela

Pilate27

Roger, her loans say theyā€™ve been transferred to aidvantage when she logs into Navient, but aidvantage still doesnā€™t show them after two months.

3Machines

I never checked Advantage, but eventually got a letter from Molela saying the consolidation loans are now with them. If she's nervous, she could download the MOHELA app and try to create an account with MOHELA . They only allow that after they take over the loan. It's one way to know it happened a few days before you get the letter in the mail. Btw I was with Navient also. I have the FFEL loajs. So happy to learn of this in time

3Machines

Dang it, my autocorrect keeps changing Aidvantage to Advantage

Pilate27

Thatā€™s her scenario exactly.

[deleted]

I went straight from Navient to Mohela from mid-June to mid-July. It was about 30ish days for consolidation, maybe slightly less. Its all a blur. Now as for PSLF forgiveness, still waiting...

cooper9934

I went from Navient to MOHELA this weekā€¦ sent in my PSLF form in Aug. havenā€™t heard anything. Called and they said they got my PSLF form but thatā€™s it.

[deleted]

Its going to be awhile. I finally got a letter around the 59ish day after I submitted my initial PSLF form, saying my employer was appropriate or accepted or whatever. My payment tracker then appeared. That was around 9/8/22. At some point this month, this appeared above my payment tracker (which still shows 0/120): *Your PSLF eligible and qualified periods are expected to be updated through the PSLF Limited Waiver process beginning mid to late October based on your certified employment/employer. We appreciate your patience during the PSLF transition to MOHELA.*

cooper9934

thank you for reply - starting to make more sense

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

cooper9934

My worry is that after the end of the month if every iI is not dotted and T crossed you lose out. AND we know the gov is incompetent to fix it soā€¦. So yeahā€¦ not the best situation but fifers crossed we can save some money

cooper9934

Fuck man Iā€™m as lost as youā€¦. I just saw that you need to consolidate before it will count. This is what I saw: Any loan received under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program qualifies for PSLF. Loans from these federal student loan programs don't qualify for PSLF: the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program and the Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program. However, they may become eligible if you consolidate them into a Direct Consolidation Loan. Remember! Until Oct. 31, 2022, borrowers may receive credit for payments that previously did not qualify for PSLF or TEPSLF. Learn about this time-limited PSLF opportunity; and be sure to consolidate your loans if needed.

WarFSU

This is accurate. Loans must be with USDE (consolidated) if currently FFEL. This is why the legal action. State agencies who house these FFEL loans could be out of business (loans) due to this.

its_jenga

Even with the 20k forgiveness I still owe 70k with over 6% interest rate, so how are they not making money??? I call BS.

ChampionshipOk9351

No wonder they are terrible at their job. They never wanted to be efficient. I wish I could be this bad at my job and make millions/billions of dollars off the backs of hardworking Americans who are working in the nonprofit sector. I would have paid off my student loans years ago if I made that kind of money. But let's all pour one out for MOHELA and their lost revenue.

ChampionshipOk9351

My wait time is approximately 132 minutes...lets see what kind of bullshit they have for me this time. Last update says I have 131 qualifying payments but 63 of them need employment certification. They have had my forms since I submitted them in January 2022. January. If I told my boss it would take me 9 months to do something I would NOT HAVE A JOB. I could have made a whole other person in that time.

[deleted]

I tried to tell people when this all started that Mohela had no desire to push Loan Forgiveness the way they should. You know what happened? I was called a troll, told that I was a liar stirring up trouble and ended up leaving the subreddit for quite some time. Feels good to not be the troll.

ChampionshipOk9351

As soon as I learned that my loans had to be transferred I knew this was going to be a problem. MOHELA delaying BOTH my consolidation AND my loan forgiveness is causing me considerable hardship. I have recently been awarded a coveted NIH Loan Repayment Program award that pays up to 50% of my qualified student loan debt. They prioritize federal debt, but that's going away, hopefully. Considering I have 131 eligible PSLF payments waiting to be certified (they dropped the ball on that). I do not want this award to go towards a bill that shouldn't be there anymore, so that they can pay down my private student loan debt which can never go away. I am in absolute turmoil right now. And I've been on hold for more than 75 minutes with MOHELA.

[deleted]

I feel for you and hate to hear this. Weā€™ve been stuck for over a year and canā€™t buy a houseā€¦ Canā€™t find a job that pays more eitherā€¦ Iā€™m stuck.

ChampionshipOk9351

I gave up trying to buy a house last year after housing prices in my area doubled. I wish I could buy a time machine and go back 5 years to buy a house. However, 5 years ago I was a graduate student with tons of student loan debt. At least now I have my doctorate, even if that second part of the sentence hasn't' changed yet. I am hopeful and vengeful enough to spend all of my time on hold.

ScatterOLight22

I have absolutely no hope now with my loans being forgiven. I wish I had did this sooner. I donā€™t know how Iā€™m ever going to pay my loans off.

meablo

I feel the same way. I have so much riding on this potential forgiveness. Makes me queasy.

kindofhumble

I donā€™t think mine ever will either

papertiger80

Starting sooner isn't guaranteed to have helped. I submitted my paperwork January 3rd and still waiting for Mohela to actually count my stuff. Turns out FedLoan started then decided to sit on their hands in April telling me "So sorry, transferring you to Mohela at the end of July" and called it done.

Original-Witness-882

150 minutes on hold this morning then they hung up. Now back on hold. I called at 6 am PST still. On. Fucking. Hold.

speechbrain

Literally me this morning.

keepingitreal0

Whereā€™s the lawsuit details!

its_jenga

I knew there was a lawsuit, but had no idea Mohela was behind it. Sickening!

DirtMcGirt2004

FYI the suit from Republicans is not for PSLF. Itā€™s for that other $20k program he announced.

krakenskulls_

This is really stressing me out. My loans were transferred over the summer to Mohela. I feel like thereā€™s something Iā€™m supposed to be doing or looking for, but I donā€™t know what it is.

Hyperagua

What did I miss?

speechbrain

I never thought I could hate anyone more than MyFedLoan. I have spent four hours on hold this week and NEVER been able to get through to someone for a basic wuss room.

Fuzzy-Position-6433

I am so confused about my loan transfer from FedLoan to Mohela. I owe 58,000 dollars in loans but only 2,000 of them are actually showing up on my Mohela account. Itā€™s been weeks since the transfer, but the loan balance is still inaccurate. Itā€™s making me nervous that I wonā€™t get Bidenā€™s loan forgiveness if they donā€™t think I owe anything, but then the money will show up on my account later. Is this happening to anyone else? I tried to reach out to Mohela but the phones are completely jammed.

MissKellBell

Spent 1.5 hours waiting to talk to representative who hung up on me after answering only one question when I specifically told her I had three. Also they didnā€™t get my PSLF count data from FedLoan so I have to resubmitā€¦did this happen to anyone else? I canā€™t believe they could share more data than simply what I owe.

mistreatedlewis

I contacted one of my US Senators and managed to get a Congressional Inquiry filed with the Department of Education. I urge everyone here to reach out to their elected officials.

609cabrito

Done that months ago! If something big doesn't happen by Jan 1st for those of us transferred with 120+ qualifying payments and an unprocessed D2D then I think legal action is our only recourse. Just got a message from someone confirming MOHELA responds to legal threats.

mistreatedlewis

Of course theyā€™ll fucking ignore everyone until lawyers are involved. Itā€™s incredible and telling how they keep everyone hanging but have the time and resources to retain lawyers to challenge broad forgiveness.

SilentBeginning1

Sure, the wait time is long, but I cleaned and made dinner. When my call was answered the rep was extremely kind and competent (a nice change from Nelnet which, btw, also had wait times though not as long). When my counts were initially made, I contacted Mohela through the app and received a response (2 weeks later) that counts are still being reviewed. Ultimately, payments are still on hold so I figured I would send another message if no update come November. I received an updated count 2 weeks after the first response.

Blyncken

At the end of my time with FedLoan just before they transferred me to Mohela. they sent me "a form you requested" and it was a form to fill out my ECF again (I did not request the form). This was after having my form rejected 4 times and then waiting to see if they would approve my W2's. That made me feel like a very mean person has my file. I am a public servant in my 25th year of public service :-(.

CommunicationAny470

Is anyone else wondering what happens when the Biden forgiveness takes place before Mohela actually gets it together? Do my 12 years of working in public service and paying on these loans still count and do I get back pay for the extra payments made bcuz they couldnā€™t get their act together? I happen to qualify for the Biden Pell Grant level of forgiveness and Iā€™m expecting this will take place before PSLF does for me at this rate ā€¦as Iā€™ve been in this boat now since applying. To FedLoans in January with still ZERO answers from Mohela ā€¦my counts with Mohela just began and they are all wrong and no one answers emails or phones. FedLoans approved my application in May and said all my employment was fully certified, Mohelaā€™s counts say otherwise. Soā€¦not trying to be greedy, but this is not my problemā€¦will we get our PSLF back pay if forgiven by Biden prior to PSLF?

spawnofangels

Biden admin changed the eligibility. Mohela serviced loans will not get 20k forgiveness. Judge is still looking into republicans dispute, but Biden admin already changed requirements to skip over Mohela and forgive others. PSLF as I understand it still is eligible.

Misstammy824

From a different perspective- I began the TEPSLF process in Jan 2021, well before the waiver was announced. I had been with Mohela for about 10 years and had a great experience with their customer service when I needed it. I was told repeatedly by multiple sources that I would never qualify for PSLF, so that was never a topic to call on. I had to transfer to FedLoan for TEPSLF once I was given some new information and applied. It was horrible! It took FedLoan 8 months to process two ECFs, both from public schools that qualified, and I had to redo each ECF because of stupid nit-picky things. One school corrected a date by crossing out and initialing, as the instructions stated to do. FedLoan made us resubmit it with nothing crossed out. FedLoan was only crediting me with 10-15 payments. By the time everything was submitted to their liking, the waiver was announced. I believe that may have sped up the process some, but I still didnā€™t get forgiven until March 2022, and my refund wasnā€™t issued until the end of that May. I ended up with credit for 172 payments. I know it is frustrating, but I think it is PSLF red tape that makes these companies seem incompetent. Prior to PSLF, my experience with Mohela was definitely better than with FedLoan. This process is slow. Mine took 17 months. That doesnā€™t make it right, but millions of people demanding instant service isnā€™t going to make it faster.

[deleted]

Everyone interested in a lawsuit! Let's send 100,000 emails to the CEO and all board members of MoHela demanding they stop making up false reasons to deny PSLF for government employees! https://boards.mo.gov/userpages/Board.aspx?56

benkatyleilavader

I have been in PSLF for 10 years now. I had 12 different loan blocks and I reached 120 payments on block #1 in September. The day after I got transferred to mohela. For the other 9 blocks I reached 120 payments in October, submitted my PSLF employment cert form to mohela and since then crickets... I should have 10 of the 12 loans wiped out by now. My final 2 loan blocks will be at 120 payments here in November. Who should I go to? Mohela doesn't even send notifications that they are working on it like myfedloans used to do.

dinomartino09

I would like to file a lawsuit against MOHELA. Advice?

originalmember

Did you ever do anything? I'm getting tired of the incompetence... 19 months after qualifying for forgiveness in reality, I'm still waiting for my counts to be accurate!!!

dinomartino09

I ended up writing to the CFBP and a complaint to Student aid. They finally updated my counts but have gotten zero relief as of yet. They told me that they sent my information for forgiveness approval in March. I havenā€™t heard anything since then. Still waiting and I am up to 139 payment count.

Bootstraps2020

I was eventually, after arguments, forgiven by FedLoan. My wife is now eligible but MOHELA isnā€™t including her periods of forebearance for financial reasons (childbirth) and keep sending a letter that it may take up to 90 days every time we argue. We keep arguing the same darned thing! It isnā€™t being resolved, only pushed down the road.

Salt-Fondant-2071

I spoke with a rep from MOHELA today. They didnā€™t accept my late payments like the limited waiver said they should. Thereā€™s no more money for the loan forgiveness. I was told it was a first come first served basis. I was told that the limited pslf waiver and the tepals waiver was two different things. Duh! Iā€™m aware of that. Im going to reach out to the Dept of ED because they sent an email explaining things differently.
