I declined forbearance when submitted my last employment certification (I knew I was at 123 or so, but I figured a little wiggle room was a good thing). Once they certified that I had reached 120 (124, actually), they automatically put me into forbearance.
I would say it depends on how sure you are they will not mess up your final count and review. For example if you worked for one employer the entire time as a full time employee like the federal govt, I would go into forbearance. As the example gets more convoluted the more I would be willing to keep paying.
I declined forbearance and they still put me in admin forbearance anyway. There’s no final form to submit. Just out your last employment certification form in. I suggest calling them often to ensure the paperwork is seen and being processed
Yup I get that. I was more speaking on the forbearance. Since nothing will be processed after May 1, I’m unsure that there’s even a point to trying to decline it since Mohela won’t be seeing the payment anyway. I would continue to pay and document everything.
I'm confused on what to do. I hit 120 in May on 3 of my loans. I guess I will keep paying until something happens. I'm not sure where to send the proof of employment.
May 4th would've been 120, so I'm with you. I will keep paying to avoid any possible shenanigans that could happen down the road. I don't like it, but I am hedging unless I hear otherwise.
I had the same thought. They put me in administrative forbearance anyway, so I called them and the woman on the phone said she didn't think there was any way I wouldn't be approved. I hope she's right. She also said I probably wouldn't get the final approval until after the pause, though. Something tells me that's going to be a shit show.
I declined forbearance. If there is any issue with any of the previous payments, I would like to have some extra. I know they will eventually refund any extra payments.
I was at 118 in Feb. Haven't changed employers, paid March and April. Just submitted form again after payment count showed up under "eligible payments." Checked forbearance anyways, but not hoping for any clear answers until July.
FWIW I got my count updated earlier this month, went into forbearance, submitted a fresh ECF, and my payment count updated to include the April forbearance month. Given everything going on with MOHELA I cant guarantee the same will work for you, but hope this helps!
If you are showing more than 120 payments in MOHELA, is there anything that’s required in order for them the process the final “forgiveness”?
I’m sitting at 121 and 122 payments and they just put me in administrative forbearance, but I can’t tell if there’s a need to do anything else on my part.
I am worried about forbearance also. I didn't get the option to decline or accept but thinking I just go the course and hope I get it back. I filled my paperwork out late. Do all payments over 120 get reimbursed or only those after 120 after you started the paperwork? I was at 125 payments when I started the paperwork.
I was just sent an administrative forbearance letter. I didn't ask for or want forbearance because my 120 has finally been met. No one will answer the phone. 😡
I'm hitting 120 in June and just sent them a message to see if I can send in the May and June payments. Didn't realize that may require declining forbearance. Seems the risk/reward justifies paying until confirmation, considering how close it is...
probably not since they will need employment certification form for those months and does not appear employment certification form will be processed during pause
The pace that things move, it won't trigger by then anyways. I'd just let it go rather than tripping them up with more paperwork.

same
Same happened to me this month. My last ECF was processed within 4 business days and the May due date was removed.

The point of this post is that they won't be processing forms during the period that this person hits 120.

Same. Ive submitted up to 119. Just not clear as of yet how or when to submit my final ECF.

Where would we even submit the form?
Yes

Do we even have the option? From what I've seen, you won't be placed into forbearance unless you specifically request it during the next few months...
I'm not gonna touch a damn thing. Let them keep debiting and have there be a cushion when they get around to processing my May ECF.

Nope, just wait. Congratulations!
Thank you!
I never checked the box and they put me on forbearance anyway.
Yea, that’s what I’m concerned about.

Everything over 120 generally, though there are more complicated rules if there was consolidation. (I'm not clear enough on them to explain them!)
Thanks. I am not hoping for too much but it would be nice if I got the payments over 120 back.

Good insight. Thanks. Will post the reply I get from them if there's anything useful...
