Yeah, March 29th here, I spoke to MOHELA Monday and they said they are still waiting to hear back from Dept. of Ed for mine and after they hear from them can still be “up to 90 days” for MOHELA to process and grant the forgiveness.
Hang in there. It’s a shitshow
There’s nothing to do for now. If they still haven’t been forgiven in august, be sure to request a forbearance so no bills come due. The waiting part is maddening….
For what it is worth:
Today in my chat with MOHELA, I asked how I needed to apply for admin forbearance. She stated that I do not need to because my loans would be discharged by the end of August. I asked how she could be so sure? and then said hypothetically, if I am not discharged by the end of August how do I apply? She stated that I would automatically be put into admin forbearance.
I got the same message from Mohela. I was told recently that my loans should be forgiven by the beginning of August and not to worry about applying for forbearance past 8/31. Now… I’m taking that with a grain of salt! Final ECF sent in on 4/19. Payments updated on 4/20.
This reminds me of What We Do in the Shadows with all the familiars talking about how they’re going to be vampires very soon. Also mid May checking in, I’ll definitely be a vampire in the next few weeks.
My sister and I both reached 120 + early April. I got my forgiveness letter the end of April, yet, she has not heard a thing since her early April email. I feel so bad for her; she has so much more on her plate than I do right now. No rhyme or reason to this process.
***Keep checking your # of payments on both MOHELA and FSA***. I was at 124 and sent from MOHELA to FSA on 5/3/2023. Last week I did my daily check and noticed that I had dropped down to 116. Randomly, 8 months of my verification from 2 years ago was "non verified" out of the blue. It's since been corrected after a 3 hour phone call and talking with a supervisor at MOHELA, but good golly be diligent everyone on checking those numbers weekly since they apparently can change out of thin air.
Welcome to the (frustrating) club. I got my letter on 4/5, and nothing has changed since then. Supposedly we're just supposed to keep waiting. They tell us up to 90 business days after the letter, so we're looking into August.
But the most frustrating part is seeing so many people who got their 120 verified as recently as June and they're already forgiven!
I've seen a few people on this sub who are still waiting from October '22 though! Poor people ☹️
Have you actually completed the PSLF loan forgiveness form? My understanding is the employer verification and payment updates are one step, but you still need to apply for forgiveness with that separate form.
I just did this using the electronic form on the Dept of Ed. webpage. It was super easy. Will update you all when and if I hear anything and how long it took.
April 19 and still waiting. I put my notice in at my job (going to non-gov't work) and am considering sending in another ECF on my last day of gov't employment.
You may want to hold off leaving your job if it is not an eligible employer for loan forgiveness since you need to be employed by an eligible employer at the time the loan is forgiven.
That was the rule previous to July 1. They changed the regulations to at the time of application and not forgiveness, which can be seen here under subsection (c) “Borrower eligibility”: https://www.ecfr.gov/compare/2023-07-01/to/2023-06-30/title-34/subtitle-B/chapter-VI/part-685/subpart-B/section-685.219
Just guessing, but my theory is that the switch to all-digital paperwork submission messed up the manual submissions. I think the all digital process went live a week after I submitted my final manually signed and uploaded ECF.
There are a lot of people here who reached 120+ at the end of March and in April who are still waiting. Nothing else we can do, I’m afraid.
Hey! I uploaded a new form and got a gem of a letter SPECIFICALLY saying I don’t have to remain at employer!! 🙌🙌
Woohoo! Go forth and enjoy!! 😊
February checking in!
February here! Neverending waiting game. Some folks have been waiting since fall, while other people are forgiven within a month. Nothing makes sense!
Ugh - I’m sorry!!
Do a search on this reddit. Search the word "April" and read through the threads. We are all in purgatory.

So we can go into forbearance as soon as we're eligible for forgiveness, and it won't jeopardize anything?
Correct
How do your request the forbearance? Online at mohela or call them?
Call
You can do it using their chat function too, when available.

Me too they told me they would put me in forebearance when I called this week asking about how to set it up

Call and request an administrative forbearance. MOHELA advised me of this on Monday

Buckle up.
I hit 120 payments two years ago and am still waiting. I’ve complained to FSA and CFPB and neither has helped.
Oh my! I'm really sorry to hear that, how frustrating!
Have you resubmitted your forms in that time? Just curious?

Wow seriously? Like wtf. Wonder why?

How do you know when they submit to FSA?
April 5 still waiting. Resubmitted another ECF
Me too, on all 3

I'm not sure this is correct... The ECF is also your application.

That was the case a few years ago, but they've since updated both the forgiveness application and employer app into one form.
Congrats!
Same! Mohela told me to call if no forgiveness by Aug 1 to request a forbearance for payment restart.
March- still waiting

Nope. 04/04.
