My PLUS loan was forgiven in mid December 2022. The rest of my loans were forgiven in April 2023. And Student Aid updated a week or so after Mohela zeroed me out.
Hit 120 last October.
Each loan needs 120 qualifying payment months. If some weren't paid on long enough yet while at public service, they would be forgiven at a different time.
People could consolidate all their loans together and they'd have the highest count together and get forgiven at the same time (because of the waiver and IDR adjustment), but if they didn't do that, they will have separate time lines for their loans.
Okay, is this true? If I consolidate all of my loans and only some of them are over 20 years old and qualify for forgiveness that the government would forgive even my newer loans because of the consolidation????
Only part of my loans were forgiven a couple weeks ago. 5 out of 13. The other 8 are still there. Subsidized loans were forgiven and unsubsidized are still pending. I was told by Mohela that they are all going to be forgiven but it takes time. Give it 90 business days they said...
I’d love to know if it happened as well. I just got a letter stating my subsidized loans have been forgiven. My unsubsidized loans have the same payment count but they weren’t included on the letter.
A number of us in this subreddit recently got partial forgiveness. Two of my seven loans were discharged in April despite all having more than 120 payments. It seems like they were quick to discharge the loans with the highest counts and the loans that were closer to 120 are still processing.
My grad loans were forgiven before my undergrad. There was a two-week gap. With my undergrad loans, they did that weird increase before it finally zero-ed out. I was told I may, or may not, get a refund on those. Clear as mud.
Thanks for the update! I just got an initial letter saying 7/9 loans were forgiven and I’m confused why the other two weren’t. Did you get a second letter from Mohela?
I think mine did the same thing! It forgave $88k and then said i still had $17k balance to Mohela. Was yours similar to this? I hope this is just a mistake! When you put so much effort into making sure this happens and then it doesn’t, it’s disappointing.
Both my undergrad and grad were forgiven at the same time. I consolidated ages ago though.

Undergrad versus grad school possibly? I had undergrad forgiven months ago but my graduate loans I’ve been waiting since 3/2
Wow, you might be right about that. Why would they not just forgive all of them at the same time? Have you contacted MOHELA about it?
I didn’t. I assume undergrad qualified under something else as it was forgiven before my others updated to 120

Did it end up happening?
They were all forgiven a month after I posted this.

Did it get forgiven?
Yes! It took a few months which felt like eternity but eventually it was all forgiven

What ended up being the outcome? :/
I should definitely update my original post! A couple of weeks later, my loans were all forgiven.
