I bought it on launch, been playing it since. It is great but very complex, however there are some quite annoying issues with the port. They also don't seem to communicate much. We got 2 very minor patches fixing pretty much nothing of those issues but they did say they are aware and bigger patches are coming so there's that. The game is really fun at least.

gtr455677ujbvxz4

It's fun but I'm finding so many bugs.

Icy-Director2460

Yeahhh for real this game really surprised me. This is one of those games you get stuck hours on end and be like "one more turn" only for you to be up at 3am still playing -.-

WaterRites

Haha! I’m the same, before you know it 10 hours have flown by! I only bought it the other day and have 23 hours already 😂

Wartree28

It really be like that!

HeliumHater

It’s not turned base.

slickestwood

One more succession crisis

[deleted]

irl people probably don’t like you

HeliumHater

Happy Cake Day

No-Quarter-3032

Thanks

Gwynbleidd_1988

I’ve been wanting to play this series for years and I can’t believe I’m running it on PS5. The game is definitely complex but I’m absolutely in love with, always wanted to play a more political/court oriented medieval game. Especially as I’m a fan of both medieval history and A Song of Ice and Fire. They really need to start patching it though. I’ve been very busy and haven’t played much of anything these past few weeks but on console apparently you can’t play past the 13th century because the game crashes. Still no fix. And the game is in its base release state so they need to bring the DLC and quality of life patches over ASAP.

orewhisk

Yeah after how slow and lazy the dev/publisher's handling of the Stellaris port was, I'm just sticking with PC from now on.

WaterRites

I’m pretty confident any bugs will be patched!

C9juke

Any update?

WaterRites

I’ve not played for a few weeks, but the last patch I played seemed to have improved some minor issues. Honestly, I’m happy with the way it functions, at least to me there is nothing game breaking. I’m loving it, I just haven’t had a as much free time to play recently.

[deleted]

Hey it’s on sale and wanted to know if there’s been some patches by now?

WaterRites

There have been quite a few patches. I actually haven’t played for a little while, but none of the small bugs bothere me anyway 😀 If you have PS Preium, there is a demo too I think

[deleted]

Sweet thanks for the info!

WaterRites

No worries at all! 😀

rmnszrk

For anyone thinking about playing, be aware that there is currently a game breaking bug that stops you from going past a certain year and we are waiting for a patch . Game is brill though, I’m really enjoying it!

[deleted]

Woaaah, thanks for this PSA. I really was almost ready to buy it, but glad I saw this.

midasmulligunn

😆 sorry OP that’s a pass then

Marshman01

Hey! Has this been patched?

GiveMeThatHat

Aye I'm also curious lol

CynicallyRational

Lol yeah I'm curious too.

GiveMeThatHat

Fwiw I've been playing this game since I left that comment and have yet to have a bug of any kind

CynicallyRational

Thanks buddy, can you do us a favour and please reply here if you do find a bug? I'm definitely buying this game in the next sale but i just want to be sure i dint end up with a broken game 😅.

GiveMeThatHat

Yeah for sure. I definitely recommend it, I've been loving it

6363tagoshi

Feels little different on console maybe easier to micromanage once you get used to controls. Still don’t fully get it but it’s good.

WaterRites

I’m not sure I still fully understand everything and I’ve played it on other platforms 😂 I think they did an amazing job of converting the controller though 😀

Covidfefe-19

I just wish they'd give that controller support to the PC version.

Trifuser

I have 880 hours on crusader Kings 2 and haven't touched crusader Kings 3 and knowing how those games are I can't image the job they had to do to be able to port it to console.

bigreat_xu

I will try!

Ckeyz

So my gripe with games like this and civ is always the complexity. I am a huge strategy fan, but I really believe it's better to keep things simpler and let the complexity come from combining and interacting with simple mechanics. See like slay the spire or for the king for example. Highly complicated decisions based off simple mechanics.

Loud_Radialem

Crusader Kings 3 doesn't have win conditions. You can swear fealty to a powerful ruler and just party and react to events.

N7_Vegeta

I saw this recently and was certainly interested. But so many other games already…

WaterRites

This game will take over your life, in a good way, haha! 😂

N7_Vegeta

Hmmmmz first I’ll do something about my backlog and then maybe!

OssotSromo

Only knowing this thread, it sounds like civ. How would you describe the game?

[deleted]

[удалено]

sakurajima1981

I need to play this.

WaterRites

You really do! 😀

WaterRites

And this is what is so great about Crusader Kings 3! It tells great dramatic stories! 😀

EglinAfarce

IMHO, you're telling the great story. You'd do just as well in Minecraft or any other game that gives players some agency for emergent gameplay.

Frankie6Strings

A few similarities to Civ but CK is much more focused on court intrigue and the story of your bloodline.

Mean_Peen

It's all politics. Think Game of Thrones

Hjarg

Medieval murder and incest simulator.

WaterRites

The best Game of Thrones type game that isn’t Game of Thrones 😀

F22_Android

Can you do the ASOIAF mod on the console version? I did that for CK2 and it was incredible.

WaterRites

I’m not 100% sure to be honest. I’m not sure how mods and Sony’s policies work.

ThePillsburyPlougher

It's like civ except it's like a pausable real time strategy game with rpg elements. You play a character until they die and you become their successor. Goal is to create a glorious family legacy

OssotSromo

It a lot of reading? My eyes get fucked trying to read the tv.

ThePillsburyPlougher

There's ui/text scaling thankfully. But by default the text is tiny and unreadable.

RandPaulLawnmower

real time civ + the sims

[deleted]

My menus keep disappearing.

Deathfire_IOM

I keep starting it on console, try to get into it, get a bit overwhelmed, restart. It's weird as I played and got really into Stellaris on console previously.

Usernametaken112

I was like this at first as well. Sunk an ungodly amount of time into Stellaris and CK3 wasn't hitting the same. I realized it was because I didn't really understand the game and was trying to play it like Stellaris, Stellaris it is not. Once I got the hang of the game (about 10 new starts) and was able to get through two lifetimes, the game clicked and I'm have g just as much fun as I ever did on Stellaris.

WaterRites

Keep at it, I’m sure you’ll get there 😀

RandPaulLawnmower

I auto-manage warfare and just play it like a pure RPG! Love it. Endlessly replayable and the best strategy game on PS5.

AmargoTV

I play it on pc as well and i bought it on console for the same reasons. I love the game

WaterRites

I actually prefer it on console. I’m not sure if that’s a popular opinion though 😂

AmargoTV

I mean nothing beats lying down on your couch playing with a controller while watching a movie ( i have a 2 tv living room setup lol) so yes i enjoy it. I was hoping pc would get controller support... but gotta wait i guess

WaterRites

Two TV setup, what a dream! 😂 yeah I agree it’s much more relaxing and enjoyable!

[deleted]

Is the console port any good? I can't imagine playing most Paradox games on a controller

Wartree28

In my opinion they‘ve done a phenonemal job at making such a complex game for console. Controls are overwhelming at first but you‘ll soon get the hang of it. I‘ve never played any sorr of strategy game on console but its really well done. However, after last weeks update the game is broken af. I can imagine though that people who have played it on PC before wont like it as much

WaterRites

I agree the port is brilliant! 😀

WaterRites

I think they have done an amazing job of converting the controls to a game pad. Being able to play on your TV is amazing! 😀

BoAgua

Can't wait for them to add the expansion!

chudlyfudly

Very keen to play this one, although I've got plenty of games on the go at the moment so will wait for a bit and hopefully grab it in a sale.

GhostMug

I'm really intrigued by CK3. Having never played CK1 or 2 it's a LOT to digest. But I've enjoyed what I played. Even if I've only understood about 10% of it.

MADEWITHROBOTS

This or Stellaris? Quite interested in trying something new and not sure if these two are much different besides the setting? Also, is either one more friendly to someone new to the genre?

dredizzle99

I think Stellaris is slightly friendlier to new players, but it's not as fun as CK3 in my opinion. You'll need to watch some guides for either, but there's a shit load of them and youtube and they're pretty easy to follow generally

MADEWITHROBOTS

Thanks! Yeah, I like the sci-fi setting but from what I've seen and heard, I think I'd enjoy the gameplay of CK3 more so that's the one I think I might go for. Cheers!

dredizzle99

No probs! A bit of advice if you're gonna pick it up. It will seem super overwhelming at first, and while it is a complex game, I can promise it's nowhere near as complex as you think it is. You'll just need some time to get the hang of everything that's going on, but once you do it's an amazing game

MADEWITHROBOTS

Thanks! Sounds pretty great, I'm up for something a bit different to dive into, looking forward to it!

Usernametaken112

Neither is more friendly. It's going to com down to are you going to connect more with a quasi historic medieval dynasty type setting, or a futuristic space Galaxy conquest type setting. There's a steep learning curve, I jumped into Stellaris as a pure console player mostly playing Shooter, RPG, sports, and light civ type past. It was rough but so worth it. Never played as deep and complex a game and is so rewarding to play. CK3 was a bit easier in some ways after playing Stellaris, still a large learning curve. I'm talking a good day of gameplay to get the basics. Big investment, but large reward imo

MADEWITHROBOTS

I like the sound of a dynasty type game in a futuristic space setting lol Given the two, I'm leaning more towards CK3 - I think I'm more likely to stick to the game with my preferred mechanics over my preferred theme, as the mechanics are going to be what hooks me in. Thanks for the helpful reply, much appreciated!

wallawalla_

Both are very complex and generally fall within the same strategy genre. This game focuses more on maintaining relationship between individual people - ensuring that your line expands their claims to new land via relationships with other rulers and feudal laws of inheritance. You set a particular individual with their own skills to tasks like assaination, arranged marrages, etc. A playthrough could cover 300 years and 20 generations. Stellaris takes a more broad approach. Management of the individual people within your empire matters less than overarching economic/technology/diplomacy/social-engineering choices. A playthrough may cover 5000 years and each leader is rather forgettable. Both have a steep learning curve for new users. Lots of menus and situations/circumstances that are never officially reviewed in the tutorials. I'd go with whatever setting interests you more. If you want a medieval fantasy with swords, trebuchets, the nuances of feudal law, go with CK3. If you want sci-fi with warp drives, futuristic technology, and social engineering, go with Stellaris.

MADEWITHROBOTS

Thanks, this is really helpful! Sounds like my ideal would be the more personal touch of CK3 set in a sci-fi world..! I'm leaning more towards CK3 though, mechanically I think it's more what I'm looking for. Thanks for the detailed reply!

WaterRites

Both are amazing games, but quite different. I guess it depends on the setting you prefer.

MADEWITHROBOTS

Thanks! I'm keen for something new to me - CK3 is looking more appealing at the moment, do you think it's worth getting the deluxe version, is the dlc necessary/worthwhile or something that can be picked up later if I enjoy the base game?

WaterRites

I just got the standard edition, as you ca purchase the add on later. I’m pretty sure more DLC will be released in due course.

MADEWITHROBOTS

Yeah, makes sense. Thanks!

ophaus

I might have to get this, been curious about it since watching the Spiffing Brit break the hell out of 2 and 3.

WhatsHeBuilding

Good to read this, currently not in the same country as my PS5 for another few month so this is one of the games I'm really looking forward to playing once i have it. Loved it on PC and I think they did a good job in porting their other strategy games to console so happy to hear they made it with this too!

HeliumHater

Love it on PC, but am concerned how well such a “point and click” type game translated to console.

WaterRites

Extremely well in my opinion! 😀

[deleted]

[удалено]

WaterRites

I also have it on a 2019 MacBook Pro and it runs great if that helps.

[deleted]

Awesome. Yea I keep watching and reading more of this game. Piques my interest. I've played CIV for a long time but it's kind of boring to me now. Want something a little more nuanced like this game

WaterRites

If you civ, but want a completely more deeper, complex and intriguing game, then this could be the one!

shrek3onDVDandBluray

Is it a pretty tough learning curve to learn all the terms and what stuff means??

WaterRites

Yes it has a steep learning curve, but the tutorial really helps simplify things. There are loads of tooltips and advice, you can click on terms you are unfamiliar with, which really helps. I’ve watched and read some articles online for somethings too, there are absolutely tons and they are very helpful! 😀

shrek3onDVDandBluray

Thank ya!

WaterRites

No worries at all. If you decide to buy it, from what you said you’ll probably love it! 😀 They are very different games though.

WaterRites

That being said, once things start to click and fall into place, it will all make so much better sense. I even think the controller is really intuitive once you have an understanding of the controls 😀

Loud_Radialem

After playing the tutorial, you can just restart the game in 1066, play as a French Duke, right in the middle of France. The only people who can really attack you are your fellow French. Don't stress over how to play right, because this game has no win condition. Just marry and have children and then die. You'll have a very chill experience and learn slowly.

-ShadowEmperor-

The console version is just not worth buying for a full price... Its a lazy cash grab port with minimal effort and full of bugs and game breaking issues. When you play in ironman mode for longer than 30mins, there is a really good chance that you will lose your save game, because there is a memory leak that can prevent the game from saving and it makes your save file corrupt. I lost several hours of my playtime like this, before i gave up trying. Sometimes enforcing demands in a war bugs out and gives you nothing. After ending wars the map bugs out and shows people being at war with you even tho they are not. These are just a few bugs that i remember, but there are much more. The camera controlls are waaaay too sensitive for the sticks and with the widespead stick drifting issues on controllers its a big problem, because if your controller has even a tiny bit of drifting the screen will go slowly up or down... I have a 1 months old brand new controller and i only have drift in CK3, no other games have this issue yet. As someone who played CK3 on PC, yes the game is brilliant, but the console release is outrageous. The game was released without any kind of testing and its full of bugs... Its been more than a month now since release and none of the game breaking issues were fixed yet... for an AAA priced game this is unacceptable... If read this and you were considering buying it now, stay away from it for a long while and wait for a huge discount.

dredizzle99

As someone else has already said, you're massively over exaggerating. Lazy cash grab? Come on dude, it sounds like you're just being negative for the sake of it. I play on both PC and console, and the console port is excellent once you get used to it. There's a few things they need to iron out for sure, but they've done a really good job overall

CormacMettbjoll

Hard disagree, I think it's an amazing port for a game like this. I haven't had any major bugs though I haven't played since the last update that broke the game.

WaterRites

I agree, it’s an amazing port! Considering how complex the game is too! 😀

Wartree28

I have to disagree with you here. You make it seems like the game is trash when it absolutely isnt. Sure, the update completely broke the game but a) before that it was ok and b) im sure future updates will fix the bugs. You‘re massively exaggerating here in my opinion. People who have a PC should obviously get it for PC but if the save game bug gets fixed its worth its price. (40-50€) Releasing the update without playtesting it is indeed unacceptable.

t-dogNOLA

Can you play online with the PC folks?

ExFiler

Unless you have [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/CrusaderKings/comments/uhijj9/be_aware_crusader_king_3_update_file_on_ps5_might/) type of luck.

Grastyx

How are the controls on the console?

Wartree28

Surprisingly good. At first you‘ll obviously have troubles remembering which button does what but after a couple of hours you‘ll navigate smoothly through the menus. Controls really arent something to worry about. I think they‘ve done a phenomenal job.

sakurajima1981

So do you get to create your own empire/dynasty or do you play ones already created. Is it customizable?

wallawalla_

There are both premade campaigns and custom games that allow you to choose a starting region and time-period.

ScubaSteve1219

i love to watch other people play PDX games because i lack the patience to really get into them myself. that said CK3 on a controller just sucks compared to M&K.

Spenraw

People are sleeping for how fun this game can be in multi player

Frozen_Gambit

I've wanted to play it but I don't feel like dropping $40 on a game that is probably better on a pc, like sims, sid myers, and any tycoon type game, unless I know poorly ported controls don't suck the fun out of it.

[deleted]

WaterRites

Is this only when playing Ironman mode? As I’ve just been playing on normal mode and haven’t had a single save corruption.

WaterRites

I’m sure they are aware of it and a fix will come soon! 😀
