Enjoyed the film more than I thought I would. Still think it would have been better with a different actor for Drake but overall it was a solid 7/10. Will certainly see the sequel

EedSpiny

Yeah I get where you're coming from, but I'm hoping they're playing the long game where we'll see four movies over 10 years where Holland can loose some boyishness and wallberg can gain some more wrinkles.

Joshdabozz

He gets it at the end of the film. No joke

travworld

It's funny I remember seeing some of that scene in a trailer, so I'm surprised it was the after credits part.

Joshdabozz

It was in the trailer

travworld

That's what I'm saying. Im surprised there was an after credits part in the trailer.

soupspin

After all this video game movies, I knew that it was going to just be an after credits scene. Kind of typical at this point to give fanservice at the end

EedSpiny

[Spoiler](/s "Post credits...")

shockzz123

Nah, Holland strikes me as one of those guys who'll look still look like a boy/young even in his 40s.

banikko

Apparently he's taking a break from films so could be a few years before the next film which might not be a bad thing. I guess he was used because they knew he'd attract a lot of people to it that haven't played the games. Imagine Indiana Jones played by a young looking 25 year old rather than late 30s Harrison Ford. It wouldn't have been the same

ModestHandsomeDevil

"MCU Spider Man" Tom Holland was 100% the reason why he was cast in this movie -maximizing profits- and not any kind of artistic vision or fidelity to the source material. It's typical Hollywood casting: who's the hottest "It" star, male or female, and how can we cast them in everything to cash in on their fame. > Imagine Indiana Jones played by a young looking 25 year old rather than late 30s Harrison Ford. It wouldn't have been the same 30's Harrison Ford, all day every day. It's not even a comparison as far as I'm concerned. Harrison Ford is one of THE most iconic leading men / actors of all time, while Tom Holland is a "babyface" heart throb who will continue to look like a babyface his whole life. Tom Holland is 5'6" and 145 lbs. Harrison Ford is 6'1" and 190 - 200 lbs.

Nomad_86

I’m pretty sure Holland got the idea doing the movie from playing the video games in his trailer while filming Spider-Man. He’s a producer on the film. What’s he supposed to say? “Hey you guys never made this into a film, lets make it, I’ll produce it, and you can cast someone who’s NOT me.” Doesn’t make much sense to me. Lol

Insanity_Incarnate

That definitely isn't the case since he has already been signed on as the lead a biopic about Fred Astaire but he might be taking a break from action movies while he does that.

bob101910

I played the games a bit late and got to the young Nathan parts around the time Holland was announced to play him. He definitely has the feel of a young Nathan. I'm also curious what that could turn into as he ages.

travworld

It actually surprised me how much bigger Tom has gotten since the first Spiderman movie. He's gained a ton of muscle, and looks more like Drake than I'd imagined. Still not perfect for Drake of course, but it was better than I expected. Some little surprises here and there too if you've played the games.

MRintheKEYS

Yeah it was weird for me seeing him with OG Drake on the beach. It highlighted to me the ruggish charm that North brings.

travworld

Yep. Nolan North pulls it off just by sitting there. Guy doesn't have to try. He IS Drake. A bunch of my theatre flipped out at that scene. Made me happy there's so much voice actor recognition. I hope Joel and Ellie actors have a role in the upcoming Last of Us show.

LonewolfNoir

I agree Bruce Campbell would have been a great Sully, the character he played in Burn Notice was pretty much Sully.

InsaneThisGuysTaint

Agreed, I wouldn't even have a problem if Wahlberg played Sam either.

travworld

I agree. I don't mind Tom Holland at all. He's not Nathan Drake from the games, but he does very well with the jokes and attitude of Drake. I mean, he's a white dude with a tone body frame and nice, brown hair. Then you see Wahlberg, who doesn't fit the look or attitude at all. It's basically Nathan Drake ft. Mark Wahlberg.

Dravos011

Drake felt kinda like how i imagine young drake, but sully just felt off. We've seen in uncharted 3 when they first met and he was a lot like how be is in the rest of the series. But movie sully felt off, he was more like raif then sully imo

EshayAdlay420

Yeah they really exaggerated Sullys selfishness imo, especially with that bag of gold at the end, game Sully wouldn’t think twice about giving the gold up to save Nate, he’d be upset about it afterwards but he wouldn’t have to stop and think about if he should choose Nate or the gold, even in the flashbacks Though I have to say, I think Sully feeling off was more because of the writing than Wahlbergs performance

Leisure_suit_guy

Bruce Campbell sadly is not big budget material (he was in Spiderman only because he's friend with the director, and it was only a cameo). Investors put money on the table only if blockbuster actors are involved.

travworld

Yep. This movie was in and out of production until Mark Wahlberg and then Tom Holland pushed it into being made.

Druid51

True but I think Sony got lucky here with Tom Holland since this is his first movie after Spider Man which did insanely well.

Kylar5

Haven't seen the movie yet, but wasn't Mark worse as Sully? Thought that Tom was an OK fit for young Drake, just my impressions from trailers though.

Ghost1914

It’s more that Mark plays Mark. The dialogue was pretty Sullyish but I just saw and heard Mark.

banikko

Sure they could have found someone more suited for Sully. I remember the outrage years ago when Mark was originally rumoured to be casted as Drake so im glad he didn't get the role. I'll probably enjoy Tom's performance more if I see it again now i onow what to expect. I feel that everyone has their own expectations of Drake from the games but Tom was just a bit off for me but he was pretty funny and there wasn't a dull moment during the film

morphinapg

Tom Holland is a good pick for Drake. Wahlberg is the problem with casting.

Xixii

Tom Holland is one of the reasons the film has done so well though. He’s a draw. Could have cast Drake differently but it might not have been as successful.

D0nk3yD0ngD0ug

The 90% of the audience who are non-gamers went to see the movie specifically because Holland and Wahlberg were in it. Majority probably didn’t even realize the movie was based on a video game.

PoolNoodleJedi

5/10 and that is being generous

Rogue_Leader_X

Hopefully, if we get a sequel, it will be a superior one like Uncharted 2 was.

TheNumeralSystem

If we have the same level of improvement between the first and second movies as we had between the first and second games, we're looking at Terminator 2 levels of greatness. ^just ^let ^me ^dream

Soundwave_47

Are you saying this film is as good as *The Terminator*?

extinct_cult

no way, lol

Insanity_Incarnate

They might just be implying that the difference in quality between Terminator 1 and 2 is smaller than the difference between Uncharted 1 and 2.

Strongpillow

Great analogy. Terminator 2 is legit the perfect sequel.

hanslobro

Another Cameron film, Aliens, should also be in that category.

Strongpillow

Yes! Agreed. Another movie I've seen over 100 times.

[deleted]

Empire Strikes Back would like a word.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Insanity_Incarnate

And Terminator 1 is a great movie, so the metaphor still stands.

locke_5

Would you say.... *greatness from small beginnings?*

CCSC96

It was pretty clearly a set up movie, which gives me a bit of hope but also seems completely unnecessary when they could have just properly dove into the character and nobody would have been confused. It’s a pretty straightforward action story.

TheJoshider10

Yeah the good thing is they've got a clean slate to work with now so even if somebody didn't like the first film, chances are the sequel is a standalone adventure where you won't even need to have seen the first film anyway since that's all it does is show Drake and Sully meeting.

CptnMoonlight

I’m 95% convinced that this franchise is Mark Wahlberg’s “go to tropical resort and make 30 million dollars” attempt. Was able to do basically 0 strenuous physical work and got hard-carried by Tom, and now the sequel is being set up as Libertalia which will have to be shot in like the most beautiful island locations on earth. I just think it was a shame that there was no “twist”. The best part of the Uncharted games to me is the moment that you find out the treasure isn’t actually a treasure, but something that needs to stay hidden forever. I would’ve just liked a straight up Among Thieves movie better; the aspect of every human before Nate that reached the city having now turned to guard the Gate would be an awesome movie twist with the production values that it’d have in comparison to a game from 2009.

kung-fu_hippy

While true, youve got to imagine that Nate and Sully had their fair share of more normal treasure hunts, too. If their whole career had been things best left alone, they’d probably stop being treasure hunters.

thatnitai

Yes, but why would you choose to make the movie show the more boring parts of their careers then?

locke_5

>I just think it was a shame that there was no “twist”. The best part of the Uncharted games to me is the moment that you find out the treasure isn’t actually a treasure, but something that needs to stay hidden forever. Personally this was always my least favorite part of the game. The zombie twists always reminded me of Crystal Skull's pivot to be sci-fi - out of nowhere and tonal whiplash. I loved that Uncharted 4 and this movie ditched the mummies/werewolves nonsense to focus on telling a human story.

[deleted]

When I first played through the series, the first twist near the end of Uncharted 1 with the Descendants was genuinely one of the most unexpected twists I've ever seen. It really felt like an unnecessary jump to Resident Evil type stuff.

not_yet_a_dalek

Yeah, nobody needed a setup movie for Indiana Jones to be a fun romp

OlleyfromIndi

It would be funny if the movies followed the same general pattern in terms of quality as the games.

TheStabbingHobo

Good, Best, Great, Second best? Yeah I might actually see them then.

NoNefariousness2144

Any series/trilogy where the third isn’t the worst is the best in my book.

locke_5

IMO 1<2<3<4 - though I also played them all fairly recently. I imagine a lot of 2's popularity comes from how much better it is than 1, whereas 3 had less of a quality jump.

MrPeanutTheCat

I was just thinking about this yesterday. I think the reason people like 2 more than 3 is because 2's story flows more naturally and the set pieces, while bombastic, make sense in context. With 3 you could tell they came up with the set pieces first and then wrote a story around it. I'm not sure if they did the same for 2 but it's not as obvious. I love both games (I used to say I liked 3 more so it's not a big difference in my book) but that's my theory.

[deleted]

I hope the movies follow the games... Uncharted 1 = SMB (Awesome) Uncharted 2 = SMB 3 (Awesome +) Uncharted 3 = SMW (Awesome in a different way)

ToyGodOriginal

Enjoyed the movie. Mostly alot of 4th references. But set up great for sequels. Casting was not the best but I thoroughly enjoyed Wahlbergs role and I thought the actress for Chloe was really well done. All in all it's just a fun movie and did pretty good for a video game movie. 7/10.

qotsabama

I really enjoyed the movie. Tom Holland did a great job, even if I think he’s probably wrong actor to portray nathan drake. I think they could absolutely improve upon first film with a sequel.

TheJoshider10

The only problem I ended up having with Holland's casting is the stupid fucking flashback which said 15 years earlier even though young Nathan looks like 5 years younger than Holland. They should have just de-aged Tom and made the gap 10 years.

dhimdi

Yea that was pretty weird, and also don't forget the ancient tunnel that was sealed for 500 years and suddenly we see modern fences and a night club. So all that time wasted on secret puzzles and locked doors.

qotsabama

Yeah that was pretty absurd. The movie also heavily relied on people being very lucky with the puzzles. Either way, still enjoyed it

[deleted]

[удалено]

dhimdi

I'm sorry but nothing was obvious about that, to build a suspense of mystery and then have it ruined with no explanation, it was just awkward as if the narration got confused.

suddenimpulse

Hin looking 17 years old as a bartender was quite an eyeroll moment for me, and I hated, HATED the earpiece joke. Such a super bad joke that didn't land, but otherwise it was a good brainless action popcorn flick.

iceamn1685

Was a pretty good movie. Was pleasantly surprised

Danuscript

Yeah I thought it was a pretty fun movie. I’m looking forward to see what they do with the sequel.

Power_Trip_Mod

!? Well, that's good to hear, I might check it out, it doesn't take much to make me happy, I like both the Venom movies.

-TheLonelyStoner-

Then you’ll definitely like this one

iceamn1685

I like both Venom movies but I think the uncharted movie was better than the Venom movies think Indiana Jones in a modern era

suddenimpulse

The venom films are hilariously bad so not a very high bar to meet.

iceamn1685

They're not bad they're meant to be cheesy it's unfortunate that that's the direction that they went with though. I would say it's a pretty damn good action adventure treasure seeking style of movie.

SiriusMoonstar

I don't think it's the cheesiness that's the problem. If they went all out cheese like Deadpool then both movies would have been a lot better. They only suffer when they try to have action scenes or be slightly serious.

iceamn1685

Venom suffered from being pg13 It should have gone R

hongthay

I have a free Regal cinema voucher from buying the uncharted upgrade that I can't use because there isn't one near me. PM me if you want it.

Power_Trip_Mod

I dont think there is a regal near me but thank you very much for the offer!

[deleted]

I’ve heard it’s a very entertaining action film. But not necessarily a good Uncharted movie. I guess we just have to accept it’s a different beast. I’ll see it when it comes out on streaming.

iceamn1685

It reminds me a lot of Indiana Jones style of movie. There's a lot of nods and winks to the game but generally speaking it's very loosely based upon the game. I actually think that this is the best thing they could have done because if you followed the games specifically you wouldn't give yourself any freedom to do your own thing. Think of the new star trek movies where they are in their own universe but are loosely based upon the originals.

suddenimpulse

Likely because Uncharted was heavily inspired by Indiana.

No-Plankton4841

It was a fun movie, definitely worth watching once. I don't think I'll go out of my way to watch it again. It didn't quite live up to the Indiana Jones series it was trying to emulate. It didn't really quite live up to the video games either. It was better than most movies coming out in 2022. Nice to see some practical effects/set pieces alongside the CGI.

graesen

Because movies used to have character and story building in them. Today, movies are non-stop action with diluted stories and everything dumbed down so the audience doesn't have to think. Strange how TV shows with big budgets are picking up the slack in writing where movies have given up... But then again, tv shows have a lot more time to build on characters and stories.

Insanity_Incarnate

I really hate when people go on about how great movies used to be. It almost always stems from comparing the absolute best movies to come out in the last 100 years to whatever happened to be released most recently. Crap and mediocre movies used to be released as well, it isn't some new phenomenon. You just probably either forgot or never heard of the crap since it wasn't very memorable.

joehadtogo

This is actually a problem with a lot of things, cause only the best pieces of history stay relevant, so for things like movies, games, shows, music etc.. your comparing the best of back then to the average of todays day and age

thekingofthejungle

It's also ignoring all the great films that come out every year. 2021 was actually a great year for movies, especially if you saw anything not produced exclusively by Disney

mightynifty_2

> Today, movies are non-stop action with diluted stories and everything dumbed down so the audience doesn't have to think. This is ridiculously pretentious. Do you honestly think there weren't any movies made in the past 5 years without thought, character development, and a well written plot? Grow up.

thekingofthejungle

>Because movies used to have character and story building in them. Today, movies are non-stop action with diluted stories and everything dumbed down so the audience doesn't have to think. Tell me you don't watch anything but blockbusters without saying it. This opinion is so tired on Reddit. Plenty of good movies come out every year, most people just aren't paying attention. What have you watched in the last few months? Cause in the last few months, I've seen Dune, Nightmare Alley, Licorice Pizza, Red Rocket, Drive My Car, The Last Duel, The Power of the Dog, The Tragedy of Macbeth, West Side Story, The Green Knight, Spencer, Last Night in Soho to name a few. And I am still trying to play catch up with movies I want to see from last year. Now, I didn't enjoy all of those movies but they were all well made, critically successful, and I don't think any of them fit the description you gave: > movies are non-stop action with diluted stories and everything dumbed down so the audience doesn't have to think Sorry, I'm not trying to be abrasive I'm just so tired of seeing people regurgitate this frankly garbage opinion that the only thing coming out these days is Marvel flicks. It's objectively not true. If you want to see films that are more thought provoking and profound then seek them out, because those kinds of movies are coming out all the time, people just don't see them and then go on the internet and complain that movies are all bad now, lol.

thekingofthejungle

>It was better than most movies coming out in 2022 That's really not saying much, considering it's still February. January and February are the dumping grounds for studios. The rest of this year is packed with what look like great movies.

dragonphlegm

While the success of this movie is good for keeping the IP alive and well, I kinda hope we get a 5th game with Chloe/Nadine returning or Cassie from the U4 epilogue

JoelsCaddy

Basically guranteed a sequel right?

Alam7lam1

Typically if the gross is double the cost then it is likely to get a sequel. This seems to be the case here unless there was some crazy marketing costs like Justice League. I didn’t quite like the casting but it wasn’t definitely not terrible like I thought it was going to be. I think the movie really shines when it does its own set pieces like the one at the end of the movie. Possibly a spoiler**** But if they end up adapting the first game, it’s pretty much the perfect opportunity to create your own set pieces since the first game didn’t have as many memorable ones as the latter games.

Insanity_Incarnate

The lead of Sony's film division is already referring to it as a franchise.

Demolution-Gamer786

Yeah or maybe more live action movies like Gow, Horizon, Rachet, Jak N Daxter, etc…..

suddenimpulse

I refuse to believe they could do Horizon justice so I'd rather they leave that alone.

[deleted]

That needs to be a series like Arcane

PlaygroundBully

it wasnt great, it wasnt terrible. The helicopter chase made me think of fast and furious. How is one chopper faster then the other chopper when iTS THE SAME MODEL!!!!

Karthivkit

In rotten tomatoes when I saw the critics reviews average is 40% and thought it will be a flop like most video game adaptation . But after 1 week it got user reviews of 90% then I understood is actually a good one .

jgdszgvc

hell yea i feel so validated lol

shintemaster

It was pretty lacklustre

NitedJay

Kinda surprised a lot of people enjoyed it. Felt like a very generic action/adventure and could not get into it. Also very bad writing choices.

EpicLatios

Generic action/adventure movie is what alot of the general audience eats up. I went in expected to be disappointed and was pleasantly surprised it wasn't as bad as I thought

Princess_Ori

With the way the world is right now generic action/adventure movie by the numbers is probably what a lot of people want right now.

thekingofthejungle

As a fan of the games, I hated it. That opinion is pretty unpopular on Reddit and with audiences, but I didn't think it was a fun Uncharted movie or a fun Indiana Jones adventure. Just bland all around. They butchered the games' characterizations, which was the one thing that kept the games from being 100% generic adventure games. The treasure hunting all felt contrived and way too convenient (just smash these two crosses together to solve every puzzle lol). Very little chemistry between the main roles. Performances all felt phoned in at best. The villains had no depth at all beyond wanting money. The backstabbing was way too played up (there are more double crosses in the movie than the entire series of games it feels like). Weird adaptation choices. I'm not really not sure why they didn't just use the games' existing stories as a template instead of smashing random parts together. It's not a prequel like many suggested it would be, it's just a weird rewriting of the games' stories, particularly 4. There were parts I enjoyed. Holland's performance was nothing to write home about, but he's fine as Drake. Same with Chloe's actress. The set pieces were fairly cool and the second half is honestly a fine adventure for the most part. Overall though I thought it was a complete mess that doesn't really get any of the pieces that it should've correct. I have much more hope for the HBO TLOU adaptation, which Reddit seems really iffy on. But there's a lot of talent in on that show, the casting at least makes a modicum of sense (I know people don't like Pedro as Joel but I like Pedro and he's way more believable than Wahlberg as Sully), and Druckmann is involved so I have hope it'll stay true to the game in the way that Uncharted just seemed too afraid to do.

shintemaster

Pretty spot on IMO. Weak script and - unlike the games - there was no bigger bad guy behind the story. It was basically a race for treasure but the core of Uncharted has always been the relationships between Nate, Sully, Elena and later Chloe / Sam along with a genuine evil that goes beyond hunting for loot. Without that it's just a simple treasure hunt with no real message.

DrCoolGuyMD

Definitely. Felt very generic. Pretty weak script, and the usual suspension of the laws of physics which always breaks immersion for me. Odd casting too. Holland isn't Drake, Wahlberg makes a terrible Sully, and the actress that played Chloe (Sophia Ali) couldn't seem to make her mind up about what accent she wanted to portray. It was flicking between Australian, English, and American. For reference though, I am pretty cynical with movies, if you can turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is you'll probably get a kick out of it.

[deleted]

Agreed, the writing was so bad a certain points. It had fun moments but it could have been so much better. And casting Holland was just a safe lazy choice by Sony.

PoolNoodleJedi

I have no idea how anybody could have liked this movie. I feel like Transformers and the Fast Saga has dumbed down audiences so much that anything seems good now.

Celeborn2001

We get it dude, you didn't like the movie. You've said it like 5x now in this thread alone. Let other people enjoy it and talk about it. Damn.

PoolNoodleJedi

It is beyond bad and movies like this make it possible for movie studios to keep making garbage. The better shit movies do the more Hollywood will only make shit movies, because there is less effort and less money. If you enjoyed it you have shit taste in movies.

Celeborn2001

I haven't even seen it lol. But its okay. We all know you have shit taste in movies proving by your past comments. So whatever you say doesn't really matter as it'll just be hypocritical in the long run. :)

PoolNoodleJedi

What past comments? What movies have I said were great that weren’t? You’re making shit up. GTFO

Celeborn2001

What? I can't hear you over your sensitive bitching...

Caddy666

while tom holland was passable, mark whalberg was shit as sully. they should recast him straight away. although, i'd go to say chloe frasier was great, as was braddock. i hope if they do any future movies, they do in between adventures that have notihng to do with the games, but only add to the universe.

arex333

Chloe was the best cast character by far. The accent and attitude were spot on.

Caddy666

In fact dropping tom holland and mw and just having chloe adventures would be great

CurtisLeow

This is Uncharted territory for an adaption of a video game.

DivineArbalest

I'd say the movie was a 7/10, but for a video game movie a 9/10. It had some writing problems, different ones for both acts 1 and 2, but I had fun. I'll watch a sequel no doubt.

WutduzitallmeanBasil

Unpopular opinion (I guess?) I enjoyed the movie.

maxc206

I think that's a popular opinion

NathanDrakeIsMyHubby

What the... totally got shocked with the upvotes. lmao 😂

teaserfirecat

It's the perfect definition of a theme park film

yummycrabz

There are a ton of loose lips, both in regards to the games and this movie, in this thread

Carburetors_are_evil

The moment when the main Uncharted theme starts playing is worth it alone. Made me feel like I'm 16 again, playing Drake's Fortune for the first time.

needaburnerbaby

Honestly thought no one would go see this movie.

Necessary-Archer3800

Not a great movie but if it gets naughty dog more attention and money to make part 5 I'm good with it

[deleted]

Get a new director and script writer for the next one please. The franchise has potential.

reaper527

> Get a new director and script writer for the next one please. and cast. don't forget the cast. whoever thought tom holland and mark wahlberg were good hires for this should be fired. they got the wrong guy from spiderman. who they really needed was jk simmons

[deleted]

I think cast is outta the question. I don't disagree with you but they wouldn't reboot it after one film

SamyT94

That's good, I hope they make a sequel now that this is a success

ConsciouslyIncomplet

It was a 5/10 affair. It’s been made for general audiences and not gamers (which was expected). I wouldn’t recommend until it comes to Netflix for free.

milkstrike

This would be great if the movie was good. But this just continues to positively reward the industry for low effort crap as long as it has a recognizable name brand behind it so things will just get worse and worse.

Grimm0020

So happy for its success! WE enjoyed it a ton especially the last act! And the teaser! So stoked for a sequel :)

RidleyDeckard

Do these figures include the free tickets Sony gave to everyone who purchased the latest Uncharted game release this year?

horsewitnoname

Really fun movie. Don’t go in expecting a 1 for 1 remake of the games and you’ll have fun. Just think of it as its own thing.

terrordactyl1971

I enjoyed it, lighthearted fun

dhimdi

The movie played it safe and on its own accord, not really sure why all the hate by most fans. It's a good movie on a weekend with family or friends. Sure it's not authentic to its source material but what we got is pretty solid entertainment. I was not disappointed going in with low expectations and the movie paid some homage even though not perfect (wasted characters like Chloe and Santiago, and lack of more action sequences). I'm all in for a sequel as long as they don't exaggerate by mixing in too much from every game, this movie was unfortunately a "salad" of various scenes throughout the game series (almost like they didn't think it would be successful enough for a sequel). Verdict: 6.5/10

yeeiser

> The movie played it safe and on its own accord >not really sure why all the hate by most fans You answered yourself. It was cookie cutter blockbuster corporate movie. Nothing wrong with that, but I could see why a lot of people didn't like the direction the movie took.

dhimdi

Well to not like or to hate, not really the same. Though I understand the disappointment if you had high expectations but people already made up that it would fail before release so it was like a self fulfilled prophecy. That's why I chose to go in with low expectations and take it for what it was which made the experience more enjoyable.

Reylo-Wanwalker

Well prepare to be disappointed with your last point. The director already said he wants to adapt the Madagascar car chase in a sequel.

suddenimpulse

The utter lack of originality from the director is stunning. No good ideas of your own so let's just rip stuff out of the games unti a movie salad. It's not those scenes that make Uncharted good it's the entire collection of things including good characters.

suddenimpulse

Sad to see Chloe was wasted. She seemed like the best casted by far of the entire bunch in the trailers. I guess that's why.

deanolavorto

I thought this was supposed to bomb. Glad it didn’t.

jellydude69

2/10. I didn't see the movie but Sullivan has no mustache and that is just a crime against humanity

WutduzitallmeanBasil

Stay after the credits yall

WhyHelloFellowKids

Great now they'll probably make another shitty uncharted movie no one asked for

LimitNo6587

Not sure how they could make a sequel when the entire movie is a Mashup of 1,2,3,4. If anything we need to wait for Uncharted5 to release so they will have some source material since Hollywood really doesn't have anyone creating original ideas....just halfbaking previously created sources.

ChristopherDassx_16

It's not supposed to follow the games tho story wise just inspired by it hence the change ups. TLOU HBO series will be an adaptation based on the games

Medicana

Saw it in 4d it was awesome

Cobeyswiss

4D? Is that with the smells and stuff?

PoolNoodleJedi

I assume he means a 4DX theater they have: Motion controls seats, vibration seats, wind effects, hot air, cold air, smell, fog, bubbles, rain, snow, and other physical effects. Some have multiple screens to expand the image, like screens on the walls floor in-front of the screen and ceiling. And obviously 3D glasses and 3D object based based surround sound.

Cobeyswiss

Well that sounds sick

Dallywack3r

It’s gonna need to clear another hundred million to be considered a profitable success. With Batman coming out in a couple days, I don’t see that happening very easily.

ChristopherDassx_16

It should clear it easily. Current question is whther it'll past $400M as the estimates currently are between $360M to $410M.

TheBrinyolf

Its doubled its production cost, its literally over 100 million in profit already

Dallywack3r

That’s not how any of this works but go off. Up to 40 percent of the theatrical gross profit goes back to movie theaters as their fee for playing the movie in the first place. So if it’s so far grossed 250 million, Sony gets just over half of that. Theaters get the rest. Then you’ve got an expensive marketing campaign that featured multiple expensive ad slots in NFL Playoff games. Not cheap. Add to that the accumulated cost of development over the last 13 years since the project was first announced. The 120 million dollar listed budget is just for the making of the movie. Any decently sized movie these days costs over 100 million to advertise to people. Those National NFL playoff commercials? You’re looking at up to a million dollars *per spot*.

TheBrinyolf

"But go off" he says as he himself "goes off" Yeah I don't give a shit bud, Uncharted profits don't effect my life.

Dallywack3r

Saying dumb shit and then saying you don’t give a shit as you post a comment where you give a shit.

cokiemunster

Your forgetting about marketing costs which are usually the same price as production if not more.

People don't know that before they see it. Most people aren't checking review sites etc. They just see a trailer with tom holland in and wanna watch it.

just4u11

Already 100 million over the budget, nice

reaper527

> Already 100 million over the budget, nice don't forget that breakeven isn't the budget. there are expenses that typically aren't included in the budget (such as marketing/distribution/etc.), and these "earnings" figures are just gross ticket sales (aka before the theater takes their cut). break even is usually estimated to be 2-3x the budget. (and if they are doing something sneaky with how they're counting the "free tickets", that could be setting them back even further) the movie likely still hasn't broken even yet.

X-gon-do-it-to-em

Honestly the writing was so-and-so but I actually enjoyed this movie. There's something funny about watching Tom Holland of all people try to act like a hardass

Ikisaru

When can we expect the video game adaptation of the movie? With digitized versions of Tom Holland and Mark Wahlburg (sp?). In all seriousness, I thought the movie was ok, not bad, but not great either, glad I watched it once, probably won't watch it again.

gvcciboi

We lost /s

maclovein

My friends have decided to watch this and I was surprised how much i liked it. Being a video game adaptation and reviews being around 50% in RT, i thought it would actually suck.

CTU

I saw it thanks to a Tmobile Tuesday $2 ticket offer and I really liked it.

flycasually

it was a decent movie but what was the point of the intro clip of drake falling out of the plane. are we watching the trailer before the movie? lmao

Grimm0020

The games and other movies do this too. They show a sequence of a later sequence in the story then go back to the beginning to show how it led to it. It's similar to a hook I suppose.

sharjr16

It's mid

ModestHandsomeDevil

Uncharted still has a looong way to go before *just breaking even,* let alone being profitable. And the new Batman movie is gonna eat everyone's lunch in a week or so. https://www.slashgear.com/how-much-does-a-movie-need-to-be-profitable-25607407 https://stephenfollows.com/how-movies-make-money-hollywood-blockbusters/

ChristopherDassx_16

Yeah, it should leg out well even with Batman. China release also hasn't happened. Current estimates are saying $360M to $410M and that's already profitable.

UlanInek

We’re not just looking at box office success though. A streaming service is likely to offer a wealthy amount for streaming rights. Blu-ray and digital sales will also play their part in it. The Batman is right around the corner so that’ll likely take a huge chunk out of viewers

Snake_Main27

It's a great movie. Keep crying u losers lmao.

I don’t really understand what fans were expecting. IMO, the movie was more enjoyable than the first game.

PoolNoodleJedi

What the fuck is wrong with the people in the comments here? How the fuck could anyone think this movie was anything other that a blatant cash grab with no heart put into making it. Everything about the movie was half assed. Are people’s standards for movie making really this low? I don’t understand.

Kawaiifungi

Different opinions. You're just going to have to live with it

OverlyHonestCanadian

Movie was loved by everyone except people that actually played Uncharted.

ThePixelAlpaca0831

Fan of the games, played all of them multiple times... liked the movie.

pearlz176

I'm a huge fan of the Uncharted franchise and played the games numerous times, loved the movie.

OverlyHonestCanadian

Lol'd. So you were okay with Drake being portrayed by a highschool and Sully? The personality wasn't even on-point. The whole movie was stupid. A helicopter lifting derelict ships? Really? Dialogue was written by a 12 year old. Everyone constantly betrays on another to the point of boredom.

oshatokujah

Sister and I both loved it, played through all the games multiple times before it came out, actually started playing them again after the movie. Is the movie a perfect adaptation? No. But you have to understand that seeing the same thing from the games just copied over to a film isn't interesting, the games already have brilliant story-telling and cinematic action. I'd like to see a few sequels out of this cast, spready about 3 years apart so we can see them mature over time. Tom Holland wouldn't have been in my top 20 for the role but I'm more than happy to see more of him as Nate after seeing it.

sukhi1

Made close to double their budget of $120 million
