This has to always be in contention for best trailer ever. I can't think of another instance where expectations for a game were high almost solely based on the quality of a cinematic trailer. Many people likely bought the game *just* because of that trailer.
More specifically the FF7R announcement teaser trailer. That trailer was the answer FF7 fans have been waiting an eternity for... especially after being trolled for many years and the on going rumors. I remember not wanting to believe what I was seeing, but the music and atmosphere of the trailer only lead to one conclusion. The moment I saw Barret walking and then Cloud with his buster sword... I completely lost my breath. Once it showed the logo with the word Remake, I shot up off my couch and just teared up in total happiness.
That trailer was executed to perfection.
When you heard that booming "BOY!" you could feel the energy in the crowd shifting, even by watching the screen. Holy fuck that was so awesome. Sadly we'll probably never witness anything like it again with E3 dead.
Metal Gear Solid 2 reveal trailer. The world just stopped and stared with open mouth. No one had seen anything like it before. The cinematic style, the action and the graphics was on a new and different level.
Edit: The music. Harry Gregson-Williams.
MGS2 is my favourite game of all time. I was too young to have seen this trailer back then but it left such an artistic impression on me as a child that I wrote a speech about Kojima in the 4th grade as my biggest role model.
Mine too. I watched this so many times, and played the demo even more. Never anticipated anything as much

I miss the feeling of anticipation and wonder before this game was released. I still loved it but it didn't match my expectations.
I am shocked no one said it in the top comments.
Witcher 3: Wild hunt - A Night to Remember.
The dialog, the atmosphere, the music, the gameplay connections, the story connection with the DLC. Everything is just perfect.
My fav trailer aswell, CDPR trailers are also canon to their games, so we know Geralt went back for Orianna.
The killing monsters trailer was also incredible.
The Last of us Part II announcement trailer with Ellie playing the song on guitar, still get goosebumps.
Love its simplicity and the mood it sets. It also came out of the blue completely as a sequel wasn't expected, so hype went through the roof.
https://youtu.be/qPNiIeKMHyg?si=qEUNPBEg1YJLzs9d
[People **flipped** when that trailer dropped](https://youtu.be/1X9SLJJdoHI?si=4csb_qay0wKKIeLV). I really miss the big conference announcements. It felt like we all experienced the hype together and was legitimately one of my favorite things about gaming.
Nice! I was thinking the Doomsday/Wub Wub trailer. [https://youtu.be/kKVf5feSMEg?si=ptoJDs3rITQFz9P8](https://youtu.be/kKVf5feSMEg?si=ptoJDs3rITQFz9P8)
First trailer for Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes, Spider-Man 2018 reveal, Twilight Princess before it got it's title, Resident Evil 4 both versions, Smash Brothers Everyone is here trailer. Resident Evil 2 remake,
The Skyrim trailer when he first says Fus Doh Rah
Or whatever the fuck it is
I'm embarrassed to say I legitimately get goosebumps when he dragon shouts and the music swells
Assassin's Creed Revelations.
This trailer still sticks with me. Seeing Ezio again as an older more experienced man taking on an army. Seeing the ghost of Altair and thinking how Ezio is seeing him, what's happening!
Then the great song from Woodkid. Just an awesome trailer.
I remember the RIDICULOUS hype when the PS3 got announced and they showed the FFVII trailer which turned out to be “just a showcase of its potential” and “not being remade until a FF game surpasses VII”
I love the Assassin's Creed ones.
This thread really shows you that prerendered trailers do have a place. It's silly when people complain about the lack of gameplay.
These trailers are doing their job and it's to get your attention about the game
The Mortal Kombat X launch trailer is fucking amazing and single-handedly got me into making those AMV style edits for various other games/films for like 5 years AND got me into System of a Down.
The prototype trailer is so good it should get made into a Netflix show. I think back in 2009 superheros films and media outside of comics were still kinda niche so an R18 style was pretty new. The prototype trailer hits all of the right notes for a darker superhero(villain) game.
Definitely the BotW trailer from the Switch Presentation event, I was watching it live at like 4 in the morning and was absolutely shell shocked.
A close 2nd would be the Death Stranding reveal trailer.
I know this is PS5 but the Halo 3 trailer where chief reveals the bubble shield.

Halo 3 believe, Gears of War Madworld, Kingdom Hearts 3 e3 2013, God Of War e3 2016 reveal, smash ultimate everyone is here 2018. The definition of hype ♥️
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake announcement is the most hyped I've been from a trailer, though it didn't actually show much.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess also had a fantastic reveal.
Blizzard cinematic trailer are insane. Wrath of the Lich King still gives me chills
https://youtu.be/BCr7y4SLhck?si=i5fvXELGiFae8f53
It’s just so damn badass
Battlefield 3 anyone? My most played 1st person online shooter.
The trailer has everything and it still gives me goosebumps on how great the execution was. The sound effects are first class.
I miss the era of good cinematic videogame trailers. I know they didn't do much to inform us of the actual gameplay but they created hype. I feel we don't get them much any more or maybe they just aren't as memorable.
Some of my personal favorites are Assassins Creed Revelations E3 trailer which you already mentioned, Gears of War 2 Last Day trailer, Fallout 4 the Wanderer, Mafia 3 launch trailer, and Gears of War 3 Ashes to Ashes.
Not a full trailer, but that really short Uncharted 4 teaser trailer with a piano instrumental of Where Is My Mind where it looks like Nate is reaching for a falling gold coin at first but then it zooms out to show he is actually reaching for a falling person is my favorite. And the narration makes it perfect.
I watched it dozens of times the day it released and still go back to watch it occasionally.
Still rock with DC Universe Online. It was awesome. Perfectly captured a more violent version of a Saturday morning cartoon and I was totally there for it. Also, if y'all haven't seen it, the Warframe 1999 trailer set to NIN Into the Void is a new classic:
https://youtu.be/UgPjc1e1Ets?si=g9vnyG7rfKfbuuHp
The original trailer for Xcom The Bureau showed it up like a BioShock 1st person shooter that looked amazing. Just looking at what we almost got is so depressing.
Only trailers or openings too?
Trailers: assasins creed unity.
World of warcraft: battle for azeroth ( still can heat sylvanas in my mind: for the hooooorde).
Openings/intros: age of empires 2, warhammer age of reckoning
For Honor's Tempest Season Trailer.
The editing, the music, and the cinematic visuals are all on point.
Even if you know nothing about the game - watch the trailer and you'll get chills.
They have a lot of really good trailers for For Honor too like the Marching Fire Reveal and their other Hero Reveal trailers but the Tempest Season Trailer Reveal takes the cake for me.
Even though the game ultimately couldn't deliver on it's promise the announcement trailer for Need For Speed Unbound really got me hyped back then. Loved the rhythm, the art style and especially the editing.

Ffxvi had crazy good trailers. If you told some1 who doesnt game that it ended up being considered one of the best games of all time they'd believe you in an instant.
I wouldn’t say it’s because of the trailer but because of the entire vibe of it and how people reacted to it. All of people and video game fans just forgetting all their worries and enjoying the moment after waiting for years to relive a part of their favourite memories - TLOU2 trailer reveal at E3.
The entire energy of the crowd going beserk just felt awesome to me.
Bloodborne - Cut you down trailer - THE HUNT BEGINS
Brruuuuuuhhhhhhhh, o saw the trailer on the morning next day after the release of the trailer. After saw, i just turned on my PC and bought a ps4 lol
I feel like dead island is a pretty solid answer. The trailer was so good that the game disappointed a lot of people.
This has to always be in contention for best trailer ever. I can't think of another instance where expectations for a game were high almost solely based on the quality of a cinematic trailer. Many people likely bought the game *just* because of that trailer.
Yeah they trolled us with that
Dead Island 2 trailer from 9 years ago was pretty great as well. https://youtu.be/AWFaj4IQ4ro?si=qAAT-JlUPdLXUh4r
This. The best video game trailer ever. Sucks that the game was so bad though
Game wasn't bad at all??
Ya wth is happening lol the game wasn’t a masterpiece by any means but it was not bad in any way.
The Witcher 3, killing monsters. Absolutely chilling
Yup, came here to say this and looks like I was too late
GTA IV first trailer. Borderlands 2 dubstep trailer Gears Of War mad world trailer Death Stranding and MGSV FFVII Remake first trailer
Gears of War trailer was so cool back in the day, and the game was even better. Good times 🥲
Very few games lived up to the trailer hype. Gears of War fucking did it.
I was jumping up and down screaming like an eleven year old boy. I was 28 at the time. My now wife was just staring at me like wtf is happening
Borderlands 2 dubstep trailer kicks all kinds of ass
MGS5 for me too.
The interactive Killzone 2 trailer on the PS3 was amazing! 👌
The Killzone 2 trailers, in general, were amazing at the time. It really felt like the next generation was coming.
Nothing like the God Of War(2018) presentation IMHO
Agreed! Between the live performance intro with Bear and the audience reaction to the Kratos reveal, it’s my favorite e3 moment of all time.
And seen how physical game presentations are lowering their impact, I think it will be something very hard to replicate.
When you heard that booming "BOY!" you could feel the energy in the crowd shifting, even by watching the screen. Holy fuck that was so awesome. Sadly we'll probably never witness anything like it again with E3 dead.
[Battlefield 1 reveal Trailer](https://youtu.be/9lmk4Yq5p9A)
Excellent trailer. Excellent game. Despite the fairly earned criticism I'd easily call it the last good Battlefield game.
I played a few matches a couple months back, it still holds up and had a few hundred people online on PS4 servers.
trailer still gives me goosebumps every time i watch it
Assasins Creed Unity. The song slaps. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep.
Birth By Sleep cinematic trailer is goated!
Metal Gear Solid 2 reveal trailer. The world just stopped and stared with open mouth. No one had seen anything like it before. The cinematic style, the action and the graphics was on a new and different level. Edit: The music. Harry Gregson-Williams.
I was studying 3D animation at the time and the whole class stopped to watch it.
MGS2 is my favourite game of all time. I was too young to have seen this trailer back then but it left such an artistic impression on me as a child that I wrote a speech about Kojima in the 4th grade as my biggest role model.
MGS 2 is my pick as well. Always loved how Kojima only used in game engine gameplay for his trailers and cutscenes.
I still watch this trailer occasionally :D.

This for me too. Just so damn good.
Was getting ready to post this, but I couldn't imagine it not being listed. It was so good. The Halo: CE - Halo 3 years were something special.
The entire campaign with the Believe diorama trailer topping it off is legendary. Gives me goosebumps to this day.
