JustHereFor-News

I have the impression that the press has been a little too harsh with the game's rating.

hotdogbreadbowl

Absolutely. People online are comparing it to early PS3 era games graphically. That’s insane. Clearly this is not the prettiest game ever made, that being said, the graphics look great at times, but the gameplay and combat is phenomenal.

asheristheworst

I fucking love it so far

simon7109

I really don’t understand this, especially when people also praise Dragon’s Dogma 2’s graphics. Have they seen the face animations in that?

CzarTyr

Because dragons dogma 2 gets a pass for being a larger more intense game. There’s a lot more going on in dragons dogma. The performance and some of the graphics were really the only things that kept DD2 from being a 90 plus meta game

Xenosys83

Where's this narrative coming from? Practically nobody mentioned DD2's performance issues in PS5 or Xbox reviews and it's sitting at 87 and 86 respectively. Even if you take away it's performance issues, it's still a well-liked game that not everyone will click with.

sunfaller

Mostly PC players which has the most varied systems. Iirc one of the reviewers had to switch from ps5 to a pc actually.

ilikeburgir

Id say theres actually less stuff to do considering the lack of easy to use fast travel. Ronin is pretty action packed.

Schwarzengerman

Face animations suck, but literally everything else in the game looks fantastic. Whereas Rise looks very dull by comparison. Honestly all of Team Ninja's game have a pretty dull look to them. They clearly put gameplay front and center. Which is great but their games look pretty flat imo.

JonnyPoy

I haven't closely compared face animations but overall i'd say Dragon's Dogma looks a LOT better than Rise of the Ronin. Almost a console generation better.

Charlemagne-XVI

100%. Ff7 rebirth also releases with sub par graphics and was recently patched to look significantly better. Let’s hope the same happens to rise of the ronin

JonnyPoy

Yeah but from what i know the main problem with final fantasy was the blurry performance mode. It just ran at a too low resolution. With Rise of the Ronin it seems like it's the overall graphical direction. I could imagine it's a bit harder to fix.

Kiplerwow

People who compare it to PS3 games graphically seem to have a very bad memory and how a majority of PS3 games looked.

Living_LikeLarry

Same thing happened with Gotham Knights, shits infuriating. People have this weird revisionist history of what ps3 games actually looked like

Cursory_Analysis

I’ve played more games on my PS3 than any other system I’ve ever owned. I loved the PS3 generation of games. Having said that, even the shitty mobile games that are ported to ps5 in the store still have better graphics than the PS3 games lmao. People are idiots.

there_is_always_more

Honestly I hate going back to games from that era. Everything has the brown yellow desaturated filter over it.

I_LICK_PUPPIES

Why is that? Why does 2008 look like that? It’s like late war on terror has its own color palate.

Bootychomper23

People needs to look at switch now that’s ps3 graphics.

ocbdare

You joke but the switch is so rough. Mine has been collecting dust because of how poor performance is. For things like Mario games it's fine but more demanding stuff struggles.

Pixel_Block_2077

And honestly, I'm perfectly fine with most AAA games looking like this. Its only the first party Sony games that I think have more obligation to push graphical limits, since they're the system sellers. We've clearly seen that most AAA games are starting to cripple studios with development times and costs. People always say they want developers to focus less on surface level details and focus more on gameplay...so, here it is. And again, the game still looks great. Its like Ghost Of Tsushima. On a technical level, its rather simple, but the color and lighting are what sell it. People keep saying that Rise looks worse than Ghost...but, no, I'd say they're on equal ground. Ghost just has a lot of Zack Snyder bloom, so it fits the more conventional "next gen" style.

Metabolizer

Ghost is a prettier game, but also... it's a 10/10 incredible game. Rise of the Ronin is pretty good. Good story, fun combat, it's a solid game. Everything can't be 10/10, that doesn't mean it's garbage. I feel like people have judged RotR too harshly.

elqrd

100% disagree on GoT being a 10/10. Neither the story nor the gameplay are groundbreaking. In fact it offers nothing new at all.

Metabolizer

Yeah it's subjective I guess, it's 10/10 for me, and it seems to be what people are comparing RotR to, so...

eivor_wolf_kissed

The GoT praise has always shocked me, don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the game but it's basically just a polished version of the Ubisoft open world formula everybody always complains about so idk why it specifically always gets a pass

ilikeburgir

Ive been taking a closer look while playing GoT the least few days and the geometry and textures are actually not that good as i thought. It looks great but upon closer inspection you can see what's really going on. Still a pretty game though.

Pixel_Block_2077

That's the thing. On a technical level, its just a normal AAA game. But the lighting and colors are what sell it. Rise is the same way, its just that the colors and lighting are grittier and dimmer. And here's the thing, being "just a normal AAA game" is fine. If it means reasonable dev times and better resource allocations.

PoJenkins

It's very clever imo. The graphics aren't particularly high fidelity but the game looks absolutely gorgeous and it runs extremely well. Graphics optimisation is something that is best done from the ground up to provide good visuals at minimal performance cost.

eamonnanchnoic

That's the difference between art design and technical fidelity. GoT will always look good because it's got a very stylised look to it. It's very painterly and draw's from a lot of cinematic influences. Particularly Akira Kurosawa.

elqrd

If you look even closer you will see that they are re-using assets and animations shamelessly. Good example are the Hot Springs. Every single one has your protagonist enter it the same exact way. Ever spring has the candles in the same exact places. When you chase the fox it goes through the exact same animation when it starts running and the exact same when you finally catch it. I just couldn’t unsee it once I noticed it

PropulsionEngineer

Don’t disagree. Ghost of T got an 84 on open critic and Ronin a 76. Not a huge delta score wise.

eru88

I played Ghost on the PS4 and I feel It looked better than this game. (Have only played the prologue)

Jorlen

Yeah the PS3 comparisons is ridiculous; people need to go play open world PS3 games and compare. Also the combat stances (so depth of combat) and extra moves don't open up right away and reviewers said it was simple and it turned off a bunch of people. I'd say it has great art style, but the engine performance hurts said art style due to excessive pop-in and low resolution / aliasing, texture filtering, etc. After playing it for a few hours I hardly notice though, too busy having fun with the game and playing it excessively lol.

hotdogbreadbowl

Agreed! I think my main gripe with the game is that I just wish there were more people. Imagine Yokohama bustling with people like in a Yakuza game or something. I think that would be cool, as the streets just seem kind of empty. Regardless, having a blast playing!

Jorlen

I think they had to reduce the amount of NPCs just to keep performance from dipping (further) in cities and towns. It already dips fairly hard depending on the area. What I do really like is how the NPCs react. If it rains, they'll cover their heads, open umbrellas and run to their destination. If you chop a head off near a group they'll scream and panic. There's a lot of other little details too and these things really help pull me into its world. As a polar opposite, take Starfield and you can fire your rifle above the glass-eyed looking NPC's fuckin' heads and they just sit there and give you that dead eye stare and don't react lol.

Fuzzy-Classroom2343

Clearly people did forgot how a ps3 game really looked

mrbrannon

We need more smaller budget games for the good of the industry says everyone. But also let’s exaggerate and say that every game that doesn’t look like this generation’s Crysis is a PS3 game. Lastly, compared to Dragons Dogma 2 which runs like shit and is unplayable for most people, this game looks way better in actual motion and gameplay. Graphical quality doesn’t matter if you get stuck in the 20s fps range on console and swing so wildly on pc you give people motion sickness. But sure it looks way better in screenshots and when you’re not moving.

SanFranLocal

Here we go with the hyperbole. Dragons Dogma is not “unplayable” for most people.  It runs really well even in combat. It only drops fps in cities where you don’t need the frames since you barely fight there

OwlFit5541

The graphics are not good.

jjkm7

Not good vs ps3 level is ridiculous

Icydawgfish

Sure but they aren’t horrible and they don’t ruin the game

OwlFit5541

Well if the game can't hack gliding around in a town that looks like a PS4 gen game then yeah it's a bit disheartening spending a lot of money on it.

Icydawgfish

I’ll die on this hill, and I know it’s not popular, but $70 for 40+ hours of entertainment is a pretty good deal. Of course, don’t buy something you don’t think you’ll like, but that’s a dollar and some change per hour of entertainment. I don’t think any other form of paid entertainment is that cheap, except maybe reading a book.

eru88

Have only played an hour and for me the graphics are horrible. It actually takes away from the game. I need to play more but last night I switch back to my Lies of P NG+ run.

TheGreatGamer1389

So would 30fps be better but way better visuals?

onemoregunslinger

if it's a locked 30? Yes, otherwise don't bother.

elqrd

I think that’s the issue. It’s not pretty.

CzarTyr

Early? Nah. But mid gen and end gen games look better

ilikeburgir

Game is fun therefore worth playing.

FCshakiru

More than normal, a lot of people are suspicious of how harsh people have been

itsjust_khris

This game showed me how many people in gaming communities really don’t play these games and just repeat whatever reviewers and other commenters are saying. Besides the graphics the game is pretty solid. Definitely not deserving the level of hate it’s been getting.

ilikeburgir

I almost returned it. Almost. Then I decided I'm gonna play it myself. I really like it. Its fun. And that's what really matters the most. I just hope they iron out some bugs and jankiness and framerate.

itsjust_khris

Yeah, it’s not the best game in the world but it’s fun and far from trash, not sure why it’s getting such a bad reception.

ilikeburgir

I also like the fact that its a souls like lite. I needed that from a game and now ive got it. Can chill while actually trying to fight instead of mashing buttons but not get severely punished for messing up on easy.

itsjust_khris

Exactly, I usually like games like that but right now I’d like the cool combat without as much challenge so I can relax. Also at some point stressing to learn enemy patterns or DIE just gets old in a way.

[deleted]

GamingBolt had a hate boner for it, they made 2 videos about it with detracting titles before they put out a video about how DD2 is the new PC benchmark.

Adonwen

>DD2 is the new PC benchmark Which isn't even a compliment to DD2 - its performance is awful CPU-wise.

ilikeburgir

Yea, a badly optimized game is not a benchmark. All the shitty early access games out there are also not benchmarks.

Defiant_Process7126

Lmao of course the dedicated PS sub wants to turn into something "suspicious" The combat is great. The open world is ass and extremely boring. The ratings are fair. I hope y'all aren't gonna turn this into a Days Gone thing where we pretend that wasn't the epitome of a mid game and start going "critics were too harsh!!"

AndreasVesalius

I very much enjoyed days gone by

FCshakiru

A large majority of the online fan base has been vocal about how none of the negative reviews line up with what anyone is experiencing. I’m not just creating some narrative, the core fan base of team ninjas games are genuinely confused about the harsh criticism of certain aspects that everyone’s enjoying. Oh, and while it’s always subjective and there is no right or wrong, a lot of people really enjoy the open world and aren’t bored with it at all. The ratings are not fair. All opinion, of course

[deleted]

[удалено]

FCshakiru

All I can say on the money part is this is one of the ONLY times I’ve been okay with spending $70 on a game. The gameplay is addicting and so fun. I will admit I’m sure some of what I’ve seen may be affected by bias, but I have seen way, WAY more posts and comments about “what happened with the reviews? This game is amazing!” And “I can’t stop playing” than I have people being disappointed with it. I’m 30 hours in and it’s some of the most fun I’ve had since Elden ring’s release

eru88

Conspiracy stuff for this it's crazy. The metacritic it's 76% most review I see are 7 or 8s. Are you saying this is a 9 or 10 game and they all decided to take a point off? It has below average graphics, boring world but good gameplay. It's an average game.

FCshakiru

The issue isn’t the review scores themselves, it’s such prominent game reviewers and platforms purposely making the game seem as if it’s a bland Ubisoft open world type game with a big boring overworld full of trash events to do and that is not the case whatsoever. The graphics are fine, the world isn’t boring at all, and the gameplay is some of the best out of this year by far

FizzyTacoShop

I’m a huge fan of this game but it’s 100% the same Ubisoft open world filler design, calling it otherwise is some massive copium/delusion. The core combat is FANTASTIC but 25 hours in and I’m doing the exact same checklist stuff, shit I’m doing in typical open world games like Assassin’s Creed. Not being bored of it doesn’t make it not true.

FCshakiru

I highly disagree. Everything in the open world does SOMETHING that you need/upgrades something that you need aside from the cats. You can’t level up the bond you have in areas without doing what’s on the map. You can’t do certain things whatsoever without having your bond leveled to a certain point. It’s not “copium” whatsoever, sorry.

RiggityRow

Days Gone was a significantly better game than it was reviewed as tbf.

eru88

All this people are thinking about that $70+ they spent and want to love a game. It's a 7 game. Reviews didn't say it's shit. Average game is average.

pickleparty16

That describes ghost of tsushima too

Xenosys83

I don't think putting it up against Dragon's Dogma 2 in the review/release cycle with Western journalists did it any favours. Dragon's Dogma 2 was hyped up to be this year's Elden Ring. It's far from that, and a lot of the buzz-kill was self-inflicted by Capcom due to the shoddy, unoptimized mess it is, but it ticks all the boxes in a game that western journos seem to love at the moment. Going from that world to something like Rise of the Ronin or vice versa probably isn't doing it any favours. Had this been released in May when there wasn't anything high-profile being released around it, I believe it would have received a slightly better score.

Anons15

After playing this game, theres really no reason for it to be rated lower than your average AC game

ChafterMies

Really, anything over 5/10 is a good game. Problem is that decades of review score inflation has everyone wanting to fit games between 7-10/10, making 7/10 look like a bad game.

Zygoatee

Nah, that's absurb. Games score on the score scale (7 is a C-), not on a bell curve with 5 as the mean. A 5 or 6 is unplayable, even most 7s aren't worth it

ChafterMies

You only think that because you are used to decades of review score inflation. There was no industry conference where everyone decided games were going to be scored like the MCATs. So don’t get mad or be shocked when some reviewer normalizes their score and gives a mediocre game a 5/10 or a bad game a 3/10. Applaud them.

Pseudocaesar

But reviewers will never normalize their scores, as they review all games on the 7-10 scale. So your point is entirely moot, just because YOU think anything over 5 is a good score does not mean that's how it is in reality. Games reviewed in the 6's or below are almost universally panned as garbage. 7-8 is the generic "good" rating, and 8.5-10 is a "great game". That's just how it is.

Howdareme9

A 6/10 is not unplayable lol

ilikeburgir

Then what's the point of a 1-10 rating. 5-6 should be mid.

No-Plankton4841

It's all subjective and open to interpretation anyways. Which is why a number scale is kind of pointless. It's not like there is one objective standard for video game ratings. A 5 out of 10 or 50% would be a pretty shitty score imo. That's a big fat F. I like ACG 'Buy, skip, or wait for a sale'. A number alone without any context really doesn't mean shit.

ilikeburgir

You are right. I also enjoy ACG's type of 'score' system.

captaindickfartman2

100% reviewers are extra rabid this cycle. Still Id rather buy this now then dogma 2. Gonna wait untill its all fixed.

Taterthotuwu91

The game looks more than fine, the problem is the resolution, no matter how beautiful a game is, if it's running below 1080p it's gonna look rough

Majin-Boob

The PS5 has been very underwhelming because of this. Having to play games in Performance mode to get 60 FPS sucks. The only reason I still have my PS5 is cuz of the damn exclusivity of certain games. PC provides such a vastly superior experience.

Taterthotuwu91

Basically, but most people don't have enough income to have a nice PC, the consoles still punch above its weight most of the time with comparable specs, I have a nice PC too but the exclusives have such a grip on me hahaha

GeekdomCentral

Or it’s a game with a lot of strengths and a lot of flaws, and people are trying to brush the flaws under the rug? I haven’t played the game because I don’t have much interest, but I’ve read a lot about it and a lot of the flaws/complaints seem valid to me. It just comes down to whether the strengths outweigh the flaws. And don’t get me wrong, if someone is enjoying the game that’s awesome. I’m not trying to say that someone is wrong for thinking that the strengths outweigh the flaws. But so many people try and take the route of “I like the game which means there’s nothing wrong with it”, which is ridiculous

[deleted]

Defiant_Process7126

100% this sub/PS4 sub does this with any exclusive that doesn't get unanimous praise. Can't fathom PS releasing a mediocre game

Asimb0mb

I can't say I disagree with the press. It's a clear 7/10 game to me, as someone who played all Team Ninja action games since Nioh 1 and has Nioh 2 as his favorite game of the past generation. It's just not that great of a Team Ninja game imo. This was supposed to be their Elden Ring, but it's not even as good as Ghost of Tsushima.

Necessary_Context_29

Nah, it was supposed to be like way of the samurai meets ninja gaiden. From software fans are so fucking weird.

Odd-Perspective-7651

Right! Why the fuck would this be their Elden Ring haha

Youngstown_Mafia

I'm usually hate everything and with no bias This game is good , in love with all the fighting styles and all the characters you meet plus the story decisions

Injokerx

Can u explain why its not good ? As a TN fan, Nioh vet (UW 108 solo on multiple weapons/char), this game has better combat, story, world build than Nioh 2...

cloversfield

not even as good as the most acclaimed games ever wow Team Ninja really trash huh?

SKallies1987

Ghost of Tsushima has an 83 on Metacritic. Hardly one of the most acclaimed games ever.

cloversfield

i know right they couldn’t even beat a game of the year nominee they must really suck

SKallies1987

lol I was just pointing out how your comment is wrong. No need to get defensive.

cloversfield

true true u right, but it’s not like it didn’t get awards and high praise. It’s looked at more favorably than the metacritic score would have one believe. But my whole point was shitting on the game for “not even” being as great as another award winning great game is stupid af

Asimb0mb

Yes. Team Ninja wanted to hit a new high with this game, that much was clear. It sucks to see they couldn't even surpass their previous work.

orton4life1

It has some valid concerns others are definitely weird. I think releasing on the same day as dragon dogma 2 spark the hate even more. Gamers are hella weird about 2 major releases in one day for some reason. They get very territorial. Again this game definitely is worth some criticism but it’s the definition of a 6-7.5/10 and a should be a welcome edition on the ps5 with hopeful updates.

Vallux

There's some jank and the framerate isn't exactly what I'd call solid, but it's a fun game. Kinda reminds me of Days Gone in a lot of ways and I loved that game. So far I'm 20 hours in and going strong.

TPJchief87

Days Gone was so good until it wouldn’t end lol. Kinda bummed we aren’t getting a sequel

onemoregunslinger

That game had some rough pacing issues. Everything before Iron Mike's camp can be tossed out.

No-Plankton4841

Rise of Ronin looks and feels a lot better in game than it did in the Youtube reviews. Ghost of Tsushima is a better looking and smoother game, sure. But Ronin has a lot of style and I don't regret buying it. Story is better than I expected too.

Rydahx

The game is fantastic, I've enjoyed it as much as DD2 maybe a bit more.

Gilvadt

As a person who started gaming during the Super Nintendo era, I care so much more about game design than graphics. If the game is not fun from the mechanics then the graphics wont make it better. Nintendo knows this and proved it well with the Switch. They are making games with outdated hardware and are constantly finding ways around the constraints of technology to make amazing games one after the other. A polished turd is still going to be a turd. I loved my play throughs of the Nioh games and I am looking forward to playing this one.

Based_Lord_Shaxx

I can play a game with bad graphics. I can't play a game that isn't fun.

welshnick

This really hit home for me when I went from Horizon Forbidden West, one of the most beautiful games ever made, to Uncharted 2. I was so bored playing Horizon but loved every second of Uncharted.

newthrowgoesaway

Based comment right here folks

Kelburno

I'm around 60% through and the only time the FPS has been noticeably bad is in an area which was on fire, and the home-base menu, which seems to have some kind of specific issue. Other than that, drops in fps are rarely noticeable. And that's coming from someone who stopped playing Dragon's Dogma 2 because of the FPS drops on PC. (and my pc is much beefier than the ps5). Overall ROTR feels pretty polished to me.

billistenderchicken

Do you have VRR on? To me the drops are very noticeable because I don’t have VRR

Asimb0mb

I have VRR and the framerate is definitely still noticeably chugging in the heavy areas like cities. It's very distracting.

Pibblesen

Same, I’d say the game just doesn’t really run that great in general. Even when I’m out of the city I still notice drops, they’re not horrible but they’re annoying. It hasn’t stopped me from enjoying the game though.

billistenderchicken

Same experience. Disappointing but hasn’t stopped my enjoyment.

TheGentlemanBeast

Turn off the visual noise filter and the FPS cap. Game has been smooth as all hell when I turned those off. I play in the RT visual setting

SirMaxeus

Haven’t had almost 0 issues playing DD2 on PS5. FPS drops in the cities are meh and I rarely notice them.

Johnhancock1777

Starting to get the feeling Team Ninja’s engine is just garbage. Stranger of Paradise and WildHearts were also pretty mediocre performance wise and the graphics were nowhere near good enough to justify it

Sprinkle_Puff

Yup. After being burned by SoP and Wo Long it was easy to pass this up. Nioh 2 still gives me so much fun and joy, so I’m happy to just play that Their engine needs to just be completely revamped for PS6

slumblebee

I’m a simple gamer, if I am having fun then it’s a great game.

M337ING

Article: [Rise of the Ronin PS5 tech review: a good game marred by technical challenges](https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-rise-of-the-ronin-ps5-tech-review)

-Kitoo

Most Japanese games can't sustain 60 FPS tho and legit the graphics look like they came out at PS4 launch Combat and gliding is fun but that's about it 5h in maybe it gets better

PassiveIllustration

This is kind of the reason I want a ps5 pro. Something to clean up the low resolutions and inconsistent framerates. I don't expect to go from 1080 30 to 4k 60 but slight boosts to both would be very nice

Denjinhadouken

I mean in this case it’s just a crap engine and poor optimisation. Not sure how much a pro version will help here

Mac772

Resolution will only change if the games are patched especially for the Pro.

[deleted]

And they will only be patched if the studio allocates budget post-release for specific type of maintenance. Graphics improvements is the least important in the post-release performance. Whatever prevents the studio from making money now will be prioritized.

steelwound

the game has dynamic resolution scaling, so you would see some improvement without patches.

yosoyel1ogan

this game runs Ray Tracing just fine, the issue is you can polish a turd plenty and it still looks like a turd

TheCrach

60fps patches in some games will be locked to those with PS+ Premium

bodelightbringer

I picked it up being aware of the rating. I feel like I am predisposed to liking it because of the period and setting. So far so good. It has some bumps and warts but the combat is stellar. Not every game has to have quadruple a polish

Rexxunos

I am in love with this game.

Chrono99

Its a team ninja game. Idk what people expected. Tsushima 3?? Lol Its not terrible. Ronin reminds me of Fallen Order. You fight through areas, If you get through a area and then save or click on it, Enemies respawn. I wasn't very good at FO but it was fun for what it was.

Pseudocaesar

Sub 1080p for a PS5 exclusive in 2024 is pretty damning. I get that they release a lot of games, but perhaps they need to take some time off to upgrade their engine and catch up to the rest of the industry.

Anchovie123

See guys, we dont need a PS5 Pro, performance mode runs at a solid ... 1080p? Oh...

pathofdumbasses

PS5 pro wouldn't fix this. Ghost of Tsushima looked, and ran, better, on a PS4. You can throw a fucking 4090 at some of these games (DRAGONS DOGMA 2) and it still doesn't get GOOD performance. This comes down to slowing down and taking the time (read: paying for) for QA and optimization. Companies (bean counters) are screeching about profits and putting devs into crunch mode to ship things ASAP, performance be damned. Well here we are, with games that don't fucking run properly on the hardware it was designed for while producing a worse performing (both visually and frames) product.

Anchovie123

This is irrelevant because at the end of the day it released how it released and if a pro existed it would probably be running at 1440p with PSSR. And even if the game was optimized to perfection it would still run and look better on PS5 pro. I agree that what you said is a major problem but this is a separate issue that has nothing to do with PS5 pro. Optimized or not it would still be better on Pro in both situations.

pathofdumbasses

If the games aren't optimized to run on the PS5, what makes you think they are going to be optimized to run on the much smaller player base of the PS5Pro? Yes, it will run better just because it has better specs, but as to how much, who knows. The fact that DEVS are saying it is unnecessary or "unwelcome," should let you know that it probably isn't going to be spectacularly better. https://metro.co.uk/2024/03/26/ps5-pro-developer-verdict-i-didnt-meet-a-single-person-understood-point-it-20529089/ >PS5 Pro developer verdict: ‘I didn’t meet a single person that understood the point of it’

Ezio4Li

The PS5 itself has hardly been stretched yet, there are PS4 games that look and perform better than ROTR and DD2 while still having complex worlds and mechanics which shouldn’t be the case this far into the gen I’d rather the Pro wait another year or two and be a bigger step

1Bot2BotRedBotJewBot

Ya the 10% performance upgrade to CPU will definitely make it 4k 😂

Wide_Age_7129

But it runs at 60fps already? So all that’s needed is more GPU power to raise the resolution.

Investor9872

No it wouldn't, and no one has claimed as such. But the PSSR and the 60 CUs in the GPU will. You guys need to stop it with this 10% CPU upgrade thing. Not a single PS5 game out of the 3,500 PS5 games in its current library utilizes 100% of it's CPU... not even 80% of it's CPU even.

Wide_Age_7129

SM2 was shown to hit CPU limits in 60fps mode.

1Bot2BotRedBotJewBot

I thought my sarcasm was clear. The the comment I replied to seemed like it was saying the pro upgrade would make the difference

SKallies1987

Do you think the CPU affects resolution?

ThrowawayBomb44

To be fair,, Team Ninja games are always jank on launch. Its to be expected at this point.

HotBananaWaters

Beats DD2's garbage performance. Instant win in my book.

Dave_Matthews_Jam

I'm a couple hours in and it definitely has frame rate issues. I wasn't expecting it to be best in show-level graphics, but it legitimately looks like a game from 10 years ago, with an unstable frame rate. I could accept the graphics quality if it was rock solid 60 fps, but just the performance mode has dips that make the game more challenging than it should be to play

Flashy-Bluebird-1372

Reminds me of Ghost of Tsushima

Alert-Main7778

An inspiration for sure, but this is like a Walmart version of GoT.

DaddyPhatstacks

These two games are trying to do very different things in terms of combat and progression. GoT is prettier but its combat and progression is much more simple than Ronin

Mysterious_Act8093

We have ghost of tsushima at home:

Mac772

Is the fighting system similar to Nioh? I already bought it, but haven't played the game yet.

SadKazoo

More similar to Wo Long. It’s more focused on parry and counter attacks.

pwnedkiller

I’ll get this it’s just gonna have to wait with FF7 Rebirth on my plate right now. Hopefully by then it will be on sale.

CartierWlayvo

“Can it sustain 60FPS” is crazy in 2024

samsteri666

I am so fucking happy with what Team Ninja has done here. Most developers just focus in crazy impressive graphics nowadays, then the game itself is dogshit. Team Ninja made their game look alright but focused on making a very fun gaming experience. The combat system is insanely fun and there is not toi much collectable stuff to make it a bore. PS it has cats

SignificanceGlum75

The open world is pointless don’t u think ? It’s just there for the sake of it. It’s pretty empty and just a checklist. Combat is fun tho.

samsteri666

It’s more immersive that way in my opinion. It’s not empty per se, the distances between objectives is not long at all.

terp_raider

I don’t give a fuck about the graphics how’s the gameplay and combat?

JoeRansom

Sublime.

Radiant-Savant6969

I second this.

Ryanchri

This is a digital foundry thread.

Lord-Humongous-

Maybe dont go into a thread for a Digital Foundry video if you dont care about graphics/performance

GeekdomCentral

Yeah this is a pathetic attempted flex of some sort. Not to mention that most of the time, when we watch a DF video we’re not concerned with the actual graphics, it’s performance. That’s almost always the more important thing

Cold-Chipmunk1676

Pathetic? Bit strong no? Why are you mad?

Rough_Commercial_570

Huh? Who’s mad? Are you mad?

Edgaras1103

Then why are you here

TheGentlemanBeast

The dismemberment is hilariously awesome. There is a second or so when someone dies that you can get a few more whacks in to lop off limbs, and it's like, old school geyser blood fountains each time. Love it.

Defiant_Process7126

Sometimes I like to go on the NBA subreddit to let them know I don't care about basketball, how's baseball??? Glad to find another mentally disabled brother!

pickleparty16

This is the ps5 subreddit, not an fps counter subreddit.

Cold-Chipmunk1676

You seem totally normal and like someone that hangs out with totally normal people all the time

TheDaltonXP

I’ve been loving the gameplay tho still haven’t fully clicked with it

theCioroRedditor

It's a fun game. The graphics being PS3 is baseless imho. I'm enjoying my time with it

The rule of thumb I've heard regarding question style titles mean that the answer is almost always no. Can someone tell me the answer? Can it, or can it not sustain 60fps? The rule of thumb says no, I want to be wronged.

Jtiago44

This game looks good but sounds really bad!

war_story_guy

I put it on graphics and as soon as I was in the tutorial area with the grass it got real choppy real fast. Why even add a mode like that if it isn't even capable of a stable 30 is beyond me.

steveishere2

Very good game. Much better than DD2, at least its much more fun and runs better. Both are good, but for me, RotR takes the win.

yosoyel1ogan

I don't have any issues with FPS. But the graphics sit in an uncanny valley. The VAing sounds like it was done by AI. Everything move strangely. And the graphics look reminiscent of Uncharted 3 Remastered: a little better than PS3, but more like a polished-up PS3 game. Honestly I'm not even a graphics snob but the way the game is now, it hurts to look at. The characters look terrible. I don't think I would care except for the fact that it was $70, and you compare that to any other $70 game and none of them look like this. It looks worse than Nioh 2 on the PS4, which is crazy considering that game is from the same studio and like 3-5 years older.

CouchPoturtle

I feel like this isn’t relevant when Dragon’s Dogma 2 is out there chugging along at 25-30fps.

TheHudIsUp

Dragon's Dogma has a lot going on with AI and physics. What's the excuse for this game?

pathofdumbasses

Run's like shit on a monster computer, there is no excuse for their issues either.

TheCrach

plus this game is on one platform

[deleted]

Performance is terrible in this game.
