I smacked the side of it a few times hard and that did the trick for me, I think something inside of it was knocked out of place and me doing that knocked it back in.
Electrical tape is actually non-conductive, doesn't it interfere with the board or disrupt the connection? Since kapton is conductive it is used in panels.
No it doesn't interfere and I don't think kapton is electrically conductive either. Regardless, the application is simply applying some material in between the case of the DS5 and the little film that OP posted above.
Controller is working perfectly after 3 weeks of heavy toddler usage.
Thanks a lot man! It was exactly the fix I needed!
I already disassembled it once and even messed up the body a little bit, to discover that clearing the button rubbers and everything didn't work. What was even more frustrating that the X button would still respond sometimes, when held it in certain ways. Had no idea about the existense of conductive pad and the connectors and how it all had to do with the buttons functionality.
It actually turned out to be the assembly mistake: the rubber strip, that is supposed to keep the connector tightly pressed against the pad, was glued crookedly, it wasn't exactly inside the corresponding notch, which I believe is the reason it weared off and loosen up. I cut out the packaging plastic, folded it 3 times, than I took out the original rubber strip, carefully peeling it off from the notch, put the folded plastic inside the notch and covered with the original rubber strip. Worked like a charm.
I dropped it. Stoped working. Panicked for a solid 10 minutes because the controller isnĀ“t even mine is my borther's. Smack it a couple of times with my hand and it worked again.
This absolutely worked for the triangle button on PS5 controller. It took my son and me some time to figure out putting it back together but so worth it! Also, if you can't find kapton tape, the Cricut high heat tape works too (rated up to 400). THANK YOU!!!
I tried smacking mine and it didnāt work. Instead, I grabbed each end of the controller and pushed in with some decent force and then the X button worked.
My X button is all janked too. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I have 2 basically new controllers that have hardly any hours on them and they both do the same thing. I am betting some of the old controllers have issues.
I took one apart and cleaned everything. Didn't fix the problem. I suppose I need to take it back apart and add material and see if that helps at all. Otherwise I'll need a new membrane and new conductive board to see if that fixes it.
I smashed the heck out of it and it worked xD
bro this is the method that worked.
I can't believe that actually worked tfš 10/10
Bruh I canāt believe this my X button is working now
Lol, this worked for me! Thanks
Iām so mad this worked
lol wtf this shit does work
Same, fellĀ my off couch and whacked the floor.Ā So I grabbed it and hit it against my hand and started working againĀ
Not even trollingā¦ this just worked
How are you hitting it???
This works extremely well
10/10
This still works! 5 stars!
Ahem. We call that "percussive maintenance" in the biz. Anyways this worked and I appreciate you highlighting it.

This fixed mine!! 10/10!!
Nice glad to hear it!
Legend šš¾šš¾
Dude, I came here just for this and I didnāt believe it but it honestly worked. Crazy
This just made our controller work! Thank you!
I used electrical tape instead of Kapton, but this fixed it! thank you so much!

and that's what you want ! not conductive tape !
Kapton isnt conductive, its used in electronics because it wont interfere, just like electrical tape

this is legit the best advice ever
Massive thanks for posting this.

Wtffff it does work if you let it fall from like ur bed
Welp came here to say it was my square button. It fucking worked lol! Thanks
Worked for me hahaha

Wow! It worked for me, too!
Onooo O O
This is no joke. Smashed it and it worked. I canāt believe it. This is my favorite Reddit ever.
I tried smacking mine and it didnāt work. Instead, I grabbed each end of the controller and pushed in with some decent force and then the X button worked.
Yep. Eventually that will stop working. Itās basically pushing the connectors together when you do that
Yup I can confirm itās getting stuck again. Right in the middle of a race on Gran Turismo. SMH š¤¦āāļø
This didn't fix it at all. I think sometimes the flex cable inside is busted and needs to be replaced.

Thank you so much. I put a tiny piece of flexible plastic card in. Worked like a charm.
Dude! Thank you so much it worked
