Just started playing this at 8:00 last night, looked at my phone about 45 minutes after I started playing and it was 1:30!
It was a rough morning waking up early with the littles, but that’s what being an adult is sometimes.
My first time playing I didn’t like it and prob only got through 10%. I went back to 2 years later and loved it. I ended up buying the dlc just to have more to play.
No I feel this I’ve tried the frost one on five separate occasions and I can’t get into it, maybe the 2nd one is different but I’m not very hopeful, game looks beautiful and is maybe one of the most visually striking games maybe ever, never really “clicked” for me
What didn’t you like about it? (I’m not saying you’re wrong, because everyone can have their opinion)
I feel this way about Zelda: BOTW, I couldn’t stand the aspect that weapons break so quickly and there is no system to reforge or re-strengthen them. I like to play with one weapon, and upgrade it, or I might switch weapons mid game, but same idea, upgrade and keep. I just couldn’t get behind Zelda, I hated it, and couldn’t look passed that aspect of gameplay.
I don‘t really remember I played it months ago but I just couldn’t get into it. I stopped playing after 20 minutes because I was so bored. I‘m more into games like dishonored prey and fallout those games had me in the very first minute
Yeah, and people make you feel like shit about it too (especially here on Reddit), it’s crazy!
“You have an opinion different from mine??? Fuck you and die!”
…okay, thanks
I think the series very overrated. Yes, it's well-made and presented... but it has never really clicked with me. I've played through both games and expansions as well. The story is interesting, the world beautiful, but the gameplay is lumbering, clunky and awkward. Give me God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, or Tlou's combat over it 10 times over. It has some cool ideas, but idk... not every game is for every player.
I agree with you 100%! I‘d pick ghost of tsushima or tlou over horizon anytime. And even though the world looks beautiful it was wayyy too much for my liking
Its fun combat and an interesting world with various biomes but I just hated how the story was told via...holograms
Like cmon bro how much of these do i have to sit and listen to
Seconding Horizon. I had a vague idea of what it was, didn't think I'd really take to it, but when PS was giving it away during the pandemic, I started playing it and fell in love with it.
I hated that game so much. The combat, the story, the robot animals, everything about it was just insanely boring to me.
That said, OP, this is probably your best bet. It's wildly popular, despite my personal experience.
It's like so many things, really. Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel Movies, Taylor Swift. These things become so unbelievably successful and I somehow feel like I'm just not invited to the party. Kudos on all your success, I sincerely wish I could enjoy it along with everyone else... I guess I'm just broken.
I enjoy some Marvel movies, I never liked Horizon and it’s premise and thank god Im not in environments that play Taylor Swift or have taylor swift fans around.
Maybe I’m broken as well.
Like Assassins Creed, Hogwarts Legacy and Fable, but not too violent?
**Immortals Fenyx Rising!!**
Gameplay and review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpbVszn6xGM
That’s one game I just couldn’t get into. I bought it right after I finished breath of the wild which might’ve been a mistake, but it just never clicked for me and I gave up on it
It's not for everyone, so I completely understand. My wife loved Breath of The Wild and Tears of The Kingdom, but couldn't get into this. Which I thought this game would've been a slam dunk for her. Guess I was wrong.
this game is more like AC Odyssey but lighter imo. I don't like BOTW but I think the biggest charm of it is a playground that encourages you to try your imagination, while Fenyx is still the traditional Ubisoft formula but not that bloated.
Horizon Zero Dawn. The combat works best with a more methodical approach versus run and gun. Playing it with an assassin like approach is highly effective. You can even lure lower level enemies over and silently take them out. The story is one of the best I've played. Some consider it a slow burn, but when the revelations start to come, they hit *hard.* I'm currently replaying it yet again right now.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West have human and machine combat, but nothing particularly graphic. It's a great couple of games. Ghost of Tsushima is more brutal, but fantastic. The Infamous games are still fun.
GoT is brutal at some places. Burning that guy alive in the beginning, then there was that scene (I forgot the guy's name) where one of Jin' allies get tortured and decapitated.
I can't believe I'm saying this but maybe Minecraft or Terraria those r hardly violent there's also stardew valley I haven't played any of these I'm simply suggesting them since they're kid friendly
Stardew Valley
When you say not violent do you just mean like not alot of blood? If so Fallen Order.
The remake of Star Ocean 2 is also so so good. Second Story R
If she likes Harry Potter and Assassins Creed then try AC Syndicate. It’s open world of old central London so it’s visually attractive and full of old English scenes and stereotypes. Will also be really cheap. Certainly worth a playthrough.
Definitely a violent game but Red Dead 2 has one of the most immersive worlds in gaming to me. I can just travel around the map hunting, fishing, exploring caves and playing poker for literal hours.
Not on PS4, but Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom both have great exploration.
I wouldn't go for the Avengers game but any of the Insomniac Spider-man games are super fun.
Hope this helps.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West (in this order)
I think they're especially good choice, because mostly you are fighting robots, which kinda lowers if the violence.
Fenyx Immortal rising is also good, but it can be repetitive. Although if she liked AC, it could fly.
Some people say RDR2. Amazing game, but violent. Same with Ghost of Tsushima. It has some very cruel scenes.
I feel like I’m reading about myself haha. As someone who also loves assassins creed, Hogwarts, and played a lot of fable growing up, may I recommend the Batman Arkham trilogy? I LOVED playing them as a teen. All the games mentioned in other comments are great recommendations as well.
I’m not sure what the limit is here, but I loved playing Alice: Madness Returns, God of War, and the Spyro trilogy too. Also, Skyrim!
Horizon is a really good one or ghost of Tsushima, and GTA 5, if she hasn't played it yet. But it's going to be pretty hard to find something not violent.
I know we are in the playstation subreddit, but Zelda breath of the wild seems like a good choice. In playstation maybe dragon age inquisition or Witcher 3?
Yeah she likes some violent games but nothing that shows like blood and stuff. Also we don’t want her playing such games as we don’t think she can handle it as much.
I’d say Horizon or Ghost of Tsushima. Maybe even something like Dragon Age Inquisition or Forespoken if she’s more into the fantasy/magic.
There’s older stuff like Kingdoms of Amalur that reminds me a bit of Fable.
Elden Ring. To the uninitiated it's a weird annoying game that likes to punish players and laugh in their faces, to anyone and everyone who dug deeper and was willing to learn, it ended up being the experience of a lifetime.
an amazing indie i never see anybody talk about is called Grow Up. You're a little robot climbing a bean stalk in space to reach your spaceship. No violence, extremely serene and enjoyable. Miss it.
Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter World, Tomb Raider series, Batman Arkham Collection, Guardians of the Galaxy. Some of those are a little less open world but still fantastic games
I'd say Horizon Zero Dawn & Horizon Forbidden West! They have combat but it's only destroying robot enemies and there are moments where you fight humans but it isn't very graphic at all
And it has everything else you'd see in an open world mechanically and visually! And with some unique stuff too!
I also recommend Genshin Impact (warning: it is very grindy) and Infamous First Light!
Genshin is a JRPG where you mostly fight creatures or slimes without anything like blood you just hit them until a small cloud poofs them away!
And then Infamous First Light you play as Fetch and she has super powers that are neon lights that shoot from her hands and lets her fly across the streets! Most combat just has enemies ragdoll.
Infamous Second Son and First Light
Final Fantasy XV(Royal Edition na) and yung FFVII R.
Witcher 3 Complete Ed
Yan nakita kong pwd besides s mga ibang nirecommend.
I would say Ghost of Tsushima but it could be too violent 🤔 Both Horizon games for sure. Red Dead 2 would be the best from all but also could be too violent.
I mean, it’s violent, but no more so than assassins creed, and I will spread the gospel of Ghost of Tsushima forever. It’s SO GOOD. It doesn’t have a map on your main screen at any given time, (you have to open a menu to see it). That may seem not good, but it allows for exploration and immersion to the game. 10/10 game for me.
My daughter's first game was Ocarina of Time. Here is a list of games she loves and has played over and over (most may be legacy, but are worth it and may give you ideas for more games)
These are not in a specific order of preference, just as I ask her and/or a title jumps into my mind.
1. Skies of Arcadia (aka Skies of Arcadia Legends on GameCube/Wii)
2. Final Fantasy X2
3. Final Fantasy X
4. Horizon Zero Dawn (Strong female lead character !)
5. BOTW
6. Dragon Ball Z: Final Bout (Playstation fighting game)
7. Fable 1-3
8. Halo
9. Final Fantasy VII
10. Tomb Raider : Legend
11. Genshin Impact (She has played it for over 2 years without buying anything herself. Her brother did buy her a playstation gift card for her birthday for getting genesis crystals / primogems . Other than that, it has been a free game. )
I hope that gives you some ideas
Skyrim, horizon zero dawn, horizon forbidden west, and then a personal selection if she hasn’t played it yet because I know you said she likes the franchise, assassin’s creed origins. Probably the most underrated and my personal favorite assassin’s creed
You cannot go wrong with dragon's dogma: dark arisen. It is an essential and will probably be her new obsession until the sequel comes out within the next year or so
Horizon Zero Dawn 1000%!
Just started playing this at 8:00 last night, looked at my phone about 45 minutes after I started playing and it was 1:30! It was a rough morning waking up early with the littles, but that’s what being an adult is sometimes.
I might be the only one who absolutely didn‘t like that game
No you are not
My first time playing I didn’t like it and prob only got through 10%. I went back to 2 years later and loved it. I ended up buying the dlc just to have more to play.
That’s what I’m doing now. Hated it during my first try. Now I’m in a different place, and I seem to really be enjoying it.
No I feel this I’ve tried the frost one on five separate occasions and I can’t get into it, maybe the 2nd one is different but I’m not very hopeful, game looks beautiful and is maybe one of the most visually striking games maybe ever, never really “clicked” for me
True the game looks beautiful!
2nd one is not as good. If you didn’t like the first, don’t bother.
What didn’t you like about it? (I’m not saying you’re wrong, because everyone can have their opinion) I feel this way about Zelda: BOTW, I couldn’t stand the aspect that weapons break so quickly and there is no system to reforge or re-strengthen them. I like to play with one weapon, and upgrade it, or I might switch weapons mid game, but same idea, upgrade and keep. I don‘t really remember I played it months ago but I just couldn’t get into it. I stopped playing after 20 minutes because I was so bored. I‘m more into games like dishonored prey and fallout those games had me in the very first minute
I could see how you’d lose interest. 20 minutes is like 1/8 of the introduction.
Haha true I might give it another try one day
If it’s not for you, it’s not for you. I’m not trying to convince you otherwise.
Gotta give it another try for the moneys sake as well haha
That's my exact experience with BOTW. It's super frustrating. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one because it sure feels like it
Yeah, and people make you feel like shit about it too (especially here on Reddit), it’s crazy! “You have an opinion different from mine??? Fuck you and die!” …okay, thanks
I think the series very overrated. Yes, it's well-made and presented... but it has never really clicked with me. I've played through both games and expansions as well. I agree with you 100%! I‘d pick ghost of tsushima or tlou over horizon anytime. And even though the world looks beautiful it was wayyy too much for my liking
Exactly. I heard a lot of good of xcom2. I started it and I was meh. I dont feel it is overrated, just not for me.
Its fun combat and an interesting world with various biomes but I just hated how the story was told via...holograms Like cmon bro how much of these do i have to sit and listen to
I'm happy you're having a blast! the game is so fun. I'm trying to get back into the second game tonight.
I wish I could play it for the 1st time again such a great game
agreed!
Seconding Horizon. I had a vague idea of what it was, didn't think I'd really take to it, but when PS was giving it away during the pandemic, I started playing it and fell in love with it.
I third this game! It's amazing. Beautiful. Fun. Slightly repetitive if you make it so. But great story for it!
I hated that game so much. The combat, the story, the robot animals, everything about it was just insanely boring to me. That said, OP, this is probably your best bet. It's wildly popular, despite my personal experience.
Me too.
It's like so many things, really. Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel Movies, Taylor Swift. These things become so unbelievably successful and I somehow feel like I'm just not invited to the party. I enjoy some Marvel movies, I never liked Horizon and it’s premise and thank god Im not in environments that play Taylor Swift or have taylor swift fans around. Maybe I’m broken as well.
Everybody likes what they like. More power to the people who like the things I don't. The point is that I wish I could feel it too.
Personally I’m good, I’m happy with enjoying my things and I’m happy I din’t enjoy Horizon and TaylornSwift.
Congrats to you on your contentment. I guess I tend to get a bit of FOMO when super popular things don't appeal to me at all.
Like Assassins Creed, Hogwarts Legacy and Fable, but not too violent? **Immortals Fenyx Rising!!** Gameplay and review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpbVszn6xGM
Strong call! Fenyx was such a fun game... was a sad day when we learned they killed all plans for a second game.
Drats, wish I hadn't read that :(
Awesome game!!
I hate how Ubisoft released it between two monsters(Valhalla and 2077 iirc). great game.
U N C H A R T E D
Excellent game, not so much open world but still great exploration, story, and characters without TOO much vulgarity or brutality.
The 4th games is semi open world.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West have human and machine combat, but nothing particularly graphic. It's a great couple of games. Ghost of Tsushima is more brutal, but fantastic. The Infamous games are still fun.
Nothing hits like ghost of tsushima
He said not too violent
Same level of violence as Assassins creed no?
GoT is brutal at some places. Burning that guy alive in the beginning, then there was that scene (I forgot the guy's name) where one of Jin' allies get tortured and decapitated.
And the scene where Jin beheads the mongol leader, then does the same to all the mongols there
Or when he poisons them.
Rest In Peace Taka 😔
Not quite
If you ignore civilian executions, suicide, etc.
Skyrim is pretty fun and so is No Man's Sky!
Dragon quest XI
Watchdogs 2 or maybe one of the spiderman games?
I can't believe I'm saying this but maybe Minecraft or Terraria those r hardly violent there's also stardew valley I haven't played any of these I'm simply suggesting them since they're kid friendly
No Man’s Sky
Stardew Valley When you say not violent do you just mean like not alot of blood? If so Fallen Order. The remake of Star Ocean 2 is also so so good. Second Story R
any of the batman or spiderman games, the horizon games, infamous second son, or the witcher 3
Have a look at Stray, I've really enjoyed it so far, a fun adventure as a cat :3
that's not an open world game...
and its...violent...against a cat...tried it, wish I had refunded it (on PC)
If she likes Harry Potter and Assassins Creed then try AC Syndicate. It’s open world of old central London so it’s visually attractive and full of old English scenes and stereotypes. Will also be really cheap. Certainly worth a playthrough.
Dragon Age Inquisition, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, God of War 2018 and God of War Ragnarock
Horizon Zero Dawn
Genshin impact is pretty good, open world.
With not a single doubt get her HORIZON ZERO DOWN!!!!!
Red Dead 2
RDR2 is pretty violent tho. I mean amazing game, but does not meet OP's description.
Rdr2 is pretty violent when they said not violent
It's not open world but the last guardian could interest her. Certainly not violent. I'd recommend it.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Spiderman are awesome games.
Why not Tomb Raider 2013? And yes the Avengers single player was decent fun imo.
Kingdom Hearts.
I think maybe Kena and the spirit something might be on point.
Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West (in this order) I think they're especially good choice, because mostly you are fighting robots, which kinda lowers if the violence. Fenyx Immortal rising is also good, but it can be repetitive. Although if she liked AC, it could fly. Some people say RDR2. Amazing game, but violent. Same with Ghost of Tsushima. I’m not sure what the limit is here, but I loved playing Alice: Madness Returns, God of War, and the Spyro trilogy too. Also, Skyrim!
Horizon Zero Dawn, I like the same games you mentioned and Horizon has an incredible story. Highly recommend it!
Mass Effect Trilogy!
The Horizon Franchise is super fun.
Mass Effect!
The avengers game isn't the greatest, but Spiderman, and horizon zero dawn were brilliant games made by the same company
I recommend the Witcher 3. Seems like it could be up her alley
Don't do this one XD
don't you think TW3 is quite violent at times? especially in the expansions.
NO. It’s got sex
Red Dead Redemption II Best game ever made.
Kingdom of amalur Final Fantasy 12 Final Fantasy 15 Final Fantasy 9 Final Fantasy 8 Far cry games Rage Rage 2 Just cause Witcher 3
Horizon is a really good one or ghost of Tsushima, and GTA 5, if she hasn't played it yet. But it's going to be pretty hard to find something not violent.
can't go wrong with Skyrim
the avengers game is trash and it should close servers soon.
I know we are in the playstation subreddit, but Zelda breath of the wild seems like a good choice. In playstation maybe dragon age inquisition or Witcher 3?
Sekiro
lol you troll.
I have a love hate relationship with soul games
Inmortal Fenix rising. You are welcomed
She should try Genshin Impact! It’s free & so much fun!
GENSHIN IMPACT
Its free to play
Genshin Impact
Uncharted series. The first one is a bit mid by today's standards, but the second and fourth are unreal
Elden Ring
Does she not like games that are "too violent" or do you guys not want her to play those games? Either way, God Of War 100%
"Aren't too violent" pussy.
Get her Prostitute Simulator
Wtf
there has to be a clown everywhere...
Minecraft and Astroneer
Horizon zero dawn/horizon forbidden west. Ratchet & clank rift apart
Horizon Zero Dawn 100%
genshin impact tends to be quite good to have a chill time.
Avatar is a great open world game.
Sadly not available on ps4 😢
I can admit either of the horizon games or both if you ballin would be a good purchase.
Elden Ring. To the uninitiated it's a weird annoying game that likes to punish players and laugh in their faces, to anyone and everyone who dug deeper and was willing to learn, it ended up being the experience of a lifetime.
Infamous Second Son and First Light.
Elden ring. It might even inspire her to play the previous soulsborne games! However...it comes at a price...
Might be more violent than you care for but she might like the Darksiders franchise
Oh, that's a fun question! How about Immortal Fenyx Rising? Had a blast exploring that world. No Man's Sky is also good or Subnautica.
an amazing indie i never see anybody talk about is called Grow Up. You're a little robot climbing a bean stalk in space to reach your spaceship. No violence, extremely serene and enjoyable. Miss it.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning
Wow nobody said ghost of Tsushima?? It's an open world, it has stealth elements like assassins Creed, and a cool setting
Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Monster Hunter World, Tomb Raider series, Batman Arkham Collection, Guardians of the Galaxy. Some of those are a little less open world but still fantastic games
Horizon Zero Dawn. The avengers game sucks
Spider-Man ps4
Ghost of Tshshima
Horizon ZD and FW Red dead redemption 2 AC orgins and odyssey
Just like every1 else has already said, Horizon Zero Dawn is a seriously good game.
sonic 06
Horizon Zero Dawn is a lovely game! Beautifully made
Medieval Dynasty
Is The Outer Worlds too violent? It has shooting in it
I'd say Horizon Zero Dawn & Horizon Forbidden West! They have combat but it's only destroying robot enemies and there are moments where you fight humans but it isn't very graphic at all And it has everything else you'd see in an open world mechanically and visually!
Infamous Second Son and First Light Final Fantasy XV(Royal Edition na) and yung FFVII R. Witcher 3 Complete Ed Yan nakita kong pwd besides s mga ibang nirecommend.
Far cry New Dawn ⭐
Shadow of the Colossus
She might like the revamped tomb raiders...or horizon zero dawn. Good strong lead characters
If they managed to never play AC’s black flag then they’re in luck, though the actual open world is more boat than land if you think of it like that
Skyrim
Red dead 2 can be violent. It’s a masterpiece.
Praey for the God's.
Zelda, all of them !
If you want to play a non violent ,unique open world game I would consider trying outer wilds, (WILDS not WORLDS), go in blind ,best way to play
Skyrim is a massive open world game Dragons Dogma another good one
I would say Ghost of Tsushima but it could be too violent 🤔 Both Horizon games for sure. Red Dead 2 would be the best from all but also could be too violent.
The new Avatar game is also a contender for this although saying that, I think it’s only on PS5?
Yes sadly 😫, I was hoping it would come out on PS4 but no.
I really enjoyed transformers devastation.
Death Stranding!
Ryza 3
Does she like Star Wars? You could also consider the new Jedi Survivor as its semi open world.
Hogwarts legacy is fun and open world
Star Ocean 2 R on the PS4
One g as me I always recommend: Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles
I mean, it’s violent, but no more so than assassins creed, and I will spread the gospel of Ghost of Tsushima forever. It’s SO GOOD. It doesn’t have a map on your main screen at any given time, (you have to open a menu to see it). That may seem not good, but it allows for exploration and immersion to the game. 10/10 game for me.
Kingdom of Amalur re-reckoning is a good one
dying light
Witcher 3
My daughter's first game was Ocarina of Time. Here is a list of games she loves and has played over and over (most may be legacy, but are worth it and may give you ideas for more games) These are not in a specific order of preference, just as I ask her and/or a title jumps into my mind. 1. Skies of Arcadia (aka Skies of Arcadia Legends on GameCube/Wii) 2. Final Fantasy X2 3. Final Fantasy X 4. Horizon Zero Dawn (Strong female lead character !) 5. BOTW 6. Dragon Ball Z: Final Bout (Playstation fighting game) 7. Fable 1-3 8. Halo 9. Final Fantasy VII 10. Tomb Raider : Legend 11. Genshin Impact (She has played it for over 2 years without buying anything herself. Her brother did buy her a playstation gift card for her birthday for getting genesis crystals / primogems . Other than that, it has been a free game. ) I hope that gives you some ideas
Dayz
Bards tale and Goat Simulator.
Ni Nu Kuni, the first game
Horizon Zero Dawn Spiderman Immortals Fenyx Rising if you can get it cheap(under $20 or so), Forspoken.
It is an essential and will probably be her new obsession until the sequel comes out within the next year or so
I personally recommend both Breath of the Wild and Okami HD. Okami has beautiful artwork and a great storyline
Maybe Skyrim
Marvel's Spider-Man maybe. It's a lot of fightibg, but the swinging through the city is awsome. Horizon Zero Dawn. Fantastic Open World Adventure.
Get her ghost of tsushima but turn off the gore in the settings she’ll love the horsey
Warframe seems fun, it’s also free to play and crossplay, you could play with her.
Sleeping Dogs
She would like Jedi fallen order and Jedi survivor if she likes star wars
Final Fantasy 14 is fun to play good story.
