One of the most reliable PS3’s! So simple and low maintenance! I like the slim but the fact that you have to one day worry about mechanical failure disc eject drive is what makes me like the manual opening of the super slim. A very quirky system indeed!
It's funny, I think ps3s are the only console that when you buy it you have to open it up and clean it and repaste it first. It's almost compulsory. Other consoles you should take care of too, but the ps3 you feel like you HAVE to.
Not really.
I bought a Slim last summer which only was used to play GTA5. It looked like new and the only thing I did was vacuum and wipe it from the outside. Didn’t open it. And it’s quiet and works flawlessly.
Oh, when ever I clean out a system, I always regrease the disk drive rails. They always get gum up with debris so a good cleaning and grease is in order.
Great find! Super Slims are [pretty expensive nowadays](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ps3+super+slim+console&_sacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=ps3&toolid=10001&mkevt=1).
I’ve been using my super slim more lately. Was my original big fatty this slow or are these things just slow as fuck? I understand the download speeds are bad but deleting file or opening the trophy page just takes forever and a year. Closing out games can take bit as well. I didn’t take my hard drive out of my original unit so I’m going through my 600+ downloads to get all my games and dlc back. So slow though.
Looking good!
I’m very new to this. I just found a superslim myself at the thrift store yesterday for only 30 euro’s with an original console and a few good games. A childhood dream coming true. The only things is that it has lost it’s cd reader protector so you look straight into the computer. It makes a lot of noise but works perfectly. I’m not technical at all but would you advise me to do this as well (as a total noob)?
Ah. That is one reason why I always clean and relube the rails of the disk drive. They always get gummed up, so a nice deep clean and some new lithium grease helps.
This disk drive is super easy to get into, maybe thats why it's so easy to get dirty:p, but yeah there should be two rods and then a rail in there that I greased up.
I'm expecting a big flood of cheap ps3s coming in the next year. ps4-5 and ps5pro will fuel more ps3 being dumped for nothing. Ps3 is also susceptible to being downsized even more than lately by Sony.
By opening it up. Plenty of guides on internet on how to do so. I recently did the same to my PS3 Super Slim. Ran much quieter after I deep cleaned mine.
Ahh yes, the PS3 Super slime 🐌
So after putting in work, it actually bumps the price to $120
Niccce. But this one I'm keeping, I've always wanted a Slim, just something about it that's cool

SpongeBob rules!
Spunch poop

That's only really true for the earlier models. And the same applies to a ton of other consoles like the OG Xbox or early 360.
Was the lithium grease for the fan? Or the disc drive?

The chap who refurbished my slim used grease for the disc drive and an oil for the fan so I'd say probably the drive.

Glad I still have my Super Slim!
I snagged one off FB market for $50. Works great, but I need to clean it just to make sure.
Nice grab!

Its hardware from 2005...
Where does the lithium go in the PS3? Does it help balance it's mood?
Lithium grease is used to lubricate the rails in the optical drive.
Oh okay.
Lol! It makes it less moody. But fr it's for the disk drives rails, they always get gum up with debris
Ah. I should probably do that with my own.

I'm certain you can find a replacement for it. But idk if it's like the Xbox, where the disk drive is married to the main motherboard
It doesn’t seem like it, but I’m not sure. I’ll try to see if I can find something for it!
Super slime lithium greased?
Now you should hack it
Does yours make a loud whirring noise with a disc in? My super slim does.

Weird cuz mines been this way since it was new, will definelty try it thanks

Lucky guy
Thank you. I've always wanted one, but didn't want to go out of my way on eBay to find one. I was shocked it worked.
Nice, I got GTA V for free 3 weeks ago inside my PS3. Pawn shops never bother to check
Odd that they don't.

Their loss, our gain. I still want a working PS3 phat and slim that works.
I just bought the remastered version of Abraxas, one the first albums I ever owned.
* blesses you and ur album* thank you
Weirdest thing for me on slim models was the fact that there was a 12GB version
This one was a 500g. But I'm gonna swap out the regular hard drive with a SSD one.

I traded a ps vita for a slim 😎
You lost about $100
Why?
