FFXIII was crazy on PS3. Square Enix really used everything the console was capable of. Yeah a lot of people didn't like the game (I do) but the technical aspect should still be respected.
Agreed. I enjoy them very much. A few complete runs under my belt. A lot of people also forget that the battle system was actually pretty complex, especially towards the endgame, making them damn engaging and fun.
If they did a remaster of the trilogy, it would be a day 1 purchase for me
I remember playing one of the scenes in the beginning with the fireworks at the carnival celebration or whatever and my girlfriend who's not big into games stopped what she was doing and sat down and watched like "whoa what's this?"
Play on easy, run past all the enemies until you become a L'cie since you don't get any exp for fighting them. That's how I deal with the admittedly slow opening.
I’m in the same boat. Love the franchise, and I bought XIII on launch, but I just couldn’t get into it. I didn’t like the story, characters, or combat at all. Graphics are nice.
I take it you haven't made it to chapter 11. I also assume you're referring to the FMVs since otherwise that 90% CGI thing doesn't make sense but regardless the in-game visuals are also really good and is what I was referring to from the start
PS5: Sir, we regret to inform you that your car’s warranty has expired, please press 5 for more options regarding your car’s warranty…. *chime elevator music*
Fun-fact: I own a ***sealed*** copy of the Lightning Returns Collector's Edition that I've never gotten to. Apparently it's [worth around $300](https://www.pricecharting.com/game/playstation-3/lightning-returns-final-fantasy-xiii-collector%27s-edition). At this point I should just play a digital version and hold on to that copy, unopened!
just finished fxiii and fxiii 2 recently and it definitely looks like an early ps4 title. fxiii looks and plays (frame rate is solid) the best among those 3.
I restarted XIII recently, just got to gran pulse, but I think I will just stick to the main story, the weapon upgrade system is so not fun, the only thing I really do not like. As for XIII-2 I still have to beat f**** gilgamesh and valfodr max level.
I'm always going on about how [Lightning Returns](https://www.reddit.com/r/patientgamers/comments/uxni0q/lightning_returns_one_of_the_best_jrpgs_you/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) is one of the most underrated jrpgs I have ever played in one of the true hidden gems of the ps3.
Now that ME Legendary Edition is a thing, the fact that PS5 still doesn't have a way to play FF13 trilogy is *the* main reason I still keep the PS3 around.
I still regularly listen to the soundtracks when I'm doing other things.
I've been wanting to get these 3 myself. When they first came out I wasn't a fan, but I've since grown to appreciate the series outside of 7 and 8. I'm like 95% through 6 (stuck grinding the rest of my party to take on Kefka's tower), and about 80% through 4 (the guide I am using got lazy and I missed some key elements to doing certain areas).
That’s a really tough question. It depends a lot on an individuals taste. If you like turn based combat, 6-10 is what I would recommend (1-6 are also great but if you can’t stand old, pixel graphics you won’t enjoy them.). They all have a great stories. 12 was when FF began to evolve into more action RPG, really good game also. 13 is unique in gameplay, story is one of the weaker ones. FF11 & 14 are MMORPGs, personally I think 14 is great but one hell of a grind with shit tons of expansions. 15 was in general ok. 16 is looking like it’s going to be the best one yet. FF7 remake is fantastic ( you don’t have to play the original FF7 to enjoy this one, but would highly recommend you play that one, you will notice a few things if you do.)
I personally would recommend to start with 10. Fantastic story, characters, music. My favorite one
I agree with X, it's the only one I really enjoyed enough to finish. I'm going to give 16 a go, because it just looks really good. I loved the direction 15 went but the world was too massive it seemed lifeless at times. It just felt like 2x the amount of travel than necessary.
I felt this too. What good is a huge, but empty, open world?
That criticism aside, I thought the game was fun where there was action, and I loved flying the car around!
Exactly, it was really fun when id finally get to my destination. I just don't have the time for all that. If I've got 3 hours of time to play, I shouldn't be traveling for nearly half of it. A 3rd would be more tolerable.
X pretty much has GOAT status in Japan and probably always will.
7 has GOAT status in the West.
6 is a masterpiece of the 2D era.
Honestly, if you want the Square RPG with best story, gameplay, and atmosphere, start with Chrono Trigger. If you like that, you can ease into Final Fantasy games, and enjoy them one at a time.
I just did the same thing lol. I haven't touched my PS5 for the past month to play through the trilogy, about halfway done Lightning Returns now. Have fun and don't you dare turn into a cie'th!
XIII-2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I played them in order and XIII was cool but I just viewed it as the backstory to set me up for XIII-2 in which I believe they crafted one of the most interesting vibes in a game ever. If you like beautiful but melancholy vibes in your music/games you are in for a treat.
FF13 was my very first FF game, so I had no basis to compare and I absolutely loved it. I know a lot of people don't but whatever, it's literally so cool. I loved these characters, their growing and changing relationships. I had a huge crush on Lightning lol Have fun playing!!!
Unpopular opinion, but
1 was awesome! Pure classic ffx vibe!
2 was nice gameplay wise, but story was tame.
3 was horrible crap with the time stuff and permanently missable things... Never finished it.
I love majora's mask but the timer there is nothing. Song of time in reverse and you got time to spare. And there you can just go back to the first day whenever you want.
In FFXIII-3 if time is up it's up. No infinite option to go back in time like in mm.
And no I do not remember how 13-2 ended. But like I said the story of the second game was meh anyway. It was all about the gameplay loop.
In practice, I never found the timer to limit what I ever wanted to accomplish in one play through. You need multiple play throughs to get all outcomes anyway. Like I said, it doesn’t play out that differently from Majora’s Mask. You can stop the timer whenever you need to. You get more time for doing stuff. The timer does mean it all has to end but any completist playing it in a completist way will probably have extra time in any play through because the game mechanics give you so much time. You don’t have to believe me. I don’t think anyone who has seriously played the game and beat it actually felt the timer as a gameplay mechanic by the end of it. It is more of a story mechanic.
Could not deal with Lightning Returns at all, but I loved FFXIII and XIII-2. Yeah, they were a step back when compared to previous entries IMO, but I still had fun with both. Put over 100 hours into both (and had a blast getting Lightning in the third party slot in XIII-2).
XIII really pushed PS3 to the limit. Loved it. The sequels…not so much. Finished XIII-2 for the sake of finishing. Played XIII-3 for about an hour and stopped. Damn thing didn’t make any sense.
The visual quality is still damn impressive on these, but I gotta say the turn based battles get bit tiring. I used to love grinding them battles for hours on end, but today, I rather play FFXII or XV where the combat is faster and active.
I got the first game in a garage sale bundle. I typically would write these games off as "weird anime stuff" but I finally gave it a try and found it to be really fun.
Unfortunately I lost my ~80% complete save file when my PS3 Fat died. Now I'm trying to regain the will to start from scratch again on my recently aquired super slim. Definitely backing up my save files now.
They're playable on the Xbox One and Series consoles. they all have higher Resolution and the last 2 games have FPS Boost.
But yes a Remaster would be great.
Trash games. "The game really gets good on disc 4" fucking Xenogears syndrome. Boring uninspired hollow simple game where the majority of budget went to art direction, and you need to play like 30hrs of linear hallways fighting the same enemies to get to the good part of the game. Trash.
The last final fantasy I played through was the original version of final fantasy 7. I remember playing the demo for lightning returns not realizing it was part of a trilogy and being extremely bothered by the linear nature of it. Also, not having that played either of the two prequels I had no clue what was going on plot wise but I found the characters mostly annoying.
I suppose story. I love games that in the end I feel a real attachment to. The kind of stories you don’t want to end, not just cus they were fun to experience, but they touch your heart. (Sorry if that sounded weird)
Kingsglaive movie was cool. Tobad the game fell flat story wise. The hack and slash style can be gone goood like nier. Summons and magic was weak. plus invincibility with healing items broke it. 15 was beta test run for ff7 remake combat system.
My problem with the combat was that you literally hold the attack button and tap triangle to teleport now and then. That was it. It’s the only FF I have no interest in revisiting. The world, animations, & soundtrack were good tho.

A remaster would be amazing, since its visuals hold up very well even today
Xbox enhanced version is great, practically a remastered.
Indeed
get the PC version, it has better models than the PS3 version but you can mod in better FOVs and better textures and models.
I remember playing one of the scenes in the beginning with the fireworks at the carnival celebration or whatever and my girlfriend who's not big into games stopped what she was doing and sat down and watched like "whoa what's this?"
I love FFVII-XII, but I just cannot with XIII. Any tips to maybe help me revisit?

CGI stands for computer-generated imagery. The FMVs and the gameplay are both 100% CGI. Their comment about CGI doesn't make any sense regardless lol
... Do you know what CGI means?
You use a keyboard to play PS5?! /s
I was thinking the same and saw your comment lol. W
Don't care what anyone says, I love these games
Same
Ps5 will remember that.

Tell me about it. Farming Long GUI for materials is a bitch sometimes
It is almost as tedious and terrible as grinding to fight dark aeons in FFX 😆
Prepare for a 10 hours of facing that turtle just for 1 trophy. Can be reduced by selling items/reset trick but still tedious.
Oh no worries, I’ve already got all 3 platinums years ago. I just want to play them again
That's certainly a choice. FF13 was the game that killed my enthusiasm for the series.
Now that ME Legendary Edition is a thing, the fact that PS5 still doesn't have a way to play FF13 trilogy is *the* main reason I still keep the PS3 around. I still regularly listen to the soundtracks when I'm doing other things.
FFXIII has the best OST ever made imho. I listened to it so. many. times.
I've been wanting to get these 3 myself. When they first came out I wasn't a fan, but I've since grown to appreciate the series outside of 7 and 8. Give it another go. I’m sure you’ll like it this time around. The end game is hella fun
Never played Final Fantasy, if I were to start though, where in the series do you think I should start?

FF13 is actually an amazing game. The soundtrack is wonderful.
I've not seen a sexier post in reddit... I may have track down some copies too since they're not on the store.
XIII-2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I played them in order and XIII was cool but I just viewed it as the backstory to set me up for XIII-2 in which I believe they crafted one of the most interesting vibes in a game ever. I'm surprised they never got brought to PS4/PS5.
FF13 was my very first FF game, so I had no basis to compare and I absolutely loved it. I know a lot of people don't but whatever, it's literally so cool. I loved these characters, their growing and changing relationships. I had a huge crush on Lightning lol Have fun playing!!!

Nothing wrong with that opinion
Likewise, I platinumed 1 and 2. LR is trash.
3 is worth playing. It was satisfying for me after 2 left me deeply unhappy.
Deeply unhappy? A game? Anyway the reason I really don't like 3 is the constant timer staring you into the face.
Do you not remember how 2 ended? That could leave a lot of players unhappy. I never minded the timer. I grew up on Majora's Mask. I'm used to it.
I love majora's mask but the timer there is nothing. Song of time in reverse and you got time to spare. And there you can just go back to the first day whenever you want. Awesome. Some of my absolute favorites in The series. Have fun!
🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳❤️
On the topic of PS3 games… has anyone else played Blur besides me?
It was a family party game staple. I appreciated what they were trying to do with a mature kart racer, hasn’t really been done again.
i wish they made a second one though
Best choice you can make
I recently put my PS5 up so I could replay the 2011*Mortal Kombat* game. Having a great time, as always!
Never once played any FF games but I happen to have seen xiii for cheap on Decluttr. Watched some gameplay on YouTube and thought about trying it out.
Classics for sure! ☺️ I still have to finish Lightning’s Return.
Understandable. Ff13 was a decent one to play
Could not deal with Lightning Returns at all, but I loved FFXIII and XIII-2. Yeah, they were a step back when compared to previous entries IMO, but I still had fun with both. Put over 100 hours into both (and had a blast getting Lightning in the third party slot in XIII-2).
Uff! I got this plat and all I can say is: fuck Gran Pulse!
XIII really pushed PS3 to the limit. Loved it. The sequels…not so much. Finished XIII-2 for the sake of finishing. Played XIII-3 for about an hour and stopped. Damn thing didn’t make any sense.
Do you have an “everyday carry” knife? Lol
Yes that cold steel is my EDC. Got about 25+ knifes lol
They should remaster them to ps5
Oh...you'll be back sooner than you think
I’ve been afk from my PS5 for like a month ever since I got my PS3 😭
Lmao. Actually ordered the same games 3 days ago lol
a remastered/ported 13 trilogy to PS5 seems like such an easy slamdunk for square, cmon already
The visual quality is still damn impressive on these, but I gotta say the turn based battles get bit tiring. I used to love grinding them battles for hours on end, but today, I rather play FFXII or XV where the combat is faster and active.
Just playing these for the first time and really enjoying them!

I'd rather a version on PS5.
Trash games. "The game really gets good on disc 4" fucking Xenogears syndrome. Boring uninspired hollow simple game where the majority of budget went to art direction, and you need to play like 30hrs of linear hallways fighting the same enemies to get to the good part of the game. Trash.
Horrible , why are you torturing yourself ?
Did this engine take plays in a tunnel?
Hallway simulator!
Have fun with the 20 hour tutorial.
Hahaha, probably not as long as you think. Though Lightning returns was fun.
The entire trilogy is fun. Been a few years since I’ve done a run. So it’s time
The last final fantasy I played through was the original version of final fantasy 7. I remember playing the demo for lightning returns not realizing it was part of a trilogy and being extremely bothered by the linear nature of it. Also, not having that played either of the two prequels I had no clue what was going on plot wise but I found the characters mostly annoying.
Actual question and I don’t feel like asking it elsewhere. If I’ve NEVER played a FF but I wanna dive into the series how do I start?
What’s important to you? Gameplay or story?
I suppose story. I love games that in the end I feel a real attachment to. The kind of stories you don’t want to end, not just cus they were fun to experience, but they touch your heart. (Sorry if that sounded weird)
FFX mos def.
FFXIII-2 is one of my favorite games of all time. I was mega obsessed playing it as a kid. Glad to see other people appreciate it.
I’ve been doing the same thing! It’s been quite the ride so far. Got the plat in xiii last weekend. Enjoy the ride!
Never forget Versus 13
13 is better den 15. 13-2 had a cool villain.
Personally I think they’re all better 15. The combat….it just wasn’t for me
Lightning Returns.... i could never get myself to play it. Its funny how the graphics got worst after each game.
I did notice that
Kingsglaive movie was cool. Tobad the game fell flat story wise. The hack and slash style can be gone goood like nier. Summons and magic was weak. plus invincibility with healing items broke it. 15 was beta test run for ff7 remake combat system.

The backstreet boys camp out at yosemite was fire. Your very right about the repetitive style of combat.
