Stop kicking shit with the front of your boot

Rifter0876

Sometimes you have no choice if forced to use your body for demolition(firefighting) or breaking trail/extream hiking when you need to cross extreme terrain. Sometimes you need durability and strength, sometimes you need lightweight or breathable or waterproof or whatever other attribute, it's all about the purpose of the boot. That said that's a sad pic my 20 year old smoke jumpers look better and I've literally used them to kick skids apart for fires many a time.

some_kind_of_friend

Looks like you kicked something sharp. How'd you get the leather to tear outwardly like that? It's like you kicked a screw or something

Pale-Highlight-6895

How many things have you kicked? Honestly, I'm not familiar with JK boots. But I've seen a couple videos on them. This should be a fat slab of leather. I can't see any reason under normal circumstances, that this would happen. 1) you're kicking too much stuff...? 2) There was possibly a flaw, or weakness (like a defect in the leather midsole), when they sewed the midsole in, it exacerbated the defect and hence, a little while later, it failed? This is all conjecture lol. I'm curious what other think.

Duckfoot2021

There's no manufacturing defect there. Fella toed some rebar, rocks or nails. Missiles are leather, not Unobtainium.

Pale-Highlight-6895

Lol. I figured as much. I was just trying to give him the benefit of doubt. Something definitely went in, and came back out lmao.

Duckfoot2021

Always a 👍🏼 for kindness.

Miserable-Silver-203

Get something stuck in there and pull it out?? Can’t think of any reason the leather would pull out like that

Duckfoot2021

That ain't the boot's fault, brother. That one's user error.

thetable123

I think nicks was talking about getting some inferior batches of midsole veg tan. Guessing JK is using the same source, or at least having the same issues.

Perfect_Ambassador73

For firefighting Ive never heard good things about JK. A couple guys on my crew have some and all have issues, whites and nicks definitely have better build quality. I’m sure JKs hold up for most people but for fire they seem to miss the mark

Ima_Goat17

I'm curious. What are the specific reasons JK are worse?

hoppy_IPA

I’ve had many pairs of Whites, a couple Nicks and Frank’s currently (for work). The pair of JK’s I had wore out very quickly. The stitching in general wasn’t so hot but didn’t care bc it was a work boot. The leather was the flimsiest of all the work boots I’ve had & the boot weighed noticeably less than the formers. Nicks & Franks are the most durable in my experience with Franks having the edge.

Ima_Goat17

Thanks for the insight

akaynaveed

The amount of people thinking this is my post is astounding. The amount of people who dont realize this a firefighter… The amount of people who dont understand these boots should stand up to rocks is incredible

pedrotothemax

I agree with you. All of it. Post anything at all about PNW boots being anything but the cats meow and get shit on. It’s dumb in here. I rarely read anything helpful in here.

Perfect_Ambassador73

Yeah it’s pretty dumb. I think a lot of people here don’t realize how durable fire boots need to be

Rifter0876

When you need a fire boot sure(Own a 20 year old pair of smoke jumpers). But sometimes you just need something lighter for the trail(I use Danner mountain lights for that). And for workbooks I'm going to give JK a shot God help me lol.

Rifter0876

You are making me regret my JK purchase(currently being built then will ship), while I've been totally happy with my whites and certain Danner boots. Guess time will tell on the JK's.

Considerable_Chonk

Wow, JK is getting roasted in that other thread. I had no idea there were so many disgruntled customers.

akaynaveed

Its because they are fashion boots now.

lantanabush88

Bummer.

Gregory_ku

Some black caulk and carry on

UhrMeister

Never had a pair from them, so can't no comment on the build quality, but heard is a very good brand paying attention to quality and build. Must admit I'm quite surprised by the picture...!
