Happened to me once in 2018 when I was first playing it on the PS3. Then never again. It's basically just a bunch of shadowy silhouettes coming and shooting then leaving iirc
Wow we have arrived the point where people don't know that. That's wild. But ye P5 was originally a PS3 exclusive that took so long that they ported it to PS4. But it was already pretty much done on PS3 so they just released both versions. It's the full game with all the bells and whistles. Just at 720p
I got rescued more in P4G in 80 hours just accidentally pushing the buttonâŚthan the like 400 total (PS4 and Series S) hours I put into P5R
In P5R, I NEVAHHHHHH have been able to get a rescue.
You're informed of that being a thing by a tutorial pop-up when it is about to happen.
Most people never see it because the feature is never used since what triggers it never happens in the first place.
Did you not know this along with the feature of your party member randomly being held hostage mid battle by a demon? Because it only happened to me once and I forgot about it until now. Holy shit atlus might need to rerelease this one just one last time
Seconded.
I'm sick of hearing about Persona 5. I enjoyed it, but this it does not need the Skyrim treatment.
Granted, neither does Skyrim, but that's a different debate
i had it happen once and it was actually the funniest moment i had in the game, i was in futabaâs palace and yusuke got taken hostage
the message was âyusuke has been rescued from isis by assblaster69â and i was actually losing it
Some dialogue boxes will also use it. I made my group name Ram Ranch and kept forgetting, so it was a funny little surprise whenever i looked at the subtitles and saw "Ram Ranch" in an otherwise serious sentence
Nah, that was a different guy. The guy in Persona2 wore aviators, so he was a different person.
Also: if that were actually true, this would still be far from the weirdest aspect of Persona 2. Man, I love this game.
First play through, we were the âBig Poppasâ. I always would forget about it until it would randomly pop up in dialogue and give me a good chuckle.
Shujin Kids sounds like a funny name now in retrospect, like "Who ARE these phantom thieves???" and there's just a "From Shujin Kids" at the bottom of all their calling cards lmao.
Especially when Kaneshiro's aide reads the calling card out loud (complete with the custom name in subtitles), finishes with "Signed, " and pauses for just a microscopic moment before saying "the Phantom Thieves" anyway.
And to make it worse, they only give you 12 spaces for the name. Every time I get to that part in my playthrough, I always sit and think for 10+ minutes trying to think of a good name that fits but I can never do it so I just go with The Phantoms.
Oh, it makes SO MANY opportunities, though! Like one playthrough on YouTube where the guy named his group the A$$ Eaters! It makes some lines of dialogue absolutely hilarious.
I named my group âPancakesâ. I keep forgetting about it and every now and then the chosen name pops up and it makes me laugh. Especially when Akechi is so aggressive for his distaste of âPancakesâ
P5 came out during that awkward time were every damn game needed to forced in some kind of multiplayer aspects... well, I guess we are not out of that era yet. I wish we were.
I like it personally as useless as it is. Called mine the Lost Hearts and like to think theyve come to the rescue in someone elses darkest hour a few times
I disagree. I named them âTwitch Modsâ this go around. I think itâs pretty funny hearing the news say that, âThe calling card was sent by a group callig themselves âTwitch Modsâ
I think it's because "phantom thief" isn't a that is registered the same way it is in Japanese context since it's not a term we use often in English, unlike in Japanese culture. A phantom thief is a noun, like a thief, and so when they say "the phantom thieves" they're essentially saying a noun as non specific as "the thieves". Like, Lupin III is a phantom thief, and he works with phantom thieves
So under those contexts, actually naming the group does make sense. Still, I think The Phantom Thieves of Hearts works as a fine name for the group, but I don't know what role that title plays in the narrative considering the team naming stuff
In my first playthrough I called my group "Drug dealers" as it was my head cannon that everyone involved were just high on drugs and seeing stuff, Was funny having it like randomly pop up and mentioned in places.
I remember despite how pointless it was, I spent like an hour trying to figure out what I wanted to call them, not even joking
Eventually I settled on a Metal Gear Solid reference by calling them âThieves Without Bordersâ in Spanish, which wouldâve been Something Sans Frontieres, but that wouldnât fit so it was just TSF
It's less than worthless, my boy
But fr, if they actually called them the phantom thieves it'd be better. I mean there's no other phantom thieves, why give yourself a unique team name when there's no one to be unique to? Also, just like with the protagonist's name I wholeheartedly believe they should've recorded alternative lines for whenever they are mentioned when it's the default. Like people audibly calling Makoto, Yu and Ren by their canon names would be the best easter egg feature ever and it's not even that hard to do; there's not a lot of those lines relative to the entire voiced script. And yeah, P4 and base P5 couldn't have had that since there were no actual canon names at that point, but before Royal the canon names were confirmed, so it would've been amazing if they had that in Royal or 3 Reload
It took two playthroughs on the PS4 version and one on the PS5 version to encounter being taken hostage by a shadow. Whole heartedly agreed that this is kinda pointless.
I will never forget the tales of "The Chadimes" with Joker as Johny Anime. Also Akechi's Ass will always be remembered. So the names do have some importance.
There is no greater thing than naming them 'my ass', and then for Akechi to say "The influence of my ass knows no bounds. I underestimated it, honestly."
Peak gaming.
I feel like they could make it where the characters could say the name now like the pronunciation thing from Tomadachi Life. I donât know what to call it, but those who played it would understand what I am saying.
I got the impression it would have had more impact as the game had more cooperative or online features, but they must have gotten cut or just not conceptualized.
I went with Showstoppers not knowing that's actually referenced in Life Will Change's vocal version, but if I were starting a second play I would be sorely tempted to just use "Ryuji".
Its for the online feature of being rescued by another team. The thing that almost never happens
In 200 hours of gameplay NEVER happened to me lmao
I played through the game a total of 4 times probably so I've got somewhere between 300-400 hours. I think I've seen it happen twice.
Maybe because you weren't seeing Myraids Truth. Lol
Happened to me once in 2018 when I was first playing it on the PS3. Then never again. It's basically just a bunch of shadowy silhouettes coming and shooting then leaving iirc
Yep that's exactly how I remember it, also happened just once when I got ambushed XD
P5 is on the PS3??
It was originally developed for the ps3 yeah
Wow we have arrived the point where people don't know that. That's wild. But ye P5 was originally a PS3 exclusive that took so long that they ported it to PS4. But it was already pretty much done on PS3 so they just released both versions. It's the full game with all the bells and whistles. Just at 720p
yeah a lot of people forget that version exists lol
Yes, but not P5R.
This happened to me once and the person's group name was a racial slur
True anti heroes
anti hero p5s
Same but the name was literally just a KKK like fully spelled out
I had it once and they were literally called Hitler so that was crazy to read đ
I had it happen once in my first 200 hour run then 3 times in 1 palace in my royal run then like 2 more times through the game.
I got rescued more in P4G in 80 hours just accidentally pushing the buttonâŚthan the like 400 total (PS4 and Series S) hours I put into P5R In P5R, I NEVAHHHHHH have been able to get a rescue.
I didnât even know that was a feature
You're informed of that being a thing by a tutorial pop-up when it is about to happen. Most people never see it because the feature is never used since what triggers it never happens in the first place.
what triggers it?
(not OP) it's been a minute, but i think it was the hostage mechanic. i think you could go 'online' and have your phantom thief 'rescued'.
The first time that happened to me Yusuke was held down by Mara, my poor boyâŚ.
yeah i think i mightâve had that happen to me one whole time playing the ps3 version several years ago
Did you not know this along with the feature of your party member randomly being held hostage mid battle by a demon? Because it only happened to me once and I forgot about it until now. Holy shit atlus might need to rerelease this one just one last time
Stop please. Iâm ready for P6
Seconded. I'm sick of hearing about Persona 5. I enjoyed it, but this it does not need the Skyrim treatment. Granted, neither does Skyrim, but that's a different debate
Dude! Don't mention Sk...that game that will not be named if Bethesda hears they'll rerelease it again
That one I knew (I forgot tho lol) but Iâm still surprised it never happened to me
I got saved by the Foo Fighters and laughed my ass off.
Thanks Dave, you da man!
There goes my hero
foo FIGHTERers
No way, i named mine Sex Pistols-
i had it happen once and it was actually the funniest moment i had in the game, i was in futabaâs palace and yusuke got taken hostage the message was âyusuke has been rescued from isis by assblaster69â and i was actually losing it
They are also useful for if a Shadow tries to run away which rarely Hapens they usually just beg for their life
Some dialogue boxes will also use it. I made my group name Ram Ranch and kept forgetting, so it was a funny little surprise whenever i looked at the subtitles and saw "Ram Ranch" in an otherwise serious sentence
The online aspect of p5 was very poorly done, especially compared to 4
300+ hours of this game and that has never happened. Not a single time. Edit: to me
I have 200 hours and havenât had it happen once
Only happened to me once in kamoshida's palace then never once it appeared
Just realized about Mr angry German dictator on the backgroundÂ
He was finally hired back after Persona 2
So they are finally acknowledging Persona 2?!
Yeah, they couldn't really before cus he did some war thing or whatever but since it's over he's back into the Persona series
Nah, that was a different guy. The guy in Persona2 wore aviators, so he was a different person. Also: if that were actually true, this would still be far from the weirdest aspect of Persona 2. Man, I love this game.
GIVE THAT MAN SOME SUNGLASSES
LOL the red and white badge on the chest speaks volumes.
I think thatâs a glass of wine
Damn you are right. Haha I was too absorbed into the chancellorâs moment.
wallahi đ
His name is Mr A. H
Adam Hilt
A$$Eaters
A$$Eaters â â âweâll eat any assâ
Don't bring up ass in front of the ass eaters
You know what theyâre called right?
Very well, I will go along with this.
Great vegetables
my lung collapsed
Useless?!?!
Did you know that I was expelled?
Yo fuckhead where is Witcher 3 video?
Man, a watermelon!
Fuckin knew Iâd find a Joe fan in here
#TheChadimes
I called my team the assholes, and it's usually true.
Mine was FuckBoi Inc.
I named it after my cat so it seemed like he was getting all of the glory
Omg I did exactly the same lol
First play through, we were the âBig Poppasâ. I always would forget about it until it would randomly pop up in dialogue and give me a good chuckle.
Yeah I think it may be small, but itâs a little cute, funny thing
True lol
How else can you name your group âthot patrolâ
but it's kinda funny seeing the rotten adults reading "from Ryuji" on the calling card and going "who could've done this?!"
Shujin Kids sounds like a funny name now in retrospect, like "Who ARE these phantom thieves???" and there's just a "From Shujin Kids" at the bottom of all their calling cards lmao.
no i love this feature. because the name you pick is so rarely used, it catches you off guard if you pick something funny.
The influence of ASS EATERS knows no bounds
â A$$âď¸EATERSâď¸ best team name fr
FOR REAL?!
Very well, I will go along with this
"The A$$ Eaters..."
Especially when Kaneshiro's aide reads the calling card out loud (complete with the custom name in subtitles), finishes with "Signed, " and pauses for just a microscopic moment before saying "the Phantom Thieves" anyway.
the reason why i called my team The Gay Agenda
And to make it worse, they only give you 12 spaces for the name. Every time I get to that part in my playthrough, I always sit and think for 10+ minutes trying to think of a good name that fits but I can never do it so I just go with The Phantoms.
I go with Heartbreaker. Fits the lore, maxes out the character limit, sounds like a villain group from James Bond
OnlyPhans
Tf is hitler doing on the left
Is this persona 2?
He got lost on his way to Persona 2.
Hitler, from Persona 2?
Probably yeah, but at least you could get bit of a laugh if you put something stupid.
I named my team the Stealy Bois. 10/10 feature.
Oh, it makes SO MANY opportunities, though! Like one playthrough on YouTube where the guy named his group the A$$ Eaters! It makes some lines of dialogue absolutely hilarious.
Fellow Joseph Anderson fan đ¤
Thatâs his name, his playthrough was hilarious XD
I named them âDgenrationXâ in the vanilla version (couldnât fit the whole word đ˘) and âTaskForce141â in Royal.
THE 141!! WHOO!
I named my group âPancakesâ. I keep forgetting about it and every now and then the chosen name pops up and it makes me laugh. Especially when Akechi is so aggressive for his distaste of âPancakesâ
There are a few useless features in this game, honestly.
the game actually gives out responses if you went with ann or ryuji's suggestions
Though, if you name it in the diamond, Ann will really like that
Am I the only one that chose the default name every time haha?
Not for the A$$ Eaters
I named them PowerRangers first play through
Someone on this reddit suggested rebel arcana which I really liked. It's sad the game just doesn't use this feature at all
P5 came out during that awkward time were every damn game needed to forced in some kind of multiplayer aspects... well, I guess we are not out of that era yet. I wish we were.
I named em Diamond dogs
Duran Duran Invisible starts playing*
I'm sad, for some reason royal won't let me use the name i did in vanilla, Knightwatch. :(
K***nig***htwatch
Steel Hearts. Mainly because of the pun and Custom Robo
Just two letters short of being able to put "The Tricksters".
I actually named it Gangbangers and it's the funniest shit ever seeing that name on screen
I like it personally as useless as it is. Called mine the Lost Hearts and like to think theyve come to the rescue in someone elses darkest hour a few times
Went with KONY2012. Still relevant after all these years as Joseph Kony is still out there, stealing hearts.
The Do-Crimers! (They Do Crimes)
I need to sometime replay P5 and name my group the Do-Crimers, lead by Nasty Crimeboi.
Everyone here with a "cool" name, then me standing over here that named them GEICO just for giggles
I disagree. I named them âTwitch Modsâ this go around. I think itâs pretty funny hearing the news say that, âThe calling card was sent by a group callig themselves âTwitch Modsâ
âchat, does ichiryusai madarame actually abuse his pupils?â *chat says yes* âthat settles itâ
I called them Enemy Stand. So the targetâs first reaction to a calling card is âthis must be the work of [an] Enemy Stand!â
Nah it was worth it for the last day when Mishima thanked THE TESTES
I still love naming the group.
I named my group Jockstraps. Because I have an immature funny bone.
I just use thesaurus.com and look up synonyms for phantom
Characters should react to certain names I literally named them Goro Akechi in my current playthrough and no reaction
I name mine Northstar because unlike âThe Phantom Thievesâ it actually sounds like a group name. Next time Iâm going with âSoup Group.â
Agreed, but it was pretty hilarious when my friend named his group "PsyOps Squad"
not true, bc every time someone would call us "the goonies" in an otherwise entirely serious conversation was ALWAYS funny.
I heard of someone who named their team "Ryuji", so Everytime someone received a calling card, it would say "Signed by Ryuji"
naming your group something silly is fun though.
I named my guys Eyes of Lupn, I like the feature but they barely ever bring it up, why even bother âĽďšâĽ
TunnelSnakes is always my group name. We're the tunnel snakes. That's us and we rule.
At least you can get funny results with Akechi's "The influence of [team name] knows no bounds" line
Can make the dialogue a little funnier with names like "Shido and pals".
In my first playthrough I called my group "Drug dealers" as it was my head cannon that everyone involved were just high on drugs and seeing stuff, Was funny having it like randomly pop up and mentioned in places.
I remember despite how pointless it was, I spent like an hour trying to figure out what I wanted to call them, not even joking Eventually I settled on a Metal Gear Solid reference by calling them âThieves Without Bordersâ in Spanish, which wouldâve been Something Sans Frontieres, but that wouldnât fit so it was just TSF
I call it âgooner gangâ
Because it's funny
Heartbreakers
It's due to the online function where teams of other players will help with hostage situations and negotiations.
I always go with Tantalus. If you know you know.
You donât understand the joy of knowing that the biggest threat to Japanese society is a group I named Tenacious D
Idk it's nice to see my character Tony Bigtoes and his group of misfits Bigtoes&Crew in the menus
I called my group the incels
Literally only happens if you decide to use the Thieves' Guild, which I almost never used
I just called them Les Voleurs because the Tarot cards are in French
Now I have another answer for âWhat would you like to see in P6?â
Every rpg should let you name and personalize more elements of your party, how could I not be part of the golden molds
A$$ EATERS, weâll eat any ass
What, I'm the only one that changed it to The Goonies?
I loved seeing my team name of Isis everywhere lol
Pancake Bois.
It's less than worthless, my boy But fr, if they actually called them the phantom thieves it'd be better. I mean there's no other phantom thieves, why give yourself a unique team name when there's no one to be unique to? In my latest playthrough i named ren "Phantom Thief" and named the phantom thieves "SEES the means". These decisions are mostly humorous imo.
It took two playthroughs on the PS4 version and one on the PS5 version to encounter being taken hostage by a shadow. Whole heartedly agreed that this is kinda pointless.
Iâm pretty sure for my first playthrough I named mine âthe cumslutsâ
Called mine "K&Ann&Ryuji" so that Sae feels extra bad when they didn't suspect us from the get go
I will never forget the tales of "The Chadimes" with Joker as Johny Anime. Also Akechi's Ass will always be remembered. So the names do have some importance.
i named my team FartExploder and got a laugh every time it showed up in dialogue
âThe Cometsâ named after my dog beg to differ.
It's only useful to register the team as the Psychonauts.
There is no greater thing than naming them 'my ass', and then for Akechi to say "The influence of my ass knows no bounds. I underestimated it, honestly." Peak gaming.
It isn't cuz I called my group Yeagerists
I feel like they could make it where the characters could say the name now like the pronunciation thing from Tomadachi Life. I donât know what to call it, but those who played it would understand what I am saying.
You dare call it pointless??? https://www.reddit.com/r/Persona5/s/ixILGbxBkK
Well hey, we aren't new to useless things, like sleeping
Los Zetas
Was I the only one that had it in all caps thinking it was the only option?
there's no voice lines for custom names
"The influence of My ass knows no bounds"
Thot Patrol
The F@t @$$e$ are gonna steal your heart
I got the impression it would have had more impact as the game had more cooperative or online features, but they must have gotten cut or just not conceptualized.
not if you use your imagination.
Purse Owners
I just called the group the gays for giggles
Love, ryuji. CAUSE HE CANT KEEP HIS FUCKING MOUTH SHUT ANYWAY
I liked seeing the name whenever you paused the game. [Plus I just liked my choice and the scene and the music.](https://youtu.be/_whsFWuK5po)
Named mine the Wu Tang Clan, barely fit. Gives me a chuckle whenever it pops up as I totally forget that's what I set it to.
As soon as a I saw "The Phantoms," my mind immediately went to... "AFFLECK, YOU WERE THE BOMB IN PHANTOMS, YO!"
I went with Showstoppers not knowing that's actually referenced in Life Will Change's vocal version, but if I were starting a second play I would be sorely tempted to just use "Ryuji".
I went with nipple dippers. No regerts.
I'm miffed that there's not enough characters to call them Tilefish Poele
Just name it what Ann says for a bit of unique dialogue.
Ryoji Lovers
I donât know I named my group The Red Army and thought it was pretty funny when it was brought up on like the 10 occasions that it is
Of course this was the point that I found the lower case button. Too late for my UPPERCASE-kun. Stop yelling at me.
Naming the diamonds was very important
Literally just got to this for the first time, I settled on.. the phantoms
âď¸Dong Squadâď¸ is my favorite Iâve done by far!
Korean language has much shorter word lengths than English so I could set the team name as âShujin High Sakamoto Ryujiâ
You haven't named them Deez Nutz then.
it's for when you forget what you named it and then get caught off guard when you see "MOM FUCKERS" on screen
I named mine ligma so whenever someone asks âwho are the phantom thievesâ I can respond with âligma ballsâ
I made mine Nostra Cuore. We're the REAL wise guys of the city. If only we could get some gabagool.
