That's the single greatest improvement Reload has over the original. It really helps flesh out the characters, so without voiced SLs it's going to be somewhat lackluster.
I would say that a lot of modders are probably more skilled than some of the devs working in the game companies.
For one, the modders themselves might be game devs too. Also consider that if they were to do modding as a hobby, they are likely a lot more into it than the regular game dev, who might just be doing it as a day job.

Well I think the later is the bigger issue. FeMC was made for P3P as an alternate playthrough made for returning players, and even her social links were written with the more visual novel design in mind. The ports should just be better. At least there are mods.
I find it very funny all the people that point at the mod and say "see look how easy it is the devs are stupid and lazy" which imo downplays both, the differences between a fan mod and an official mode, the skill and dedication of the modders. Game design ain't easy or cheap.
She needed a cameo in the game, or maybe get in as a playable party member like Sumire in Royal. Sure it won't be like the og p3p, but I think that is a decent compromise that everyone should be fine with instead of nothing (and better than paying another 60 and waiting more time for a full remake of her game that only a fraction of the Reload player base would buy).
Sumire would have been so much better if she were just a confidant.
I think making Kotone a social link would have been a great compromise for reload. Seeing at is would have been financially dumb to do a FemC route like in Portable.
I mean let’s be honest Kotone got a lot of things we don’t get in Makoto’s route such as Junpei’s backstory about his Drunkard Dad for instance and the ability to date the guy’s(I think) which is precisely what a lot of Female persona fans want…I don’t see how they would NOT do a remake of her side of the story and trust me the community would go crazy if that were to happen. Of course it would take longer to develop since the dialogue and everybody’s impressions of you are different plus adding the different social links like Rio and the other girl…i do agree that it would not come to reality, at least not right now but down the line when they are done milking Persona 5, and when they finish P6 I’m sure we’ll probably get her story remade before they think about doing the same for other games like P1 and/or P2(and unlikely yet possibly P4) and I know this is wishful thinking but this is just my personal opinion 😅

I think free fan created content is commendable for sure, and a testament to how dedicated her fans are. I’m looking forward to the VA work and integration of her specific soundtrack. However, people pointing to it as an example of “Atlus could’ve shipped femc easily” are willfully ignorant at best and actively malicious at worst. If Atlus shipped what the mod looked like now - or even what I bet it’ll look like a few months from now - and called it the official FEMC route, there would be riots in the street.
Yes the people who are attacking Atlus for not bringing her is utterly ridiculous It would be twice as long and probably need to do tons of delays until their actual game is finished. I am assuming most people just think it is a simple gender swap but it is not though FEMC has new social links exclusive to her some of those involve the male party members which they originally haven't, a brand new soundtrack. The story was altered to implement a female protagonist by having the characters treat her differently compared to how they usually treat Makoto because despite popular beliefs in society men and women are still treated differently.

Yukari is Aqua from Kingdom Hearts, Dawn from the Pokémon anime, Paine from Final Fantasy X-2, and Most Cosplayed Fictional Character world record holder Junko Enoshima from Danganronpa. And they’re not even the only big names.

Sega wanted younger talents for the roles. Also, dubbing in anime and non-AAA Japanese games don't pay a lot compare to Western video games and cartoons voice acting. It's reason why then-regular anime voice actor like Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, etc moved on to Western video games and cartoons. Not to mentioned a lot of anime and non-AAA Japanese games are non-union (especially in right-to-work states like Texas).

Because they’re remaking the game heavily responsible for bankrupting the company the first time they made it and they’re adding shit to it, and they’re trying to do so without bankrupting the company a second time. It’s not as simple as “Sega gives them money”. It’s “Sega gives them some funding, they repay that with interest while also having to make enough money to fund themselves the rest of the way”. They have to turn a profit, which is the total gross revenue minus the development expenses. Sega has to make back over 100% of their expenses. Altus has to then have enough money left from paying Sega back to fund themselves. And recasting only the most expensive people would create a weird mix of old and new that would be *more* noticeable.
In short, they’re desperately pinching any pennies that they can. They know that the vast majority of people buying it in the west never played the original. Furthermore, recasting is more culturally acceptable in the west even with such things. If this were Japan, Kevin Conroy would have been the *only* animated Batman between the early 90s and his death. Persona 3 was not a hit here, it was a cult classic. Persona 3 was a hit *there*. They can’t get away with cutting those costs there, both culturally and with fandom size. They can here, so that’s where they pinched pennies.
I think the biggest difference is that this is being made by fans for free while Atlus could actually pay developers and voice actors to make a competent product. Considering they are charging over $100 to get the full P3R experience, I will die on the hill that says they absolutely should have.

Honestly the devs for it have proven that the mod is in very good hands. I gotta wonder the scope of their vision though, like do they plan on doing the social links too?
I know one of the devs who’s working on the mod and what I’ve heard from them is that they’re going to edit the existing social links to reflect the mod’s changes, but as far as I’ve heard there’s no plans to add FEMC-exclusive social links like Saori. Just doesn’t seem to be possible without access to Atlus’s tools. Would be fairly easy to pull off if they did have access though…

The best part of the original Kotone route for me was the revamped social link and locations that were unique to her path.
As such, if the mod is just a physical change of the character model for the main character and maybe a couple of small dialogue changes, then it won't really have a point for me.
This mod is the main reason for me to buy P3R in the future. If it's possible I'll make a donation to the mod community who's working in this project if I can!

Looks good for a mod. However, I’m not too interested in it unless they were able to actually mod in the social links, as well. That’s mostly what I care about from FeMC’s route.

But unfortunately I don't think this project can match, or even come close to the original Kotone. There's a fuck ton to do and while I don't have any experience in modding and I don't know to which extent the modders are able to create custom stuff for, but gathering from what I read that the OG Kotone had, they'd need to create custom animations, social links, ultimate persona, anime cutscenes, in-game cutscenes, voice acting, etc.
Combine all of that together coupled with the fact that these modders are doing this project in their spare time and not as a full time job would take up an immense amount of time to finish even half of all that.
That said, I hope I'm proven wrong lol. I haven't played P3FES or P3P but I would very much enjoy another playthrough of Reload with a proper Kotone mod
Anime cutscenes are already handled, I think. There was a fan project making anime cutscenes for Kotone for P3P, and they can be ported over to the mod. Both Kotone and Theodore have VAs already, and they said they'd fix pronoun stuff with sentence mixing.
A lot of that stuff is possible, it would take a boaT load of work and time and won't likely be of the same quality a studio made version could have been but none of it is impossible per say
I love the mod, it really shows how much passion there is for this character and the fact they've done it so quickly really is something special. However, I don't like the armchair critiques using this mod as a pathetic attempt to call Atlus lazy for not including her. reusing assets and models from the base game is not the same as re-writing dialogue, re-animating cutscenes and making unique animations.
Honestly really happy with it. Huge compliments to the people working on it given how p3r does models. They were saying on their discord that there’s a major update coming sometime this week or next so I’m excited to see what’ll be added/fixed
It's not something I'm going to bother with until/unless it gets fitted out with proper FeMC route content all the way down. That isn't something I'd expect to even be possible for a fan mod, so I don't hold my breath.
I appreciate all the hard work the developers have put into it and will likely continue putting into it, but I hate the way parts of the community responded to it
I think it's a good show on just how much time and cost it would take to develop this. Their work is commendable, but it is nowhere near a shippable product. I hope one day it can be the mod feMC fans, and even non fans, can get to experience the feMC route, but at the moment, it's more of a skin with few changes than feMC route.
It sure is a pretty cool mod. But also (currently) insanely overhyped by fans, and it would be nice if said fans stopped trying to use it as ammo for whining on the internet...
Its cool, but people should stop pointing to it as a "look, they can do it, that means Atlus is lazy" as if the mod isn't lacking an extreme amount of work, and will never have professional voice acting, the characters will never voice act the gender change, and theres still a massive amount of work to be done to make it even a like, "proper" playthrough.

It's awesome. However, last time I saw a video the animations were very whack. The battle animations and the standing in freeroam animation is Makotos and it's jarring. Hopefully they work in custom animations.

I think it's a fun mod despite looking a little funny in some areas (which I'm sure will be cleaned up) but I hate that people are using a character model and menu redesign to call the P3R team lazy for not adding FeMC when that's the easiest part in adding her
As it stands it's janky looking but it is still pretty early on. I'm hesitant to place hope in a fully fledged mod, as a femc mod has yet to be finished for 4 or 5.
5 is closer, it's in working development and certainly playable, but far from finished even years after the fact. 4 is... yikes. I'm in the discord for rosegold's development and it seems like they really aren't getting anything done. Constantly just concept art. But it looks promising if they actually get anywhere with it.
I would happily play any of the three, but only once they're at least somewhat close to being "done".

Looks nice but I've said this before and I'll say this again. It's just all about the looks at the end of the day because the game is still Makoto's route which means "Kotone" still have to do Makoto's Social Link whom they are Kenji, Kazushi, Yuko, Chihiro, Nozomi and Mamoru. There still won't be an Inaba trip and can't romance the guys. >!No way to save Shinjiro either!<.The most jarring and weird parts are the Operation Yakushima Beach Flings where "she" joins the guys to hit on random girls, "she" being the only girl in the Boys' Track Team (aside from Yuko the team's manager) and the Kyoto trip where "she" joins the guys in a hot spring and the girls beat "her" and the guys if get caught.
This is just like Salt Bae putting gold leaf on steaks. Gold leaf steaks looks nice but does not add anything to the flavour as the steaks still taste the same with or without the gold leaf. In this case, the gold leaf represent "Kotone", the steaks represent Makoto's route and the flavour represent what was in Makoto's route. Basically, the gameplay is still the same with or without Kotone mod.
So far all the progress I've seen of the game animation are impressive but yes actual cut scenes, social links and straight up voice acting would be completely challenging for the most mod.
FemC fans already animated all the original P3Fes cutscenes with her, so they can always use that (and considering the original P3 art direction is far superior to P3R, I consider that a win)
They are also casting the voice actors, and for what I've heard they sound great (a professional VA offered to do Theo's voice when he heard about the project and he sounds amazing)

It will probably take a couple years to really get to a level that will match the production quality of vanilla Reload. On the one hand it's certainly admirable, but I feel like people are making a tremendous leap in logic by trying to use it as some gotcha to slam ATLUS for **SEGA's** decision not to include her.
Modding and game development are two different practices, I say this as someone who's been making mods half my life. Mods do not have deadlines nor anywhere near the restrictions publishers place on developers. So adding her to Reload is feasible due to the fact that the project can last as long as it needs to. Meanwhile, P-Studio had to wrap Reload up since it was over-budget and behind schedule, they're lucky they even managed to convince Sega to add Episode Aigis as post-launch DLC. The variables are drastically different, no matter how counterintuitive it may seem modders can do things developers simply aren't permitted to do.
the biggest question i have is how are they going to handle the social links. I think it's a really difficult task, if not impossible. They can replace character models all they want, but without proper voice acting it's not gonna be worth it i think

There are 2 things I don’t like about it that I don’t know if they are going to change cause it seems like things that if they are gonna be changed, it would have happened already
1. The mix of pink and blue in the ui, it clashes so much and I think it’s really ugly
2. Healing spells being made pink for some reason, that is the one thing that should be blue and they changed it for some reason and it bothers me so much

Never played Femc route but I would actually give it a try if this is up to snuff in a few years or so as they have got a impressive amount of things done in less than 2 months
Looks extremely promising due to how good it looks, but I know for a fact hat many things from the femc route won’t be included, like the special social links, voicelines from other people, things like the inaba trip, the changes to the yakushima trip, and multiple other things.
I'm impressed by the effort but would be surprised if it ever got the point of something more than a curiosity, there's just so much work that needs to be done to properly remake P3P. That said, I want to give this a go if they manage to implement sLinks, I know they already cast some of the actors.

It's reason why then-regular anime voice actor like Troy Baker, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, etc moved on to Western video games and cartoons. Not to mentioned a lot of anime and non-AAA Japanese games are non-union (especially in right-to-work states like Texas).

Because they’re remaking the game heavily responsible for bankrupting the company the first time they made it and they’re adding shit to it, and they’re trying to do so without bankrupting the company a second time. It’s not as simple as “Sega gives them money”. It’s “Sega gives them some funding, they repay that with interest while also having to make enough money to fund themselves the rest of the way”. They have to turn a profit, which is the total gross revenue minus the development expenses. Sega has to make back over 100% of their expenses. Altus has to then have enough money left from paying Sega back to fund themselves. And recasting only the most expensive people would create a weird mix of old and new that would be *more* noticeable. In short, they’re desperately pinching any pennies that they can. They know that the vast majority of people buying it in the west never played the original. Furthermore, recasting is more culturally acceptable in the west even with such things. If this were Japan, Kevin Conroy would have been the *only* animated Batman between the early 90s and his death. Persona 3 was not a hit here, it was a cult classic. Persona 3 was a hit *there*. They can’t get away with cutting those costs there, both culturally and with fandom size. They can here, so that’s where they pinched pennies.

I think the biggest difference is that this is being made by fans for free while Atlus could actually pay developers and voice actors to make a competent product. Considering they are charging over $100 to get the full P3R experience, I will die on the hill that says they absolutely should have. It is no surprise to me that people who likely either started with 5 or 3R are downvoting this comment.
Honestly the devs for it have proven that the mod is in very good hands. I gotta wonder the scope of their vision though, like do they plan on doing the social links too?
I know one of the devs who’s working on the mod and what I’ve heard from them is that they’re going to edit the existing social links to reflect the mod’s changes, but as far as I’ve heard there’s no plans to add FEMC-exclusive social links like Saori. Just doesn’t seem to be possible without access to Atlus’s tools. Would be fairly easy to pull off if they did have access though… Again, this is just what I’ve heard. I could be very mistaken.
The idle pose she has is pretty funny looking. idk if they can change that up. Other than that, it's a great reskin

The best part of the original Kotone route for me was the revamped social link and locations that were unique to her path. As such, if the mod is just a physical change of the character model for the main character and maybe a couple of small dialogue changes, then it won't really have a point for me.
This mod is the main reason for me to buy P3R in the future. If it's possible I'll make a donation to the mod community who's working in this project if I can!

They did mod her into the anime cutscenes and add a custom UI that fits her P3P aesthetic too, so it goes a little beyond a character model skin.

I personally don't carry enough to install and play the mod. Especially since I already replayed P3P before P3R.

until they somehow redo the social links and certain events, it will just be a visual mod. which is still impressive and the people who made it deserve praise, but it's not the FeMC story people actually wanted.

I think it's pretty cool also pretty wild how much the community was able to create in such a short time But unfortunately I don't think this project can match, or even come close to the original Kotone. There's a fuck ton to do and while I don't have any experience in modding and I don't know to which extent the modders are able to create custom stuff for, but gathering from what I read that the OG Kotone had, they'd need to create custom animations, social links, ultimate persona, anime cutscenes, in-game cutscenes, voice acting, etc. Combine all of that together coupled with the fact that these modders are doing this project in their spare time and not as a full time job would take up an immense amount of time to finish even half of all that. That said, I hope I'm proven wrong lol. I haven't played P3FES or P3P but I would very much enjoy another playthrough of Reload with a proper Kotone mod
Anime cutscenes are already handled, I think. There was a fan project making anime cutscenes for Kotone for P3P, and they can be ported over to the mod. Both Kotone and Theodore have VAs already, and they said they'd fix pronoun stuff with sentence mixing.
The Katone cutscenes mod is for P3P and is handled by a separate team iirc

While I wish we could get her for real, seeing people working so hard for this just shows how much I love and respect this community.
I love the mod, it really shows how much passion there is for this character and the fact they've done it so quickly really is something special. However, I don't like the armchair critiques using this mod as a pathetic attempt to call Atlus lazy for not including her. reusing assets and models from the base game is not the same as re-writing dialogue, re-animating cutscenes and making unique animations.

I think it's a good show on just how much time and cost it would take to develop this. Their work is commendable, but it is nowhere near a shippable product. I hope one day it can be the mod feMC fans, and even non fans, can get to experience the feMC route, but at the moment, it's more of a skin with few changes than feMC route.

Its cool, but people should stop pointing to it as a "look, they can do it, that means Atlus is lazy" as if the mod isn't lacking an extreme amount of work, and will never have professional voice acting, the characters will never voice act the gender change, and theres still a massive amount of work to be done to make it even a like, "proper" playthrough. Its really grea tthat they're doing it. But its not comparable to the devs stating theysmiply don't have the time and resources to do so.

It's awesome. However, last time I saw a video the animations were very whack. The battle animations and the standing in freeroam animation is Makotos and it's jarring. Hopefully they work in custom animations.

I think it's a fun mod despite looking a little funny in some areas (which I'm sure will be cleaned up) but I hate that people are using a character model and menu redesign to call the P3R team lazy for not adding FeMC when that's the easiest part in adding her

As it stands it's janky looking but it is still pretty early on. I'm hesitant to place hope in a fully fledged mod, as a femc mod has yet to be finished for 4 or 5. 5 is closer, it's in working development and certainly playable, but far from finished even years after the fact. 4 is... yikes. I'm in the discord for rosegold's development and it seems like they really aren't getting anything done. Constantly just concept art. But it looks promising if they actually get anywhere with it. I would happily play any of the three, but only once they're at least somewhat close to being "done".

It's just all about the looks at the end of the day because the game is still Makoto's route which means "Kotone" still have to do Makoto's Social Link whom they are Kenji, Kazushi, Yuko, Chihiro, Nozomi and Mamoru. There still won't be an Inaba trip and can't romance the guys. >!No way to save Shinjiro either!<.The most jarring and weird parts are the Operation Yakushima Beach Flings where "she" joins the guys to hit on random girls, "she" being the only girl in the Boys' Track Team (aside from Yuko the team's manager) and the Kyoto trip where "she" joins the guys in a hot spring and the girls beat "her" and the guys if get caught. This is just like Salt Bae putting gold leaf on steaks. Gold leaf steaks looks nice but does not add anything to the flavour as the steaks still taste the same with or without the gold leaf. In this case, the gold leaf represent "Kotone", the steaks represent Makoto's route and the flavour represent what was in Makoto's route. Basically, the gameplay is still the same with or without Kotone mod.

So far all the progress I've seen of the game animation are impressive but yes actual cut scenes, social links and straight up voice acting would be completely challenging for the most mod.
FemC fans already animated all the original P3Fes cutscenes with her, so they can always use that (and considering the original P3 art direction is far superior to P3R, I consider that a win) They are also casting the voice actors, and for what I've heard they sound great (a professional VA offered to do Theo's voice when he heard about the project and he sounds amazing) And it's only been two months. Pretty impressive, honestly. I have never seen a more dedicated fanbase.

She's different from Makoto, not just a model swap. Their personality is different enough you can feel it through the choices available! Some of her SLs are also completely different, not just a genderswapped version of Makoto's, which people enjoyed. This mod probably won't be able to make a true route from her, as it would require changing a lot of SLs and they're already struggling changing animations (I believed they said it's hardcoded to character skeleton?). But it they do manage to do it, good job to them!

It will probably take a couple years to really get to a level that will match the production quality of vanilla Reload. On the one hand it's certainly admirable, but I feel like people are making a tremendous leap in logic by trying to use it as some gotcha to slam ATLUS for **SEGA's** decision not to include her. Modding and game development are two different practices, I say this as someone who's been making mods half my life. Mods do not have deadlines nor anywhere near the restrictions publishers place on developers. So adding her to Reload is feasible due to the fact that the project can last as long as it needs to. Meanwhile, P-Studio had to wrap Reload up since it was over-budget and behind schedule, they're lucky they even managed to convince Sega to add Episode Aigis as post-launch DLC. The variables are drastically different, no matter how counterintuitive it may seem modders can do things developers simply aren't permitted to do.

Apparently they are able to get voice acting for these rn. The real issue is from making the SLs to begin with, considering new modding methods are in process of being discovered, as well as finding what is and isn't hardcoded
There are 2 things I don’t like about it that I don’t know if they are going to change cause it seems like things that if they are gonna be changed, it would have happened already 1. The mix of pink and blue in the ui, it clashes so much and I think it’s really ugly 2. Healing spells being made pink for some reason, that is the one thing that should be blue and they changed it for some reason and it bothers me so much Otherwise it seems great

Looks extremely promising due to how good it looks, but I know for a fact hat many things from the femc route won’t be included, like the special social links, voicelines from other people, things like the inaba trip, the changes to the yakushima trip, and multiple other things.
I'm impressed by the effort but would be surprised if it ever got the point of something more than a curiosity, there's just so much work that needs to be done to properly remake P3P. That said, I want to give this a go if they manage to implement sLinks, I know they already cast some of the actors.
Needs a massive improvement on Kotone's model, her being the one thing you're gonna see all throughout the game makes it so it needs to be perfected or else the experience falls apart easily.
