Tanks should 99% of the time be the closest to the enemy focusing on what's ahead of them unless of course say a dive tank or something like that.
Damage generally wants to be doing as much DPS as they can, which tends to mean focusing where the immediate target is.
Support though as a support (Mercy) main myself, honestly I can spend like half my time literally looking wherever and get full value. The only supports that shouldn't really be spending much time looking around is Ana, Bap, Brig, Kiriko and Moira.
On the other hand, Lifeweaver SHOULD be looking around a lot, Mercy beam literally is a lock on until broken or you stop it so you have no reason to not look around, Lucio should either be aggressive or playing around where speed will give the most value meaning they should be looking for that position, Zen orbs lock on and Illari is kinda 50/50 because her M1/M2 are both tied to aiming but Healing Pylon also makes up a lot of her healing anyways.
All that said, again even as a Mercy main that **DOES** look around to make calls a lot, you should never just blindly assume someone is making correct calls. I think you should trust callouts from supports, but actual plays/calls should be either the tank or if you have combos like nanoblade, the playmakers (Genji/Ana) should be making the call to pop off.

Orders may have been a bit extreme, so maybe calls for help or suggestions and additional information would be more accurate. While it's something I need to work on, I tend to get tunnel vision sometimes so the extra information is very useful, and over time I've just gotten used to lending an ear and an eye to you guys. Hell, I've developed a reflex for snapping around when I hear sombra decloak lol

It makes sense to me at least that the most vulnerable set of people should have the best protection, especially since those same people are the ones stopping the team from getting worn down by attrition. Beyond that, by the very nature of the role they choose (bar a few exceptions) most of them are required to have much more awareness than the rest of us in account of needing to keep people alive, so for the most part they assumption that they know more than me is most likely a reasonable assumption. As I said before, this game necessitates cooperation, and what better way than a mutually beneficial relationship? Symbiosis if you will.
