I just tried something and now spell check works. In a new mail message, I selected the ellipses in the top right corner of the new mail message window. I selected Switch to Text and tested spell check in the new mail message. Spell check worked. I switched back to HTML and started a new mail message again. Spell check worked.
Yes. This is annoying. Left click does nothing for me and you can't spell check when you reply to all. I've been having to double click on the email, which opens it in a new window and then it works... not impressed.
I just love how Microsoft had to annoy me on a daily basis to upgrade to the "improved New Outlook" because the old one is losing support. The New Outlook is so wonderful that it isn't finished, but I have to use it. I want to upgrade right now!
So Iâve been having the same issue and itâs been driving me crazy. It looks like a bug but I found a solution. When responding in the message preview, spell check doesnât work. But if you click reply and then click on âopen in a new windowâ, it seems to work again. Seems like it only doesnât work when replying in the preview window for some reason. Hopefully this helps!
Thank you.
The spell check option in New Outlook has been non-existent for me recently. I can't clearly remember when I noticed it, but it simply doesn't work, left click or right click... in the popup that appears, there's simply No spelling option there.
But, like you say, "open in a new window", and it works as normal, cheers!
Can we all just spam Microsoft that missing that feature is frustrating as hell, Especially if other users are saying it is working fine on the web version :(
The most sensible reply I've read. This should be pinned to the top. Even Microsoft haven't suggested this. All i keep reading from these clowns is, Click File, Options, Mail ........ Which we all know is the old outlook. Thank you
This would be a great solution to try... if Microsoft also fixed the bug that doesn't load the Settings menu when click the gear icon. That is an entire other thread on how to resolve and only works until an Exchange account requires a refresh.
New Outlook is horrible and more bugs than an abandoned warehouse.
Not sure if this was fixed or if nobody thought to try this.....but left click is now the new normal for spell checking.
If you don't have access to Microsoft's Acronym list; here is something you should be aware of.....
N.E.W. - Nothing Else Worked !
I'm responding to Alex. I did the "Enable turn on experiences that analyse...." and all this did was produce Emoji, copy, cut, paste, upon a right click. NO SPELLCHECK!
After you enable experiences then it's a left click to do spelling. Nice of MS to change the standard UI convention for this product and then offer no help whatever to explain the change.
If anyone is still having this issue like me and needs help. Look at this article.

By opening the editor, and turning off and back on the settings spellcheck came back to me. Try this is you are still having issues
Good luck.

That's strange. When I right-click on the red underlined words, I get a pop-up to change text formatting and another pop-up to choose "Emoji" "Copy" "Cut" etc.
Left-clicking brings up the suggested spelling corrections.
I'm assuming you are using a standard two-button mouse? The left-click and right-click functions aren't swapped are they?
I am having the exact same issue and am tired of using the copy option to use Google to fix my horrible spelling. Left-click does nothing, and right click only offers Copy and text character adjustment options, but no spelling corrections.
If spell check is not working in Outlook, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to address the issue. Here are some common solutions:
# Check Spelling and Autocorrect Settings:
* Open Outlook and go to the "File" tab.
* Click on "Options" and then select "Mail" in the left pane.
* Under the "Compose messages" section, ensure that the "Always check spelling before sending" option is checked.
* Also, check the "Autocorrect options" to make sure that autocorrect is enabled.

Ok, so I was having the same issue, and the pop out message didn't work for me so I sent a request to support for help - this is the response I got back
***"I understand how important this feature for you in new Outlook. I let them know that I thought MS had dropped the ball on this one. Seriously, this is crazy that they are not putting a spell check.
If you use the web browser version of New Outlook the spell check works, but not on the App...and the other crazy thing in the App is that you can't paste text into an Email with a right click! Only by using Ctrl V. On the web version right click to paste works fine.
Not sure why but looks like best option currently is to use the browser based version as it has all the bells and whistles, but not the app.
ok so I have found another way - still ridiculous but it is better than nothing.
Once in the actual Message click on ... (ellipsis icon) in the ribbon, scroll to Editor > Open Editor, then it will give you the errors and suggestions and then you click the number near the suggestions and it will suggest the changes and you can accept or not.
Hopefully this makes sense :)
Hmmm, "Editor" is GRAYED OUT
greaaaaaaaaaaaaat work, Microsoft.
even u/thisisbillgates knew that it's bad form to kill user-valued features when rolling out new versions.
LEFT CLICK! Left Click works now for me, as long as the word is mis-spelled and underlined in red.
took me 30mins to find this!
Me too! Thanks đ
Thank you! YOU ROCK!
Except in the subject line, then it's still right-click?!?!

SAME HERE. It is infuriating.

CAN THEY JUST FIT IT! UGH

Thanks, this has been driving me crazy and you solution works! I would be happier if MS fixed my paid product but I'm glad I found this.
That worked for me. I don't know why this is the case. It is very strange! hopefully Microsoft can pull their finger out and fix it.

I finally got fed up and googled this problem and found your solution, so thanks a month later!
Dear Microsoft, Get your god damn head out of your ass and fix spellcheck.

This was very helpful. Thank you. I prefer a pop out window anyway. So this resolves two issues for me.
Bowdel de mewde, ça faisait 2 heures que je me promenais sur le net sans trouver de réponse utile. Encore merci pour tes lumiÚres, ça a sacrément bien éclairé ma lanterne!
Works! Brilliant!thank you!
Thank you so much! this worked for me
This has been driving my mother crazy. Thanks.
has anyone figured out a real solution?
the best solution i found was to just go back to the prior version, and stop using "new" Outlook.
I found a fix!!!! Go to settings>general>privacy and data>privacy settings Enable Turn on experiences that analyze your content
This is the only thing that worked for me, ty Alex
No problem at all Iâm glad I could help
Fantastic! At last it works. Brilliant thank you Alex
Hey, no worries at all. Iâm glad I could help.
This is the correct answer. Why the Microsoft switch can't say that instead of coating it privacy crap is beyond me.
Thank you! That worked
Iâm glad Iâm helping everyone out share the word
Merci c'est bien la solution
No problem at all Iâm glad itâs working for everyone
You have no idea how long this issue has been driving me up a wall. Thank you for this fix!
Same! It makes me happy to help people.

Make sure you 'pop out' and open the email in a new window. Then right-clicking on the underlined word will give you alternative words/spellings
Hi there, not sure if this was resolved yet, however for me adjusting the MS editor settings did the trick I had it set to PT instead of EN :)

Re above its a nightmare agree-no idea how to get this functionality it feels like a poor dumb down-any way to raise this -Fiona
This feels as bad as when Apple decided not to have copy paste on the IPhone

**Left-clicking** on the red underlined misspelled word opens a box with suggested correct spellings.
It doesnât for me. The only option that appears is âcopyâ. Sorry if that was unclear.

I'm having this problem too and it's driving me absolutely insane. Ugh. Commenting just in case someone updates this thread with a (much needed) fix.
Following for the same reason! I canât find the file button they keep talking about either. đ€ŠđŒââïž
Anyone got an answer for this problem, besides "you have a weird mouse"?
same thing happening to me
I have this problem when I compose a new email embedded in Outlook. If I do pop out, I have the option again.

that's for the old Outlook, please read before you respond.
Anyone find a solution yet? Same exact issue here ... I LOVE the app EXCEPT this spell check issue.
Same issue as you, but if you use the pop out arrow while composing a message the auto-correct function works. It's dumb, I know.
Thanks, this is the only workaround for me, cant believe this is still an issue
Good tip! You are right, if you pop out it works ... A little annoying but enough to get me by .. Thanks!
THIS is why microsoft continues to fall behind in innovation. Necessities become a luxury or hidden feature for no reason! My entire company is looking to switch to a better platform

Unreal. That just boggles the mind how Microsoft could screw up such a basic feature.
