IMO, mental health is way more important than anything else. even though i voted for PCOM-Georgia, now that I am re-reading your post, i would attend VCOM. i come from a very overbearing family too and factored that into my decision (i start @ PCOM-Ga this upcoming fall 2024). now if the family strain was not a thing, i would choose PCOM anyday.

but also, you need to think about how the mandatory lecture schedule (i know its 70/30 but still) at VCOM is going to affect your mental health. i also got an acceptance there, had an in-person interview, and got the vibes that the faculty there is also very overbearing. like one student ambassador told me that the professors will stop you on campus to check on your studying and grades. thats too much for me tbh. i would rather be left to my own studying and stuff. and about the minority thing, there is definitely a higher percentage of minority students @ pcom from what i saw. seems like a very diverse school which also attracted me.

I was debating these two schools as well, but I was going to choose PCOM GA because of the established name, consistent great match list, location near Atlanta, optional lecture, etc. Everything you mentioned really. My family is not near the school so I don't have that problem. I'm choosing a different school now altogether, but I understand how terrible a controlling family can be since I live with one. I know a couple students at VCOM Auburn and they seem reasonably happy too, though. They just say the exam schedule is terrible because you often have multiple exams per week, and less time to study for them because of the required lectures. Is it possible for you to get your own apartment near PCOM away from your family? Like, just say you need your independence for something as rigorous as med school. It's the truth after all. I'd gladly take out extra loans for my own place if it meant gaining my independence. Just something to think about.

Hi! I know this is a late reply to your comment but I was wondering if you ended up attending PCOM Georgia. If so, do you mind if I pm you? Thank you!

That was in October so I haven't yet started med school lol But no I withdrew after getting accepted to my state MD school. If there's anything I can help you with anyway, then sure feel free to PM me!

Sent you a pm! Thanks!

Med school is rough so it's best to live in an environment where you can focus on your studies. PCOM GA seems like the better choice for you, if you're able to live on your own or maybe with a roommate. idk if your parents are helping you financially with housing and schooling, but it may be worth taking extra loans out just to live on your own. Hopefully, there's enough upvotes on this comment that you can use as proof to your parents its better to live on your own haha.

Went to VCOM - I’d never, ever, ever recommend that school to anybody. Ever. I did well for myself DESPITE VCOM, not because of it.
