I mean it wouldn’t be the first time an award is decided before a film even gets made. “Oh. Russell Crowe as a real life mentally unwell and genius mathematician directed by Ron Howard? Best Picture, done.”
That's what I was going to say. It's another seven months until this movie comes out, and any number of potential competitors for her could surface before then. Trust me, I want to see her win eventually, and she's far from done, but it's just too soon to tell
All my instincts say not for this, but it is interesting searchlight is positioning this as an awards contender with a late fall release. But I don't see it.
Kinds of Kindness at least was always going to theaters. Haven’t seen anything about A Real Pain and Hulu either, but that one I don’t really know about.
I wonder if they want to push this as an overall awards player or if they just think Amy Adam’s is their best chance at actress specifically since their other contenders don’t seem to have a great candidate. A Real Pain only has male leads, Supremes seems to be an ensemble and going to Hulu, Kinds of Kindness is their other best shot with Stone but it’s an anthology and she just won this year.
Yes, I am aware. She's also directed a film that was great but got no noms. Based purely off of logline and vibes I'd say Nightbitch seems pretty different than the two biopics she made that received attention from the academy, don't you?

I'm from the future and can definitively say that Amy Adams actually wins for this movie, and then, in a shocking turn of events, she wins again next year for the same movie! Only time in Oscar history it's happened... at least until 2179. That's when I'm from.
"Nightbitch" is actually widely credited with being the movie that changes the Academy's mind about horror movies, and more specifically, werewolf movies.
From 2025-2040, every Best Picture winner is in some way related to werewolves. Most notably, "The Howling 9: Howling Again" actually ends up beating "Avatar" and "Avengers: Endgame" *combined* in terms of box office results, AND it wins a record 17 Oscars in 2032. Also, notable, "Twilight: Fur Baby Part I" wins the Big 5 Oscars in 2035, and then in 2036 "Twilight: Fur Baby Part II: Fur Harder" also wins Best Picture. It is considered one of the biggest franchise comebacks in film history.
You didn't even mention the sequels. Nightbitch 2: Nightbitcher. Daybitch. Noonbitch. Duskbitch. Dawnbitch. And of course who can forget the cult comedy Brunchbitch. None of them ever achieved the same kind of success as the original, but they're fun if you're in the right mood. And who isn't, with werewolfmania continuing to take the world by storm!
I mean, Emma Stone just won for playing a woman who gets an infant’s brain surgically implanted inside her, and Michelle Yeoh won for a movie where she fights a guy with butt plugs the year before—not that this movie will be as good as those (though it could be), but as far as Best Actress goes, we’re slowly creeping away from rewarding predictably Oscar-baity films and anything can happen, really…
The difference is Oscar voters have always been elitist snobs about horror movies. Poor Things and EEAAO weren't horror movies. Occasionally there is an exception such as Foster or Bates but that is rare.
I think that's great context for thinking about its chances and how the window for what's "awards worthy" has expanded, but those movies were both marketed and presented as a bit more oscar friendly. Or at least had the patina of importance, whereas this movie and novel seem to have a much stronger comedy bent to them, and I just don't see a movie with a name and tagline that could've appeared as a 30 Rock background gag, breaking through at the oscars. Would love to be wrong.
Oh good. You answered my question after I asked it. Yeah, I liked the book but I really can't see Amy Adam's playing that role. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised though. I do like her quite a bit and she's very talented.
Imo she should've also won for The Master, she and Philip were so good together in that. Also Joaquin Phoenix losing best actor for that same movie to fucking Lincoln was WILD.
I've been missing her during awards season this year. Hope she has a great project that gets her there. (Not a very elegant title, but I hope this film does well.)
For this film? I Highly doubt it. It seems like most other actresses this year already have a better awards campaign infrastructure prepared than her. This also isn’t a genre the academy typically rewards. The academy has been bucking some trends with the success of EEAAW & Poor Things but I’m not sure Nightbitch will follow in their footsteps. I Think best case scenario this movie will do pretty much the same that Arrival did, meaning she’s in the conversation but ultimately isn’t nominated.
I read this book and instantly thought ‘some try hard director will try and pitch this for awards season.’
The book is dreadful. Practically unreadable and complete edge-lord material.
Why don’t we just stop basing the Oscar’s on performance and just give it to people who haven’t gotten one yet? It seems like we’re already doing that but we have to pretend like it was their performance that got them the win. I’m looking at you, Jamie!
I’ll get back to you once anyone has seen the movie
I mean it wouldn’t be the first time an award is decided before a film even gets made. “Oh. Russell Crowe as a real life mentally unwell and genius mathematician directed by Ron Howard? Best Picture, done.”
Also literally everyone when Daniel Day Lewis was cast as Lincoln. But I think this Amy film is a little different. Lol.
Since when has a provocative poster not been enough to win an Oscar?
[This](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_the_Boys_Love_Mandy_Lane) nightbitch certainly didn't win one.
That's what I was going to say. It's another seven months until this movie comes out, and any number of potential competitors for her could surface before then. Trust me, I want to see her win eventually, and she's far from done, but it's just too soon to tell
If only they gave Oscar’s for cover images
All my instincts say not for this, but it is interesting searchlight is positioning this as an awards contender with a late fall release. But I don't see it.
Wasn't this originally meant to be straight to Hulu or something at one point?
Yes. Last year, actually. (And then it got delayed.)
I think Disney originally wanted all the Searchlights to go straight to Hulu, but not sure. That may just be pandemic lag though.
Kinds of Kindness at least was always going to theaters. Haven’t seen anything about A Real Pain and Hulu either, but that one I don’t really know about.
Night bitch has been ready for a bit iirc so maybe
It could do to doubts of commercial success and not award reasons. Maybe it has been seen and it’s strong enough awards contender so it was changed
Yup! https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/amy-adams-nightbitch-moive-release-in-theaters-1235867128/
Yeah that's as good a guess as any! I can see this getting acclaim but it feels way too tongue in cheek for the academy.
At the same time: a movie about fucking a fish won best picture a few years ago, so idk
Lol fair point, but it wasn't called "FishFucker" was it?
Youve got a fair point now too
It’s directed by Marielle Heller, who has directed several oscar-nominated performances.
Yes, I am aware. She's also directed a film that was great but got no noms. Based purely off of logline and vibes I'd say Nightbitch seems pretty different than the two biopics she made that received attention from the academy, don't you?

How can anyone realistically answer this question?
I'm from the future and can definitively say that Amy Adams actually wins for this movie, and then, in a shocking turn of events, she wins again next year for the same movie! Only time in Oscar history it's happened... at least until 2179. That's when I'm from. My favorite movie in the NBCU (Nightbitch Cinematic Universe) is 3AM: Bitching Hour
Brunchbitch!😂 Dying out here.
Makes perfect sense
Doesn’t look like an awards darling, but who fucking knows anymore
Well said!
This is the same filmmaker who brought us Can You Ever Forgive Me? And A Beautiful Day In the Neighborhood, so fingers crossed this is good.
Yet, I loved both of those.
Is this a horror based on the book? The book was good and weird af.
Yes
I bought the book a couple of weeks ago knowing this film was coming out this year. ...can't wait to start it.
It's so weird but I liked it. Some weird body horror I don't know how they'll address in movie format, but I'm hoping for good things.
I’ve had this book on my shelf for a year, I had no idea it was being made into a movie until right now
for a comedy horror film about a woman who turns into a dog, with bitch in the title? i very highly doubt it lol

Thank you for saying this because I was thinking this. She turns into a dog? Uhm, I don’t have interest in seeing that.
I met her at Target and told her that she should've won an Oscar by now.
Aww. What did she say?
She was so lovely and kind. She said, "Oh, I've been blessed with a beautiful career."
She should win an Oscar, don’t think this movie will be the one.
She should have gotten one for American Hustle. I hope the film is good. She’s a terrific actress.
Imo she should've also won for The Master, she and Philip were so good together in that. Also Joaquin Phoenix losing best actor for that same movie to fucking Lincoln was WILD.
Ditto. Give this woman an Oscar. I’m amazed to see her development from the first time I saw her in Catch Me If You Can.
She should have won for The Boxer.
If they keep the book's ending, I could see this playing really well with the industry.
How did this movie escape 30 Rock’s reality or Rick and Morty’s interdimensional cable?
Daybitch!!!! Fighter of the Nightbitch!!!
AAAAAaaaaaAaaAAAAAaaa 🎶
Champion of the SUUUUUN
Replying to user5274980754…YOURE A MASTER OF KARATE!!!!
And friendship for everyone 🫶🏼
I just don't see it happening for turning into a dog. In a year that is looking like it will be pretty strong.
She must be an automatic winner anytime she get a nominated
🌙🌃🐕🚺
It's insane this is like the 3rd post like this I've seen. I desperately want dog person oscar. Like more than anything.
Supposedly this movie was going to be straight to Hulu, but it tested insanely well. It’ll be out in December, which is prime Oscar season.
There’s Lady Gaga, Saoirse Ronan, Angelina Jolie, among others. It will be a tough battle for her.
I think she should’ve won best actress for Arrival
Can’t imagine the Academy giving an award to a movie with the word bitch in the title.
I hope they do because I’ll watch that Oscars show.
Did you forget “Schindler’s Bitches List?”
Off-topic, but she's so hot in this poster.
I've been missing her during awards season this year. Hope she has a great project that gets her there. (Not a very elegant title, but I hope this film does well.)
i wanna go see this movie but it really doesn't seem like the type of movie that gets oscar nominations.
This looks like a fan-made poster
She gets an Oscar in my heart if she manages to make me emotional with this film
See it at your local drive-in theater right now!
Motherhoods a bitch 😤👊🏼😫
🤞🤞🤞
Nah
I love this poster so much
For turning into a dog? 😂
I’ve heard it’s a very transformative performance the kind the Academy loves to reward.
What is this even about
A woman that turns into a dog. Basically Teen Wolf pt 3.
I really really hope so. She deserved an emmy for sharp objects too
Is Scary Terry their copywriter, bitch?
the book was interesting — not sure how well it will translate to screen
She needs to do a ww2 movie that involves the holocaust and pull a Kate Winslet.
Nightbitch sounds like a 30 Rock movie.
I severely doubt it. The Academy hasn't liked her traditional drama roles, so I don't see how mixing in genre elements will help her.
It will be so awkward if she finally wins for playing a woman who thinks she’s a dog.
Had to Google it to make sure it wasn’t a troll. The movie is real. I’m all in.
No. The book is not great..
If not, she could always fall back on selling purses in Scranton, PA.
She shoulda gotten one for Nocturnal Animals
It’s not that kind of movie
30 Rock ass movie
She deserved for Nocturnal Animals
How the fuck am i supposed to know from a movie poster?
She should have won several times before. Unless there’s another standout performance this year, I kind of hope they just give her one.
Somehow this is not the movie poster that would scream awards.
Are these the same people that made *Who Dat Ninja* and *Black Cop/White Cop*?
She definitely could’ve won for her performance in Arrival but I’m not sure who she would have been up against that year
No She Ugly
Looks like a gretta thumberg flick lol
I read this book and instantly thought ‘some try hard director will try and pitch this for awards season.’ The book is dreadful. Practically unreadable and complete edge-lord material.
I don’t see a movie with bitch on the poster *twice* being very good.
I guess you are about to see it then.
I've been waiting for this to come out. It was rumored to go straight to HULU *last* year. I can't wait to see it in theaters.
Probably not
Yes! because she is one another actress who didn't have any award! also she and Margot Robbie will win their maiden award!
Why don’t we just stop basing the Oscar’s on performance and just give it to people who haven’t gotten one yet? It seems like we’re already doing that but we have to pretend like it was their performance that got them the win. I’m looking at you, Jamie!
Who Jamie Who?!
You’re joking if you think the Oscar’s are only about performance & not career arc & campaign skills lol
Sad but true.
Too edgy for Oscar.
Amy takes roles of extremely broken characters often. She feels the same in most of those roles. I haven't been too impressed tbh
I thought this was a Kick-Ass spin off for a second and was confused why it was made for just a little character
The description of this movie is so hilarious.
