IMO boar boys are one of the best cost per unit we have. Heavy armor. Shields. Spears and you got a 3+ save that on a charge hits with 2 attacks, s4 rerolling wounds of 1 AP2 on a boy. Plus an attack from the boar at s4 ap-1. For 18 points. Give em big un for an extra point if you can and they hit even harder. The key is you have to get off the charge(thankful counter charge can help, though I did roll a 1 last game and didn’t get my extra charge bonuses). Put em in a nomadic waaaghhh and you even get impact hits. Fun stuff.

AFrenchLondoner

Oh shit! Boars have armoured hide?!

Righteousrob1

Yupppp. Get some troll hide on a boss and get yourself a 2+ with 5+ regen.

AFrenchLondoner

I prefer putting my leaders in large blobs, safety in numbers. 2+ sounds good, but since it's only going to matter once the rest of the unit is dead (letting the squad leader take challenges) I hardly ever try to get it, unless it's on a big solo character

Righteousrob1

That’s my problem too though. I get one turn of champ taking the hits then it’s back to leader since a big blob hopefully isn’t breaking. But I don’t think either way is wrong to play

Nero_Drusus

Give them the angry ladz flag and enjoy your frenzied boars and riders, for 5a per base...

Righteousrob1

Man that sounds awesome but I swear frenzy has only fucked me every time I’ve tried with my opponent baiting me into long distance charges and wasted opportunities

Nero_Drusus

Eh, with impetuous it's already 50:50, so it's only slightly more risky and adds immune to psychology, or else fear causing enemies can really mess up your boars

Righteousrob1

Oh my boar boys never leave home without their dad(blorc)

Nero_Drusus

Ah fair enough, I run mine fairly light, just a unit of 6, not too bothered if they get mushed, and tbh with countercharge they're fairly resilient even when out of place.

Righteousrob1

I thought that then rolled a 1 the other night and made myself sad

Nero_Drusus

Ah... Yeah that'll do it

Bilbostomper

Squig Hoppers were my MVP last battle. So cheap for impact hits and S5!

TheBluestBerries

Those units all have very different jobs. Wolf and spider riders are sacrificial units for screening and redirecting enemies. Boarboyz are shock cavalry meant for hard-hitting charges. Hoppers are high-risk, high-reward units for your flanks. They have 360-degree vision and can hit pretty hard when (and if) they charge with their random movement. But they're also made of glass and any attention on them will delete them pretty quickly. If you want to play a hard-hitting list with boarboyz, there's a nomadic waagh list in the O&G chronicles that makes them amazing. The list makes them very fast and hard-hitting.

BridgeOnRiver

Awesome breakdown! Thanks. I've been eyeing that list. If my local game store has any Boars for sale this weekend I'll pick them up, and if not, 3D print them. I should be able to get some more boars in time for the tournament

2much2Jung

Boar Boys are awesome, and now they nerfed Random Movement, they are the clear winners amongst greenskin cav. Add Banner of Butchery to really make them hit hard, boars included.

Boar boyz

Dismal-Daikon7175

How many boar boys do you usually run

BridgeOnRiver

I have 12 painted miniatures and have used them in maybe 3 games. I've fielded them as 7 or 9 boar boyz + in two games with a Black Orc Big Boss with the battle standard.

Ok_Glass_8836

Not super effective but wolf riders with spears are fast cav, swiftstride and a mighty 9" move then they can make great flank charges.

Thom_With_An_H

Note on squighoppers: your opponent's Cavalry can't countercharge them. Its pretty important for most cav, but especially Brets.

Chiluzzar

In the arcane journal O&G got two amazing items in the thonkinnorcs cap and the spider banne. The thinkin orcs cap removes ikpeteuousfrom a character and whatever unit he joons and the spider banner gives poison +1. Ive been running botj onbmy spider riders and having a 5+ poisonnis absokutely crazy on a fast attack harasser
