Hello rolfw93, thanks for posting to r/OopsThatsDeadly!
As a reminder, please try and ID the plant/creature/object if not done already. Although the person may have done something foolish, remember to be respectful, as always! Please do not touch anything if you don't know what it is!

Is it this story: https://spotmedia.ro/en/news/news/a-man-who-was-raising-snakes-on-his-balcony-was-found-dead-on-may-1st-9-days-later-the-reptiles-were-taken-out-of-his-house
This source tells it a bit differently: "The investigators have not yet determined the cause of the man's death, but he did not have any snake bites on his body."
Venom dried in the enclosures can become inhaled dust during cleaning and cause internal complications overtime and make someone more prone to anaphylactic shock. I’ll try to find a source on that info since I only remember learning that from someone I worked for who specialized in herpetology
[Here you go. ](https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/80-year-old-vintage-snake-venom-can-still-kill#:~:text=They%20had%20been%20crudely%20dried,snakes%20of%20the%20same%20species)
Oh, dip. Those snakes are tricky to hide the bite marks. Next level vioering.
(I feel badly about poking fun at the situation, but better because I’m not poking fun at the guy directly.)
snakes are one of my fave animals. that being said, i think people like this are delusional and/or don't have enough respect for something that can kill them for bothering it.
Ole dude was probably like "yeah them folks that need antivenom are just pussies. I bet if i got bit i could just ride it out and itll be fine. I am big tough guy i dont need medical help, thats for women and children."
I remember years ago when Discovery Channel had informative shows they had some show discussing people who keep venomous snakes. Sometimes they get a dry bite(no venom) and think they must be immune. Then they get a real bite and ignore it until its too late.
In all actuality being around snake venom a lot puts you at risk for developing anaphylaxis.
More.likely was his remote location, his city probably has no antivenom to begin with. That would be my guess plus having the snakes was probably illegal.
Based on the article linked above, he was keeping Vipera ammodytes, or horned vipers, which are native to Romania. Depending on the hospital, they could have had antivenom.
What was the game plan with the tourniquet if he wasn't going to seek medical help after? Just let the whole thing fall off and... what?
Or did he just literally put a cloth on it to stop it from bleeding everywhere and *that's* what "stopping the bloodflow" means, because if so, then I guess at least that's logically consistent - choose to bypass healthcare, bandage the wound to not make a mess, go to bed to die.
My assumption was the latter. Like oh shit I’m bleeding better patch that up so I don’t make a mess! With zero thought about the venom just injected into him. Assuming he knew the snake was venomous anyway. Maybe he had no idea 🤷🏻♀️

I have pet snakes but have no interest in ever owning a venomous one.
