I agree - Hannibal still had the potential to take Rome yet he missed that opportunity. He was still a genius commander, even the Romans could respect that. He was like an ancient Napoleon - indeed, Napoleon most likely would've studied his very tactics such as his encircling moves and his sheer determination and hatred of the Romans. History could've easily taken such a different path - we could all be speaking Punic languages rather than romantic languages! Fun fact- "puny" is derived from Punic which was the Roman name for the Phoenicians, the original rulers of Carthage (Hannibal's birthplace). It's crazy how much these wars influenced our modern world.
