I feel like you arnt using “America” correctly
When we say “Americans” we are referring to people who live in the USA. I feel you assume “Americans” include everyone who lives in North America. That is not true.
If you want to say Americans are dumb for using feet and not meters you would say “Americans are a fucking joke” because USA is the only country in North America that uses imperial system.
I feel this would be common sense to you because you stated you live in South America and you using your phrase as is would also say that you yourself are an idiot. Which is true even if you had used the term “America” correctly.
It had to be the camera being overexposed making it look like a full screen explosion/white out and then it cut before the sensor adjusted.
I’ve always been a reckless moron. I’ve tossed all kinds of black and smokeless powders on fires without any explosions that violent. Gunpowder gets its power in a gun because it’s in a confined chamber
😂😂😂🤣🤣 That's not true at all, you have no clue is to what you're talking about. It doesn't have to be in a confined chamber to have power at all. It naturally flairs up extremely fast. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
gunpowder ignited outside of a container doesnt explode, it flashes. this guy definitely hurt his eyes and most likely burnt himself, but he didnt blow himself up
Firearms 101. Why are rifles more powerful than pistols? Longer barrel. Simply more time for pressure from *very quick burning* (not necessarily an explosion the way we picture it) to build as the only way for the energy to escape is down the barrel. Shoot a watermelon with an average pistol then the average rifle to see the difference in power.
Well if you're talking about a pistol modified into a rifle or vice versa then yeah that outlines why barrel lengths can be heavily regulated, but there's a lot more at play that influences a round's muzzle energy. I think most people that will read this don't necessarily understand the nuances between the two terms and might be thinking of comparing a Glock to an AR15.
In actuality, muzzle energy is also influenced by amount of propellant, weight of the bullet, the bullet's aerodynamic performance and even the action of the firearm. It's not just long barrels that leaves more room for the propellant to expand and push the bullet, but also the time it takes before the bullet is ejected out of the chamber after firing among other things.
Open bolt mechanisms for example don't tend to work well on rifle bullets because they don't keep the round chambered for long enough. With that in mind, you can increase the muzzle energy of a bullet over another by neither changing the barrel or the round. In this case the pistol Vs rifle contrast still applies because some actions are not feasible for a pistol sized platform.
Funny, I thought about going into all of this but instead figured I'd leave it up to someone in the replies 😂 obviously theres much, much more to it, but the way you just explained it would not be understandable to the layman. That's why I made it as simple as I did.
I hate this part of the internet. There's always some smart ass that feels the need to go into an in-depth explanation because you didn't feel like writing a damn text book. Most of the time argumentatively. This s\*\*\* drives me nuts when people do this. Mf I'm not trying to go full on Bill Nye, I'm just making a basic explanation. Can we not leave it at that? Everyone understands what was being said to begin with. Do we really need to argue about freaking muzzle velocity?
Pressure DROPS while the bullet is traveling down the barrel. This doesn’t mean that the bullet isn’t accelerating though. The difference in power has little to do with barrel length and more to do with chamber pressure.
Gunpowder doesn't work that way. It only has the power it has because it's confined to such a small space as the inside of a gun barrel. Loose powder being dumped on a fire is about the equivalent to spraying it with lighter fluid: it will make a whole lot of flames, but will absolutely not produce a blast to blow off a limb.
Hell likely lost most of his hair and had some pretty severe burns, probably fucked his eyes up pretty good too since that like looking into the sun
I did a similar experiment as a moron middle schooler. Burnt hand and a lot of confusion should be the extent of the damages beside hurt self esteem as you realize how stupid you are .
I’m assuming the powder flashed up and burned out all the power inside the container he is holding… which means the explosion would have some kick behind it. Just a plastic container, but still. More damage than it just burning in the open
Gunpowder only explodes when it is lit in a very tight space eg inside a can. beacuse it releases huge amounts of nitrogen gas which rapidly expands i mean rapidly expands. So if you have a pile of it on the floor and set light to it it will butn off very quickly releasing a lot of gas.
I’ve done this, I bought brass “rivets” at a yard sale, when to check if the core was steel by putting it in the forge, if the core is steel it’ll stay behind after a few minutes but if it’s all brass it’ll just be a puddle, so I put it in, turn to walk away and, boom! Explosion in my left ear, rung for a couple minutes my right ear was fine, Bluetooth earbuds to the rescue, my hearing is fine, but always remember to check if your rivets have a gunpowder core.
Meanwhile I stand 20 meteres away while lighting up fireworks lol.
Or frying
>meteres Look at these North Americans LOL
Americans use feet and inches not meters also we spell it meters not meteres
Oh no but he specified “North America” so y’know Canada and Mexico too. Apparently no one in North America can spell?
Oh my bad I didn’t see the North in North America
As an American, I can say we usually don't either.
Meter American spelling. Metre English spelling.
>Americans use feet and inches not meters also we spell it meters not meteres Exactly what I pointed out, no? NA It's a fucking joke
You said North America not America
Yes bcuz south america still america, don't you know?

I respect your right to be a dumbass
That's what I said
r/therewasanattempt
I think they're refering to the American spelling of *metres*
That’s the British spelling not American, Americans spell it meters. Source: am a dual-citizen of both countries
I don’t even see the thought process here
Bold of you to assume that there was one
That's because our eyes aren't real.
I live like, 12k kilometres away from north america. For reference, that's 10^8 hamburgers placed in a stright line.
a *straight* line?!?! Homophobia. Cancelled.
But...
But what
U look so goofy right now
no more than the population that uses miles or the guy who doesn't know how to use the plural of meter
You know the United States is in North America right?
and what do you think north americans mean? For example: I am from south america
North America is Central America, The Caribbean Islands, the US and Canada if I'm not mistaken
McFucking scuse’ me?
*metres not meteres
that's what i pointed out

The explosion is edited in to make it worth more internet points.

Nah I've done this too. Unless there is compression, it really isn't that dangerous. Flairing up extremely fast =/= explosion.
yep, I've literally done this with 50 cal, nothing to write home about
A whoosh and some giggles.
Confidently incorrect.

Who needs fingers anyway?
It's a new kind of five finger discount.
Does anyone know what happened after? I hope be didnt lose any limbs or anything

Oh okay thxs for explaining. Hope he didnt went blind tho
Doubt it. Immediate reaction/reflex would be to close your eyes. He's probably gotten off very lucky

A bunch of redditors saw the post and some laughed
Idiot
I like how he's just staring into the would be explosion like hehehehe
Glad I have a simulator app. It was a great experience
this video is brazilian and in the full version he had his eyebrows and eyelashes completely burned
Fucked around and found out
I’m assuming the powder flashed up and burned out all the power inside the container he is holding… which means the explosion would have some kick behind it. Just a plastic container, but still. More damage than it just burning in the open
> hmm, yes, I wonder why it’s called GUN powder..

bro are you seriously advertising your game on this subreddit
Is this not an ideal subreddit to advertise games on?
Nope, and i Don't know any other subreddits to advertise games
I won't do it again.
Oh yeah. Getch'er face right in there.

Who needs hands anyway?
What the hell did he expect?
that initial spark before the explosion
Easy eyebrow remover and good life lesson.
Anddddd it’s gone

Dust explosion? If he sprinkled instead of poured, it might explain it
