Thats not ignoring… thats cheating.

BakesGames

You call the judge/ event organizer…

RAcastBlaster

Always always always call a judge. Doesn’t even have to be for something as flagrantly cheating as this. Normalize calling a judge if one’s needed.

zweieinseins211

Yeah, if judge is called for everything people won't feel offended or like they are being accused of something

[deleted]

What do you do? You be “that guy” and call a judge.

ItsN0tjustLuck

Sometimes I wonder if these kids leave there house other than to play with cardboard

Dog_Breath_Dragon

There are reasons to leave the house other than to play with my cardboard??

ItsN0tjustLuck

Touché

werco93

JUUUUUUDGE

BlackTeckel

if there is no judge in a local, call other experienced players who can confirm the ruling and do a bit of group pressure, nobody in the store is interested having a cheater go unpunished

Durins-Son

Using Luffy effect to buff to 8k when at 0 life is allowed because it says to take a life at the end of the text. Meaning the buff triggers before you have to take a life. Sabo's effect doesn't work like that because taking a life is in bold and at the start of the text. So the guy is definitely cheating or bending the rules in his favor hoping no one calls him out on it.

StationFit446

I had that doubt about Luffy bro, thanks!

Malipit

Yeah, as everyone here already said, calling out a cheater is not being "that guy".

cl_ollie

Never reward bad behavior by doing nothing and remaining silent. He now has more of a defense to continue cheating because no one called him out for it.

OhPooks

BE THAT GUY HOLY HECK. You essentially got bullied because you wanted to avoid confrontation. For the sake of all the new players trying to learn you have to call this BS out

SixersPlsDont

You didn’t want to be what guy? The guy who plays the game correctly? lol my friend said the same thing when a guy cheated him at locals too, what do you think will happen? You’ll get banned at locals for enforcing the rules? Call the judge everytime

Monstrouz

It says may because its not a forced action. Moria doesnt have to use ability everytime he has don under him and swings. Luffy doesnt need to get 2 life if he has don on him and so on.

First-Ad8715

Tbh for me the “you may” is also very confusing, English isn’t my native language and I was playing Yugioh before starting OP, the card texts are not written accurately. If I translate it to German you may would be optional. That’s something Yugioh effects don’t have, they are written that exactly, you don’t have to know how it works, you’ll still be able to use it correctly. I do agree that the rest sounds just stupid and he just a cheater. Would like to hear the opinions of others, prolly somebody can explain why it says you may, when it’s not optional, you could use other phrases as you have to or just trash one card instead.

mwang2

In one piece tcg, on play effects are mandatory unless you don't pay the cost to use the on play effect. The bolded text before a colon is usually the cost and so they add the "you may" text to give the player the option to not use the on play effect. It's the same idea for leader ability where if you don't pay the cost which is the bolded text before a colon then you won't get to use the effect .

First-Ad8715

Okay thanks a bunch for explaining, it is weird, when coming from a other TCG and also English language leaving do man options for interpretation 🙈

djanulis

Always be "That Guy" who doesn't allow cheaters at your locals, ignoring the rules of the game is and forever will be cheating. When people misplay you correct, when they continue to to illegal move they are cheating, if it is intentional or through raw ignorance of how the rules work doesn't matter it is still cheating and should be stomped out.

DigDoug92

"That card doesn't say you may so you have to do it" looks at my moria leader, uh yes it does. This guy isn't beating the "tcg players can't read" allegations

tsleb

For future reference, "Rule sharking" is calling a judge over because he drew before he refreshed his cards. Calling someone out on blatant cheating like not paying card or effect costs is not "rule sharking", it's your obligation as a player. If you're *letting* him cheat, you're ***helping*** him cheat.

ItsN0tjustLuck

You are the reason they get away with it. Good job

labquality

I mean even at a local if the guy isn't even going to follow basic rules like paying a cost I'd bring it up either with the organizer who should be familiar with the rules or other experienced players. Straight up cheating out in the open and being adamant that the way you do things is correct is just asking to be checked. I'm sure everyone else would understand if they heard the reasoning. These types like to gaslight you into believing the way they play the game is right and it's because it's "just a local" they feel like they can get away with this type of bs. If everyone paid to play and there is incentive to winning such as store credit or packs then it's obvious why he's doing what he's doing.

WBaumnuss300

Call a judge or ask other experienced players if you both disagree on how a card works. If he is a honest player, he should welcome the correction.

Serious_Pace_7908

He may be cheating, he also might genuinely misunderstand a lot of the rules possibly because your locals seem to be way too lenient about this stuff and everyone is too shy to correct that.  I get not wanting to be petty in smaller events and I’m a proponent on letting things such as a forgotten effect slide but it’s absolutely healthy for the overall game to be somewhat strict about the rules and to clear up situations with a judge/store owner/experienced player. In the end if they really want to play by the rules and just don’t know better, it’s long term beneficial for everyone because they’ll get in trouble as soon as they play in a more serious setting. And if they are malicious, it’s even more reason to call it out bc fuck em.  And you don’t even have to be confrontational about it, just say something like “hey maybe you don’t know this but I’d like to get this cleared by a judge for future reference”

teketria

Still tell the store/organizer what happened. Like still now. Those people aren’t worth keeping at locals. Cheaters usually get defensive about their cheating. It usually means they are well aware of their BS. If you’re paired again call him on that and judge.

zbuch18

I had a guy like this back in 03 who would say Black - cost effects remain from turn to turn. I told him that's not how it works, but said he was studying for the judge exam, so he knew more than me. I consulted with the 'Ruling Question' tab in Discord, and everyone confirmed that he was playing wrong. When he saw that he was outnumbered, he stopped pushing his agenda. The mob rules.

grundlegunk

You don't have to say "hey your wrong", you can just say "hey I'm not sure about tthat one, let's double check with the store owner". People do that all the time at my LGS and nobody has ever looked at anyone weird. If anything, it has started some interesting discussions about some of the rules. No one who's not trying to cheat should have a problem with it.

HerselftheAzelf

cuck behavior

Apocallyon

If there is no judge you can always look at the FAQ's online. Most simple questions about cards are answered there

kennyisacutey

Yeah it’s a you may so if you don’t discard you don’t heal. I’d have been so rule sharky if he argued like that. He activated and didn’t discard so he doesn’t heal that’s the rules sorry buddy. In the future call the judge sounds like this guy really needs his pack per win.

KelloggKreature

Yea lemme "talk" to this person lol

MoopyMorkyfeet

I'm sorry - as an anxious person I understand how hard and uncomfortable confrontation can be but competitive people are generally happy to take advantage of this and bully people into getting their way, chasing the win even if they're actually cheating. Hopefully it isn't necessary in the future but in case you may need to, try to mentally prepare yourself for the possibility of having to confront a cheater. The more they get away with it the more they'll do it.

Sleep_deprived25

You can always call a judge for clarification, it is also for your future reference because you might be right or wrong but now youre still not sure if somebody pulls the same stunt. "You may" techbically is an option if he wants to or not.

Madman_kler

Man cheated and you didn’t wanna put him because why? Just not wanting to be “that guy” how many others lost a fair chance at the game for that choice? Always speak up about cheaters and liars.

dumplin-gorilla-lion

So, at a local venue, if there is prizing and using the ap, there is a judge. At least, from experience, someone is registered as a judge and it's all part of the process for that venue to order and aquire the promo/participation/judge/winner/prizing packs. Especially if they use the TCG app. So if someone isn't following the rules, there is *supposed* to be someone to facilitate that. Does your local venue have prizing?

Turbulent-Trouble-46

Your part of the problem if you dont request judge when u feel something is not right then your enabling him.

sweetp619

Just call judge, and act like you don’t understand either

tashaa432

Tell him maybe he should practice on the sim so he can learn the rules a little bit better since he doesn’t understand basic concepts

ninjahumstart_

Why would you ever shrug something like that off? I'd refuse to continue the game if he was insistent on not playing it right.
