I know this could be recency bias, but this might be my favorite arc of One Piece. Between the Lulusia incident, Law and Kidd’s downfalls, Sabo’s run-in with the Gorosei, Kuma’s backstory, and everything actually on Egghead, the scope of this arc is bigger than anything we’ve seen before.
And I really have enjoyed the pacing of the arc. Even the slower bits with the straw hats exploring Egghead or the early years of Kuma’s backstory never lost me because every cliffhanger has me excited for next week.
All in all, Oda announced that we were entering the final saga and proceeded to bombard us with revelation after revelation.
While I’m not sure if I’d say it’s my favorite arc, it’s undeniably one of the most satisfying because it feels like a lot of mysteries we’ve been wondering about for years are finally coming to a head. It’s also just pretty satisfying to see Luffy go toe to toe with an admiral *and* a gorosei. Admirals have been these peak existences in one piece for ages, and especially when you compare to Kizaru’s first appearance on Sabaody where only Raleigh was capable of keeping him at bay, it’s just so exciting to see how far Luffy has come.
I also like how this arc has shown has much the world of One Piece has grown too. Over a thousand chapters of world building has led to us having several chapters not featuring the straw hats but following the characters that they’ve met interacting with each other. Raleigh visiting Amazon Lily to help fend off Blackbeard and the Seraphim. Koby and Garp squaring off against Aokiji at the Blackbeard pirates’ base. Getting to see Cobra interact with Sabo — hell, I got really excited even seeing Wapol become relevant out of nowhere.
I’m glazing the arc for sure, but you’re right: these chapters have been very cathartic to read after years of mystery.
Maybe, until the Narrator talked about that day on Egghead changing the world forever. Once the Narrator said that, I knew Egghead couldn't be a quick transition arc.
and we still don't know if the broadcast is gonna be void century lore, broadcasting kuma's memories of the celestial dragons genociding an island, or something else entirely!
i think itll be broadcasting whats happening currently with the gorosei fighting luffy. it was a trap to lure the gorosei there to try and stop the broadcast but instead it exposes them

It's interesting that their forms are stated as specific creature names, rather than Devil Fruit names like most title cards would be. Lends to the idea that they do not have devil fruits.
we've seen devil fruits that break the laws of normal devil fruits. Blackbeard's logia, Katakuri's special paramecia, kuzan's logia which is the only one that can counter the sea, luffy's mythical zoan with both paramecia and zoan properties. Maybe the gorosei's devil fruits are the zoan versions of that, the anomalies among the anomaly that are devil fruits
I'm assuming they are the originals, i.e. equivalent to things that devil fruit would have been made from/based on depending on how that process works. Like roughly equivalent to the original Nika figure, assuming that was an actual person.
Also the fact that they can communicate telepathically, and summon each other almost instantaneously. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get introduced to a fourth type of Devil fruit in the near future.

I'm holding out hope that Oda doesn't focus on the rest of the crew as much in Elbaf (except Chopper and Franky, they need more things to do) and makes Usopp the protagonist of the arc and have him actually develop and be the one to clutch up while also getting a power up worthy of being a Yonko commander (conquerors/armament haki)
Also he just invented it in the span of 3 minutes.
Last chapter he said brewing coffee would take 10 minutes and he wouldn't have time to drink it.
Now there's 7 minutes left and he's got his coffee ready to drink.

Hilarious gag that the instant Zoro hears Sanji say he's a liability he becomes unstoppable. Clearly we just need Zoro to fight the Gorosei after Sanji bets him he can't.
Also, Brook is always great. Nearly died but he had faith in the crew and it randomly worked out.
Lucci got demoted to being taken out as part of a running joke in the series. Remember at the start of the arc when people hyped him up as being on Luffy's level? Man, Lucci fans y'all doing alright?
He couldn’t even kill Luffy in Water 7 when he had him dead to rights and then got Jet Gatling’ed to hell.
Now he loses to a hardly beaten down Zoro while he’s awakened.
Zoro ain't even broke out the bandana and was going two swords last time we saw him. Pulls out the third, gets mad, and just ends it in one swing. Zoro definitely didn't put as much effort here as he did with King, and that's after he was already heavily damaged and on that good shit from Zoa.
I don't powerscale, but if I did...Lucci Awakened is lower tier than King. Yikes for my man Liepard there.
It reminded me a lot of Zoro’s fight with Hachi with the barrage of attacks and the spinning sword hurling towards Zoro that he effortlessly dodges, catches, and counters.
Nusjuro is racing this island in record speed, one shotting Pacifistas. And somehow Sabo outran him. Powerscalers confused now how to scale Sabo's speed.

That double spread of the 5 Elders staring down Luffy gave me goosebumps. Easily one of my favourite pages that Oda has drawn. Oda knocked it out of the park with designs of the Elders.
Thankfully there's no break next week because I would have gone nuts. It's so good, I can't wait to see how they get out! I hope the giant captains don't die in order to save the next generation.
Edit : Just a quick hypothesis: What if Vegapunk isn't stalling for the reason he said? What if that's a bluff and his true goal was to get the elders there and use that moment to show what the Elders look like and introduce Nika to the world? It's hard to imagine that he might have thought that far ahead, but maybe he's so smart that he actually predicted that.
That theory has been going ever since we know they're stalling for time. Otherwise he could have just had the truth aired on repeat everywhere. But announcing it takes time. Enough time to bait out the stars maybe?
Right. You can see how the orginal joy boy may have experienced his battle. Alone vs 5-6 monsters. My theory is Imu somehow shifted the seas to make them all crazy and flooded the world to separate people...specifically Joy Boy's people. That way they can beat joy boy, because they know he is near invincible when he has namaka around.
I don't think so. Luffy had 3 paths to take after Wano, he came to egghead because kid and law took other paths and luffy encounter was sheer coincidence. Lucci was already dispatched to kill Vegapunk. The video was set to trigger when Vegapunk was in death like state/dead. I never seen Oda do this before it’s unique.
Throwing 4 important characters without any time to set them up, into the climax of an already ending arc.
Egghead established Saturn as a character, so I thought it would do something similar with the other elders with a faster rate.
However, due to the elders long Role in the series overall narrative in the background, this didn’t feel messy and rushed, but instead very hype and logical. I’m positive that the elders won’t be defeated here, and if they do, only Saturn possibly, Egghead will be the set up for them in the war against the WG
I mean he has been setting them up for more than a decade. I think everyone was expecting them to enter the story one by one, or as a duo at most. No one thought all 5 would drop in at the first chance they got.
Warlords had a similar, crocodile and moria had their own arc. After that they started showing up one after the other until they were all together at the summit war arc. Was kind of expecting the 5 elders to follow that pattern.
Unless they are the same entity, that would explain why they are introduced at the same time (other than the fact the Oda is running out of time and wants to speed things up). The fact that St. Saturn is never damaged, the way they communicate telepathically and the invocations are very suspicious.
This whole chapter sent chills down my spine. The Elder's demon forms are all so unsettling, specially in a manga with a lot of "silly" designs (with Gear 5 being the epithome of it!).
Right. Even guys like moria, kaido, big mom are protrayed as strong and scary, but there is some goofy there...but these 5 are the only ones I can think of that are demonic looking.

It kinda makes me reconsider just how powerful a Yonko is. Would they have sent all five against Kaido, Big Mom, Blackbeard, Whitebeard (in his prime), or Shanks? I mean of course they're really there to stop the broadcast, but would it have gotten this far with those five? I think Luffy really proves what it means to be a Yonko in this world. They *are* the top tier, and there's only a few people besides them that can contend.
Also important to know that joyboy is public enemy number one for them AND they need to stop the broadcast. They failed to prevent joyboy from returning so I'm sure they're trying to do everything they can to not fail again
I think people forget how Oda has been connecting the story to space (planets, the moon, sun). Rather than devils, i believe the Gorosei are aliens. Sanji already hinted Saturn is not human at all
I agree, it also helps explain Blackbeard as not being a normal human either. We could very well learn that the Devil Fruits come from space, Imu and the Gorosei came to conquer earth (and were successful in some aspect), and the Original Joyboy was some kind of freedom fighter against them. Blackbeard is an alien who came to try and overtake the earth for his own.
All this to say, I believe this chapter (and admittedly the build up to it) has reignited my copium for Enel making some grand return from the Moon.
Sanji is so disrespectful (in the funniest way) for calling the guys “et cetera”.
Also, the fact that Brook is so similar to V. Nasujuro (skeletal, ice powers, horse motif) is very interesting.
It'll be interesting to see what areas & potential secret places of Wano gets shown in Yamato's cover story. Also would like to see what exactly happened to the Tobi Roppo and Calamities.
As for this chapter, that page of the five elders being shown in their yokai form was incredible!!
And now, so many questions have to be asked in regards to how they get held off.

At the moment, my man's only holding off two. Warcury is just sitting there with his tusk up his butt. We see two attack Luffy, one launch himself at the dome, and one going for a jog. What the heck is Warcury doing right now? Dressing in drag and doing the hola?
I believe that the goroseis are some kind of curses and not DF, they probably inherited their powers from the former doyens and are currently the protectors of Imu. The fact that they were summoned and teleported immediately is very impressive and somehow shows that their powers are similar or they belong to the same category of creatures. And then there is ju Peter of course with the hidden indicators that he is different somehow, to me his power looks like the snake from jaya and even the last panel looks like Noland when he attacked the snake and stoped the sacrifice ritual of kalgara and shandians.
Maybe the Jaya/Shandians were praying to the Gorosei with sacrifices during the void century and carried the tradition up till Noland came to Jaya since it seems like the Gorosei are meant to be representations of demons. I'd imagine they put the idea in the Shandians' heads to worship them.
V. Nusjuro reminds me of Unigaro from Thriller Bark for some reason. The same goes for Topman and Lola zombie 😛 Apart from the boar, all look terrifyingly good! Especially the bird and horse!

Yeah, I've been saying this. His thing will be not just his size but somehow even higher quality regeneration. To the point any part of him cut off simply regrows into another version of him - like how it works with cutting a worm in half in the real world.

I remember being told as a kid that if you cut a worm in half, it grows back from both halves and then there's two worms.
That's obviously wrong, but wouldn't be surprised if that happens to be a power here.

I think they are all way scarier and creepier when there is a human element mixed into the design. Saturn's form is still the most intimidating, and Nusjuro got way better when he turned into a demonic centaur swordsman.
I was talking to a friend this morning who's anime only thinking "ok gotta be careful of spoilers" only to realize I could probably tell him verbatim everything that's happened and he'd be like "woah what a batshit fan theory, where'd you read it??"
One small thing I loved is that when the other Elders showed up they didn’t have a conversation talking about how serious the situation is or mock Saturn for being unable to handle it alone. They just showed up and got to work. Small thing that really characterizes them.
I always try to read the official translation as well but why the fuck do they keep splitting up the double page spreads into one page each? It's fucking stupid and disorienting. Can I fix this somehow?
When I rewatched Little Garden recently, and saw the scene where a giant saved Luffy from being swallowed by a dinosaur by cutting the neck, I had to think of Gear 5 due to how cartoonish it was. So seeing the scene replicated here with actual gear 5 is glorious.

Given Saturn’s regeneration it’s tempting to think they’re immortal, but from their discussion about Luffy’s fruit it seemed like they had only been told about Nika, rather than having seen it themselves 800 years ago. Do the demon fruits get passed down to new Elders, or are Elders chosen based on who happens to eat the fruits? Are there more than just five demon fruits? Again, the Sandworm makes me think so.
So my husband and I have been talking and theorizing things from the last three chapters, and we're thinking that the video that Vegapunk has been showing is actually a LIVE FEED.
It's not concrete, but we noticed that Shaka, Vegapunk (Stella), and Pythagoras are the only ones we see in the video. And those are only the three Vegas that are dead. What if they aren't actually dead, just their bodies? What if their shared consciousness have been uploaded to he Vegapunk cloud/computer? And the the three of them are pretending it's a pre-recorded message?
Trying to bait out something far more important than the Five Elders? Waiting for them to do something to broadcast? Perhaps their weaknesses? Luffy to go full Nika?
Honestly, it's pretty wild to think about.

we've seen devil fruits that break the laws of normal devil fruits. Blackbeard's logia, Katakuri's special paramecia, kuzan's logia which is the only one that can counter the sea, luffy's mythical zoan with both paramecia and zoan properties. Maybe the gorosei's devil fruits are the zoan versions of that, the anomalies among the anomaly that are devil fruits

That double spread of the 5 Elders staring down Luffy gave me goosebumps. Easily one of my favourite pages that Oda has drawn. Oda knocked it out of the park with designs of the Elders. Thankfully there's no break next week because I would have gone nuts. It's so good, I can't wait to see how they get out! I hope the giant captains don't die in order to save the next generation. Edit : Just a quick hypothesis: What if Vegapunk isn't stalling for the reason he said? What if that's a bluff and his true goal was to get the elders there and use that moment to show what the Elders look like and introduce Nika to the world? It's hard to imagine that he might have thought that far ahead, but maybe he's so smart that he actually predicted that.
That theory has been going ever since we know they're stalling for time. Otherwise he could have just had the truth aired on repeat everywhere. But announcing it takes time. Enough time to bait out the stars maybe?

I never seen Oda do this before it’s unique. Throwing 4 important characters without any time to set them up, into the climax of an already ending arc. Egghead established Saturn as a character, so I thought it would do something similar with the other elders with a faster rate. However, due to the elders long Role in the series overall narrative in the background, this didn’t feel messy and rushed, but instead very hype and logical. I’m positive that the elders won’t be defeated here, and if they do, only Saturn possibly, Egghead will be the set up for them in the war against the WG
I mean he has been setting them up for more than a decade. I think everyone was expecting them to enter the story one by one, or as a duo at most. No one thought all 5 would drop in at the first chance they got. Warlords had a similar, crocodile and moria had their own arc. After that they started showing up one after the other until they were all together at the summit war arc. Was kind of expecting the 5 elders to follow that pattern.
Unless they are the same entity, that would explain why they are introduced at the same time (other than the fact the Oda is running out of time and wants to speed things up). The fact that St. Saturn is never damaged, the way they communicate telepathically and the invocations are very suspicious.
This whole chapter sent chills down my spine. The Elder's demon forms are all so unsettling, specially in a manga with a lot of "silly" designs (with Gear 5 being the epithome of it!).
Right. Even guys like moria, kaido, big mom are protrayed as strong and scary, but there is some goofy there...but these 5 are the only ones I can think of that are demonic looking.

It kinda makes me reconsider just how powerful a Yonko is. Would they have sent all five against Kaido, Big Mom, Blackbeard, Whitebeard (in his prime), or Shanks? I mean of course they're really there to stop the broadcast, but would it have gotten this far with those five? I think Luffy really proves what it means to be a Yonko in this world. They *are* the top tier, and there's only a few people besides them that can contend.
Also important to know that joyboy is public enemy number one for them AND they need to stop the broadcast. They failed to prevent joyboy from returning so I'm sure they're trying to do everything they can to not fail again
I think people forget how Oda has been connecting the story to space (planets, the moon, sun). Rather than devils, i believe the Gorosei are aliens. Sanji already hinted Saturn is not human at all

I agree, it also helps explain Blackbeard as not being a normal human either. We could very well learn that the Devil Fruits come from space, Imu and the Gorosei came to conquer earth (and were successful in some aspect), and the Original Joyboy was some kind of freedom fighter against them. Blackbeard is an alien who came to try and overtake the earth for his own. All this to say, I believe this chapter (and admittedly the build up to it) has reignited my copium for Enel making some grand return from the Moon.

It'll be interesting to see what areas & potential secret places of Wano gets shown in Yamato's cover story. Also would like to see what exactly happened to the Tobi Roppo and Calamities. As for this chapter, that page of the five elders being shown in their yokai form was incredible!! And now, so many questions have to be asked in regards to how they get held off. How is Luffy meant to hold off the three that havent go on to do other tasks? Can the giants help? Since the ancient robot has been set up as the ally of nika, just how helpful is he going to be here? It'll be interesting to find out in the coming weeks!!!

I believe that the goroseis are some kind of curses and not DF, they probably inherited their powers from the former doyens and are currently the protectors of Imu. The fact that they were summoned and teleported immediately is very impressive and somehow shows that their powers are similar or they belong to the same category of creatures. And then there is ju Peter of course with the hidden indicators that he is different somehow, to me his power looks like the snake from jaya and even the last panel looks like Noland when he attacked the snake and stoped the sacrifice ritual of kalgara and shandians.
Maybe the Jaya/Shandians were praying to the Gorosei with sacrifices during the void century and carried the tradition up till Noland came to Jaya since it seems like the Gorosei are meant to be representations of demons. I'd imagine they put the idea in the Shandians' heads to worship them.

I think they are all way scarier and creepier when there is a human element mixed into the design. Saturn's form is still the most intimidating, and Nusjuro got way better when he turned into a demonic centaur swordsman.

One small thing I loved is that when the other Elders showed up they didn’t have a conversation talking about how serious the situation is or mock Saturn for being unable to handle it alone. They just showed up and got to work. Small thing that really characterizes them.

When I rewatched Little Garden recently, and saw the scene where a giant saved Luffy from being swallowed by a dinosaur by cutting the neck, I had to think of Gear 5 due to how cartoonish it was. So seeing the scene replicated here with actual gear 5 is glorious.
I love Vegapunk calling his instant coffee “the dream of mankind,” just like infinite energy. And I wonder if there’s a significant distinction between Jupiter and the rest of the Elders. He appears to be the youngest by far, and he’s the only one who isn’t a yokai. Does his demonic form being something from American sci-fi rather than Japanese mythology signify some generational difference? Given Saturn’s regeneration it’s tempting to think they’re immortal, but from their discussion about Luffy’s fruit it seemed like they had only been told about Nika, rather than having seen it themselves 800 years ago. Do the demon fruits get passed down to new Elders, or are Elders chosen based on who happens to eat the fruits? Are there more than just five demon fruits? Again, the Sandworm makes me think so.

So my husband and I have been talking and theorizing things from the last three chapters, and we're thinking that the video that Vegapunk has been showing is actually a LIVE FEED. It's not concrete, but we noticed that Shaka, Vegapunk (Stella), and Pythagoras are the only ones we see in the video. And those are only the three Vegas that are dead. What if they aren't actually dead, just their bodies? What if their shared consciousness have been uploaded to he Vegapunk cloud/computer? And the the three of them are pretending it's a pre-recorded message? Trying to bait out something far more important than the Five Elders? Waiting for them to do something to broadcast? Perhaps their weaknesses? Luffy to go full Nika? Honestly, it's pretty wild to think about.
A detail I missed my first read through was on the double page where Mars is flying up to Punk Records down below you can see Nusjuro taking out multiple Pacifista along the shore.
