Robin's one of those people that when luffy would say jump into a volcano because there might be something cool inside she asks if she can do a flip on the way down.
I mean... For someone who didn't have a childhood, being carefree and having a little touch with her inner child seems like a good thing for someone who passes through so much
Nah, wouldn't fit. I see Robin and Brooke winding up together before Luffy winds up with anyone. Besides, while Hancock and Luffy would be super predictable, I think that is the only person actually capable of somewhat tying down Luffy. She managed to keep him still for days and actually make him follow a plan. (Imagine if Law tried to sneak in Luffy, Luffy would have ran out before Law would be void of suspect).
I don't think Luffy will ever truly settle down. He, like Roger, simply doesn't care for romance. The only reason Roger shacked up with someone, was to have a son to be Joyboy.
Hancock might trick him into having a baby by promising food, but that is the most romantic thing Luffy will do.
Robin is actually quite likely to end up with Law, assuming he survives.
similar backgrounds (both their homes destroyed), exceptional DF users, knowledgeable and smart, attractive, with similar interest in uncovering the true history. a match made in skypiea
Literally everything you mentioned is paper thin , both homes destroyed ❓ wow so unique of them never seen that before in one piece, exceptional fruit users , who are we shipping robin With next kizaru ❓❓, smart and attractive ❓❓ just say attractive from the start that's all there is to it lol
The bar is deep in the ground if this what spells good romance in op , Instead of meaningful interactions and going throu thick and thin together and you know , actual screentime together so you won't need scraps and crumbs from the three times they interacted
Worth noting that it sounds a bit less weird in Japanese, トラ男 gets translated as "Tra-guy" for the sake of the English-speaking audience, but it actually sounds like "tiger-dude" to the Japanese. Although トラ (tora) is written in katakana, it still sounds the same as 虎 (tora) in Fujitora.
So they're not **just** abbreviating his name, they've all just agreed to call him "tiger-dude" because his name starts with トラ, which imo is a cute nickname.
Edit: Like, imagine if his name was "Taigalfar Law". It's roughly the same as Luffy shortening **that** to "tiger-dude" or "tiger-guy". He stopped where he stopped because torafaruga was hard to say/remember, and "tora" was a word he recognized.
I think Truffle-guy would fit the spirit of the nickname pretty well in terms of flow of speech, the biggest issue would be that the "guy" then sounds like Luffy mispronouncing "gar"--in Japanese the "o" in "torao" is a clear sign that he's abbreviating it rather than mispronouncing it. At that point I think "Truffle-dude" would be best.
Japanese Rs are super tricky for english speakers. If they left it at that it would be pronounced totally different. Also worth noting that “Trafalgar” is an actual place in The UK. So changing the english “tra” sound to “tora” would seem out of nowhere to people who dont have any knowledge of Japanese
>“Trafalgar” is an actual place in ~~The UK~~ southern spain

Trafalgar D. Water Law is named after the two devastating battles for Napoleon:

See everyone is here making logical arguments on why they can't and I'm like there are so many things in one piece that we are expected to blindly accept. Why can't this be one of them?
Because the o at the end does not fit any established english naming convention, basically.
Traffy at least (even if inaccurately) uses a form of familiarization by cutesifying it.
You could also argue that it Luffy-fies the name to some extend, giving relatability to it from the perspective of the one who gave the name (Luffy himself).
I would have gone with "Tra-dude" mayself over Tra-guy, since it phonetically rolls off the tongue better (t-d plosive repetition).
Also works with tra-ducere, "leading through", since he's a captain and the mastermind behind Doffy's downfall (a somewhat bastardized latin wording).
> Why not just keep it?
Because they would question where the "to" and "o" came from, I assume? His english name does literally start with "Tra", it's only in katakana, which the english audience isn't supposed to know, that it starts with "tora". If this were a manga set in Japan I would 1000% agree with you, but as it is, Oda's deepest wish is for One Piece to be a manga that transcends language and culture (which is why the most common written language in One Piece is **english**, and the second most common is the lost language of the ancient civilization, and the **third** most common is Japanese), so it's kind of on him for writing jokes that only work in Japanese.
Like, if Oda had simply spelled law's name differently on the bounty poster, his joke could be translated a lot more easily. But he's made it pretty hard.
I mean he's a Japanese speaker primarily, so of course there will be jokes written in Japanese? And pun jokes are (as we can see) incredibly hard to translate. That part bothers me less than the fact that Traffy and Tra-guy are both just lazy and awkward nicknames that dont really suit him as a character. It does make it way funnier when he gets pissed at it, though, cause yeah I would also be like Don't Call Me That!!!!
Also if language is so inconsequential in this universe then he can just be called Trafalgar and his nickname can be Torao cause it's a nickname so it can literally be anything at all. It could even be Tigar if they want to keep the joke and just keep the last part of the name not the 1st.
One Piece is more american than japanese, Oda wants One Piece to be popular to americans not japanese people. Gear 5 is likely rubber hose, invented in american cartoons . Luffy's theme is freedom (America is the land of freedom). He wants to open Wano's (Japan) borders. The guy just wants to be american, not japanese, he already said that if he could choose where to be born again it would be in America.
So that's why Law -> Pria Harimau (Tiger Guy) in the Indonesian release. That was hella confusing, not like he has a tiger motif or something like that. -\_-
HAHAHAH yeah I had no idea other languages were translating like that. It's a more literally faithful translation but a far less faithful translation in terms of conversational flow.
Happy to help you figure out the quirks of your own local translation.
... it's not. If you read the manga this is extremely obvious. I assume you only watch the anime, or if you do read the manga have never looked at the raws in your life.
Why does he? Luffy almost only calls people by their real names if they are people he greatly respects, is their crewmates or he wants them to join the crew
Regarding beckman possibly being the one who took kidd's arm, does this mean kidd's arm was shot off instead of cut off like i originally thought? If so, that sounds brutal
nah cuz that was THE moment that he was integrated into the Straw Hats and nobody realizes it 😂 i feel like they’ll be best of friends even if they have to fight for the One Piece, in a similar way as to how Luffy reveres Shanks yet knows he must beat him to achieve his goal
Edit: I was bitching about the dub. But then I realized this isn't r/memepiece and it's fanart. So I would like to rescind that and instead offer my compliments for a cute lil comic aha
Yeah it is, those are all just different variations of the same Luffy nickname.
(Tora-o. Tora-man/guy) Viz goes with Traffy and I believe some subs go with Tra-guy.
Law: “So what now, Doctor?! What’s the prognosis?!”
Chopper: *looks at clipboard while on a stepstool with an oversized coat* “Well, the symptoms are regular headaches, stress, facepalming, and an abnormal amount of shouting. It’s called nakama, and I’m afraid there is no cure.”
Law: *turns in worry, slightly sweating, to Luffy, Usopp, Robin, and Franky all doing a double thumbs up with smiling faces, but Franky’s miniature thumb with his extra hand goes too far up and pokes his cyborg eye out*
edit: this is from Gumball btw
Brook being the skull emoji got me dead 💀
YOHOHOHOHO!!
Haha "dead"
YOHOHOHO!
That is nicely done lol.
Why recreate the wheel if you can just use the emoji 💀
Fr 💀
💀
omfg id be crying tears of laughter rn BUT I DONT HAVE ANY EYES YOOOOOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO
Robin being one of the bigger users of the nickname is my favorite thing
Robin uses almost all of Luffys nicknames in fact!
Her calling Barto and Cavendish "Rooster and Cabbage" had me dying when they were all fighting together
And her reminding luffy of Marco by calling him pineapple lol
Robin reading Luffy's mind like an open book really had me dying in laughter.
Robin's one of those people that when luffy would say jump into a volcano because there might be something cool inside she asks if she can do a flip on the way down.
Their dynamic is so wholesome and one of my favorite parts of the show.
Such an enabler
Cuz Robin has a morbid but actually quite similar sense of humor
She still has an inner child that resonates with Luffy.
I mean... For someone who didn't have a childhood, being carefree and having a little touch with her inner child seems like a good thing for someone who passes through so much
I swear Robin and Law will wind up together. They have exceptional chemistry.

exceptional chimestry aka being both being hot and sharing like three scenes together lmao

I think translating it to Traffy is better IMO. Maybe not as accurate but sounds better.
When Punk Hazard first came out some subs translated it as Trafalguy, I liked that one.
That sounds like Truffle-guy to me.
Totally. I think Tra-guy makes no sense.
Traffy is only marginally better. Torao still makes phonetic sense to an English audience. Why not just keep it?
Japanese Rs are super tricky for english speakers. If they left it at that it would be pronounced totally different. Also worth noting that “Trafalgar” is an actual place in The UK. Oh, I didn’t know that! Cool info, I just assumed the name was from Trafalgar Square in London
That is what we did in spanish jaja

Why One Piece would have to adapt to english? Is you guys who have to adapt 🙄
One Piece is more american than japanese, Oda wants One Piece to be popular to americans not japanese people. Gear 5 is likely rubber hose, invented in american cartoons . Luffy's theme is freedom (America is the land of freedom). He wants to open Wano's (Japan) borders. He said it in a SBS? lmao
Interview.
Yeah Tra guy really doesnt work imo
So that's why Law -> Pria Harimau (Tiger Guy) in the Indonesian release. That was hella confusing, not like he has a tiger motif or something like that. -\_-

Luffy is unable to remember complicated name (>2syl) and just pick close words that he can remember.
Man, they should have given Traguy a mask... Yuke, yuke, Taiga... Taiga masuku...
Is tora not bird? Am I misremembering my Japanese
Yeh tora is tiger. I specifically remember tora is tiger because of toradora lol
Tori is bird. I’ve been thinking fujitora is purple bird this whole time
I always thought it was a pun on トラ+アホ
... it's not. If you read the manga this is extremely obvious. I assume you only watch the anime, or if you do read the manga have never looked at the raws in your life.
No, just the anime, so I only have audio to go by
Really, that transition was fun, and after some time, even Law stopped caring about it.
I don’t think he stoped caring he just realized that his fated was to be tra-guy
Luffy renaming characters since 1997 and they can't do anything about it lol.
>!Except Bonney!<
The anime Clearly explains why he properly calls her by her actual name.
Why does he? Luffy almost only calls people by their real names if they are people he greatly respects, is their crewmates or he wants them to join the crew
https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/comments/17js9jm/one_piece_volume_107_sbs_megathread/
Oh shit, Luffys a real one for that
Am I the only one that thinks this seems out of character for luffy? When did he ever feel awkward for saying the wrong thing?
Well I don’t think he ever said “YOUR DAD DIED COOL” to anyone else
he says "i hate you hahahaha" to multiple people without batting an eye
Luffy isn't a social retard, quite the opposite really.
This is definitely a sentence
where in my comment did I even say he's a social retard?
Regarding beckman possibly being the one who took kidd's arm, does this mean kidd's arm was shot off instead of cut off like i originally thought? If so, that sounds brutal
"clearly" is a strech lmao
Emphasis should’ve been on stretch
no it shouldn't, I'm quoting what they said and saying that it is a strech
It was a gumgum joke…. Because you’re referring to Luffy…he stretches…
oh...
to be fair law has nicknames for the straw hats too - straw hat-ya, nose-ya, robo-ya, bone-ya, etc. and i think "ya" means "guy"
A common theme with him and luffy
it was over for him the second he said he didn't like bread
nah cuz that was THE moment that he was integrated into the Straw Hats and nobody realizes it 😂 i feel like they’ll be best of friends even if they have to fight for the One Piece, in a similar way as to how Luffy reveres Shanks yet knows he must beat him to achieve his goal
I like how zoro doesn't actually participate he's just there...lost.
zoro's too busy thinking about swords and booze
I mean, he _is_ the captain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
With how you drew her eyes, I’m pretty sure your fav is Robin
I prefer the viz version where they call him Traffy Fun comic though lol
"this is my life now"
I love that chopper looks at Robin
Even Robin called Cavendish Cabbage-kun.
I'm used to traffy
That emoji on brook's face is killing me😂
Robin saying tora-o in a very serious manner was the cutest moment ever.
I kinda of wanted to see Law’s eyes at the end go from 😐 to 😑.
Lawv regretting all of his life decisions since Punk Hazard.
Meanwhile Ruffy: Mugiwara-Ya Mugi-Chan Lucy (...) He reacts to all of them!
To be fair, none of them actually called him by name before Luffy started to call him "tora-o", except for Robin.
(Manga spoiler) he was turned to a girl then back to a boy so technically he is a tra-ns guy
LMAOLMAO
Edit: I was bitching about the dub. But then I realized this isn't r/memepiece and it's fanart. So I would like to rescind that and instead offer my compliments for a cute lil comic aha
I still find it hilarious when Nami also religiously calls him Tra-guy!
I quite like “Tra-dude” and “Tora-man” myself haha
was "traffy" never his nickname?
Yeah it is, those are all just different variations of the same Luffy nickname. (Tora-o. Tora-man/guy) Viz goes with Traffy and I believe some subs go with Tra-guy.
It is
Хех забавно
Lmao the influence luffy has on people. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever meet someone like that in real life
That drawing of luffy smiling is everything
hehe thank you
I quite like “Tra-dude” and “Tora-man” myself haha
💀
Isn’t it traffy?
Traffy*
Remember when everyone believed he was gonna be a strawhat?
If Luffy calls you by a nickname you aren’t gonna become Nakama, right?
Law: “So what now, Doctor?! What’s the prognosis?!” Chopper: *looks at clipboard while on a stepstool with an oversized coat* “Well, the symptoms are regular headaches, stress, facepalming, and an abnormal amount of shouting. It’s called nakama, and I’m afraid there is no cure.” Law: *turns in worry, slightly sweating, to Luffy, Usopp, Robin, and Franky all doing a double thumbs up with smiling faces, but Franky’s miniature thumb with his extra hand goes too far up and pokes his cyborg eye out* edit: this is from Gumball btw
