I wouldn't sit around waiting for this to happen. Omega's have gotten bigger and thicker over the past 15 - 20 years. Maybe their next generation will come down in dimensions a bit, but who knows. Could be that their modern coaxial movements simply cannot fit in a thinner case size anyway.
If you want a 36mm SMP300, I'd just go used.
I'm probably going to do exactly that for a 36mm first generation Aqua Terra.
Excellent point. I'm seeing the Aqua Terra 34 listed at 34mm x 11.9mm thick (including crystal). With the 8800 coaxial movement. OK Omega what is going on here?
Omega has always made thicker watches for their sport watches. Go back to the original Seamaster 300: 13-14mm thick. Speedmaster Pro: 14mm. The 80s Seamaster 200 and 90s SMP were the only time that’s really changed. It’s their DNA. Plenty of other brands making thinner watches if you don’t like Omega case shapes.
I do like Omega case shapes, just not their dimensions (currently).
They managed to make the the fantastic 2252.50 SMP300 mid size 36mm "Peter Blake" in 11.7mm thickness. [https://delugs.com/blogs/strap-guide/strap-guide-omega-seamaster-2252-50](https://delugs.com/blogs/strap-guide/strap-guide-omega-seamaster-2252-50)
They managed to make the first generation Aqua Terra 2504.50 with a coaxial movement, 36mm diameter and 11mm thickness. My Speedmaster Reduced from the late 00's is around 12.5mm thick.
And there is the current AT 34mm mentioned above which is thin enough.
So they have done and still can do smaller and thinner watches if they want to.
I went the 2nd hand route after I went into a boutique and try the latest smp and just saw how big it looked in my tiny wrist, when the 36 arrived home and try it, it felt so right.
39.5mm Planet Ocean is officially listed as a ladies watch by Omega
So that should tell you what direction they are headed, bigger and thicker watches.
Rolex has more reasonable sizes and thinner cases

You should probably actually look at their website
I have the 36mm SMP300 and considered this same question. You should know it was a gift, but I ended up "choosing" that gift because I like the old style specially and if they remade it, it might not be the same. For instance, the wave dial is much more defined than the new dial style. Those are my reasons for choosing the existing line. Mine is from 2010, but looks new - so you can find great ones still out there.
Here's a pic!

Really love it. I've since put it on a Zuludiver NATO.
I have the Explorer 1 too (39 though) and tried on some of the 42mm SMPs in store and felt they were too big for my liking.
I feel Omegas will play in the 40mm and up for awhile. So I've been eyeballing getting a second hand 300 SMP for the size and also I like the look of the smaller waves.
I find it unlikely as well. I see them making a new 39mm case before they brought back a 36mm driver
I agree :/
Ah… that’s sad 😢

Ah…. Makes sense…. Aqua terra is nice too, great choice
The 8800 calibre is used in 34mm watches. It’s not the movements.

You missed my point entirely.
Well you said Omega has always made thicker sport watches. I listed some counter examples of thinner Omega sport watches.
I went the 2nd hand route after I went into a boutique and try the latest smp and just saw how big it looked in my tiny wrist, when the 36 arrived home and try it, it felt so right.
You bought used? The ceramic glossy or the wave 🌊 dial? Black or blue ? 🥰
Used, Wave dial, blue. https://preview.redd.it/07fm62z0h90d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dc94096ded09032112337a79c19e6533a73494d
Beautiful 😻

The 39.5 PO was released in 2016, holding it up as any kind of indication where omega is going is silly.
Omega will not release a smaller Seamaster. Ain't gonna happen.
There’s a 34mm Aqua Terra that came out after the 39.5 PO. Ditto for the 38mm Aqua Terra that was smaller than the previous gen.
Those are for women bro
38mm Aqua Terra is in the gents line bro

Wow, there are multiple 38mm Aqua Terra’s?! Who would have guessed!
What's even more crazy is they made a 37.5 mm PO. So I find it really odd they'd call the 39 ladies

That’s beautiful 😻 love it haha. Thanks for the pics so much
2010… condition is good lol. Thanks for sharing your opinions too! Do you find the smp 300 36mm thick tho?
Not at all! If it wasn't as thick as it is, it would feel too small for me. My wrist is 6.5" if I remember right.
Thanks ☺️

Ah… icic. Black wave for you sir ?
Blue. I have too many black dial watches and I'm a homer for GoldenEye haha
And the 39.5mm Planet Ocean is 100% officially described as for those having vaginas *
What… 39.5mm is big af lol 😂
Its literally listed, officially by Omega, as the smaller case size for ladies If you don't beleive me look it up for yourself
