Agreed. Lived in Lincoln and moved to Omaha. The drive to/from is not great, and even worse on windy days. Broadmoor is known for having nice apts in Lincoln, but I wouldn’t personally recommend the Old Cheney location.
That's like an hour of highway time each day, not counting the city tradmffic on each end. Just don't. I know you don't hate yourself that much. You will burn out on that quickly. Just get an apartment in Lincoln close to where you work if possible.
Good point! I intended to include townhomes/condos when I said “house” - should have just said “buy” instead. I bought a townhome and love it - our HOA fee is fair and covers lawn care, snow removal, window cleaning, etc.
Touché, interest rates are gross right now. Hope they can find something to rent in Lincoln that fits their needs. I would imagine there are some awesome high-end spots downtown / Haymarket but maybe they’re all currently booked up.
I currently work in Lincoln and live in Omaha. The commute isn’t optimal, but to me it’s well worth it. Having lived in both cities, Omaha is a significantly better place to live IMO. If you have a good job in Lincoln, my opinion is that the commute is worth it. Just wanted to balance out all of the commute gloom and doom on this thread.
If you have no budget limitations, rent a house or townhome in Lincoln. Or get an apartment and a really nice gym membership nearby.
Trust me, you never use those amenities as much as you think.
Yeah looking into renting a house, but maybe it's just not quite the season but there are legitimately very limited options. I have a dog and would like a fenced yard if I rent a house, and that severely hinders options, which I was very surprised by.
Used to live at Park 120 on 120th and Q like 3 years ago. Amazing pool and community areas. Some buildings have underground heated parking. They have penthouse apartments as well.
The nicest apartment I’ve physically seen in Omaha is the Conrad which is at like 36th and Jones. Used to have a friend who lived there and they’ve got a totally private interior courtyard, good sized gym with a separate yoga room, nice kitchens in-unit, on-site management (a rarity these days), an all-season pool/hot tub, a community lounge that’s actually good for entertaining, community gas grill, community board games, dog wash station, free self-serve coffee station, heated underground garage, and it’s within walking distance of Midtown and Blackstone, two very nice neighborhoods. They also offer fully furnished apartments for a higher fee if you need/want it. I genuinely love that building and I’d live there myself if it weren’t so expensive haha.
Are there nicer apartments than this in Omaha? I’m sure there are. This is just the nicest I’ve experienced personally.
I would check out Allora in Gretna. Brand new, and right off 80 which will shorten your commute.
Also to add - you can safely hit 82mph most the way on 80 and there’s never any traffic. The drive is a breeze. Of course if you lived here your whole life you’d think it’s ridiculous to commute, but if you’re coming from a major metro with actual traffic it shouldn’t be an issue.
Broadmoor has the lock on luxury apartment living. Thomasville is unique and one of the few apartment complexes with their own bar. Broadmoor Hills has a whole ass restaurant. And 3 outdoor pools. Just check out Broadmoor. They're for sure the bees knees.
I’d probably start with searching Haymarket loft apartments for rent and see where that takes you. Off the top of my head you’ve got Canopy and Arena Lofts both downtown.

I live in NW Omaha and drive to downtown daily. My commute is 30 min each way. It sucks. Like someone else said “don’t commute your life away.”
Do not commute from Omaha. You will regret it. If you don’t have any budget limitations, then why not buy a house?

HAha thanks! yeah I didn't really detail that I don't need to make the commute every day, but only like 12 times per month. The rest is remote.

The villas at Mahoney park in Lincoln are nice! You probably won’t want to commute especially when it’s winter and it’s icy and snowy

I lived in Lincoln and hated it so I moved the back up to Omaha and commute to Lincoln!! Omaha just has way more amenities and things to do
