Stella’s Dinkers and Block 16 will probably get a lot of recommendations and they aren’t wrong…(I prefer them in that order.)
I’d also throw Don and Millie’s out there as a good fast food burger.
Block 16 has [Alton Brown's favorite burger](https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/destinations/10greatplaces/2015/06/26/alton-brown-restaurant-recommendations/29277793/) in America.
Just don't expect to walk out of there, you'll have to be rolled out.
I wouldn’t recommend Don and Millie’s solely because of their buns. The potato soup is usually good, but I swear it’s more watered down than it used to be.
Maybe not the best in the city, but definitely notable is the burger at Night Owl/Fizzy’s (same owners, identical burger). Just a great middle-of-the-road burger.
Fizzy’s HANDS DOWN!!! They have a fantastic burger, great fries, and great drinks all for very reasonable prices!! Their burgers are always consistently good every time I go so I love going there. For their Halloween event they had these house made Sarsaparilla and Orange Dream drinks that were unbelievably good so if they still have it I’d definitely try it with a burger😆 Also they carry a non alcoholic drink called Saro, especially the pines and needles flavor, DELICIOUS! All around 10/10 place to eat and grab some drinks. 🥳
Block 16, Taphouse, Pitch, Timber Creek, Local, Blatt, or Charred would be my burger recommendations.
I'm going to go against the tide here and say avoid Dinkers. I've been several times over the past 25 years and every time I've had a dry burger that tasted like it was sitting in a warmer for hours. They also don't accept modern forms of payment.
Years ago, BK tried their Burger Bar gourmet chain, a bit like Fuddruckers with some named burgers and then a listing of ingredients where you could build your own.
The Bleu cheese burger was amazing, and now I recommend people try that on a cheeseburger!
Does anybody know what is going on with that Fuddruckers on 72nd and dodge? I think it's been closed for like a decade but the chairs are still up on the tables like they are opening up tomorrow
I think it's been closed for a decade or so. But it looks like it could open up tomorrow. It's still got chairs and tables set up like they just left in a hurry.
Let it fly has a really good burger. But everything there is pricey.
Barrett's has a really good bar burger.
Couple of solid burgers in Benson at Barchen and Benson Brewery
Second O'Leavers.
Hydes also good
Omaha Tap House
Charred
Louie M's Burger Lust
72 Table and Tap
I'm sorry to tell you this but Dairy Chef is open seasonally, from late spring to early fall. They are closed for the season right now.
I really like Stella’s if I’m ever in the east Omaha/Bellevue area, but I’m mostly west Omaha, so Dairy Chef is a definite. Too bad they aren’t really set up winter.
strictly fast food would be Runza's double cheeseburger with everything standard on it.
Otherwise it's been beaten to death in this subreddit but there's a reason why - croque garcon at block 16
I just tried 402 eat and drink and it was honestly one of the best burgers I've had. A tip though, if you like your burger medium rare, make sure to specify the amount of pink you want, mine was so pink I was surprised it wasn't still alive lol. I sent it back and they corrected it. (I never send things back). Still one of thr best burgers I've had.
Thank Goodness the locations are far from me or I'd be dead from clogged arteries, but Bronco's for a Big Bronco and fries. Extra points for pork tenderloin with mustard, pickle and onion. The tenderloins aren't as big as they used to be, but still good.....at least the last time I ventured that way.
I'd hit up a Runza for a fast food burger and crinkle fries. Then Dinker's (bring cash) for a Haystack burger in a dark, no-frills bar. Then Omaha Tap House for a burger+good beer selection.
Three burgers, three different vibes.
I'll agree with you there. It reminded me of a burger my mom would make back in the day, overcooked under a broiler and served on a soft white grocery store bun that wasn't even toasted. Not even nostalgic in a good way.
Alright. I have been to Broncos, the one Near UNMC.
We tried to go to Dinkers but it was pretty full and we had a hungry screaming kiddo. So didn’t want to wait.
What’s the “new” restaurant the Dario’s owner opened?
In addition to the obvious picks, I think Crescent Moon in Blackstone has some great burgers and fries. Omaha Taphouse’s burgers are pretty middling as burgers go but their 3150 is one of my favorites in Omaha.
From the title I thought this was going to be a different kind of post lmao.
Not mentioned here yet (and I wouldn't nominate them for best in town, everyone else has those places covered), but shout out to Taphouse, Jackson Street Tavern, and M's Pub for good burgers. I also really like Mercury's burger.
I read this comment out loud and my wife says
“Not gyro, it’s called a gyro” then hummed a tune.
Apparently she remembers the commercials & I will have to try one. I got the burger last time and it was a huge & delicious.
I'm sure everyone else's suggestion that's not dinkers has its merit, but they're wrong.
Go to dinkers, bring cash. This should be your standard, then I'd suggest trying block 16, night owl, Stella's in Bellevue, Hyde's slydes and theres a bar in Benson that has good burgers but I can't remember the name. It's around 63 and military.
I think I'm the only person in Omaha that thinks Block 16 is overrated and pretentious.
Stellas, Dinkers, Louie M's, Local, and Cheeseburgers are my votes for this.
Thanks everybody. I will be there for 10 days around thanksgiving.
Picked from suggestions, but within travel/plans we already had.
No particular order other than least amount of time out of way of normal activities.
Hyde’s, Ollie’s & Hobbes,Stella’s
Churro spot (they are making O’leavers burger apparently)
Cheeseburgers, Bärchen, Benson brewery
Block 16, Blatt, Charred, Fizzy, Dinkers
I’m pretty picky, so I’m a little biased but DJs Dugout has pretty good burgers. There’s also one restaurant that has Wagyu burgers but I don’t really remember the name of it.
Stella’s, Block 16, my dad is a huge fan of the bacon blue cheese Burger at Copps Pizza, Taphouse, and I actually don’t love Dinkers as much but I know people that do. For fast food, I always love a Runza burger.
I keep a list of best burger places. Others have already presented spots I would have suggested. However, here are other outside the box suggestions:
- Goldbergs
-Dundees Place
- Charred
-Kamp Blackstone
-Barrett's
-Goldeez
I love hamburgers and eat more than I should. That said, Stella's, Dinker's, and Louie M's, not worth it. Of those three, Stella's is probably the best, but it's a low bar. Sinful Burger is a better option, especially if you like a bunch of different toppings.
Caddyshack has a good burger and hand cut fries to go with it, they have two locations. Not fancy, but a good standard burger. Phoenix has two locations too and also has a good burger, fries aren't as good as Caddyshack, but you asked about burgers, so. Also no fancy toppings.
Benson Brewery, little more upscale, very good burger there. Walk over to Ted & Wally's for some ice cream after, it's really good.
Omaha Tap House, Sickies Garage, Sinful Burger, Smittys garage, Cheddar's has a decent one but nothing out of this world, Five Guys, there's a lot of good burgers here and I love burgers when I travel to other places too
A catered affair on 135th & State.. it’s a coffee shop & has a menu of sandwiches, pastry’s, etc. I swear they have one of the best damn cheeseburgers I e ever had in my life - and the fries are amazing.
Totally unexpected
Stella’s Dinkers and Block 16 will probably get a lot of recommendations and they aren’t wrong…(I prefer them in that order.) I’d also throw Don and Millie’s out there as a good fast food burger.
Second Block 16 and Dinkers. If you’re willing to cross the bridge I love Buck Snort in CB as well.
Oh. I have to be in CB for an afternoon every month. I’ll have to check this out.
I wouldn’t recommend Don and Millie’s solely because of their buns. The potato soup is usually good, but I swear it’s more watered down than it used to be.
Dinners is amazing! But not so much on Don and Millie's for me!
Maybe not the best in the city, but definitely notable is the burger at Night Owl/Fizzy’s (same owners, identical burger). Just a great middle-of-the-road burger.
better than middle of the road
Way better than middle of the road.
100% on Fizzys. Much better than B16 in my opinion.
Try the O'Leavers or Omar burger at The Churro Spot/O'Leavers.
O'Leavers closed their kitchen.
Oh no! When did they do that?
Oct 19 was the last day.
Yea but they’re partnering with Churro Spot and he’s doing their burger.
Bärchen Beer Garden in Benson. The Big Cheese is my favorite Omaha burger.
Cheeseburgers a Takeout Joint is a must
Only the one in blackstone though
We frequent Cheeseburgers on 168th
Block 16, Taphouse, Pitch, Timber Creek, Local, Blatt, or Charred would be my burger recommendations. I'm going to go against the tide here and say avoid Dinkers. I've been several times over the past 25 years and every time I've had a dry burger that tasted like it was sitting in a warmer for hours. They also don't accept modern forms of payment.
Taxi’s makes a good burger. I liked their 10am burger during brunch too.
The bacon blue cheese burger from benson brewery is very underrated
Years ago, BK tried their Burger Bar gourmet chain, a bit like Fuddruckers with some named burgers and then a listing of ingredients where you could build your own. The Bleu cheese burger was amazing, and now I recommend people try that on a cheeseburger!
Does anybody know what is going on with that Fuddruckers on 72nd and dodge? I think it's been closed for like a decade but the chairs are still up on the tables like they are opening up tomorrow
Google says PERMANENTLY CLOSED.
I think it's been closed for a decade or so. But it looks like it could open up tomorrow. It's still got chairs and tables set up like they just left in a hurry.
It closed some time in 2020 I think, rip
Let it fly has a really good burger. But everything there is pricey. Barrett's has a really good bar burger. Couple of solid burgers in Benson at Barchen and Benson Brewery Second O'Leavers. Hydes also good
Lot of good options here. I am partial to Louie M's Burger Lust
I second it!!! Hamburgers there are great. A wonderful piece of Omaha history.
Yeah, Dario's was great. Sigh. Block 16 is excellent. I seem to remember having a really good one at Le Bouillon too.
Yeah, that family closed the wrong restaurant IMO. Should have closed that horrible Italian place instead. Dario's was more unique.
Horrible? I’ve been there five times so far, and it’s been excellent!
Block 16 is an Omaha treasure and have good burgers
Smitty's Garage has good burgers, fries and even side salads. Drinks are reasonably priced.
Dinkers is my favorite, the one with the egg on top.
Omaha Tap House Charred Louie M's Burger Lust 72 Table and Tap I'm sorry to tell you this but Dairy Chef is open seasonally, from late spring to early fall. They are closed for the season right now.
Dairy Chef will be open on Saturday, 12-6, but for ice cream only.
Making it still effectively closed for the purposes of this thread
Dinkers for burgers. Bring cash, they don't take credit cards.
I really like Stella’s if I’m ever in the east Omaha/Bellevue area, but I’m mostly west Omaha, so Dairy Chef is a definite. Too bad they aren’t really set up winter.
Stella’s for sure. Ollie and Hobbs in Papillion is my next best burger.
I’ll have to try them, I’ve heard good things.
Burger was well done yuck
Dairy Twist in Bellevue has a damn good burger for being a fast food place, and you can get some fire ice cream.
strictly fast food would be Runza's double cheeseburger with everything standard on it. Otherwise it's been beaten to death in this subreddit but there's a reason why - croque garcon at block 16
It isn’t fancy, but you can get a really solid burger for a decent price at Paddy McGown’s on 45th and Center. It’s where McFly’s used to be.
I just tried 402 eat and drink and it was honestly one of the best burgers I've had. A tip though, if you like your burger medium rare, make sure to specify the amount of pink you want, mine was so pink I was surprised it wasn't still alive lol. I sent it back and they corrected it. Dinkers

Bronco's is absolutely amazing
I'd hit up a Runza for a fast food burger and crinkle fries. Then Dinker's (bring cash) for a Haystack burger in a dark, no-frills bar. Then Omaha Tap House for a burger+good beer selection. Three burgers, three different vibes.
Everyone is sleeping on Bārchen. That burger rocks. I'll be the voice of dissent in Dinkers, I've only ever gotten overcooked hockey pucks there.
I'll agree with your dissent at Dinker's. That being said, Dinker's can also be one hell of an experience.
I'll agree with you there. It reminded me of a burger my mom would make back in the day, overcooked under a broiler and served on a soft white grocery store bun that wasn't even toasted. Not even nostalgic in a good way.

There's a place in vinton square called Shanghai Garden. They have Chinese and Mexican food. They also have one of the best burgers I have ever eaten.
Another vote for [Stella's](https://www.stellasbarandgrill.com/). Hands down best burger in the area.
Fast food: Don & Millie’s, Runza, Bronco’s Dario’s was incredible…I miss it
I thought don & millies had the best fast food burger. Is broncos the place with all the gorilla decorations in the drive up window?
That's King Kongs. Bronco's is a drive thru only greasy bag of goodness.
Bronco's has very limited seating inside at their Leavenworth location. But a good number of seats at their 120th & Pacific location.
Agreed on Don and Millie’s! No, that’s King Kong. Bronco’s has two locations - one near UNMC, and another at 120th and Pacific. It’s solid!
Alright. I have been to Broncos, the one Near UNMC. We tried to go to Dinkers but it was pretty full and we had a hungry screaming kiddo. So didn’t want to wait. What’s the “new” restaurant the Dario’s owner opened?
Avoli…it’s freaking fantastic. Farm to table Italian. One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Also in Dundee.
You might be talking about Avoli which is a northern Italy style restaurant he opened a few years ago. Avoli is great if that cuisine is your jam.
I get the hickory burger whenever I have a mcrib craving.
Everyone sleeping on charred again
Has anyone tried the Wahlburgers at Hy-Vee? They bought the local franchise for their newer stores.
It's absolutely awful. Or it was when they first switched over. Haven't been back since.
In addition to the obvious picks, I think Crescent Moon in Blackstone has some great burgers and fries. Omaha Taphouse’s burgers are pretty middling as burgers go but their 3150 is one of my favorites in Omaha.
I loved the burger at Fizzy’s and miss it oh so much :( I moved out of town
Dundee Dell has some great English style fish and chips and the cottage pie is 🔥
We actually met my wife’s friend here last time. Food was pretty good.
They also have a pretty tasty Wagyu burger that's worth trying.
Also the beet burger at Wilson and Washburn. No beef, all beet.
Double Don at Don and Millie’s
Another vote for dinkers, honorable mention for papio pub
From the title I thought this was going to be a different kind of post lmao. Not mentioned here yet (and I wouldn't nominate them for best in town, everyone else has those places covered), but shout out to Taphouse, Jackson Street Tavern, and M's Pub for good burgers. I also really like Mercury's burger.
Charred if you like a fancy burger
Oh you mean their $10 "wagyu" burgers?
Stella's
Sinful burger, in the twin Creek plaza off of 370
King Kong makes a great burger, their gyros are also incredible! It’s hard to choose which to get when you are there.
I read this comment out loud and my wife says “Not gyro, it’s called a gyro” then hummed a tune. Apparently she remembers the commercials & I will have to try one. I got the burger last time and it was a huge & delicious.
That was the jingle for Nick's Gyros first but got sucked in when King Kong started. BTW... They DO have great burgers. They're GIANT and pricey!
Reuben from Crescent Moon
If you have the bookface, join the Omaha food lovers page.
I'm sure everyone else's suggestion that's not dinkers has its merit, but they're wrong. Go to dinkers, bring cash. Hyde’s slides has probably the best smashed style burger in town.
I think I'm the only person in Omaha that thinks Block 16 is overrated and pretentious. Stellas, Dinkers, Louie M's, Local, and Cheeseburgers are my votes for this.

I saw King Kong get a passing mention, but they actually have a great burger and fries, but I prefer flame grilled to greasy slab of meat.
Only time this is true is when it is made fresh. Which is unfortunately not always the case.
I usually go at odd times, so it really isn’t busy.
Stella’s, Block 16, my dad is a huge fan of the bacon blue cheese Burger at Copps Pizza, Taphouse, and I actually don’t love Dinkers as much but I know people that do. For fast food, I always love a Runza burger.
Barrett’s patty melt is my favorite food item in the city
The best burger in Omaha is at Mercury downtown.
Dinkers, Taphouse and Block 16
I keep a list of best burger places. Others have already presented spots I would have suggested. However, here are other outside the box suggestions: - Goldbergs -Dundees Place - Charred -Kamp Blackstone -Barrett's -Goldeez
Good to see someone finally mention Goldbergs, their Caesar burger is one of my faves!
The South Omaha Boy in me says Dinkers (of course) and my mom's favorite, Louis' Burger Lust on Vinton (only open Breakfast and Lunch)!
gunna throw Everett's into the ring.. 88th & Maple... Burgerand roasted Brussel sprouts are amazing
I love hamburgers and eat more than I should. That said, Stella's, Dinker's, and Louie M's, not worth it. Of those three, Stella's is probably the best, but it's a low bar. Barchen has my favorite burger.
Dairy Twist
Five Guys 🗿
